MERVIN JAMES ZEIGLER, SR.
Sterling, IL - Mervin James Zeigler, Sr. 91 passed away on Friday, June 27, 2003 at his home in Sterling. He was born on Dec. 25, 1911, in Millboro, South Dakota, the son of Leslie and Jesse (Anderson) Zeigler and grew up on the family homestead where he acquired his love of machinery and the ability to repair anything made of metal or wood. He was a member of the 1929 State Champion High School football squad and graduated from Winner, SD High School in 1930.
After high school he attended Springfield Teachers College in Springfield, SD. He moved to Illinois in 1933 where he completed a course of study at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. In 1935, he moved to Dixon where he built a home and married
his high school sweetheart, Mildred Mundorff, on September 1, 1935 at the Dixon First Christian Church.
The family moved to Sterling in 1941 where he began a lifelong career as a master mechanic for several local industrial concerns. Merv's specialty was rebuilding engines, and that included everything from small lawn mowers to industrial truck engines and vintage Chevy V-8's for his admiring grandsons.
He retired in 1971, purchased a mini-home, and began to explore America with Mildred, visiting family and friends across the US and Canada.
Merv was a lifelong member and deacon of the First Christian Church of Sterling, where he took an active part in the construction of the present church and parsonage at 3400 6th Avenue. He could repair almost anything, usually improving its function in the process, and worked his magic for the benefit of church, family, and friends.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and took great pleasure in involvement with his family at work and play. Always willing and eager to pitch in, he helped with improvements to a home, repairing appliances and making toys for both family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two sisters: Irene Cerv of Winner, SD and Leona Dowden of Freeman, SD; three sons: Jim (Sandy) Zeigler of Sterling, Larry (Lana) Zeigler of Cape Coral, FL, Doug (Amy Jo) Zeigler of Richmond, VA, and daughter-in-law Sandra Zeigler of Ephrata, WA, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald, Gene, and Leonard, and his son Don.
Visitation will be at 9:00 am, the memorial service at 10:00 am on Monday, June 30th at First Christian Church of Sterling, 3400 6th Ave. Interment follows at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Memorials have been established at First Christian Church of Sterling and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
Funeral arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.
FRANK O. SULOUFF
STERLING - Frank O. Sulouff, 87, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at his home in Sterling after an illness. He was employed for many years as a Sheet Metal Worker for Weaver Sheet Metal.
Mr. Sulouff was born August 24, 1916 in Sterling, the son of Jacob and Emma G. (Hawk) Sulouff. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He married
Evelyn Simms.
Survivors include his wife, five children, ten grandchildren, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a son and one brother.
Private services will be held. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.
MARTIN C. FRANKFOTHER
COLETA - Martin C. Frankfother, 92, died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Morrison Skilled Care. He owned his own building contractor business until he retired.
Mr. Frankfother was born May 8, 1911 in Coleta, the son of Elias and Ora (Crom) Frankfother. He married
Ruth Heide on March 10, 1928. He was a member of the Coleta United Methodist Church. He had been involved in the construction of the original Emerald Hill Golf Club and Bowling Lanes and enjoyed golfing there. In addition to his construction business, Martin was the Village of Coleta Marshall, Constable, Deputy Sheriff and was Village Clerk for 26 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and along with Rothmer Bushman started the Coleta Sportman’s Club, and also, the Coleta Trout Pond which is still thriving today.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; a son, Daniel (Joyce) Frankfother of Milledgeville; two daughters, Rose (George) Ritenour of Coleta and Donna (Arnold) Chandler of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Gibson, Polly (Mark) Adams, Mark (Stacey) Chandler, Nancy (Scott) Bentley, Kevin (Maureen) Frankfother, Kayla (Howard) Talbot, Kent Frankfother; two step grandchildren, Julie (Darryl) Bouchard, Mark (Melinda) Fellner; 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, LaVerne and Burton Frankfother and three sisters, Leota Farwell, Iola Flynn and Kathryn Cain.
Memorial services will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Coleta United Methodist Church with the Reverend Polly Klimson, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday at the Schilling Funeral Home.

KENNETH A. TEACHOUT
FREEPORT - Mr. Kenneth A. Teachout, 51, of Freeport, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at his home.
Kenneth Teachout was born September 8, 1952 in Sterling, the son of Mason and June Bell Teachout. He married
Karen Beidler on May 9, 1987. Kenneth was a medic in the 101st Airborne of the U.S.Army serving in Vietnam for two years. Mr. Teachout was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of Freeport; his mother, June Teachout of Sterling; five step-sons, Mark Murphy of Rockford, Aaron Murphy of Freeport, Brian (Sandy) Murphy of Freeport, Butch Murphy and Joseph Murphy of Freeport; two step-daughters, Shari (Jim) Cook of Freeport and Kellie Jo (Harry) Beckman of Madison, WS; one brother, James Teachout of Sterling; many grandchildren; and many foster children.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Nancy Dvorachek of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday evening at Schilling Funeral Home.

EMILY G. RUTT
STERLING - Emily G. Rutt, 83, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at CGH Medical Center.
Private funeral services will be held at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Reverend Christine Gilbert, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Rutt was born August 18, 1920 in Altamont, the daughter of George and Hazel (Whinrey) Griffith. She graduated from Sterling High School in the Class of 1938. She married
John L. Rutt on October 5, 1940. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the CGH Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Susan (Rockne) Foreman of Iowa City, IA, Nancy (Larry) Morgan of Lake Bloomington, Patricia (Dennis) Aldrich of Sterling; five grandchildren, Sheila Foreman of Dallas, TX, Laura Aidan of Iowa City, IA, Jennifer Harrison of Bloomington, Eric Aldrich of Bollingbrook, Tim Aldrich of Sterling and a great-grandson, Jake Harrison of Bloomington; four brothers, George (Helen) Griffith of Chicago, John (Suzanne) Griffith of Woodburn, OR, Lee (Evelyn) Griffith of Ocala, FL, and Dr. Thomas (Nancy) Griffith of Decatur.

RAYMOND L. LOWRIE
ROCK FALLS - Raymond L. Lowrie, 79, of Rock Falls died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at CGH Medical Center. He was an over-the-road semi driver for Northwestern Steel & Wire and was a member of the Teamsters Union for 48 years until he retired in 1990.
Mr. Lowrie was born January 9, 1925 in Sterling, the son of Lyle and Ethel (Fritz) Lowrie. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He married
Gertrude Leopard on September 5, 1964 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of Moose Lodge #726 Sterling, American Legion Post #902 Rock Falls, Family Motor Coach Assoc., and past member of Rock River Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Pat Lowrie of Port Charlotte, FL; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Lyle E. Lowrie.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 AM, Monday, April 5, 2004 at Riverside cemetery with Reverend John Kermott, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sterling, officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home.

MARGOT N. HOYLE
STERLING - Margot N. Hoyle, 71, of Sterling, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at CGH Medical Center.
Mrs. Hoyle was born March 4, 1933 in Dudelange, Luxemburg, the daughter of Jean and Marie (Moschtert) Nepgen. She married
Edward Hoyle in April of 1954 in Luxemburg City, Luxemburg. He preceded her in death March 25, 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay (Chuck) Gaumer, Margot A. Hoyle, both of Sterling; four sons, John A. (Janet) Hoyle of Lincoln, NE, Edward D. (Laura) Hoyle, Jr. of Rock Falls, Patrick J. (Jill) Hoyle, and Ronald K. Hoyle, both of Sterling; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Annie Schmitt and a great grandson, Xavier Campbell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Carlson of Berean Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 AM Saturday, at the Funeral Home.

Donald C. Peterson
STERLING - Donald C. Peterson, 65, of sterling, died Friday March 26, 2004 in Ft. Meyers FL. He was CEO of Peterson, Book, Quigg, & Inboden. He was a member of Gyros, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Illinois Insurance Agent Association, PIIA, Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce, and past president of Sterling Chamber,
Mr. Peterson was born April 23, 1938, in Streator, the son of Leonard and Irene Mae (Daugherty) Peterson. He married
Karen Allen September 28, 1968, in Sterling.
Survivors include his wife; one son Donald Jr. (Anne) Peterson of Des Moines IA; two daughters Jennifer Peterson of Sterling, and Amie Peterson of Steamboat Springs CO; two grandchildren Zachary Allen Peterson, and Benjamin Thomas Peterson.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 Thursday, at St. Mary’s Church, Sterling, with the Monsignor Thomas Bales officiating. Burial is at Calvary cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 Wednesday at Schilling Funeral Home.

JAMES R. CUMMINGS
STERLING - James R. Cummings, 63, of Sterling died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He retired from Kelly-Springfield, Freeport, after 32 years.
James was born January 20, 1941 in Freeport, the son of Robert and Iola Cummings. He served in the US Navy. He married
Marilyn Poffenberger in 1961. He later married
Gloria Plumb Ankney in 1990. He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, Sterling, where he served as a deacon, elder, and taught Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; three daughters, Sue (Mark) Williams, Barbara Bell, both of Freeport, Karen (Lucas) Blum of Tacoma, WA; one son, Steven Cummings of Arlington Heights; two step-daughters, Catherine Rogers of Rock Falls, Tina (Karl) Vandermyde of Peoria; his mother, Iola Cummings of Freeport; one sister, Jean (Juan) Rameriz of Freeport; and seven grandchildren.
Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be at 4 PM, Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Bethel Reformed Church, Sterling, with Pastor Kenneth Zuithoff officiating. The family will receive friends one half hour before the services. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.
In his memory a memorial has been established to Bethel Reformed Church Building Fund.
Florence M. Wolber
POLO - Florence M. Wolber, 85, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Continental Manor, Polo. She was a retired factory worker at General Electric Co. in Morrison.
Mrs. Wolber was born July 17, 1918 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Charles North and Marneva (Coyle) Yellowstone. She married
Thomas Wolber on August 7, 1945 in Vandalia, MO. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Henderson of Lebanon, IN; a son, John (Laurel) Wolber of Bloomington; a sister, Juanita Yellowstone of Vandalia, MO; four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a son, Charles and a sister, Alida.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM, Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from Noon to 1 PM, Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
