Mr. Clarence S. Lakamp
Clarence S. Lakamp, 92, of Chapin died Wednesday morning, November 22, 2000 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. He was born on January 25, 1908 in Scott County the son of Gus and Anna Tholen Lakamp. He married Ruth L. Nortrup on February 5, 1938 in Bowling Green , Missouri and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1999.
He is survived by three sons, David (wife, Becky) Lakamp of Murrayville, Rev. Bruce (wife, Deborah) Lakamp of El Paso, and James (wife, Susan) Lakamp of Chapin; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two brothers, Edwin Lakamp and Herman (wife, Marion) Lakamp, both of Chapin; and one sister, Kathryn Lakamp of Chapin.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Lakamp; one daughter-in-law, Karen Strang Lakamp; one grandson; two brothers, Fred Lakamp and Elmer Lakamp; two sisters, Freda Lakamp and Mayme Detmer, and one sister in infancy.
Mr. Lakamp farmed in the Chapin area his entire life. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Chapin, and a member of the St. Paul’s Men’s Club, Grace Cemetery Board, and the Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Chapin. Burial will be at Grace Cemetery at Chapin. The remains will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Friends may call after noon on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bethesda Lutheran Home, or the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Rita Surratt Lakin
Rita Surratt Lakin, 79, of Springfield and formerly of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, June 10, 2000 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born on July 2, 1920 the daughter of Jesse Calvin and Eva Jane Phillips Hicks. She married Raymond R. Surratt, Jr. on July 15, 1939 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on August 29, 1988. She later married James Lakin in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hurrelbrink and Janice Lewis, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Dean (wife, Mary) Hicks of Morton and Harley Hicks of Carrollton. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Hicks and one sister, Adline Hinegardner.
Mrs. Lakin worked as a seamstress at J. Capps and Sons for 33 years. She was later employed at Captiol/EMI. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Jacksonville for 27 years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Hospice or the South Side Christian Church in Springfield.
Mrs. Zula R. Langley (Gassert)
Zula R. Langley, 82, of Carrollton died at 1:50 P.M. on Sunday Dec. 3, 2000
at the Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Redding, Pa. on Feb. 6, 1918 she was the daughter of the late
Edward and Lillie Neischwander Gassert.
On June 28, 1943 she married Albert Frank Langley in St. Charles, Mo.
and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: Barb and Kevin Henneberg of
Carrollton, a grandson Mark Hopper of Thayer and 2 great grandchildren. A
sister: Mae Stoltz of Frystown, Pa. also survives.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mrs. Langley was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and had
worked many years at Jim Flowers’ Plumbing in Carrollton.
Graveside rites will be held on Tuesday at 3 P.M. at the Fernwood
Cemetery in Roodhouse. Memorials are mentioned to the Green e Co. Health
Dept. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of

Mr. James L. Lanhum
James L. Lanhum, age 61, of Hull, Ill. died Wednesday afternoon (January 3, 2001) at his residence.
He was born March 21, 1939 in Pittsfield, Ill. son of Leonard Lanhum and Marie Lanhum Brown.
He married Wilma N. Galloway on January 4, 1975 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Marie Brown of Pittsfield, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Teresa) Ralph of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, James E. Lanhum and wife Kim of Pittsfield, Ill.; three step-daughters, Davine Welch and Dorinda Wells both of Hannibal, Mo., and Mrs. Robert (Doretta) DeLaPorte of Palmyra, Mo.; one step-son, Demetrius Welch and wife Kathy of Pittsfield, Ill.; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patty Tayon of Griggsville, Ill., Judy Hemstead of Ojai, California, and Mary Ann Dabney of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one stepson, David Welch.
Mr. Lanhum attended Pittsfield High School and was a former employee of WIPCO and Sny Island Levee Drainage District. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and drinking coffee with his friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (January 6, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Ron Abney officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the Pike County Ambulance.
Patricia A. Large (Hickle)
Patricia A Large, 73, of Jacksonville died early Sunday morning, December 3, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on August 30, 1927 in Pittsfield the daughter of Glen and Opal Murphy Hickle. She married James B. Large on May 18, 1947 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1991.
She is survived by four sons, Robert J. (wife, Susan) Large and Michael (wife, Kristine) Large, both of Jacksonville; Mark (wife, Julie) Large of Columbus, Ohio; and Gary (wife, Bonita) Large of Woodson; one daughter, Cindy Bonjean of Jacksonville; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Barbara Brewster of Ironton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sandra Ray; and one brother, Robert Hickle.
Mrs. Large served as office manager for J.B. Large and Sons Painting in Jacksonville. She was a longtime member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Jacksonville where she served as Treasurer for many years and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Explorers Bible Study.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Brooklyn United Methodist Church.
George Evert Lawson
George Evert Lawson, 92, of Winchester died late Sunday evening at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center.
He was born April 29, 1908 in Scott County the son of the late Albert and Mary Hayes Lawson. He married Naomi Ruth LeFever March 31, 1933 in Quincy. She preceded him in death December 14, 1985. Also preceding him in death were 2 brothers William and Leonard Lawson and a sister Rose Groce.
Mr. Lawson attended Bloomfield Country School he resided and farmed in the Winchester area all his adult life. He was a member of the Winchester United Methodist Church, he was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, he had been active in the Scott County Junior Fair Association where he was President for several years. He was a 4-H leader, a member of Farm Bureau, the Duroc Association. He enjoyed making burgoo for family and friends.
He devoted his life to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children Ken E. (wife Shirley) Lawson of Winchester, Rita Kay (husband Jack) Lawless of Winchester, Donna J. Lawson of Winchester, Vicki R. Werries of Jacksonville, Thomas G. Lawson of Jacksonville. 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 sister Alberta Downey of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday (Dec. 6,2000) at the Winchester United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 until 8:30 PM.

Mrs. Mary Frances LeBrun (Moris)
Mary Frances Morris LeBrun, 76, formerly of Deerfield, died early Thursday morning, July 18, 2000 at Harmony of Kenosha in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was born on October 10, 1923 in Jacksonville, the daughter of James and Frances Morris. She married Henry J. LeBrun on June 24, 1945 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1999.
She is survived by one son, Chuck (wife Mary) LeBrun of Egg harbor, Wisconsin; one daughter, Cindy (husband, Paul) Kruger of Kenosha; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Don Morris and Jim Morris.
Mrs. LeBrun was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed Bridge and Golf. She was of the Catholic faith.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2000 at Exeter Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
Lila Leffler (Gillespie)
Lila Leffler, 72, of Jacksonville died Friday morning, November 17, 2000 at Skyview Terrace Ltd. in Jacksonville. She was born on May 12, 1928 in Jacksonville the daughter of Harold and Evelyn Davis Gillespie. She married Howard Leffler on July 28, 1946 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on February 27, 1995.
She is survived by four sons, Michael Leffler and William Leffler, both of Jacksonville; Robert Leffler of Fortuna, California, and John Leffler of San Bernadino, California; one daughter, Debbie Mendez of Lake Isabella, California; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Gillespie.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Florence L. Lemons (Lambert)
Florence L. “Fletta” Lemons, age 80, of rural White Hall, died
Thursday evening, Dec. 14, 2000 at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in
Carrollton.
She was born Oct. 1, 1920 in Chicago, the daughter of Earl and Edith
Seibert Lambert.
She married James M. Lemons on June 15, 1943 in Pittsfield and he
preceded her in death on July 20, 1979.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (husband, Donald) Nell
of White Hall and Ruth Ann (husband, James) Flowers of Carrollton; ten
grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two sisters, Sarah Hooker of
Three Rivers, MI and Bernice Massie of Frederick. She was preceded in
death by one great grandchild, Taylor Clanton.
Mrs. Lemons received her BA and BS Degrees at Carthage College
and her Masters Degree in Special Education at SIU Edwardsville. She
taught high school at Bluffs, Calhoun and North Green e High School for
many years, retiring in 1967. She was a real estate broker in the White Hall
area for many years. She spent many winters at Sanibel Island. She enjoyed
quilting and belonged to the Sanibel Quilting Club and was active in the
Community Church in Sanibel Island. She was a member of the White Hall
Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at the White Hall
Presbyterian Church with burial in the White Hall Cemetery. The family
will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are suggested to the Green e
County Health Department.
Mrs. Mary Jeanette Liles
Mary Jeanette Liles, 95, of Rockford, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at St. Anne Center.
She was born November 13, 1904, in Woodville Township, Green e County, the daughter of Perry Otis and Eunice Sephronia Woods Admire Short. She married Otis Liles on August 25, 1932, in Carrollton and she preceded him in death in 1953.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice Ann (husband, Stanley) Peterson of Rockford and Dunwoody, Georgia; one grandson; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Ray Admire, Edgar Short, Roy Short, Raymond Short, and George Delbert Short and one sister: Lucy Short Beem.
Mrs. Liles lived for 62 years in Rockford, coming from Carrollton. She was an elementary school teacher in the Harlem Consolidated School District. She taught third grade at Marquette Elementary School in Machesney Park before her retirement in 1970. She also taught commercial education in Carrollton and Warrensburg. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church and a member of the Mayflower Circle of the church. She also a member of the Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association.
She graduated from Carrollton High School and completed studies in commercial education at Illinois State University in Normal. She graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday,in Gordon Chapel,Second Congregational Church, Rockford, Illinois. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at Mt.Gilead Cemetery in Carrollton. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Second Congregational Church, 318 North Church Street, Rockford, Illinois, 61101 or the Center for Sight and Hearing Impaired, 625 Adams Street, Rockford, Illinois 61107. Mr. Charles "Cal" Lippert Jr.
Charles A. “Cal” Lippert Jr., 81, of Carrollton died at 9:30 P.M. on Friday at
his residence.
Born in East St. Louis, Il. on March 30, 1919 he was the son of the late
Charles A. Lippert Sr. and Katherine Kiehna Lippert.
He was preceded in death by his former wife Mary Carmody Lippert.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Mrs. Mel “Patsi” Diehl of Cherry Hill, N.J.
Mrs. Dean “Carole” Mann of Carrollton and Pam Lippert of Brighton.
1 son: Rob ( wife-Denise) Lippert of Carrollton. There are 8 grandchildren
surviving.
Mr. Lippert was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran and had worked for a
number of years at Owens-Illinois in Alton prior to retirement.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Wednesday at 10
A.M. with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Carrollton. Memorials
may be made to the Blessing Hospice of Green e Co., the Green e Co. Visiting
Nurses or the Green e Co. Senior Citizens.
Mr. Ralph Edward Long
Ralph Edward Long, 75, of Franklin, died Friday, December 29, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on February 17, 1925, in Morgan County, the son of Javan Julius and Jennie E. Preston Long.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Joseph (wife, Nancy) of Franklin and terry Wayne (wife Edith) of Chatham; two daughters, Carol Ann (husband, Larry Dale) Coats of Jacksonville and Sharon Lea Johanek of Winthrop Harbor, and one former daughter-in-law, Marie Long of Franklin, with whom he made his home for a while; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey of Jacksonville and Roy of Waverly; and two sisters, Myrtle Henderson of Shelbina, Missouri and Marjorie White of Franklin. He was preceded in death by one brother, Julius “Bud” Long and four sisters: Bonnie, Betty, Mary and Martha.
Mr. Long was a bus driver and mechanic for School District # 1 for more than 20 years. He was instrumental in initiating the use of citizen band radios for the buses. Because of that interest in CBs, he was a member of a CB club in Jacksonville for some time. He worked as a welder for a while, farmed and worked at land tilling for several years. He also worked for Stone Brothers Implement in Waverly at one time. He was a member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was a member of the Franklin Village Board for several years. He helped with the Fourth of July fireworks display for many years. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, New Years Day 2001 at Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. The family will meet friends from 2:30 –5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.
