VERNON C. SHIPMAN
VERNON C. SHIPMAN, 83, of 308 East 7th Street died Saturday evening, November 16, 2002 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. Mr. Shipman was owner of V. Shipman Heating in Rock Falls from 1945 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Rock Falls. Mr. Shipman was born July 14, 1919 in Fremont, the son of Lloyd and Gertrude Beck Shipman. He married
Helen McConnell in 1948 and she preceded him in death in 1977. In 1979, he married
Ina L. Apple in Rock Falls. Vernon was a Half-Track Driver in the U.S.Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star. After World War II, he was enlisted in the Air Force Reserve. He is survived by his wife, Ina; five daughters, Linda Lou Shipman of Decatur, Linda Sue (Kenneth) Ebright of Dayton, OH, Rosemary (Chris) Stark of Des Moines, IA, Sally (Marc) Perkowitz and Kitty Shipman both of Arlington Heights; one sister, Lucille McNinch of Rock Falls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by five brothers.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at the First Christian Church in Rock Falls with Reverend April McClure officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday evening, November 19, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home.

CHARLES TERRY ROBINSON
STERLING - Charles Terry Robinson, 66, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 in a tragic automobile accident claiming the lives also of his wife, Barbara J. Robinson and mother Helen A. Thorup.
Charles T. Robinson was born July 24, 1936 in Harvard, the son of Charles F.W. and Helen (Andrew) Robinson. He married
Barbara Conley on March 2, 1956 in Harvard.
As a very determined young man, Mr. Robinson started his career as a Draftsman at Woodstock Die Casting, later moving to Rockford and employed at National Lock as a Die Designer. In 1969 he moved his family to Sterling where he was a partner and became President of Micro Industries in 1993. He was a member of numerous industry associations including the National Association of Die Casters, several civic organizations, as well as member and past-President of the Rock River Country Club.
He was a nature buff and enjoyed golf, tennis, boating, and was an avid car enthusiast which included racing and building cars.
Chuck was a wonderful father, a fantastic brother, a loving and generous grandfather survived by one son, Lance (Gina) Robinson of Sterling; one daughter, Gail (Kyle) Lawrence of Sweetwater, TX; one sister, Gloria Anderson of Sterling; seven grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Nickolas Robinson, Kaitlin Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, Elise Lawrence, Mark Lawrence and Michael Lawrence. He was also preceded in death by one son Mark and one daughter Susan in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3 PM, Saturday at the Mount Auburn cemetery in Harvard. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Funeral Home.

BARBARA J. ROBINSON
STERLING - Barbara J. Robinson, 64, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 in a tragic automobile accident also claiming the lives of her husband Charles Terry Robinson and mother-in-law, Helen A. Thorup.
Barbara J. Robinson was born May 6, 1938 in Chicago, the daughter of Robert and Florence Strain Conley. She married
Charles T. Robinson on March 2, 1956 in Harvard, IL.
Mrs. Robinson was owner and manager of Courtyard Apartments in Sterling for 30 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling. She also was a member of Rock River Country Club. Barbara enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, cycling, scuba diving, skiing, and travel. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them all her loves and hobbies. Barb was a volunteer, officer, and a member of many service organizations including the American Cancer Society and Whiteside County Republican Women's Club, as well as bowling, golf, tennis, and swimming associations. She also served as a Pink Lady at CGH Medical Center.
A mother who was loved, a sister who was cherished, and a playful Nana who will be missed by her survivors which include one son, Lance (Gina) Robinson of Sterling; one daughter, Gail (Kyle) Lawrence of Sweetwater, TX; one sister, Marilyn (Joseph) Stepon of LeClaire, IA; seven grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Nickolas Robinson, Kaitlin Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, Elise Lawrence, Mark Lawrence and Michael Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by one son, Mark and one daughter Susan in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Snider officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 PM, Saturday at Mt. Auburn cemetery in Harvard, IL.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home.

HELEN A. (ROBINSON) THORUP
STERLING - Helen A. Thorup, 87, of 710 West LeFevre, formerly of Cherokee Village, AR died Sunday, November 24, 2002, in a tragic automobile accident which also claimed the lives of her son, Charles Terry Robinson and daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Robinson.
Mrs. Thorup was born October 15, 1915 in Harvard, IL the daughter of George and May (Dixon) Andrew. She married
Charles F.W. Robinson in 1934. He died in 1977. She later married
Victor Thorup. He died in 1990. She was employed as a grocery store clerk at the A&P Store in Harvard.
She was a member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church and the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution). She was an avid Square Dancer and golfer.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Anderson of Sterling; one stepdaughter, Marge Rogers of Cherokee Village, AR; five grandchildren, Lance Robinson, Gail Lawrence, Michelle Benish, Paulette Heney, Tamara Boyd; fourteen great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Joseph Snider, Pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, at the Mount Auburn cemetery in Harvard, IL. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
GERTRUDE L. KOSIER
STERLING - Gertrude L. Kosier, 86, died Monday, December 2, 2002 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Mrs. Kosier was born December 29, 1915 in Genoa, NE, the daughter of Jabez E. and Rebecca (Swanson) Paulson. She married
Kenneth L. Kosier on June 21, 1936 in Omaha, NE. He died January 13, 2001. She was a devoted mother and wife and served her community in many capacities. She did extensive volunteer work for the American Red Cross, the Christian Thrift Shop, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling where she was a past president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth P. Kosier, Verona, WI; two daughters, Jeanette M. Kosier of Peoria, Jo Ann Simpson, Ames, IA; two grandsons, one grandaughter, and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 6, 2002 at the First Christian Church of Sterling with the Reverend Jack Koehler, Pastor, and Reverend Sigurd Bjorklund officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home.

MARIE A. LANDIS
Marie A. Landis, 88, of 3112 Freeport Road, Sterling, died Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison.
Mrs. Landis was born September 1, 1914 in Sterling, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Schumacher) Braitsch. She married
Lloyd A. Landis on June 19, 1935 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2002. She was employed in the hosiery department of Chester’s Department Store in downtown Sterling and later as a dental assistant for Dr. Lee Behrens. Before her retirement, she was a pharmacy technician for 15 years at the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic Pharmacy. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of Edith Eykamp Circle, Sweet Adelines, and the Whiteside County Home Extension. She was an avid collector of violets. She and her husband belonged to the Corn Items Collectors’ Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth (Willard) Stanley of Sterling, Ann (Bill Adams) Reed of Morrison; four grandchildren, Brian (Diane) Reed of Sterling, Mark (Ann) Reed of Sycamore, Greg (Michelle) Stanley of Greer, SC, Gary Stanley of Sterling; five great grandchildren, Brandon and Nathan Reed of Sterling, Michael and Joshua Reed of Sycamore, and Candice Stanley of Greer, SC; two nieces and one nephew.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister Betty Boehm.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with the Reverend Herbert Reed, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Monday at the Funeral Home.

MARJORIE B. WALTERS
Marjorie B. Walters, 95, died Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the Sterling Pavilion. She was employed by National Mfg. Company until she retired in 1972.
Mrs. Walters was born May 23, 1907 in Rock Falls, the daughter of Van Fleet and Mable (Blean) Boze. She married
Lester Dillow in 1934. He died in 1937. She later married
Arthur W. Walters in 1947 in Morrison. He preceded her in death in 1992. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rock Falls and the Rock Falls Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing cards and knitting.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn (James) Robinson of Rock Falls; one son, James (Marilyn) Dillow of Dixon; one brother, Lynn (Fran) Boze of Hot Springs, AR; one sister-in-law, Sarah Boze of Rock Falls; six grandchildren: ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
Also preceding her were three sisters, one brother, and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Thursday, December 12, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Madeline Edwards, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Rock Falls, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the Needy Children’s Christmas Fund.
NORMAN E. ROTH
ROCK FALLS - Norman E. Roth, 85, of Rock Falls died Friday, December 13, 2002 at CGH Medical Center. He was employed by RB & W in Rock Falls prior to farming in the rural Tampico and Nelson area. He retired from General Electric in Morrison in 1981.
Mr. Roth was born June 10, 1917 in Chicago, the son of Max and Minnie (Petersen) Roth. He married
Ellen M. Young on May 27, 1938 in Chicago. He served as a Sgt. in the US Army at the Atomic Bomb Project in Los Alamos, NM during WW II. He was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church for over 40 years and a member of Rock Falls American Legion Post #902.
Survivors include a son, Jerold (Karen) Roth of Medina, OH; two daughters, Sharon (David) Siex of Sterling, Susan (Richard) Jacobs of Freeport; two brothers, George (Lucy) Roth of Tavares, FL, Dr. Ted (Peggy) Roth of Longview, WA; a sister, Mildred Smola of Chicago; nine grandchildren, Janine Scandlon, Angela Arthur, Andrea Riley, Jeffrey Roth, Jonathan Roth, Curtis Siex, Jill Siex, Melissa Jacobs, Bradley Jacobs; and five great grandchildren, Caryn Scandlon, Kent Scandlon, Will Arthur, Weslea Arthur, Wyatt Arthur and Abbie Siex.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen on March 26, 2000 and one sister, Gertrude Krol.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Monday at the Funeral Home.

FLORENCE B. JOHNSON
The Lord took the hand of Florence B. Johnson, 86, to her new home on Saturday, December 14, 2002.
Florence B. Johnson was born January 18, 1916 in Sterling, the daughter of J. Shirley and Bertha Talmadge Funk She married
LeRoy B. Johnson in Sterling on May 25, 1935.
Mrs. Johnson was Secretary-Treasurer of Don Mullery Ford in Dixon for 15 years retiring in 1980. She was a life long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, an active member of the Woman’s Social Circle of the church and Northern Illinois Credit Womens. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and bowling.
She is survived by her husband LeRoy B.; a son, Duane (Patricia) Johnson of Plainfield: three sisters Vera Carter of Sterling, Dorothy (Robert) Marsh of Rock Falls and Alice Diehl of Rock Falls; five grandchildren including Diane (Lonnie) Fisher of Oswego, Kelly (Ben) Minow of Hoffman Estates, Timothy (Helen) Chupp of Valparaiso, IN Ronald (Lisa) Chupp of Gadsden, AL and Darryn Chupp of Schaumburg; eight great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews;
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday December 17, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Herbert Reed officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery in Sterling.
