Mrs. Imogene Hoots
Imogene Hoots, 75 of Edinburg died Sunday evening August 20, 2000 at her home. She was born June 27, 1925 near Winchester the daughter of the late Claude W. and Myrtle May Lawson Neff.
She married James A. Hoots on June 23, 1960 in Winchester. He preceded her in death May 31, 1999.
Mrs. Hoots attended country school in Scott County. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a member of the Edinburg Christian Church.
Surviving are her children Larry (wife Donna) Neff of Beardstown, Steve (wife Barb) Hoots of Winchester, Cathy (husband Rick) Stimac of Edinburg. 4 stepchildren Tom Hoots of Concord, James Hoots of Othello, Washington, Rachel Casey of White Hall and Shirley Alewelt of Bath. 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. 2 brothers Floyd Neff, Arthur Neff and a sister Mary Simmons all of Winchester. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding Mrs. Hoots in death were her parents, her husband, an infant daughter Nancy Sue, 2 brothers Merle Neff and Clarence “Perk” Neff, a granddaughter and a step grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday (August 24, 2000) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Wednesday (August 23, 2000) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mrs. Jeanne Hoskin (Strubinger)
Jeanne Hoskin, age 85, of Pittsfield, Ill. died Thursday afternoon (August 31, 2000) at the Pittsfield Manor Nursing Home in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born November 3, 1914 in Derry Township, Pike County, Illinois daughter of the late Charlie and Marie Phebus Strubinger.
She married Gail Hoskin in Denver, Colorado and he preceded her in death in 1976.
Surviving are several cousins including, Ada Myers of Pittsfield, Ill., Darius Phebus of Champaign, Ill., Bill Strubinger of St. Louis, Mo., Taylor Strubinger of Connecticut, Betty Jane Rex of Lehighton, Penn., Russell Hornbeck of Tishamingo, Oklahoma, R.W. Hornbeck of Silver City, New Mexico, Betty Emerson of Texas, Gene Hornbeck of Arkansas, and Margaret Moore and Mary Killey both of Roseville, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Madelyn Strubinger of Pittsfield, Ill.; and close friends Larry and Candy Collard and A.D. and Judy Bauer all of Pittsfield, Ill..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Dallas Strubinger.
Mrs. Hoskin was a graduate of Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Ill. and attended Western Illinois Teacher’s College in Macomb, Ill., teaching in Pike County, Ill for several years. She later attended beauty school in Denver, Colorado and, upon returning to Pike County, Ill., with her husband owned and operated Hoskin’s Barber and Beauty Shop in Pittsfield, Ill.. She was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday (September 4, 2000) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Robert Morwell officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery in Pittsfield, Ill.. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Taylor-Martin Cemetery or to the Pittsfield United Methodist Church.
Mr. Charles Keith Howard
Charles Keith Howard, age 79, of Springfield, a former White Hall
area resident, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, 2000 at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Hillview, the son of Charles and Lula
Dillingham Howard.
He married Marie Pinkerton on Dec. 4, 1942 in St. Louis and she
survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Patricia Storm of Bunker,
Missouri; one granddaughter, Meredith Duffy of Springfield; two great
grandchildren and one brother, Norman (wife, Betty) Howard of White Hall.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen (surviving husband, George)
Schnelten.
Mr. Howard served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He
farmed in Green e County until 1952 when they moved to Springfield, where
he worked at the Fiat-Allis Plant, retiring in 1980.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Belltown
Cemetery in Belltown. Family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. until time
of services Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the Visiting Nurses of
Sangamon County, the Sangamon County Hospice Association or the
Green e County Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Laurence Hubbard
Laurence Hubbard, 91, of Pittsfield died Sunday morning (October 1, 2000) at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born December 22, 1908 in Pike County the son of Jacob and Laura Skeels Hubbard.
He married Ruth Jackson November 1, 1930 in Virginia, Illinois.
She preceded him in death July 10, 1992.
Mr. Hubbard attended Franklin country school and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He also attended Western Illinois Teachers College. He taught country school for several years, served one term as Pittsfield City Clerk, he worked at Brown Shoe Co. and was a custodian at Pittsfield High School for over 25 years. He was a US Navy veteran of World War two serving aboard LSM 151 in the Philipine Islands.
He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and the Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers Jake, Charles and Bill Hubbard, 5 sisters Frances Hubbard, Mary Ator, Jessie Hubbard, Mabel Fletcher, and Edna Drake.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday (October 3, 2000) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of the service.

Mrs. Edna Mae Hudson (Simmons)
Edna Mae Hudson, 82, of South Jacksonville died peacefully at her residence Monday morning, July 3, 2000. She was born on June 18, 1918 in rural Morgan County the daughter of Perry and Gertrude Alred Simmons. She married Wayne Hudson on October 10, 1937 at the Murrayville Baptist Church in Murrayville and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Ruth (husband, Bill) Dawson of Jacksonville; one son, Alan (wife, Barbara) Hudson of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Helen Spencer of Littleton, Colorado. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Simmons, and two brothers, Emory (surviving wife Alene of Jacksonville) and Ralph Simmons.
Mrs. Hudson was assistant Postmaster for 24 years in Manchester, before becoming Postmaster for three years. She was later employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Jacksonville Developmental Center. She was a member of the Manchester Baptist Church for over sixty years, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer. She was a co-founder of the Manchester Baptist Church Retreat and had been a 4-H leader.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at the Manchester Baptist Church with burial at Manchester Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Bonnie Lee Hughes (Burris)
Bonnie Lee “Ma” Hughes, 69, of Waverly, died on Monday, February 19, 2001 at her residence. She was born on June 11, 1931, in Mill Springs, Kentucky, the daughter of Samuel G. and Lucy Ellis Carroll Burris. She married Stanley N. C. Hughes on August 15, 1952, in Muncie, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1976.
She is survived by three sons: Amos (wife, Peggy) Barnhouse of Orient, Iowa, Brent (wife, Sandy) Hughes of Auburn and Stanley (wife, Sheila) Hughes of Waverly; two daughters: Jackie (husband, Alan) Cloyd of Anderson, Indiana and Brenda Magelitz of Waverly; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rena West of New Castle, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one grand daughter; three brothers, Everett, Delbert and James Burris; and four sisters, Odell Neal, Della Bates, Effie Bronnenberg and Nina Joan Goodman.
Mrs. Hughes retired from Anderson Clayton in Jacksonville as a machine operator after 20 years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad or Waverly East Cemetery.
Mrs. Stella A. Hutchings
Stella A. Hutchings, 97, of Glasgow passed away late Saturday evening (August 5, 2000) at her home.
She was born March 3, 1903 in Canton the daughter of Franklin A. and Hattie Law Howard.
She married Troy E. Hutchings October 11, 1927 in Macon County, IL. He preceded her in death May 31, 1973.
Mrs. Hutchings graduated from Blue Mound High School and attended Illinois State College at Normal and MacMurray College in Jacksonville. She was a SchoolTeacher in Macon, Green e, and Scott Counties, teaching for 35 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Home Extension, and the Glasgow Baptist Church where she was very active, teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was the oldest living member of the Women’s Missionary Union in the Sandy Creek Association.
Survivors include her son Howard E. (wife Peggy) Hutchings of Cheyenne, Wyoming, daughters Jean (husband William) Carmean of rural Arenzville and Mary Lou Hutchings of Glasgow. 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and a special friend Bonnie Brown of Patterson
Also surviving is a sister Glenna Lamb of Peoria and a brother Carl Howard of Winchester.
Preceding her in death was her husband and a sister Gladys Shepherd and brothers George Howard, Buell Howard, Earl Howard, Loren Howard and one infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday August 8, 2000 at the Glasgow Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 PM on Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mr. John Ingels
John C. Ingels, 50, of Jacksonville died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2000 at John Cochran Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on September 20, 1949 in Beardstown the son of Glenn and Nellie Mae Waters Ingels.
He is survived by one brother, Ronald J. (wife, Dorothy J.) Ingels of Rochester; two nieces, three grand-nieces and one grand-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Ingels was a twenty year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) in Springfield. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed playing pool and was active in local pool leagues and tournaments. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville.
Private services were held at Ripley Cemetery in Ripley, Illinois. The Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville was in charge of arrangements.
William Dean Jarrett
William Dean Jarrett, 70, of Jacksonville died Monday afternoon, September 25, 2000 at his residence. He was born on January 5, 1930 in Jacksonville the son of William Dennis and Mabelle Deatherage Jarrett. He married Shirley Irene Eyman on September 11, 1955 and she survives.
Mr. Jarrett is survived by two sons, Lynndell Jarrett of Jacksonville, and Darryn Jarrett of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two daughters, Lynnellen M. (husband, David) Briggs of Patterson and Deananne (husband, Robert) Surratt of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, and his special caregiver, Jack Moore of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Wayne Jarrett and Verne Dennis Jarrett, and two sisters, Wanda M. Jarrett and Blanche B. Jarrett.
Mr. Jarrett was educated in local schools and graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1948 and thereafter attended Hardin Brown Business College. He was employed as a legal secretary from 1948 to 1958, at which time he became a Court Reporter and was employed by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts as an Official Court Reporter for the Seventh Judicial Circuit. He held this position until retirement in November of 1993. He remained a Certified Shorthand Reporter licensed by the State of Illinois.
Mr. Jarrett was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on the Church Board and various committees for many years. He is affiliated with the Republican Party and served for eleven years as an officer of Illinois Young Republicans, seven of them as State Secretary. He received numerous honors for service as campaign coordinator for district, state, and national candidates.
Mr. Jarrett is a Past President of Cass-Morgan-Scott Legal Secretaries Association and a former member of the State and National Associations, as well as other state and national professional societies of Court Reporters. He is a member of Jacksonville Lodge #682, B.P.O. Elks, a life member of Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library and a contributor to numerous civic organizations.
Mr. Jarrett had considered himself a “professional” Mason for many years. His Masonic Career began with his initiation into Order of DeMolay, Henry Clampit Chapter, in Jacksonville in 1947. He was raised in May of 1951 in Jacksonville Lodge #570, A.F. & A.M. and became a Master Mason in 1967. He became Lodge Secretary in 1972, a position he held until his death. Mr. Jarrett held memberships and was active in R.A.M., Chapter #3, R.& S.M. Council #5, K.T. Hospitaller Commandery #31, M.O.V.P.E.R., Zingabad Grotto, and O.E.S., Wilber Chapter #358, all in Jacksonville; A.A.S.R., Valley of Springfield, A.A.O.N.M.S., Ansar Temple, R.C. of C. , St. Edward Conclave, and K.M., Earl of Torell Council #24, all in Springfield. He held numerous other membership and honorary memberships in Masonic organizations throughout Illinois and the United States.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., at which time Masonic services will be held. Memorials are suggested to Jacksonville Lodge #570, A.F. & A.M., or the Grand Royal Arch Chapter Veil Trust Fund.
Mrs. Verda L. Jessie
Verda L. Jessie, 50, of rural Jacksonville, died of natural causes on Monday evening, August 21, 2000, at her residence.
She was born on November 8, 1949, in Winchester, the daughter of Roy and Claudine Turner Williams. She married John Jessie on September 23, 1972 and he survives.
She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was precededin death by her mother.
Mrs. Jessie had been employed by Teksonics in Jacksonville. She enjoyed reading and Country Music.
Graveside Services will be held at 1p.m. on Thursday at Corinth Cemetery near Salem, Missouri. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. David "Doodle" Jobe
David Wayne “Doodle” Jobe, 32, of Franklin, died Monday morning, August 21, 2000, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born on May 6, 1968, in Rushville, the son of Gary Wayne and Edith Mae “Edie” Rigg. He married Sherry Ann Watkins October 26, 1991 at Harts Prairie Church, in rural Franklin, and she survives.
He is also survived by his father, of Chambersburg; two daughters: Jennifer and Jessica of Franklin; two sisters: Brenda (husband, Gilbert) Holder of Chambersburg and Carrie (husband, Timothy) Lanning of Versailles; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother n 1997.
Mr. Jobe was the assistant manager of Carter Lumber in Jacksonville and a member of Hart’s Prairie Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Providence Cemetery in Franklin. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family meeting friends from 5-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Rios Children’s Fund in care of The Franklin Bank in Franklin.
Daisy P. Jones (Scoggins)
Daisy P. Jones, 98, of Carrollton died at 12:05 A.M. on Monday Nov. 20,
2000 at White Hall Muliticare Center in White Hall.
Born in Kane on Sept. 10, 1902 she was the daughter of the late John
Scoggins and the late Elizabeth Varble Scoggins Gage.
She married Pearl Jones on Feb. 23, 1920 and he preceded her in 1976.
Surviving are 2 sons: Bill Jones of Carrollton and Bob Jones of Arizona.
8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. 1 Sister:
Flora Jones of Jerseyville.
She was preceded in death by a son Benny, 2 grandchildren and 2 sisters
and 2 brothers.
Mrs. Jones had worked at the International Shoe Co. in Jerseyville many
years ago.
Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. on Saturday Nov. 25, 2000 at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be held at 2 P.M.
at the funeral home with burial in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery southwest of
Carrollton. Memorials are mentioned to the cemetery.
Mrs. Martha L. Jones (Steele)
Martha L. Jones, 72, of Jacksonville died early Saturday morning, May 27, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born on June 25, 1927 in Moline, Illlinois the daughter of R.O. and Mallie Auten Steele. She married M.C. Jones on July 31, 1948 and he survives.
She is also survived by one sister, Jean Marie (husband, Harold) Carter and one brother, James Howard Steele, both of Jacksonville, and several nieces, nephews, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert G. Steele (surviving wife Patsy of Jacksonville.)
Mrs. Jones worked in the accounting office at Passavant Hospital, prior to her retirement in 1987.
