Mary Lou Longley (Stewart)
Mary Lou Longley, 67, of Jacksonville died Tuesday morning, December 19, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on September 13, 1933 in Waverly the daughter of Edgar Arnold and Eliza Mae Seymour Stewart.
She is survived by three sons, Timothy Longley of Waco, Texas, Toby (wife, Sharon) Longley of Concord, and Tommy Longley of Jacksonville; one daughter, Tamara (husband, John) Norwood of Iola, Texas; twelve grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Stewart.
Mrs. Longley graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1951. She had been employed at General Telephone until 1969. She then worked in Outpatient at Passavant Hospital, remaining there until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed bingo, cards, dominoes, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Longley had attended First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Connie Lou Lowder (Staton)
Connie Lou Staton Lowder, 62 of rural Franklin died suddenly Tuesday afternoon June 20, 2000 in Waverly. She was born on January 30, 1938 in Waverly the daughter of Irvin and Marie Brown Staton. She married H. Wayne Lowder on January 30, 1960 in Jacksonville and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Mark (wife Robin) Lowder of Waverly and Michael Lowder of Springfield; two brothers: Irvin (wife Marilyn) Staton of Northglen, Colorado; Charles William “Bill” (wife Kathy) Staton of Dotham, Alabama; one sister: Betty (husband Ed) Beal of Franklin. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Donald Eugene Staton, brothers, Robert, Ray and Leonard and two sisters: Mary Van Dyne and Verda Mae Lowder.
Mrs. Lowder was a homemaker.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2000 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will meet friends on Thursday, June 22, 2000 from 5 to 8 p.m.. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly East Cemetery or Waverly Rescue Squad.
Mr. Melvin W. Lowe
Melvin W. Lowe, 83, of Jacksonville died Wednesday evening, August 9, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born on September 22, 1916 in Arenzville, the son of John D. and Edna M. Mallicoat Lowe. He married Catherine Servance on June 18, 1938 at Palmyra, Missouri and she preceded him in death on July 1, 1977.
He is survived by one daughter, Connie (husband, James) Potter of Jacksonville; one son, Melvin Edward “Butch” Lowe of Chapin; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a cousin who was raised in the home, Leroy Mallicoat of Texas. He was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Gary D. Lowe.
Mr. Lowe lived his entire adult life in Jacksonville. He worked as a baker for over 38 years. Mr. Lowe was co-owner of C & L Auction house, owned a restaurant in Chandlerville in the 1960’s and retired as a baker at Carole Jean’s IGA. He was a long time member of the Moose Lodge #865. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a devoted family man.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2000 at Grace United Methodist Church with burial at Arenzville East Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are suggested to Morgan County Cancer Transportation Fund.
Mr. Lee Roy Lowery
Lee Roy Lowery 73, of Virden, died Monday, February 19, 2001 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born July 19, 1927 in Dedrick, Missouri, the son of Samuel and Gladys Lenore Lawrence Lowery. He married Helen Cordelia Hicks on February 17, 1956 in Virden, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Linda (husband David) Lindsay of Dewey, Illinois; Millie (husband Harold) Gilpin of Cuba, Illinois; Carol (husband Jeff) Baggerly of Springfield; one brother Clifford (wife Jean) Lowery of Girard, Illinois; two sisters: Doris (husband Rich) Morris of Midlothian, Illinois; Lida Huitt of Apple Valley, California; one brother-in-law Noel (wife Wanda) Hicks of Palmyra, Illinois; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In 1993 he retired from Prairie Farms Dairy after 40 years, having worked in Canton, Illinois, San Jose, Illinois and Carlinville, Illinois. He also farmed. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and Canton Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2001 in Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. The Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2001, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Fund.
Mr. Kenneth H. Lyons
Kenneth Howard Lyons, 78, of Waverly, died Thursday, October 26, 2000 at his residence.
He was born on November 25, 1921, in Waverly, the son of Jesse and Norma Lee Dennis Lyons. He married Evelyn Curtis Breeze on June 9, 1947, in Maysville, Kentucky and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Daymon (wife, Karen) of Waverly; two daughters, Peggy (husband, Bob) McNeely of Waverly and Amy (husband, Joel) Gustafson of Green view; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alpha Murphy of Canton.
Mr. Lyons was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church and the Waverly VFW Post 4866.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2000 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Mr. Earl E. Lyons
Earl E. Lyons, Sr., 70, of Jacksonville died Wednesday afternoon, December 20, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born September 28, 1930 in Lincoln the son of Leland Ray and Pansy D. Cartee Lyons. He married Merna J. Dickerson on November 30, 1952 at Centenary United Methodist in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, David Lyons of Jacksonville and Earl E. (wife, J. Renee) Lyons, Jr. of Springfield; one daughter, Mary Lyons of Jacksonville; one foster daughter Mary Melinda Fowler of Nevada, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, one brother, William E. (wife, Sharon) Lyons of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl C. Morthole.
Mr. Lyons worked in the poultry business with his dad for a few years after finishing school and later worked with the State of Illinois Highway Department for eight years. After leaving the highway department, Mr. Lyons worked as a toymaker for Tom Armstrong and later worked as a jailer for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and as a driver for the Jacksonville State Hospital. In 1970, Mr. Lyons went to work as an investigator for the Secretary of State Police, a position he held until his retirement in 1991.
Mr. Lyons served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1948-51. He was a member of Lodge #570, A.F.& A.M., Zingabad Grotto, Wilbur Chapter #358 Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Post 279, VFW Post 1379, and was recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, International Order of Rainbow Girls. He was a member of Central Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at which time Masonic Rites will be conducted. Memorials are suggested to Passavant Area Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Mr. William Mason
William Mason, 88 of Girard and formerly of Scottville, died Saturday afternoon, October 14, 2000 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born on August 10, 1912 in Monticello, Kentucky, the son of Minnie Cole and Ira Hamm. He married Lela Mae Hart in 1930 and she preceded him in death on February 14, 1985.
He is survived by two sons: Charles (wife, Doris) of Tiskilwa and Franklin (wife, Kathy) of Bradford; two daughters, Vivian (husband, Raymond) Nance of Girard and Margaret Vestel of Girard; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great- grandchildren; three sisters: Vidas Delay of Pekin, Zelma (husband, Dan) Spears of Beardstown and Zora Lomelino of Roodhouse; one brother, Orville Hamm of Colorado; and several ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Melvin Mason; one stepson, Dale Hart; three sisters: Pearl Lyons, Phyllis Turner, and Rena Lawson; and two brothers: Albert and Alvin Hamm.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at the Stults-Neece Funeral home in Palmyra, with burial at Bull Cemetery in Franklin.
Visitaion will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Girard Rescue Squad.
Mr. James E. "Big Jim" Mason
James E. Mason, 61, of Jacksonville died unexpectedly Monday evening, June 12, 2000 at his residence. He was born on November 5, 1938 in Jacksonville the son of Byron Eugene and Myrtle Lee Barber Mason. He married Glenna J. Russwinkel on July 31, 1957 on the racetrack of the Jacksonville Motor Speedway during the Morgan County Fair. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1997.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy (husband, Tom) Rust of Alexander and Lisa (husband, Dan) Magelitz of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; adopted children: Brenda Baptist- Protz of Vandalia and Brian Baptist of Jacksonville, and a special friend, Joy Pitman of Green field. He was preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Mason was employed for forty years at Mobil Chemical, later Tenneco, prior to his retirement in July of 1998. He was a member of the Jacksonville Sportsman’s Club, National Rifle Association, and Prairieland Heritage Museum. Mr. Mason was an avid hunter, bowled at the Bowl Inn for CR’s Drive-in, enjoyed square dancing, and collected and refurbished antique motors and steam engines.

Mrs. Audrey Kay Mayes (Ford)
Audrey Kay Mayes, 62, of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, June 10, 2000 in St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born May 8, 1938 in Waverly, a daughter of Walter William and Helen Fern Seales Ford. She married Donald F. Mayes on July 20, 1960 in Waverly and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Gary Todd (Wife Dawn) Mayes, of Parker, Colorado; Michael Wade (Wife Andrea) Mayes of Petersburg, Illinois; Ronald Ford (Wife Debbie) Mayes of Lakewood, Colorado; one daughter, Lori Mayes (husband Steve) Doolin of Glasgow, Illinois; one brother: John (Wife Grace) Ford of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters: Shirley Ann (husband Jim) Vinnola, of Lakewood, Colorado, Janice Jean (husband Maurice) Robertson, of Jacksonville; Nancy (husband Jim) Howard, of Cary, North Carolina; ten grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Mayes was a registered nurse at the Jacksonville Correctional Center for many years.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. The family will receive friends form 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Hospice, Springfield.
Mr. Albert L. Mayes
Albert Leroy Mayes, 90, of Palmyra, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000 in Pleasant Hill Village in Girard. He was born on April 19, 1910 east of Palmyra, a son of William and Emma Diesel Mayes. He married Mildred Pinkerton on July 26, 1932 in Palmyra, and she survives.
Also surviving are: one son, Kenneth (wife, Geri) of Lincoln; three daughters: Janette (husband, Harold) Sorrells of Portland, Oregon; Helen (husband, Dean) Stayton, of Carlinville; Sarah (husband, Larry) Hagaman of Springfield; one sister, Dorothy Stults of Carlinville; ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Henry Carl Mayes in 1955, two brothers, Harry and Frank Mayes; one sister, Opal Mayes, and grandson, Jason Ford.
Mr. Mayes graduated from Palmyra High School in 1928, was employed by the Chicago, Peoria and St. Louis Railroad for seven years and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after twenty-four years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will meet friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Vernon L. "Vern" McCloskey
Vernon L. “Vern” McCloskey, 61, of Jacksonville died suddenly Thursday morning, June 15, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Health Center in St. Charles, Missouri. He was born July 17, 1938 in Cuba, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Lorena Long McCloskey. He married Mary Maxson on July 23, 1961 in Canton and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Lisa (husband, Mike) Feller of Jacksonville; one son, Brian (wife, Lynn) McCloskey of Springfield; one granddaughter, five brothers, Robert (wife, Patricia) McCloskey of Belleview, Florida, William (wife, Loraine) McCloskey of Ft. Myers, Florida, Dick McCloskey of Canton, Illinois, Kenneth McCloskey of Tampa, Florida and Larry (wife, Helen) McCloskey of Springfield, Ohio and one sister, Shirley (husband, Delbert) Price of Alexis, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene.
Mr. McCloskey was an Allstate insurance agent in Jacksonville for twenty five years. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Army Reserves for 10 years.

Mr. Donald Lee McCoy
Donald Lee McCoy, 73 of Quincy and formerly of Pittsfield died Monday evening, November 6, 2000 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born on July 4, 1927 in Eldorado, Kansas, the son of Charles Cecil and Lula Ann Rose McCoy. He married Rosemary Nash on October 13, 1945 in Decatur and she survives in Springfield.
He is also survived by one son, Delbert Eugene (wife, Linda) McCoy of Mason, Ohio; two daughters, Marla (husband, David Nunes of Quincy and Nancy (husband, Tom) Eck of Springfield; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and one sister, Wanda (husband, Col. O.D.) Graham of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers, Tory Lee McCoy and Charles Cecil McCoy.
Mr. McCoy had been office manager at Lundia-Meyer in Jacksonville and Decatur, and most recently, manager of Kamar Buildings in Pittsfield. He was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Pittsfield. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball in Jacksonville for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2000 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice in Quincy.
Dennis McCoy
Dennis McCoy, 46, of Jacksonville died Sunday, December 3, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born January 28, 1954 in Quincy the son of Alvin and Constance Hayes McCoy.
Mr. McCoy is survived by one sister,
Sandra Hagen of Beddington Beach, Florida. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Immanuel East Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Edward Luther McGee
Edward Luther McGee, 68, of Murrayville died Saturday morning, August 19, 2000 at his residence. He was born on October 5, 1931 in Beardstown, Illinois the son of John Luther and Laura Belle Trent McGee. He married Betty June Winchester on November 13, 1950 in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on April 11, 1994. He later married Betty McMillen Pilkington on December 7, 1996 in Murrayville and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Londa (husband,Elon) Howe of Newaygo, Michigan; two sons, Edward Lowell (wife, Mary) McGee of Murrayville and Bruce Jay “B.J.” McGee of Peoria; four grandsons, three granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, three step-sons, James Allen (wife, Mary) Pilkington of Jacksonville, Michael Pilkington of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mark Pilkington of Roodhouse; four step-granddaughters, one step-great-grandson, three brothers, Donald (wife, Joan) McGee of Donnellson, Georgia, Delmer McGee of Bluffs, and Clinton (wife, Rosa) McGee of Bogota; three sisters, Maggie Woods of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Eunice McNeece of Winchester, and Laura Eileen (husband, Don) Randolph of Springfield; and one half-brother, Cecil Hulett of Bethalto.
He was preceded in death by one son, Eric Scott McGee; two brothers, Ralph and John; one brother in infancy; and two sisters Nellie Graham and Helen Pasch.
Mr. McGee was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic and a member of Operating Engineers Local 965-Springfield for over 40 years. He served in the United State Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Robert T. McGlasson
Robert T. McGlasson, 73, of Eldred died at 4:39 A.M. on Thursday
August 31, 2000 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born in Carrollton on May 3, 1927 he was the son of the late Arthur Byrl
and Helen Shackelford McGlasson.
On Feb. 6, 1948 he married the former Yvonne “Bonnie” L. Melow in
Carrollton and she survives.
Also surviving are: 2 daughters: Mrs. Charles “Sue” Barnett of
Carrollton and Mrs. Greg “Penny” Brannan of Eldred and 2 sons: Mark McGlasson of Clinton and Alan (wife, Gloria) McGlasson of Shipman.
9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren survive as does a sister Nadine
Carmody of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by 1 brothers: Billy McGlasson and 1 sister, Rex Hermans.
Mr. McGlasson was a rural mail carrier for many years and was a WWII
Navy Veteran serving on the carrier Lexington. He was a 53 year member of
the Eldred American Legion Post.
Following cremation memorial graveside rites will be held at Glasgow
Cemetery in Glasgow on Saturday at 10 A.M. Memorials may be made to
the Eldred American Legion who will provide graveside military rites.
Following the graveside rites the family will meet friends at the Eldred
American Legion Hall. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in
charge.
Mr. Wallace "Jack" Meyer
Wallace “Jack” Meyer, 79, of Jacksonville died early Thursday morning, May 18, 2000 at his residence. He was born on January 20, 1921 in Rochester, New York the son of Louis and Amy Kaufman Meyer. He married Claire Ambeau on August 2, 1946 in Rochester and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, John (wife, Marsha) Meyer of Jacksonville and Matthew (wife, Cindy) Meyer of Afton, Wyoming; four daughters, Penny (husband, Bob) Gaither of Houston, Texas, Kathie Ticknor of San Diego, California, Shelly (husband, Russ) North of Carpenteria, California, and Kim (husband, Jay) O’Donnell of Easthampton, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Bernice Schapp of Summer Hill, New York.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob, and Jim, his identical twin.
Mr. Meyer was a commercial artist for 29 years at Mobil Chemical , retiring in 1986. After retirement, he owned and operated Jax Inc. advertising agency in Jacksonville. He graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College and Rochester Institute of Technology, after which time he taught high school art. Mr. Meyer served in the United States Air Force during World War II as a turret gunner. He was a Prisoner of War in Austria, imprisoned in Stalag 17. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze and Silver Stars and the Flying Fish.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2000 at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Barbara Ann Mitchell (Sims)
Barbara Ann Mitchell, 42, of Waverly died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on August 28, 1957 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Marvin and Josephine Day Sims. She married John Richard Mitchell on October 27, 1979 in Waverly, and he survives.
Also surving are her parents, one daughter, Stephanie Mitchell, at home; one brother, Edward (wife, Connie) Sims of Springfield; and one sister, Mary Sims of St. Peters, Missouri.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Waverly; and the Nurture Committtee of the Waverly United Methodist Church.
