MILDRED E. BRICKLE
STERLING - Mildred E. Brickle, 82, formerly of Coleta, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at the Sterling Pavilion.
Mildred was born June 2, 1922 in Franklin Grove, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Seebach) Unger. She married
William Brickle on August 19, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1987. She was a member of the Coleta United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include three daughters, Claudia (Robert) Wasmund of Coleta, Linda (Susan) Case of Gabriola B.C., Melody (Michael) McKenna of Milledgeville; a son, Willliam (Marilyn) Brickle, Jr. of Chabance; a brother, Melvin Unger of Rock Falls; 15 grandchildren, Rita Brickle, Gwen Rubright, Larry Brickle, Terry Brickle, Penny Sadler, Lori Jackson, Rick Helfrich, Wendy Hennessey, Julie (Bob) Woessner, Joanie (Kenyon) Whipple, John Reggie, Anna Carr, Joshua Case, Ty (Barb) McKenna, and Todd McKenna; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Gertrude Reed and a brother, Martin Unger, Jr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday June 25, 2004 at the Coleta United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Polly Klimson officiating. Visitation is from 5-7 PM, Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.

Charles E. Lehman
Lyndon - Charles E. Lehman, 79, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at his home. He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years before retiring as a conductor in 1985.
Mr. Lehman was born July 6, 1924 in Oakwood, MO, Son of Clifford and Neva (Sorrel) Lehman. He graduated from Galesburg High School. He married
Phoebe Bannick on April 29, 1951 in Prophetstown. They lived in Canton until moving to Lyndon in 1990.
During World War II he served 4 years in the US Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS Hornet, USS Cabot, and put into commission the USS Bunker Hill, USS Franklin D. Roosevelt all aircraft carriers. He was a member of VFW Lodge Canton, American Legion, Masonic Lodge #755 in Galesburg, Local 95 UTV, and the Lyndon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Phoebe; two sons, Dennis (Judy) Lehman of Prophetstown and Raymond (Janice) Lehman of Sterling, IL; five grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son Gary; a grandson Arnie; and one sister.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with the Reverend Wesley Dickson, pastor of Lyndon United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Lyndon cemetery, with full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

Arthur H. Koster
STERLING - Arthur H. Koster, 83, of Sterling died Saturday June 5, 2004, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
He farmed West of Sterling for many years, and was a member of St.Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling.
Mr. Koster was born December 30, 1920 in Sterling, the son of Herbert and Anna (Wessels) Koster. He married
Dorothy Sloot on March 2, 1956 in Morrison. He enjoyed farming.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; two sons Steve(Donna) of Sterling; Roger (Linda) of Decatur; one daughter Christine (Jay) Severson of Rochester MN; one sister Helen VonHolten of Toulon; Five grandchildren
Preceeding him in death one Brother in infancy, and a stepmother Frieda Koster.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sterling, with the Reverend Philip Gronbach officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

Doris M. Hammett
Doris M. Hammett, 88, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004 surrounded by family and friends. She was chief switchboard operator for Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. until she retired.
Doris was born December 15, 1915 in Lockridge, IA, the daughter of James and Mary (McElwee) Helfenstein. She worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. during WW II. She married
Harlan Hammett on September 12, 1950 in Clinton, IA. She served for over 30 years on the Self Help Board of Directors in the offices of President, Vice President and Secretary. She was one of the original founders of the Crangle Foundation in 1987. A group home for the developmentally disabled was named after her, Hammett House, at 1845 First Avenue. She was a partner in the Black Sheep and past International President of the Pilot Club.
Doris was a visionary. She had the will to do and the soul to dare. She always had a hand to give that made a difference. She had faith in people and always saw the good. She was a woman of faith and belonged to the First United Methodist Church Women and was Administrator and Board Chairman of the First Untied Methodist Church.
Doris was the potato salad maker for Moonlight Bay Marina and Restaurant and enjoyed knitting and playing cards.
Doris was wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and volunteer.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan; a daughter, Harlene Hammett of Sterling; a brother, Burt (Henrietta) Helfenstein of Peoria, AZ; two grandsons, Mathew Bostelman, B.J. (Grace) Bostelman, both of Sterling; a great-grandson, Brady Bostelman; and a nephew, Randy Keller.
A daughter, Pam Bostelman preceded her in death on January 25, 2004.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Sterling, with the Reverend Christine Gilbert pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home.

MOTHER ANNIE BELL GARRETT
On Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 9:18 A.M. Heavenly Gate opened and Mother Annie Bell Wheeler Garrett entered.
Mother Garrett was born August 24, 1923 to Jessie and Minnie (Nores) Wheeler at Blackhawk, Mississippi. She married
Alonzo Garrett on September 9, 1946 in Webb, Miss. He preceded her in death October 28, 1984. They were the parents of seven children; one son, Forchin (Bernice) Garrett; daughters, Minnie (Clarence) Walker, Ella (James) Phillip, Catherine (Robert) Gibson, Lonnie Chattic, Emma (Hubert) Harden, Mattie Garrett.
Mother Garrett was chosen by God on August 24, 1960 and ordained by Pastor Jesse Wheeler (father) in 1962. She became one of the first women ministers in Mississippi. In 1976, God gave her the vision to build the Temple. She founded and pastored Friendship Temple of Jesus Christ in Webb, Miss. The seed church is Friendship Temple of Jesus Christ in Sterling.
She was recognized for her works in the community. A road was named after her for achievements in the community in Webb, Miss.
Survivors include her seven children; 28 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her father, Jesse Wheeler, mother, Minnie Wheeler, brother Jesse Wheeler, sisters, Willie Lee Fisher and Annie Lee Bradford.
Homegoing celebration will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Friendship Temple of Jesus Christ, 902 Oak Avenue, Sterling. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.
GLADYS J. WARD
STERLING - Gladys J. Ward, 74, died Sunday, September 26, 2004 at Coventry Village. She was a High School Science Teacher for 30 years, principal of Tampico High School, and owned and operated the Frame Shop in Sterling for many years where she also taught art classes.
Gladys was born in Sterling on May 12, 1930, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Ryerson) Ward. She was a member of the D.A.R., O.E.S., I.S.E.A., Rock River Carvers and the Mayflower Society.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Rock of Sterling; three nieces, Sandra (John) Lewandowski of Indianapolis, Beth (Anthony) Fiorini of Rock Falls, Julie (Denny) Zink of Sterling; one sister-in-law, Betty Ward of Rock Falls; and several great nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Milton Ward and one niece Ellen Ward.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Oak Knoll Memorial Park with Reverend Roger Carlson, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.

TWILA R. BEHRENS
GALESBURG - Twila R. Behrens, 87, formerly of Sterling, died Friday, September 24, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, after an extended illness.
Twila Behrens was born October 5, 1916 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Mensch) Shaw. She married
Mason E. Behrens on May 16, 1943 in Sterling and assisted him for many years with Behrens Mortuary. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2000. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling and Church Circle. She enjoyed family and church friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Joy Behrens of Galesburg, IL; and one son, David Behrens of Prescott, AZ; three granddaughters, ten great grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Metzger and Ada Gantzert and one grandson, Jerry Lee Behrens.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Oehlert, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
NELLIE MAE SINGSHEIM
GOLDEN, CO - Nellie Mae Singsheim, 88, formerly of Sterling, died Monday, September 20, 2004. She was formerly a cook at Prince Castle and Hardees.
Nellie was born May 30, 1916 in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Robert Noah and Edith Pearl (Barker) Hay. She married
John C. Singsheim on March 29, 1935 in Huron, SD. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1990. She was a former member of the Free Methodist Church of Sterling and attended Golden Nazarene Church in Golden, CO.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Richard) Bruder of Golden, CO; a son, David (Lori) Singsheim of Morrison, CO; two step-sisters, Dorothy Ann Hay, Judy (George) Huff of Rock Falls; a step-brother, Ron (Illa) Hay of Rock Falls; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Donald Jamison officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home.

HAZEL B. PEUGH
Hazel B. Peugh, 85, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at KSB Hospital.
Mrs. Peugh was born October 24, 1918 in Morrison, the daughter of Levi and Katherine (Rohde) Fletchic. She married
Ralph Peugh on February 19, 1938 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1963. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a 50-year member of the Whiteside County Home Extension, a 4H Leader with the Jordan Super Sallies, and a pink lady at CGH Medical Center.
Survivors include, one son Raymond (Donna) Peugh of Polo; two daughters Nancy Cox of Kissimmee, FL, Connie Ricklefs of Sterling; two half-sisters, Helen Harms of Dixon, Lucille Noack of Moline; two granddaughters, Debra (Mark) McComb of Valrico, FL Michelle (Scott) LaRoche of Port St. Lucie, FL and three great-grandsons, Nathaniel McComb, Craig Jackson and Scotty LaRoche.
Preceding her in death were one sister, Evelyn Linder; two brothers, Charles Fletchic, LeRoy Fletchic; and one half-brother, Lloyd Henson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 24, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sterling, with Reverend Philip Gronbach, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
KEITH M. ANDERSON
STERLING - Keith M. Anderson, 56, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at his home surrounded by family following an extended illness. He was employed at National Mfg. as a Maintenance Supervisor prior to his retirement in 2002.
Keith was born September 8, 1948 in Sterling to Everett F. “Andy” and Barbara (Pollock) Anderson. He was a 1966 graduate of Sterling High School. He married
Karla Speer on September 19, 1984 in Sterling. He served in the US Army from April, 1968 to January, 1970 and was a Vietnam veteran. He loved classic cars and was an avid collector of gas station memorabilia. He was a very proud grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Karla; two daughters, Keelie (Marty Pugliese) Anderson of Plainfield, Athena (Eric) Kolodzik of Montgomery; two sons, Dustin (Shelly Clumpner) Stone of Bloomington, Brandon (Sophal Chan) Stone of Elgin; his parents, Everett and Barbara Anderson of Sterling; two sisters, Karen (Jim) Port, Connie Stewart, both of Sterling; four brothers, Bradley (JoAnn) Anderson of Torrington, WY, Kevin (Lori) Anderson of Grand Detour, Gary Anderson and Cary (Wendy) Anderson, both of Sterling; one granddaughter, Kora Kolodzik and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Betty (Peterson) Anderson, formerly of Sterling, and maternal grandparents, Darhal and Effie (Thome) Pollock, formerly of Rock Falls.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park with full military graveside services. Visitation is Friday, September 17, 2004 from 4-8 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home.
