Kenneth Helton
Kenneth Wade Helton died Saturday, October 24, 1998, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. A resident of Greenwood, he was 66.
He left survivors in the Brown County area.
Mr. Helton was born July 28, 1932, in Sevier County, Tennessee to Ernest Wade and Reba Suttles Helton.
He and Cleo B. Byrd were married April 10, 1954. She survives.
Mr. Helton attended Sevier County High School in Tennessee.
He had worked as a farmer in Johnson and Monroe counties. Mr. Helton also had worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Helton was a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church and Teamsters Union Local 135 in Indianapolis.
He served as a United States Army staff sergeant during the Korean War. He was stationed with the 3rd Infantry at Fort Riley, Kansas and in Germany.
Other survivors include two daughters, Cathy Pettay of Atlanta, Georgia and Heather Ann Helton of Greenwood; three sons, Steven W. Helton of Nineveh, Kenneth "Jeff" Helton and Jamie S. Helton, both of Greenwood; two sisters, Ernestine Bittle of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Betty Butler of Newport, Tennessee; two brothers, LeRoy Helton of Sevierville, Tennessee and Herbert Helton of Seymore, Tennessee; an aunt, Edna Emmert of Maryville, Tennessee; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Pettay.
The Reverend Paul Coates and Reverend Clyde McCormick led a service Tuesday, October 27, at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was in Johnson County's Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Doris L. Miller
Cordry-Sweetwater Conservancy District resident Doris Laverne Smith Miller died Wednesday, October 28, 1998, at Regency Place in Greenwood. She was 74.
Mrs. Miller was born February 25, 1924, in Indianapolis to Henry Smith and Pearl Bloucher Smith.
She and Richard Omer Miller Sr. were married June 9, 1944, in Indianapolis. He died in 1980.
Mrs. Miller was graduated from Danville High School in Hendricks County.
She had worked at Electra Corporation in Cumberland for several years, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Church of the Lakes in northern Brown County. She was also a member of the church's choir.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald L. Miller and Robert P. Miller, both of Nineveh; a daughter, Cyrena Dailey of Nineveh; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Chrisman; a son, Richard Omer Miller Jr.; and a brother, Roy Smith.
The Reverend Richard Crowley conducted a service Saturday morning, October 31, at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Larry Pruitt
Lick Creek Road resident Larry D. Pruitt died Monday, October 26, 1998, at his home. He was 52.
Mr. Pruitt was born December 21, 1945, in Johnson County to Verlie and Nora Crowhorn Pruitt.
He and Valerie J. Fleener were married June 30, 1989, in Franklin. She survives in northern Brown County.
Mr. Pruitt had worked as a machinist at Overton Carbide in Franklin for the last year. Before that, he had worked for 10 years at Indiana Tool and Die in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the North American Hunting Association.
Mr. Pruitt enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on cars.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Other survivors include a son, Adam D. Pruitt of Waverly; a daughter, Crissy Blake of Pearl, Mississippi; two step-children, Victor Noel Jr. of Cooksville, Illinois, and Angel Lawson of Amity; eight grandchildren; a brother, Verlie Pruitt Jr. of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and two sisters, Effie Jane Sherard of Apple Valley, California and Carol Louise Olsen of Chino Hills, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Marvin Pruitt.
The Reverend Jonathan Hutchison conducted a service Friday, October 30, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bartholomew County Hospice, 2400 East 17th Street, Columbus, Indiana 47201.

Bob E. Quigley
Columbus resident Bob E. Quigley died Monday morning, October 26, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was 68.
Mr. Quigley was born May 17, 1930, in Clay County.
He first married Rachel K. Ollie. She died July 30, 1968. He then married Rovene Bergman Clark October 31, 1970. She survives in Bartholomew County.
Mr. Quigley had worked as a materials coordinator at Arvin Industries. He was a former vice president of purchasing at Vernco Corporation.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Quigley was a member of the Brown County Country Club, Anheuser-Busch Collectors Club and Indiana Caged Bird Club.
Other survivors include two step-daughters, Janet George of Columbus and Brenda Shirato of Longview, Texas; two step-sons, Terry Clark and Danny Clark, both of Columbus; six grandchildren; and three foster sons, Gary Gillis of North Vernon and Ray Wade and Gerald Wade, both of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Quigley.
The Reverend Mitchell J. Coggin led a service Thursday morning, October 29, at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel in Columbus.
Burial was in that city's Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the donor's choice of charities.

Joan Shoemake
Joan D. Shoemake died Tuesday, October 27, 1998, in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, she was 72.
Ms. Shoemake was born June 12, 1926 in Tennessee.
She had worked as a bartender at the 4 Good Times Bar for 25 years, retiring in 1990.
Ms. Shoemake was a member of American Legion Post 88.
Survivors include her care giver, Randy Mooreland; three step-sons, Chet Hamilton, Victory Hamilton and Jay Hamilton; a step-daughter, Kathie Hamilton; and three grandchildren.
A service was conducted Friday, October 30, at Apha Funeral Service in Indianapolis.
Burial was in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dekoda Stevens
One-month-old infant Dekoda Allen Lee Stevens died Sunday, October 25, 1998, in his Edinburgh home.
The infant was born September 23, 1998, in Columbus to Ricky Dean Stevens Jr. and Amy Jo Mathews Stevens.
Other survivors include two brothers, Zachary Loren Martin of Edinburgh and Jordan Dale Stevens of Brown County; grandparents, Elza and Deborah Pack of Nashville, Robert Sampson and Ruth Mathews, both of Edinburgh, Ricky and Becky Stevens of Mount Auburn and Rick Mathews of Columbus; great-grandparents, Harold and Betty Oakley of Shelbyville, Charles and Audrey Engram of Indianapolis, Russell and Fay Mathews of Greensburg, Margie Stevens of Edinburgh, Elza and Kathern Pack of Columbus; Susie Simpson of Gardena, California, Robert and Juanita Sampson of New Whiteland, and John and Dorothy Lucas of Mount Auburn; and his great-great-grandmother, Nellie Gambrel of Indianapolis.
The Reverend Joe Smith led a service Wednesday, October 28, at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
Burial was in that city's Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mary L. Young
Nashville resident Mary L. Young died Wednesday, October 28, 1998, at Meadowood Health Pavilion in Bloomington. She was 89.
Mrs. Young was born April 20, 1909, in Seward, Kansas to John and Fannie Campbell Grimes.
She was married to Leslie Young. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Young moved to Brown County from Owensburg in June 1988.
Mrs. Young attended the Nashville Christian Church. She volunteered her time at Bloomington Hospital.
She had worked as a bookkeeper, telephone switchboard operator and secretary in Hutchison, Kansas.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, November 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Nashville Christian Church.
Columbus Crematorium was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Nashville Christian Church or Bloomington Hospital.

Joan Davidson
Joan Marie Ratliff Davidson, a Brown County native and former resident, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998, at her home in Whiteland. She was 60.
Mrs. Davidson was born February 25, 1938, to Jesse and Esther Jacobs Ratliff. They survive in Morgantown.
She and Richard Davidson were married June 28, 1958, in Whiteland. He survives.
Mrs. Davidson was graduated from Jackson Township's Helmsburg High School in 1957.
She had been librarian at Whiteland Elementary School for 25 years.
Mrs. Davidson was a member of Greenwood Christian Church and the Indiana Library Associates.
She had served as secretary for the National Boer Goat Show at the Indiana State Fair.
Other survivors include a son, Kerry L. Davidson of Whiteland; three sisters, Betty Stillabower of Franklin, June Baker of Bargersville and Kay Bonham of Greenwood; a brother, Danny Ratliff of Morgantown; and three grandsons.
The Reverend Shan Rutherford led a service Friday, November 6, at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was at Morgantown's East Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Whiteland Elementary School Library, 120 Center Street, Whiteland, Indiana 46184.

Linda Lawson
Linda Lee Lawson died Thursday, November 5, 1998, at her home in Laurel, Montana. She was 54.
Ms. Lawson was born October 6, 1944, in Indianapolis to Irvin "Red" Lawson and Alice Kemp Lawson. Her father survives in Needmore. Her mother lives in Denver, Colorado.
She had worked for Montana Bell and Indiana Bell telephone companies.
Ms. Lawson was of the Jehovah's Witness faith.
Other survivors include her step-mother, Glodine Lawson of Needmore; two sons, David Lawson of Martinsville and Shannon Miller of Laurel, Montana; four daughters, Delina Miller, Melody Miller, Connie Miller and Alisha Miller, all of Laurel, Montana; and seven grandchildren.
A service was conducted Monday, November 9, in Billings, Montana.

Stanley Miller
Stanley Robert Miller, the brother of Morgantown resident Jimmy Miller, died Monday, November 2, 1998, at his Greenwood home. He was 50.
Mr. Miller was born October 9, 1948, in Indianapolis to Stanley and Elizabeth Louise Tucker Miller.
He had worked as a metal fabercasting lineman at Chevrolet Motor Company since 1968.
Mr. Miller was a member of the United Auto Workers union, National Turkey Federation and the Indiana Bow Hunters Association.
Other survivors include a son, Brian J. Miller of Indianapolis; a daughter, Shawn Vanchieri of Indianapolis; two sisters, Norena Witt of New Whiteland and Vickie Roach of Indianapolis; three other brothers, Steve G. Miller and Randy A. Miller, both of Morgantown and Ronnie Miller of Spencer; and five grandchildren, Dustin Miller, Emily Miller, Christian Miller, Levi Vanchieri and Sarah Vanchieri, all of Indianapolis.
A service was conducted Thursday, November 5, at N.F. Chance Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
Burial was in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Katherine Nigh
Katherine Louise Nigh, the sister of Nashville resident Elsie Wayman, died Monday, November 2, 1998, at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville. A resident of that city, she was 84.
Mrs. Nigh was born November 10, 1913, in Bartholomew County to Johnathan Elijah and I.V. Lawrence Glick.
She and Ralph E. Nigh were married December 31, 1935. He died April 26, 1977.
Mrs. Nigh was graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1932.
She had worked at J.G. DePrez Company, Bryant Ruth Furniture, Diana Shop, Lords, Value Shop, Goodman's Department Store and the Morristown Canning Factory.
Mrs. Nigh was a member of the Marion Township BP Club, Your Friends and Mine Club, New Life Women's Club, and Hope Moravian Church.
She had also attended New Life United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church, both in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Nigh had volunteered her time at the Methodist Home in Franklin and with Shelby Senior Services.
Other survivors include a son, Richard Nigh of Shelbyville; a daughter, Janice Harding of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Nigh was preceded in death by a sister; and a brother.
The Reverend Robert M. Campbell conducted a service Friday, November 6, at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
Burial was in that city's Forest Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charities.
