Mrs. Ida Mae Oney (Gross)
Ida Mae Oney, 85, of Alton and formerly of St. Louis, died on Friday afternoon, February 9, 2001 at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born October 29, 1915 in Altus, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward George and Clara Lydia Schmidt Gross. She married Charles H. Oney on October 14, 1938, and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1993.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda (husband, David) Tiffany of Jacksonville; two grandsons and their spouses; one great-grand-daughter; two sisters-in-law; two nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Theodore and Walter Gross; one nephew; and an infant daughter.
Mrs. Oney, who lived most of her life in Missouri, had been valedictorian of Wright City High School and an outstanding athlete and musician in her youth. She graduated from Central Wesleyan College in Warrenton, Missouri, with additional course work at what was then Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville, Missouri. She was a teacher in rural schools in Warren and Lincoln Counties in Missouri until her marriage. She later served as a church secretary and newspaper correspondent. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and served as church musician as long as health permitted. She was past Matron of the Lincoln Chapter 295 of the O.E.S. in Wright City, Missouri.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Union United Methodist Church in Wright City Missouri, with private burial at the Wright City, Missouri Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Ferguson, Missouri or the music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Richard "Dick" Orr
Richard “Dick” Orr, age 71, of Perry, Ill. died 9:38 p.m. Sunday (October 1, 2000) at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill..
He was born April 18, 1929 in Fairmount Township, Pike County, Ill. son of the late Russel and Mary Eliza Noble Orr.
He married Jackie Elledge on January 7, 1951 in Pittsfield, Illinois and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Eric (Patricia Anne) Goewey of Holloman A.F.B. in Alamogordo, New Mexico; two sons, Rich Orr and wife Sherry of Brookshire, Texas, and Jerry Orr of Perry, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Jon (Keli) Mummert of Astoria, Ill., Michael Booth of Warrensburg, Mo., Jamie Moser of Anchorage, Alaska, Jessica and Jennifer Orr of Mt. Sterling, Ill.; Evan Goewey of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Brian Cramer of Brookshire, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Chase Mummert of Astoria, Ill.; four sisters, Margaret Tipsword of Pittsfield, Ill., Arlene Reese of rural Griggsville, Ill., Edith Curry of Perry, Ill. and Mrs. Bill (Frances) Miller of Baylis, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Marjorie Stormer.
Mr. Orr was a 1947 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Ill. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Earl R. Walters Plumbing and Heating and Doyle Pluming and Heating both of Jacksonville, Ill. for 25 years. As a child he attended the old South Prairie Church northwest of Perry, Ill. and was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters and Local #137, the Perry Masonic Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M., and a former member of the Perry American Legion Post.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (October 5, 2000) at the Skinner-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Griggsville, Illinois. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. A public Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday by Perry Masonic Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M.. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery in rural Brown County, Ill. with military rites conducted by the Perry American Legion Post. Memorials may be made to Hebron Cemetery.

Mrs. Mildred Oxley (Cooper)
Mildred Oxley, 96 of Palmyra, died Friday, June 23, 2000, in Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on July 12, 1903 in Goshen Community, rural Palmyra, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Huson Cooper. She married Maurice Spires Oxley on June 29, 1922, at the home of her parents.
She was preceded in death by her husband on November 16, 1984, one son, Harold Spires Oxley, in January 1985, a daughter-in-law, Maxine Stanton Oxley in July 1996, three brothers, Clyde, Oral, and Leonard Cooper, and three great-grandchildren, Cynthia Scroggins, Payton Alan Scroggins, and Katy Jo Oxley.
As a young girl, Mildred joined the Goshen Baptist Church. She graduated from Palmyra High School with the class of 1922. In 1946, she joined the Modesto United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by one son, Gary Cooper (wife Lyla) Oxley, of rural Palmyra, Five grandchildren and their spouses: Jim Oxley of Modesto, Cindy (husband Ed) Scroggins of Normal, Douglas (wife Brenda) Oxley of Modesto, and Brenda (husband Rev. Roger) Grimmett of Quincy. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, two nieces: Joyce Tharp and Janice Ryan and one nephew, Eldon Cooper.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to Silver Strands or Northwestern Rescue Squad

Mrs. Jane Parks (Moore)
Jane Moore Parks, age 77, of Milton, Illinois died early Friday morning (June 2, 2000) at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born April 23, 1923 in Cisco, Texas, daughter of the late Rex Weller and Opal Lynn Dossett Moore.
She married Donald I. Parks on September 13, 1947 in Cisco, Texas and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1966.
Surviving is one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Michael Boren of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, David Parks and wife Judith of Pembroke, Mass.; five grandchildren, Zachary, Braxton, and Spencer Boren all of Pittsfield, Ill., and Andrew and Timothy Parks of Pembroke, Mass..
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mrs. Parks was a graduate of Cisco High School in Cisco, Texas and attended Cisco Junior College and Tarleton College, both in Texas. She was a bookkeeper for the Wayne Feed Mill in Milton, Ill. from 1967 to 1981. She was a member of the Milton Christian Church in Milton, Ill. and a member of the Circle 1 group at the Pittsfield First Christian Church in Pittsfield, Ill.. She was a past member of the Pike County Dance Club and several bridge clubs and, with her husband, provided leadership for the Milton Raise-It 4-H Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, photography and bowling. One of her greatest loves was her grandsons.
Funeral services for Jane Moore Parks were held 2 p.m. Sunday (June 4, 2000) at the Milton Christian Church in Milton, Ill. with Pastor Jerry Edison officiating. Organist was Ann Rine who played a congregational hymn “Does Jesus Care”. Vocalists Shanna Edison and Estelene Hayden sang “Ivory Palaces” and a solo “Come Holy Spirit” was sang by Shanna Edison. Honorary pallbearers were Phil Hoover, Phil Graham, Bob Ockerhausen, and Taylor Steinberg. Pallbearers were Ron Hayden, Jim Graham, Dean Ottwell, Bill Boren, John Kearns, and Mark Boren. Burial was in Smith Cemetery near Milton, Ill.. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Milton Christian Church.

Mrs. Luella Marian Patterson
Luella Marian Edwards Patterson, 83, of Franklin died early Monday morning February 12, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born September 14, 1917 in Franklin the daughter of the late Grover C. and Elsie Lela Tribble Caldwell.
She married Melvin Edwards February 20, 1939. He preceded her in death December 17, 1963. She married M. Eugene Patterson March 22, 1969. He preceded her in death December 3, 1997.
Also preceding her in death was a brother Grover M. “Sprout” Caldwell, step son Richard Patterson (surviving wife Ina Jane Patterson of Rushville) and 2 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Patterson was a 1936 graduate of Franklin High School. She was a Dorm Mother at ISVI, retiring in 1982. She had also worked at Nesco, Bound to Stay Bound, and Capps. She also owned and operated the Woodland Inn Cafe. She cooked for the Waverly and the Franklin schools. She was an accomplished Pianist and Organist for many years and performed at the Park Hotel in Beardstown and the Black hawk in Jacksonville. She was a dedicated member of the Franklin Christian Church.
Survivors include her children Nancy Jo (husband Don) Wood of Franklin, William C. (wife Celia) Edwards of Waverly and Jim M. Edwards of Franklin; one stepson, Robert M. (wife, Jane) Patterson of Rushville. One sister, Betty Lou Roper of Pensacola, Florida and a brother L.N. (wife Gloria) Caldwell of Okeechobee, Florida, 7 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 3 step grandsons 1 step granddaughter, 16 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday February 15, 2001 at the Franklin Christian Church.
Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Wednesday at the church where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Franklin Christian Church, The Franklin Cemetery or to the Waverly Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Ella Mae Patterson (Manning)
Ella Mae Patterson, age 67, of Griggsville, Ill. died early Friday morning (June 2, 2000) at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill..
She was born May 11, 1933 in New Berlin, Ill. daughter of Rollie and Lou Ella Walker Manning.
She married Raymond Patterson II on February 8, 1952 in Lemerick, Maine and he survives.
Also surviving is her mother Lou Ella Manning of Bowling Green , Mo.; five sons, Raymond Patterson III and wife Jill, and Todd Patterson and wife Linda both of Griggsville, Ill., Dana Paul Patterson and wife Rosie of Houston, Texas, Douglas Patterson of Knoxville, Ill., and Dwayne Patterson and wife Rhonda of Pittsfield, Ill.; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Perkins of Sanford, Maine; one brother, Howard Manning of Bowling Green , Mo.; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Patterson was a 30 year resident of Pike County, Ill. who was employed by McCulloch Shell in Griggsville, Ill. as well as Ayerco in Pittsfield, Ill. for many years retiring in 1995. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Meredosia, Ill. who enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, bird watching, and her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday (June 5, 2000) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Garry Potter officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery near Griggsville, Ill.. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Meredosia, Ill. c/o the funeral home.

Mrs. Elden Lura Patterson
Elden Lura Patterson, 78, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Waverly, died at her home in El Paso on Saturday, September 23, 2000. She was born December 12, 1921, in Pangburn, Arkansas, a daughter of William Homer Harding and Jessie Velma Paris Harding Woolfolk. She married Eldon Wayne Patterson on June 23, 1941, in Bowling Green , Missouri, and he preceded her in death in 1976.
Surviving are: one son, Dale (wife Vicky) Patterson of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Vicky Lynn (husband, Roy) Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, Caroll Woolfolk of Scottville; and one sister, Velma Ambrose of Carlinville; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Patterson retired from MCL Cafeteria in Springfield, and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Waverly.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2000 in The First Baptist Church of Waverly with Rev. Brian Hodge officiating. Visitation will be at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, where the family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The First Baptist Church of Waverly.

Mrs. Ruby R. Pence (Dawdy)
Ruby R. Pence, age 73, of rural White Hall, died Monday, Nov. 6,
2000 at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born May 21, 1927 in Patterson, the daughter of Denver and
Donna Claridy Dawdy.
She married Walter “Pip” Pence on March 27, 1943 in Palmyra,
Missouri and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1993.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce A. (husband, Tom) Lindsey
of Liberty, MO; Janis (husband, Ralph) Chapman of White Hall and Jeanne
(husband, Richard) Strubbe of rural Chapin; eight grandchildren; and five
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Nicky
Ray Pollard and two brothers, Murle and Kenneth Dawdy.
Mrs. Pence was a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church,
where she was a member of the Gleaners Class and was very active in the
missions. She was instrumental in implementing the annual Harvest Dinner
at the church. She enjoyed quilting, playing the piano and singing. She
loved being with her children and her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the White Hall
First Baptist Church with burial in the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson.
The family will meet friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday
at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are
suggested to the White Hall First Baptist Church or Living Alternative, A
Crisis Pregnancy Center in Jacksonville.

Kathryn Elizabeth Pevey
Kathryn Elizabeth Pevey, infant daughter of Chad and Rachel Pevey, was stillborn early Wednesday morning, June 14, 2000, at the Carol Jo Vechie Women’s Center at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She is survived by her parents of Jacksonville, identical twin sister Anna Louise Pevey; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Smith of Jacksonville and Mr. and Mrs. William Curry of Philo; and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs Richard Pevey of Jacksonville.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2000 at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bill E. Phillips
Bill E. Phillips, 56, of South Jacksonville died Monday morning, October 9, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born on November 3, 1943 in Mt. Pulaski the son of Walter Earl and Erma Ayers Phillips. He married Rebecca “Becky” Henderson on November 22, 1980 in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by his parents of Mt. Pulaski; four sons, Rick (wife, Nicole) Vaniter of Jacksonville, J.D. (wife, Kathryn) Walter of Moweaqua, Scott Phillips of Portland, Oregon, and Chris (wife, Andrea) Phillips of Peoria; four daughters, Michelle (husband, Robert) Younkers of Green ville, South Carolina, Denise Bartlemay of Bloomington, Anne Trago of Mt. Pulaski, and Maggie Phillips at home; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Danny (wife, Betty) Phillips of Mt. Pulaski and Larry (wife, Sue) Phillips of Escondido, California; and one sister, Mary Ann Phillips Trago of Mt. Pulaski.
Mr. Phillips had been a job superintendent with Illinois Valley Paving since 1980. Prior to that he worked as an engineer for the State of Illinois for 16 years. Mr. Phillips was a member and deacon of First Christian Church in Jacksonville where he served on the Helping Hands Committee. He loved to help people in need and was a “quiet servant” who preferred to work behind the scenes. He enjoyed woodworking.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at the First Christian Church with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after
2 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Christian Church where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a celebration to follow in the church fellowship hall. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Helping Hands Committee. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Verna Ann Pitchford (Dorwart)
Verna Ann Pitchford, 65, of Waverly, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born November 6, 1934 in Waverly, the daughter of Charles Henry and Mary Etta Edmondson Dorwart. She married Harold R. Pitchford January 18, 1953, in Waverly and he survives.
She is also survived by one son: Mark Allen, (wife, Tina) of Jacksonville; one daughter: Pamela Sue (husband, Fred) Lipp of Riverton; three grandchildren; and one brother, Bill (wife, Sharon) Dorwart of Waverly.
Mrs. Pitchford retired after many years as an administrative assistant for the Bureau of Communications of the Illinois State Police. She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 262 of Waverly and the Pythian Sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad.

Mr. Hal Dean Powell
Hal Dean Powell, 70, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, May 26, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born on August 10, 1929 in Hillview the son of John R. and Irene Smothers Powell. He married Joan Patterson on September 4, 1953 in Pocahontas, Arkansas and she survives in Jacksonville.
He is also survived by his mother of White Hall, and three brothers, Lyndell (wife, Kathy) Powell of Champaign, Donald (wife, Charlene) Powell of Derby, Kansas, and Robert (wife, Phyllis) Powell of Dixon.
Mr. Powell worked for the State of Illinois for 33 years, 23 of which were spent at Illinois School for the Deaf, and ten which were spent with the Secretary of State. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Bryant- Thomas American Legion Post in Hillview and the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He enjoyed summers in Canada bird dog training, and winters in Port Aransas, Texas
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at White Hall Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church.

Thomas John "T.J." Quarton
Thomas John “T.J.” Quarton, 15, of Champaign and formerly of Palmyra, died Saturday, October 14, 2000, in Provena Covenant Hospital in Champaign.
He was born on April 13, 1985, in Springfield, the son of Terry Quarton of Palmyra and Kathy Sabo and Mark Reichart of Auburn, and they survive.
He is also survived by one sister, Amy Jo of Auburn; his paternal grandparents, Lester and Fayne Quarton of Palmyra, his maternal grandparents, George and Eilene Kruse of Virden, and Frank and Doris Sabo of Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri; his maternal step-grandparents, Fred and Eileen Reichert of Auburn one great grandmother, Pauline Bailey of Green field; and one step-great-grandmother, Dorothy Burris of Virden. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Jefferson and Amy Josephine Love Quarton and Hershel Pauline Stults Bivin; and maternal grandfather, Everett Lowder.
T.J. was a member of Blooming Grove Christian Church in Palmyra.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 16, at Blooming Grove Christian Church, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. The family will meet friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. Monday until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to Swann Special Care Center in Champaign. The Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Helen Rafferty
Helen Rafferty, 87 of Bement and formerly of Jacksonville died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at Bement Health Care Center in Bement. She was born on August 25, 1912 in rural Jacksonville the daughter of John and Anna Holtzman.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Charles) Norton of Ramsey; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rafferty attended school at Literberry. She had worked at J.Capps and Sons and had also been employed at Klines and Kinney Shoes. Mrs. Capps attended Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2000 at Literberry Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
