Jessie Alstott
Brown County Community Care Center resident Alice Jessie "Aunt Jessie" Alstott died September 12, 1998, at the center in Salt Creek Park. She was 92.
Mrs. Alstott was born February 18, 1906, to Edwin A. and Elizabeth M. Hawley Snider.
She was married to Robert E. Alstott. He died in 1977.
Mrs. Alstott attended Helmsburg school.
She was a homemaker and antique dealer.
Mrs. Alstott had owned Alstott's Antiques in Indianapolis from 1938 until 1967.
She was a member of Indianapolis Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 393.
Survivors include a brother, Lloyd Snider of Trevlac; a sister, Helen Moore of Indianapolis; 25 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and nephews.
Mrs. Alstott was preceded in death by two sisters, Lenora Mobley and Irene Fritch; and four brothers, Martin Snider, Ivan Snider, Paul Snyder and Harry E. "Punk" Snider.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the activity fund at Brown County Community Care Center, Post Office Box 667, Nashville, Indiana 47448.

Rhule E. Beck
Former Brown County resident Rhule Edward Beck died Saturday, September 5, 1998, at his home in Trafalgar. He was 60.
Mr. Beck was born May 25, 1938, in Marion County to Asa Beck and Mary House Beck Scales.
He and Myrtis D. Sanders were married January 15, 1960, in Brown County. She survives.
Mr. Beck had worked at Roto-Rooter Plumbing and Sewer Service Company in Indianapolis.
He was a member of World Life Tabernacle Church in Morgantown.
Mr. Beck was a former member of the Indianapolis Moose Lodge.
He was an avid Indianapolis Colts football fan.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marvel Viola Butcher of Richmond; a son, Virgil Leslie Beck of Indianapolis; a brother, John Beck of Beech Grove; a foster sister, Laura Bibles of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and a step-grandson.
Mr. Beck was preceded in death by a son in 1977; and a brother.
The Reverend David Sanders and Reverend Rex Deckard led a service Wednesday morning, September 9, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Hamblen Township's Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rosemary Burns
Former Brown County resident Rosemary A. Burns died Tuesday, September 8, 1998, at the Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin.
A resident of Morgantown, she was 92.
Mrs. Burns was born June 4, 1906, in Indianapolis to Mac and Rose Arbuckle Butler.
She and Harry J. Burns were married July 14, 1928, in Brown County. He died January 7, 1993.
She was graduated from the old Morgantown High School.
Mrs. Burns was a homemaker. She also helped her husband on the family farm.
She taught piano and organ lessons from her home for more than 50 years, retiring in 1989.
Mrs. Burns had been a member of the Morgantown First Christian Church since 1941.
She had been a member of the Morgantown Order of the Eastern Star for half a century.
Mrs. Burns also was a member of the Indianapolis White Shrine, Jerusalem Valley.
Survivors include a grandson, Todd Burns of Morgantown, her daughter-in-law, Pat Burns of Morgantown; a granddaughter, Tori Hamilton of Morgantown; two great-granddaughters, Megan Burns and Kylee Hamilton, both of Morgantown; and two great-grandsons, Korbin Hamilton and Austin Burns, both of Morgantown.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
The Reverend Burt Brock conducted a service Thursday, September 10, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community's East Hill Cemetery.

Carrie Clayburn
Trafalgar area resident Carrie Ann Clayburn died Monday, September 7, 1998, at a home in northwestern Brown County. She was 18.
Her death is being investigated by the Brown County Sheriff's Department, although no foul play is suspected.
Miss Clayburn was born February 3, 1980, in Franklin. Her father and step-mother are Myles and Linda Clayburn of Trafalgar. The youth's mother is Sheila Short Clayburn of Trafalgar.
Miss Clayburn was graduated from Indian Creek High School in 1998. She had enrolled in horticulture classes at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.
She had been a member of the Udders Up 4-H Club for nine years. She was a 4-H Junior Leader for four years.
During her career in 4-H, Miss Clayburn had earned many awards including showmanship and grand champion goat awards.
In high school, she was active in Sunshine Society, National Honor Society and Drug Free Club.
She was also a member of the school's chapter of Future Farmers of America for four years. During that time, she held positions as treasurer and reporter.
At the end of her high school years, she was awarded several scholarships.
Miss Clayburn attended Trafalgar Christian Church Youth Group and was involved with roadside clean-up for the Morgantown Merchants Association.
Miss Clayburn had worked part-time at Trafalgar Family Restaurant, Trafalgar Grocery and Trafalgar Subway.
A service was conducted Thursday, September 10, at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was at Johnson County's Nineveh Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the FFA Center, 6595 South County Road 125 West, Trafalgar, Indiana 46181.

Phillip Hardin
Nashville resident Phillip L. Hardin died Saturday, September 12, 1998, at his home. He was 56.
Mr. Hardin was born February 2, 1942, to Dewey and Mildred New Hardin.
His widow, Pat Hardin, survives in Brown County.
Mr. Hardin retired from Carpet World in Indianapolis.
He had also worked at RCA in Bloomington and Cummins Engine Company in Columbus.
Mr. Hardin was a member of Pine Grove Apostolic Church.
Other survivors include a son, Phillip L. Hardin Jr. of Bloomington; three daughters, Karen Richardson and Susan Richardson, both of Nashville and Tracy Leeper of Bloomington; a brother, Dewey Joe Hardin of Bloomington; three sisters, Joyce Grubb of Bloomington, Janet Williams of Ellettsville and Kathy Cunningham of Linton; seven grandchildren; and a caregiver, Bonnie Skirvin of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
The Reverend Dwight Harden led a service Tuesday, September 15, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Brown County's Green Valley Cemetery.

Helen Headley
Helen "Alice" Headley, the sister of Nashville resident Geneva McGuire, died Monday, September 7, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital.
A resident of Unionville, she was 75.
Mrs. Headley was born September 2, 1923, in Unionville to Court and Estella Peterson Young.
She was married to Robert H. Headley. He survives.
Mrs. Headley had worked on the assembly line at RCA in Bloomington before retiring.
She was a member of Unionville Church of Christ, Unionville Senior Citizens Club as well as sewing circles at the two organizations.
Other survivors include two daughters, Pat Salmon of Bloomington and Pam Leibowitz of Hampton, New Hampshire; three brothers, Leslie Young of Ellettsville, Maurice Young of Hardensburg and Willard Young of Richelle, Illinois; three other sisters, Coleen Krick of Leesburg, Florida, Jeannette Bates of Biloxi, Mississippi and Eleanor Tribby of Tucson, Arizona; and two granddaughters.
Allen Ketchersid and Russ Minett led a service Thursday, September 10, at Unionville Church of Christ.
Burial was in that community's Unionville Cemetery.
Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Kleindorfer
Brown County native Harold Kleindorfer died Friday, September 11, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital.
A resident of Ellettsville, he was 77.
Mr. Kleindorfer was born September 8, 1921, in Brown County to Ralph and Mabel Moore Kleindorfer.
He was married to Mary Frances Curry. She survives in Monroe County.
Before retiring, Mr. Kleindorfer had worked as a real estate broker at Lemon Real Estate and Doyle Franklin Real Estate. He had also owned a grocery store and worked nine years at General Electric.
Mr. Kleindorfer was a member of Ellettsville First United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include two sons, John Kleindorfer and Chris A. Kleindorfer, both of Ellettsville; two sisters, Erma Smart and Irene Beeler, both of DeLand, Florida; four brothers, Lester Kleindorfer, Eugene Kleindorfer and Clifford Kleindorfer, all of DeLand, Florida, and Kenneth Kleindorfer of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
The Reverend Ray New led a service Monday, September 14, at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville.
Burial was in Monroe County's Presbyterian Cemetery.

Dorothy Liles
Old State Road 46 resident Dorothy "Dottie" Coleman Liles died Monday afternoon, September 7, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 75.
Mrs. Liles was born July 1, 1923, in Indianapolis to Robert Lee Wilson Jr. and Mary Matlock Wilson.
She was married to Walter Liles. He survives in Nash-ville.
Mrs. Liles founded and managed High-point Kennels in Bruceville for 15 years.
She served as a WAVE during World War II, from 1944 until 1946.
Other survivors include three sons, Lance Coleman of Franklin, Greg Coleman of Indianapolis and Mark Coleman of Greenwood; a daughter, Dorothy Coleman Smith of Indianapolis; two step-sons, William Liles of Indianapolis and Charles Liles of Lawrenceville, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A service was conducted Friday afternoon, September 11, at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Humane Society, 128 State Road 135 South, Nashville, Indiana, 47448.

Millard McCarty Jr.
Brown County native Millard G. McCarty Jr. died Wednesday, September 9, 1998, in Ellettsville.
A resident of that city, he was 69.
Mr. McCarty was born October 6, 1928, in Helmsburg to Millard G. and Beulah Alice Mae Croley McCarty.
He had worked as a design engineer at General Electric in Shelbyville. Mr. McCarty had been a partner in Classic Bowling Lanes and Western Skateland, both in Bloomington.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. McCarty was a member of the Ellettsville United Methodist Church, Ellettsville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, both in Indianapolis, Monroe County Scottish Rite Club and Monroe County Flying Club.
Survivors include a son, Cullen H. McCarty of Ellettsville.
The Reverend P.T. Wilson and Reverend Rich Vawistoski led a service Saturday, September 12, at Ellettsville United Methodist Church.
Burial was in Shelby County's Fairland Cemetery.
Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville was in charge of arrangements.
