Olive Kattman
Nashville resident Olive L. Kelly Kattman died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. She was 91.
Mrs. Kattman was born August 23, 1907, in Poland to Frank and Caroline Heath Cagle.
She was first married to Albert Wayne Kelly. She then married James N. Kattman. Both husbands preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kattman had worked at F.W. Woolworth and Company for 29 years, retiring in 1964.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Kattman also was a member and former president of the Social Order of Beauceant and the order's Past Presidents Club.
Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Kelly of Gosport and Charles R. Kelly of Nashville; two daughters, Caroline Pelt of Dayton, Ohio and Albert Jarboe of Nashville; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; four sisters; and two granddaughters.
The Reverend Phil Amerson led a service Saturday afternoon, March 21, at Day Mortuary in Blooming-ton. Burial was in that city's Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Mildred Moore
County resident Mildred Marie Moore died Saturday evening, March 20, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. She was 86.
Mrs. Moore was born December 29, 1912, in Muncie to Lawrence Alonzo Jackson and Lydia Margaret Heck.
She and Roy Moore were married July 7, 1957. He died July 13, 1986.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker. She also had worked as a cook at Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park.
She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in southern Brown County.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Wilkerson of Tigard, Oregon and James Wilkerson of Columbus; eight step-children; 28 step-grandchildren; and 46 step-great-grandchildren; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a son, John Wilkerson.
Pastor Richard Stolle will lead a service today, March 24, at 10 a.m. in the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial will be in Bean Blossom's Weeping Willow Cemetery.

Roxanna S. Smith
Former Morgantown resident Roxanna Stockton Smith died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Fairfield, California. A resident of that city, she was 76.
Mrs. Smith was born June 27, 1922, in Morgantown to Marion U. and Lettie H. Hunter Stockton.
She was graduated from Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) in Terre Haute and Solano Community College in California.
She had worked for several United States government agencies and retired from the Solano County Health Department in California in 1986.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield, California and was a Sunday school teacher.
She volunteered from the American Red Cross.
Survivors include three sisters, Aileen Douglas of Indianapolis, Rahletha Clark of Friendswood, Texas and Anzonetta Stockton of Franklin; and two local nephews, Norman Stockton of Morgantown and Jim Stockton of Ellettsville.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas Stockton, Woodrow Stockton and Merlin Stockton; and three sisters, Genevieve Reid, Josephine Brown and Patricia Watson.
Pastor Burt Brock led a service Monday, March 22, at Morgantown's East Hill Cemetery.

Thomas Todt
Hamilton Creek Road resident Thomas A. "Tom" Todt died Sunday morning, March 14, 1999, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was 49.
Mr. Todt was born October 20, 1949, in Litchfield, Illinois to Claude A. and Rita Hough Todt.
He was graduated from Lincolnwood High School at Raymond, Illinois in 1967 and earned a degree in communications from Sangamon State University at Springfield, Illinois in 1972.
Mr. Todt had worked as an appliance salesman at Sears for more than 10 years and had also worked for Lemley Catering.
He was a second class volunteer firefighter for the Van Buren Township Volunteer Fire Depart-ment in southern Brown County. He was a fixture at the organization's annual hog roast, cooking the hog or serving visitors to the event.
Survivors include a long-time partner, Ben Watkins of Columbus; two sisters, Alice Perry of Wailuku, Hawaii and Margaret Jewitt of Clinton, Illinois; and a brother, John Todt of East Peoria, Illinois.
The Reverend Richard Hindel led a service Wednesday morning, March 17, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Oratory in Columbus.
Burial was in Brown County's Christiansburg Cemetery.

Wendell Brand
Brown County native Wendell L. Brand died Monday morning, March 22, 1999, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 63.
Mr. Brand was born May 29, 1935, in Brown County to Hiram W. and Rosa Shephard Brand.
His first wife, Jane Brand, preceded him in death. He and Mary V. Vanator March 5, 1971. She survives in Bartholomew County.
Mr. Brand had worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus.
He was a member of the Garden City Church of Christ and the American Legion.
Mr. Brand attended Indiana University and was active in ROTC while he was a student there.
Other survivors include a step-daughter, Lena Woodhouse of Peru; a step-granddaughter, Carol Yvonne Collins of Fort Wayne; and two brothers, Bernard F. Brand of Van Buren Township and Bicel Brand of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darla Brand.
The Reverend David Smith and Reverend Kenneth Manning conducted a service Thursday afternoon, March 25, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in that city’s Garland Brook Cemetery.

Anthony A. Dortch
Helmsburg Elementary School first grader Anthony Allen Dortch (Parrish) died Sunday, March 21, 1999, from injuries he received in an automobile accident between Dalton, Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was seven years old.
Anthony was born June 8, 1991, in Bloomington to Roger Dortch and Teresa Parrish. His father lives in Martinsville. His mother survives in Brown County.
He had lived on Jackson Township’s West Robertson Road.
Other survivors include his step-father, Tracy Parrish of Morgantown; his step-mother, Becky Dortch of Martinsville; grandparents, Seymore and Laurelyn Parrish of Morgantown and Robert and Janet Dortch of Indianapolis; two brothers, Nicholas Dortch and Chancelor Parrish, both of Morgantown; a sister, Erin Parrish of Morgantown; a half-brother, Nicholas Watson of Martinsville; and a half-sister, Nichole Watson of Martinsville.
The Reverend Paul Hardin conducted a service Friday afternoon, March 26, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Weeping Willow Cemetery at Bean Blossom.
Daniel Hancock
Daniel T. Hancock died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home in Bedford. He was 46.
Mr. Hancock left survivors in the Brown County area.
He was born October 19, 1952, in Bedford to Wayne and Nancy Harrison Hancock. His parents survive in Bedford.
Mr. Hancock earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Purdue University.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Hancock had been manager of the Bedford Pawn Shop and was active in ham radio.
Other survivors include two brothers, Noble Joe Hancock of Bedford and Stanley W. Hancock of Nineveh; a sister, Anita Gayle Neeley of Ellettsville; and several nieces and nephews.
The Reverend Richard Chase led a service Tuesday, March 23, in Lawrence County’s Beech Grove Cemetery.
Day and Carter Mortuary in Bedford was in charge of arrangements.

Nell Handwork
Nell E. Handwork, the sister of Morgantown resident Catherine Gruber, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, she was 91.
Mrs. Handwork was born April 4, 1908, in Greenwood to Thomas and Ida Stevens Paxton.
She was married to Earl K. Handwork. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Handwork had worked at Crippin Printing Company, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of Bookbinder Union 303 and Greenwood Christian Church.
Mrs. Handwork was a former resident of Olive Branch Christian Church.
Other survivors include a son, Richard Paxton of Louisville, Kentucky; two nieces, Patty Wright, who had been her caregiver for many years, and Gloria Ladd of Morgantown; a nephew, Jimmy Rose of Whiteland; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A service was conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 23, at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
Burial was in that city’s Washington Park East Cemetery.

Charlotte Hart
Charlotte A. Hart, the sister of Brown County resident Bob Skaggs, died Thursday evening, March 25, 1999, at Universal Healthcare Center in Franklin. A resident of Edinburgh, she was 44.
Ms. Hart was born January 23, 1955, in Columbus to Charles and Ann Daniels Skaggs.
She had been a homemaker.
Other survivors include a sister, Tina R. Giles of Indianapolis; and another brother, Barry D. Wyatt of Oklahoma.
Ms. Hart was preceded in death by her parents.
The Reverend John Penn led a private service in Edinburgh’s Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mary Johnston
Mary A. Stretch Johnston, the mother of Morgantown resident Nancy Ashley, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at her home in Greenwood. She was 73.
Mrs. Johnston was born November 5, 1925, to Thomas and Alice Lenhart Stretch.
She and Robert K. Johnston were married February 5, 1945. He survives.
Mrs. Johnston had worked as a hospital aide for many years in California before retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church.
Other survivors include a son, Ron Johnston of Lancaster, California; two other daughters, Barbara Johnston of Greenwood and Kim Fox of Indianapolis; two sisters, Pat Dolan and Helen Malan; and a brother, Thomas Lenhart; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Monsignor Harold O. Knueven conducted a service Monday, March 8, at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home’s State Road 135 Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Michael Malone
Michael R. Malone, the brother of Nashville resident Terri Perkinson, died Saturday morning, March 27, 1999, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 46.
Mr. Malone was born October 2, 1952, in Columbus to Beeler R. Malone and Lourena Cookson Richie. Both his parents survive in Columbus.
He and Theresa Gwaltney were married December 21, 1985. She survives.
Mr. Malone had worked as a floor coating installer for Dixon Coatings Incorporated.
He was a member of Columbus Carting Club, Moose Lodge and Brown County’s St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Other survivors include his step-mother, Virginia Malone of Columbus; his step-father, Elbert Richie of Columbus; two sons, Brandon Malone and Ross Malone, both at home; two daughters, Sherry Edwards and Crystal Smith, both of Columbus; two brothers, Richard Richie and James Richie, both of Columbus; another sister, Wanda Hertz of Madison; and four grandchildren, Jordyn Edwards, Jenna Edwards, Sara Smith and Zachary Smith, all of Columbus.
Father William Stumpf led a service Tuesday afternoon, March 30, at St. Agnes Catholic Church on State Road 135 North.
Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.

Marie McFadden
A. Marie McFadden died Friday evening, March 26, 1999, at her home on the Brown-Bartholomew County line. She was 77.
Mrs. McFadden was born February 23, 1922, in Bartholomew County to Oscar and A. Drusilla Jackson Wheeler. Her father’s family was originally from Brown County.
She had worked for the U.S.O. and had been an executive secretary at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 30 years before retiring.
Mrs. McFadden was a member of the Ogilville Church of Christ, where she had served as church secretary.
Survivors include a daughter, Mona M. Peterson of Columbus; and two grandchildren, Kathleen E.R. Peterson and Patrick S. Peterson, both of Columbus.
Robin Thompson and Marty Wright conducted a service Tuesday, March 29, 1999, at Ogilville Church of Christ.
Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.

Marvin H. Mead
Brown County native Marvin Harold "Pete" Mead died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, he was 73.
Mr. Mead was born January 31, 1926, in Brown County to Marvin and Mamie Pearl Condon Mead.
He was married to Catherine M. Luke. She died in 1997.
Mr. Mead had worked as a motor route carrier for the Indianapolis Star and Indianapolis News in the Lawrence area of Marion County from 1947 until retiring in 1994.
He was graduated from Helmsburg High School in 1944.
Mr. Mead was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army’s 32nd Division. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Medal and Victory Medal for his military service.
He had been a member of the Northeastwood Bowling League for many years. Mr. Mead was also a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Michael L. Luke of Indianapolis; a niece, Dottie Goble of Brown County; two nephews, Lee Waltman and Gene Waltman, both of Brown County; and four grandchildren, Jason Luke, Brent Luke, Moriah Luke and Michael L. Luke II.
A service was conducted Tuesday morning, March 30, at Shirley Brothers Mortuary’s Irving Hill Chapel in Indianapolis.
Burial was in that city’s Floral Park Cemetery.
