Frances K. Wenger

Sterling - Frances K. Wenger, 92, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Coventry Village.

Frances was born May 11, 1912 in Chicago, the daughter of Richard L. and Edna (Krieder) Kannaly. She graduated in 1937 from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. She married Philip Schuester May 22, 1969. He preceded her in death June 12, 1982. She married John E. Wenger October 13, 1989 in Sterling. He preceded her in death November 25, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kannaly.

She was a Supervisor for 33 years for Illinois Bell Telephone in Chicago.

Survivors include two cousins, Janet Nieman and Ruth (Joseph) Conneely, both of Sterling and two nieces, Katherine (Dennis) Thornton and Kimberly (Jack) Liddell, both of Florida.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Paul White of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM, Thursday, February 24th at the church. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Forrest "Frosty" Anderson

Sterling - Forrest F. Anderson, 89, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was employed at the former Frantz Overhead Door Manufacturing until j\his retirement in 1981.

Forrest was born August 23, 1915 in Alta, IA, the son of Carl G. and Ingrid (Melin) Anderson. He married Marie J. Anderson June 21, 1947 in Mt. Carroll. She preceded him in death on September 17, 1999. He served in the US Army during WW II., for three years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kiwannis, and enjoyed woodworking and clocks.

Survivors are a son, Neil L. Anderson of Malta, a daughter, Denise (Al) Norman of Sterling, three brothers, John H. Anderson of Madison, SD, Kenneth (Joan) Anderson of Cherokee, IA, Wilbur Anderson of WA, a sister, Dorothy Davidson of Madison, WI, and two granddaughters, Jill Norman, of Iowa City and Carrie (Jeff) Zuithoff of Milwaukee, WI.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Julia Anderson and Lila Johnsand two brothers, Herbert and Nels Anderson.

Services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, February 21, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Sunday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

A memorial has been established.

Viola E. Frommelt

Sterling - Viola E. Frommelt, 105, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Coventry Village.

Mrs. Frommelt was born September 24, 1899 in Waumandee, WS, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Liebenberg) Beck. She married Arthur E. Frommelt on December 15, 1923 in Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1967.

Survivors include one son, Arthur Frommelt of Sterling; two grandchildren Dan C. Frommelt of Sterling and David C. (Vicky) Frommelt of Tremont; and one great-grandchild Derek Frommelt of Tremont

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2005, with the Reverend Tony Hawkins, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, Illinois. There will be no visitation. Services were conducted by the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

Mahlon M. Miller

Sterling - Mahlon M. Miller, 87, passed away Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Sterling Pavilion. He taught school in Iowa, then came to Sterling and taught at Central School until retiring in 1979. He worked at WSDR as the senior reporter until retiring due to illness.

Mahlon was born December 1, 1917 in Bloomfield, IA, the son of Jeremiah and Magdalena (Wagler) Miller. He served a short time in the US Air Force during WWII. He married Nina Wiens June 6, 1965 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sterling. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rock River Masonic Lodge #612, Moose Lodge #726, Rockford Shriners and Sterling Rock Falls Elks Lodge #1218. He loved playing Santa Claus at Christmas and fishing at Lake Tomahawk in Wisconsin.

Survivors are his wife; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Carol Sisson; sister-in-law, Jean Wiens; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 17, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Philip Gronbach of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, Illinois. Visitation will be 6-8, Wednesday, February 16th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

A memorial has been established.

Mary L. Zimmerman

Sterling - Mary L. Zimmerman, 81, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. She was employed as a secretary for Mott Brothers Company until she retired.

Mary was born May 23, 1923 in Princeton, the daughter of John and Florence (Bass) Rambo. She married Charles Everett Zimmerman on December 1, 1943 in Olympia, WA.

Survivors are her husband, a daughter, Karen (Mike) Maguire of Livermore, CA; two sons, David (Maribeth) Zimmerman of Rock Falls, Kenneth (Candy) Zimmerman of Everett, WA; a brother, John (Peggy) Rambo of Hillsboro; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Kremer.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Berean Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Carlson of Berean Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Wednesday, February 16th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

A memorial has been established.

Wallace D. Ahlstrand

Sterling - Wallace D. Ahlstrand, 73, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He was employed for Aramark Services until his retirement in 1996. He was the owner/operator of the Ahlstrand’s Corner Tap in Rock Falls.

Wallace was born December 4, 1931 in Herrick, SD, the son of Ivan and Elizabeth (Schlaht) Ahlstrand. He married Donna Harris on October 4, 1952 in Moline, IL. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sterling and the Rock Falls Kiwanis Club. He was an avid baseball and NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his parents, his wife, Donna, a son, Dean Ahlstrand of Rock Falls, two daughters, Crystal (Richard) Brown of Kansas City, MO, Valerie (Phillip) Todd of Sterling, a sister, Judith (George) Munger of Peoria, IL, and nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, and Jayme Todd, Brandon and Nicole Brown, CoDaniel, Erika, Morgan and Paige Ahlstrand.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Glenn Mensing of First Congregational Church UCC officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, Illinois. Visitation will be 4-8, Sunday, February 13th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

Brenda A. Wilson

STERLING-Brenda Allene Wilson, 63 of Sterling, passed away Feb. 9th 2005 at her home. She was a registered nurse, property manager and homemaker.

Mrs. Wilson was born July 23rd 1941, in Sterling, the daughter of Glenn and Irene Compton. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1959 and from KSB School of Nursing three years later. She married Donald R. Wilson in 1963, her husband of 41 years. Together they own the Sterling Manor Apartments and various other properties. Brenda was also active in the First Congregational Church of Sterling, as well as the Illinois Chapter of Church Women United. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and eight grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Wilson; four children, Michael (Darcy) Wilson of Roscoe, IL, Michele (John) Puetz of Leawood KS, Craig (Beth) Wilson of Sterling, and Christopher Wilson of Yorkville, IL; eight grandchildren, Jakob and Abbey Wilson, John Andrew, Chloe and Joseph Puetz, Brooke and Emma Wilson, and Avarie Morgan Wilson; two brothers Gene and Greg Compton of Joppa, MD and a sister Susan (Compton) Hunt of Topeka, KS.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy A. Wilson in infancy.

The funeral is at noon Saturday at First Congregational Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Glenn Mensing officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

A Memorial has been established to the First Congregational Church of Sterling.

JANE GASKILL FLUCK

STERLING - Jane Gaskill Fluck, 94, of Sterling died Friday, January 14, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. She was employed as a Representative for Illinois Bell and the New York Telephone Company prior to her retirement in 1954.

Jane was born June 30, 1910 in Ohio, IL, the daughter of Harry and Laura (Smith) Gaskill. She married Frank Fluck on October 12, 1932 in Dixon. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1996. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sterling. She enjoyed playing bridge.

Surviving is a sister, Evelyn Gaskill Hawkins of Mesa, AZ; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Sue Ely and the Papoccia Family.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Lucille Gaskill Smith and four brothers, Glenn, Leslie, Marion and Dale Gaskill.

According to Jane’s wishes there will be no funeral services or visitation.

A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church, Sterling.

Dorothy Lorene Woodyatt

Dorothy Lorene Woodyatt, 58, of Dixon, slipped away peacefully Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Midwestern Memorial Medical Center in Zion after a two-year battle with cancer. She was employed at Farm & Fleet in Sterling for 20 years.

Dorothy was born August 12, 1946 in San Bernadino, CA, the daughter of Luther and Corine (Botts) Lockwood. She married former husband Donald Woodyatt on December 28, 1963. In 1966, she moved to Sterling where she raised her three children. She attended Sauk Valley Community College. She was an active member of Amazing Grace Church in Sterling. She was a loving mother and grandmother who willingly and unselfishly gave of herself to the very end and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include two daughters, Michele (Jimmy) Espinosa, Lisa (Hank) Gibson, both of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Michael Woodyatt of Loves Park; two grandsons; and a sister, Carol (Zenus) Stuck of San Bernadino, CA.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 13, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Glenn Mensing, interim pastor of the First Congregational Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 AM at the Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

IRENE M. ADAMS

STERLING - Irene M. Adams, 92, of Sterling, died January 4, 2005, after a short illness, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home.

Irene was born July 25, 1912 to Ernest and Maryann Baker in Somersetshire, England. She attended Morrision Community High School and graduated from Brown Business College. She was united in marriage to Paul E. Adams, February 21, 1936 in Morrison. Together, they owned and operated Sterling Cleaners until 1964 when they relocated to Sanibel Island, Florida. They owned a clothing store there until they retired in 1990.

Irene was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Sterling and a lifelong member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was an avid bowler, and was one of the founders of Youth Bowling in the Sterling-Rock Falls community. She was inducted into the Sterling-Rock Falls Bowling Hall of Fame. One of her greatest enjoyments was watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls on television. She also enjoyed playing bingo, watching golf, and spending her summers at their cabin in Canada where she enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son, Ronald (Kay) Adams; two daughters, Mary Lou (Harold) Van Drew, Patrice (Dennis) Redfield, all of Sterling; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Paul, and five grandchildren, Kathleen Adams, Shellie Van Drew, Jeremiah Van Drew, Rae Anne Redfield, Mark Hopkins and four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Sacred Heart Church, Sterling, with Reverend Paul White, officiating. Burial is at Calvary cemetery, Sterling.

Visitation is from 5-8 PM, Monday, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Rock River Valley or a charity of the donor’s choice.
