Quincy Shelton
Quincy Ray Shelton, the great-grandson of Morgantown resident Tex Clawson, died Tuesday evening, June 8, 1999, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The infant was born May 16, 1999, in Columbus to Brian R. Shelton and Kimra D. Louden.
Other survivors include grandparents, Roy D. Shelton of Columbus, Trina N. Shelton of Kentucky and Robert W. and Brenda D. Louden of Columbus; and several other great-grandparents, Grace Shelton, Rita Dodson and J.C. and Martha Louden, all of Columbus and Russell and Nancy Weekly of Elizabethtown.
The Reverend Steve Spencer led a service Friday afternoon, June 11, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in that city's Garland Brook Cemetery.

Dempsey Slone
Clay Lick Road resident Dempsey Adrian Slone died Thursday morning, June 10, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 58.
Mr. Slone was born February 18, 1941, in Hindman, Kentucky to Estill Slone and Amanda Reynolds.
He was married to Brenda Leach. She survives in Brown County.
Mr. Slone retired from the Indiana State Police in 1984. In recent years, he had been a property manager for David R. Webb.
He had been a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge; ABATE Motorcycle Club, Columbus Motorcycle Club and the Baptist church.
Other survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Pollert and Lisa Wyke, both of Columbus; a son, David Slone of Medford, New Jersey; a brother, Tilden Slone of Seymour; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Slone was preceded in death by his parents.
A service was conducted Monday morning, June 14, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Speorri Hill Cemetery on Clay Lick Road.

Gerene Walker
Morgantown resident Gerene Walker died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove. She was 77.
Mrs. Walker was born March 17, 1922, in Garrard County, Kentucky to Alfred and Ruby Wren Tankersly.
She and Ray W. Walker were married July 10, 1941, in Columbus. He survives.
Mrs. Walker was a homemaker.
She had been a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary of Federal Employees.
Mrs. Walker was a charter member of the Morgantown Rebekah Lodge in 1948. She had been the club's secretary for more than 50 years.
She enjoyed country music, fishing and flower gardening.
Other survivors include a son, John William Walker of Morgantown; a grandson, John Wayne Walker of Trafalgar; a great-grandson, Robert A. W. Walker of Trafalgar; two step-great-grandchildren, Mike Craciunoiu and Sarah Craciunoiu, both of Trafalgar; a brother, June Tankersly of Spencer; and two sisters, Dissie Johnson of Morgantown and Virginia Emberton of Spearsville.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Winnie Barron and two infant siblings.
The Reverend Jim Tharpe will lead a service today, June 16, at 11 a.m. in Meredith-Clark Funeral Home at Morgantown.
Burial was in that community's East Hill Cemetery.

Clyde L. Barclay
Clyde Lee Barclay, the father of Upper Schooner Road resident Maudie Jones, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. A resident of Stevenson, Alabama, he was 72.
A native of Alabama, Mr. Barclay was born August 26, 1926.
He was married to Josephine Arnold. She survives in Stevenson, Alabama.
Mr. Barclay retired from the United States Navy after more than 20 years of service. He served during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.
After retiring, Mr. Barclay worked at the Widows Creek Steam Plant in Jackson County, Alabama.
He was a member of Centennial Baptist Church near Eureka, Alabama.
Other survivors include three sons, Steve Barclay of Burke, Virginia and Tony Barclay and Andy Barclay, both of Stevenson, Alabama; another daughter, Lora Eve Barclay of Stevenson, Alabama; a sister, Edith George of Woodville, Alabama; a brother, Floyd Manning of Scottsboro, Alabama; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Barclay was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Barclay and Clyde Leon Barclay.
The Reverend Donnie Guinn, the Reverend George Warr and the Reverend John Gamble conducted a service Thursday afternoon, June 10, at the Rudder Funeral Home Chapel in Stevenson, Alabama.
Burial was in that community’s Centennial Baptist Church Cemetery.
Maurice Clark
Former Trafalgar area resident Maurice E. Clark died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at his home in Friendswood, Texas. He was 89.
Mr. Clark was born December 23, 1909, in Trafalgar to Ogle D. Clark and Emma Handy Clark.
He and Rahletha Stockton were married December 15, 1940, in Morgantown. She survives.
Mr. Clark had worked as a chemist in the control lab at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis for 33 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Trafalgar Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, American Chemical Society and First Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida.
He was a former president of the Indiana Chapter of the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Clark was graduated from Franklin College in 1932. He did graduate work at Purdue University.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include a daughter, Donna E. Cook of Houston, Texas; a son, Phillip R. Clark of Littleton, Colorado; three grandchildren, Brian Clark, Christen Clark and Hope Roese; and a brother, Harold Clark of Trafalgar.
The Reverend Burt Brock conducted a service Friday afternoon, June 25, in Morgantown’s East Hill Cemetery.
Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown was in charge of arrangements.
Carl D. Davis
Carl DeWitt Davis, the father of former Nashville Town Board member John V. Davis, died Wednesday evening, June 16, 1999, at the Life Care Center in Rochester. He was 93.
Mr. Davis was born April 12, 1906, in Mechanicsville, Iowa to Rhea Earl and Alberta Blanche Hoover Davis.
He and Ruth L. Foster were married October 8, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She survives in Rochester.
Mr. Davis had also lived in the St. Joseph County town of Granger before moving to Rochester.
He had worked as a general superintendent at some of the largest construction companies in the country for many years. Some of the projects Mr. Davis helped build were Veterans Administration hospitals in Fort Wayne, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Iowa City, Iowa.
He had also helped construct barracks at Camp Atterbury on Brown County’s east side.
Mr. Davis was also active in construction projects at Cabrinnie Green Housing Project on Chicago’s south side, Continental Motor Plant in Muskegon, Michigan and the former Studebaker Aviation Plant in South Bend.
He had also served as general manager for the Charles Aulm Construction Company in South Bend and operated a farm in St. Joseph County.
Mr. Davis had been a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rochester, and the Fulton County Historical Society.
He was a former president of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union Local 413. Mr. Davis had been a member of that organization for 50 years.
He had also been a life-time member of the Fulton County Friends of the Library and a charter member of Talma Lions Club.
Other survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Vlasek of Ingram, Texas, Shirley Jean McAlpine of Granite Bay, California, Therese Margaret Wade of Fishers and Annette Howard of Dallas, Texas; two other sons, Ray F. Davis of Vero Beach, Florida and Robert Carl Davis of Mishawaka; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wynema Hoffman of Springville, Iowa.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Davis; and a sister, Nadine Davis.
Father John Zahn conducted a service Tuesday afternoon, June 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in northern Indiana.
Burial was at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Fulton County.
Foster and Good Funeral Home in Rochester was in charge of arrangements.
Annie J. England
Annie J. England, the mother of Nashville resident Robert C. England, died Wednesday evening, June 16, 1999, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of that city, she was 76.
Mrs. England was born February 27, 1923, in Metcalf County, Kentucky to James B. and Jennie Patrick Abner.
She and Olie C. England were married January 4, 1942, in Glasgow, Kentucky. He died March 21, 1976.
Mrs. England was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Garden City Church of Christ.
Other survivors include two daughters, Annie Estes of Columbus and Jennie Jeffries of Elizabethtown; another son, Dennis E. England of Columbus; a sister, Elsie Newland of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Ramey; and two brothers, James Abner and Bill Abner.
Virgil Clotfelter led a service Saturday morning, June19, at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel in Columbus.
Burial was in that city’s Garland Brook Cemetery.

Wilma Fitzpatrick
Wilma D. Fitzpatrick died Saturday evening, June 19, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. A resident of North Vernon, she was 68.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick left survivors in Brown County.
She was born May 12, 1931, in Bartholomew County to Harold Jobe and June Olmstead Littiken.
She and James Fitzpatrick were married October 26, 1952. He died March 20, 1996.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick had worked as a school bus driver in Jennings County for more than 20 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Roland of North Vernon; six brothers, Richard Littiken of Gnaw Bone, Charles Franklin Littiken of Nashville and Harold Littiken Jr., Larry Littiken, Darell Littiken and Ronald Littiken, all of Ogilville; and a grandson, Gregory James Roland of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Kay Childers.
There was no funeral.

Jessie Jackson
Brown County native Jessie George Jackson died Monday, June 14, 1999, at a hospital in Anaheim, California. A resident of that city, she was 82.
Mrs. Jackson was born June 14, 1917, in Nashville to Clayton and Iniz Crider George.
Her father was a former Brown County recorder and commissioner.
She was married to Wayne Jackson. He survives in California.
Mrs. Jackson is also survived by a sister, Dessa G. McVey of Bloomington; and a brother, Harry George of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bessi G. Smedley; three brothers, James George, Harold George and Franklin George; and a nephew, David Baillett.
There was no service.

Alberta Powell
Former Brown County resident Alberta Mae Campbell Ridinger Jackson Powell died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. She was 96.
Mrs. Powell was born May 4, 1903, in Springsboro, Ohio to Charles and Elsie Wier Campbell.
She was married to Joseph F. Powell Sr. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Powell had been a homemaker.
Survivors include seven children, Paul Jackson of Indianapolis, Edith Pothast of Covington, Marcia Reeves-Westwater of Nineveh, Bill Powell of Whiteland, John Powell of Sarasota, Florida, Katherine Ridinger of Noblesville and Lydia Powell of Franklin; 45 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 10 children, Dorothy Powell, Marjorie Conway, Charles Ridinger, Herbert Ridinger, Alfreda Jackson, Joseph Powell Jr., Berthea Ott, Delton Powell, E. Lee Powell and Louise Surface.
A service was conducted Saturday morning, June 19, at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
Burial was in that city’s Round Hill Cemetery.
Tyler Shanabarger
Six-month-old Tyler R. Shana-barger died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at his home in Franklin.
He was born November 26, 1998, in Bloomington to Ronald L. and Amy S. Parsons Shanabarger. They survive in Franklin.
The infant had relatives who lived in Brown County’s Jackson Township.
Other survivors include maternal grandparents, Robert and Latrelle Parsons of Martinsville; maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Parsons of Lawrence; and an aunt, Benita Savage of Richmond Hill, Georgia.
Tyler was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Carmen Shanabarger.
Robert Parsons led a service Tuesday afternoon, June 22, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery near Martinsville.
Chester Smith
Chester C. Smith died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove. A resident of Greenwood, he was 64.
He left survivors in Brown County.
Mr. Smith was born March 16, 1935, in Trafalgar to Clayton and Anna Scudder Smith.
He and Naomi Benedict were married March 1, 1993. She survives in Johnson County.
Mr. Smith had worked as a machinist for Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors for 16 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Greenwood Lodge, Franklin Senior Citizens. Mr. Smith played with the senior citizens’ band in Franklin.
Other survivors include a son, Lyle Smith of Westville; three step-sons, Mark Davis, Scott Davis and Dan Davis, all of Indianapolis; three daughters, Donna Harper of Indianapolis, Sioux Renney of Fort Myers, Florida and Judy Edwards of Indianapolis; three brothers, Roderick Smith of Sheridan, Lester Smith of Three Story Hill Road and Steve Smith of Helmsburg; two sisters, Juanita Cottongim of Cloverdale and Joann Mollott of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A service was conducted Saturday afternoon, June 19, at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Indianapolis.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Senior Citizens Center.
Dale Voshell
Morgantown resident Dale Voshell died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at the Kennedy Living Center in Martinsville. He was 75.
Mr. Voshell was born February 25, 1924, in Morgan County to Earl M. and Oma T. Secrest Voshell.
He and Lou Allen Voshell were married July 29, 1945, in Morgantown. She died December 26, 1982.
Mr. Voshell had worked as a truck driver for Amoco Oil Company for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He had also worked for the safety patrol at the Indianapolis Motor Speed-way for 44 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the Morgantown First Christian Church and Good Sams Camping Club.
Mr. Voshell enjoyed bowling and golfing. He had bowled in several leagues in Martinsville.
He had served in the European Theater for the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Voshell was graduated from Eminence High School in 1941.
Survivors include two sons, Bradley Voshell of Morgantown and Greg Voshell of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Katia E. Voshell; and two sisters, Lillie Knoy and Velma Richards, both of Paragon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Rae Voshell; and two brothers, Lee Voshell and his twin, Dennis Voshell.
The Reverend Gene McClain led a service Saturday morning, June 19, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community’s East Hill Cemetery.
