LUCILLE N. HOOVER
ROCK FALLS - Lucille N. Hoover, 92, formerly of Kewanee, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at CGH Medical Center.
Mrs. Hoover was born July 12, 1913 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Florence (Budeck) Anderson and later adopted by Aaron (Ella) Wittenauer. She married
Robert A. Hoover April of 1936 in Clinton, IA. He died January 3, 1971.
Survivors are two daughters, Donna Marie Ruth of Sterling, Delores (Pepe) Hurtado of Springfield WI; a son, Daryl (Kay) Hoover of Wyoming, IL; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Daniel Behmlander of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 PM at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Kewanee. There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
DOROTHY E. HARRIS
ROCKFORD - Dorothy E. Harris, 87, died Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford.
Dorothy was born April 6, 1918 in Ramsey, the daughter of Lee and Eva (Miller) Hill. She married
Woodrow Harris June 3, 1938 in Ramsey. He died April 30, 2000.
Survivors are two daughters, Carol (Kenneth) Fischer of Rockford, Donna (Larry) Lenhart of Lake Carroll; one son, Phillip (Mona) Harris of Rockford; eight grandchildren, Jodi (Terry) Heden, Theresa (Matt) Fischer, Mark (Teri) Fischer, Patricia (Wade) Woodward, Lori (Clark) Carroll, Douglas (Julie) Lenhart, Philip (Dana) Harris, Steven (Jennita) Harris; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, one half-sister, and one half-brother.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Kathleen Burkheimer of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Jordan, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10-11, Wednesday, December 7 at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Jordan.
RUSSELL ELMER PEUGH
STERLING - Russell Elmer Peugh, 90, of Genessee Twp. died Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in his home. He was a life long farmer on the family homestead.
Mr. Peugh was born December 31, 1914, the son of Herman and Anna Deets Peugh. He married
Mary Helen Kelsey August 20, 1946 in Iowa Falls, IA. She died November 26, 2005. He and his brother Rex were the fourth generation to own and operate the family farms in Genesee Twp. Russell had been a board member at the First United Methodist Church and Whiteside County Farm Bureau for a number of years. He served on several area school boards from 1955-1985 including, Washington School, Genessee Twp. Schools, Coleta School and Sterling Unit 5.
Survivors are four sons, Wayne (Edith) Peugh of Dunlap, Keith (Kathy) Peugh, Merle (Karen) Peugh, both of Sterling, Lloyd (Dorothy Humphrey) Peugh of Littleton, CO, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother Rex (Betty) Peugh and one sister Helen Mitchell both of Sterling.
Services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, December 3, 2005 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Christine Gilbert, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Peugh cemetery, Coleta. Visitation will be 4:30-6 P.M., Friday, December 2nd at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, and from 10:30-11:30 A.M., Saturday, at the church.
A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.
MARY HELEN PEUGH
STERLING - Mary Helen Peugh, 88, of Genesee Township, died Saturday, November 26, 2005. She was an elementary school teacher in Dixon, Coleta and Sterling schools for over twenty-five years.
Mary Helen was born December 23, 1916 in Iowa Falls, IA the daughter of Maxwell and Edna (Kratz) Kelsey. She married
Russell Peugh on August 20, 1946 in Iowa Falls.
Survivors include her husband, Russell; four sons, Wayne (Edith) Peugh of Dunlap, Keith (Kathy) Peugh and Merle (Karen) Peugh, both of Sterling, Lloyd (Dorothy Humphrey) Peugh of Littleton, CO; one sister, Alice Moore of Littleton, CO; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Brown, Kate Clark, Jane Boelts; and one brother, Robert Kelsey.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Christine Gilbert officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 – 6PM Monday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at Peugh cemetery, Coleta.

EVELYNE M. MCFALLS
STERLING - Evelyne M. McFalls, 81, of Rock Falls died, Friday, November 25, 2005 at CGH Medical Center.
Evelyne was born April 14, 1924 in MN. The daughter of Shelby and Etta (Underkoffler) Kested. She was a graduate of Dixon High School. She married
Chester McFalls on January 9, 1942. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally Schumaker of Rock Falls and Sheila Anderson of Trumbull, CT; two granddaughters, Lisa (Jayme) Armstrong of Rock Falls and Cheri (Chris) Capalbo of Holden, MA; two grandsons, Brian Schumaker of Rock Falls and Jim Anderson of Milford, CT; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson two sisters, Donna Jacobs of Dixon and Eleanor (John) Schmitt of Thomson; one brother, Everett (Margaret) Kested of Mt. Morris and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Schumaker; one sister, Pauline Pettenger and three brothers, Laverne, Charles, and Harold Kested.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday, November 28, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with the Reverend Larry Thomson, pastor Rock Falls United Methodist, officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Coloma Township cemetery
GERALDINE “GERI” ETHEL BURKETT
STERLING - Geraldine “Geri” Ethel Burkett, 87, of Sterling died, Monday, November 21, 2005 at CGH Medical Center.
Geraldine was born January 4, 1918 in Chicago, the daughter of Lloyd and Lorena (Defenbaugh) Gribbin. She married
Ervin Burkett on February 10, 1938 in Marseilles. She liked to paint and play the piano.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Brian Burkett of Sterling; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Burkett and Barbara Marinangeli; and two brothers.
Graveside services will be 11 AM, Friday, November 25, 2005 at Oakwood cemetery in Ottawa. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were completed by Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

VELLA MAE FADDEN
STERLING - Vella Mae Fadden, 94, of Sterling, died Sunday, November 20, 2005. Ms. Fadden was a librarian at the Sterling High School until her retirement in 1973.
Vella Mae Fadden was born April 22, 1911 in Rock Island, the daughter of Everett and Jennie (Maberry) Fadden. She began her college education at Northern Illinois University at DeKalb and received her Bachelor’s Degree at Macomb. Vella received her Master’s Degree from University of Michigan. She was a member of Wesly United Methodist Church, P.E.O. and Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sisters, Harriett (Ed) Stuart of Morrison and Audrey Fadden of Elden, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday. Burial will be in Lyndon cemetery.

James “Clovis” Ratliff
Milledgeville - James “ Clovis” Ratliff, 80, of Milledgeville, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was owner and operator of Ratliff Roofing for over 50 years.
Clovis was born January 12, 1925 in Sheridan, AR, the son of John Edgar and Allie (Greenlee) Ratliff. He married
Huetta Wood on May 5, 1945 in Jonesboro AR.
Survivors include his wife; two sons Larry Ratliff of Houston TX, and Terry W. (Marcia) Ratliff of Sterling; a daughter Beverly (Marion) Zemke of Milledgeville; four grandchildren Jeri Zemke, Michael Zemke, Jason Ratliff and Traci Ratliff.
He was preceded in death by a brother Hollis Ratliff.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday November 21, 2005 at Community Baptist Church, Milledgeville, with the Rev. Kregg Farmer officiating. Burial is at Bethel cemetery, Milledgeville. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church, Milledgeville.

HELEN MARIE HELMS
Sterling - Helen Marie Helms, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Coventry Village.
Mrs. Helms was born January 11, 1922 in Bloomfield, IA, the daughter of Everett and Minnie (Pitcher) Wilkinson. She married
Russell Clyde Helms December 6, 1945 in the West Jordan Parsonage, Sterling. He died April 21, 2003.
Survivors are one daughter, Judith (Steven) Shipman of Sterling; a son, Kenneth Helms of Leavenworth, KS; three grandchildren, and six great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend John M. Leaf, interim pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 10-11, Saturday, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

JOHN W. SCHMITT
John W. Schmitt, 83, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at CGH Medical Center.
He was born on June 11, 1922 in Sterling, the son of John and Iva (Bogott) Schmitt. He served in the United States Air Corp, the 417th Night Fighter Squadron during World II from 1942-1945. He married
his high school sweetheart, Marie A. Vogel in 1943. They were married
for 59 years and had five children.
He started Lee Wayne Company, a specialty advertising company in 1952 in Tampico. He built the company to a leading advertising institution with salespeople across the continental United States and Alaska until he sold the company in 1989. He then put his interest in real estate in Sterling, formed another company Schmitt Partners L.P., which specializes in commercial and residential leasing.
John was a member of several business organizations, President of the YMCA, served on the board of directors of Specialty Advertising Association International, and PTA President at Woodlawn School. He was a leading business man, dedicated husband, loving father, generous benefactor, and a mentor to many people. He loved to garden, ride his John Deere tractor, read history and especially about World War II and air planes. He loved practical jokes and anyone who took the initiative to work hard. He was well respected in the community and will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his four children, Terri Schmitt (Joe) Jones of Sterling, Tim (Randi) Schmitt of Scottsdale, AZ, Pam (Jim) McCorkle of Onalaska, WI and Mary “Missy” (Fred) Rangel of Sterling; two sisters, Shirley (John) Lawrence of Sterling and June (Roland) Waters of Arlington Heights; nine grandchildren, John David (Brenda) Moore, Jeff Moore, Freddie Rangel, Nicole Rangel all from Sterling, Lezlie Schmitt of Scottsdale, AZ, Jamie (Blake) Wilson of Knoxville, TN, Timothy Schmitt Jr. of Nashville, TN, Mickey (Mandy) Schmitt of Lexington, VA, and Matt McCorkle of Onalaska, WI; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his daughter Paula Sue, his parents Iva (Bogott) and John Schmitt, his brother Robert Schmitt, and his sister Evelyn Schmitt Bickford.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, Nov 14, 2005 at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Mennonite Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion following the graveside service.
