Gary Holstein
Former Brown County resident Gary Holstein died Monday, January 3, 2000, in California. A resident of San Carlos, California, he was 47.
He was born September 24, 1952, in Indianapolis to Curt and Mary Holstein. His parents survive in Greenwood.
He and Marilyn Anne Moores were married in June 1973, in Long Island, New York. She survives.
Mr. Holstein was graduated from Brown County High School in 1971. While in the local school, he was active on the basketball and wrestling teams. Mr. Holstein was named most valuable wrestler during the 1969-70 season.
He was a charter member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Velva R. Jacobs
Morgantown resident Velva R. Sherill Jacobs died Monday, January 2000, at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was 67.
She was born February 28, 1932, in Noblesville to Otlie A. and Gladys Snyder Sherrill.
She attended Tech High School in Indianapolis.
In 1954, she and Philip Goode were married. He preceded her in death in October 1962.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jacobs enjoyed painting, doing needlework and playing Euchre. She especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren.

Dale D. Love
Brown County native Dale D. Love died Tuesday evening, January 18, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Hope, he was 59.
Mr. Love was born March 9, 1940, in Nashville to James Alexander and Lula Gladys Davis Love.
He and Velva Allman were married March 26, 1961. She survives.
Mr. Love had formerly worked at Spartan Casket Company in Lynn.
He was an avid fisherman.

Jan Wills
Former Brown County resident and accomplished artist Jan Wills died Monday, January 3, 2000, in Galena, Illinois. He was 71.
A native of a farming region in Northern Illinois, Mr. Wills had been drawing and painting for many years before being admitted to the Art Institute of Chicago.
For 18 years, he worked as an advertising illustrator and later specialized in wildlife illustrations for textbooks including Encyclopedia Brittanica.
He had been a member of the Brown County Art Guild since 1980.

Betty J. Bucher
Grandma Barnes Road resident Betty J. Bucher died Monday morning, January 24, 2000, at her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Bucher was born June 17, 1921, in Indianapolis to Edwin E. Lay and Erma Lay.
She was married to Boyers Bucher. He survives in Nashville.

Ruth T. Collicott
Brown County Community Care Center resident Ruth T. Collicott died Monday afternoon, January 24, 2000, at the center in Salt Creek Park. She was 86.
Mrs. Collicott had lived in Greensburg before moving to Nashville.
She was born March 1, 1913, in Decatur County to Frank Tremain and Daisy Van Scyoc.
She and George V. Collicott were married October 6, 1940, in Franklin. He preceded her in death.

Myrtle M. Griffin
Brown County native Myrtle Marie Griffin died Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at her home in Solsberry. She was 83.
Mrs. Griffin was born May 7, 1916, in Gnaw Bone to Leonard and Lula Hardin Copenhaver.
She was married to Ralph Griffin. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Griffin had worked as a housekeeper at Howard Johnson’s before retiring.

James M. Hargis
Former Brown County resident James M. Hargis died Tuesday afternoon, January 25, 2000, at The Waters in Martinsville. A resident of that city since 1995, he was 78.
Mr. Hargis was born May 24, 1921, in Stanford, Kentucky to Nepolion and Maggie Baker Hargis.
He and Nellie Brown Carrier were married in October 1943. She died January 31, 1994.
Mr. Hargis had worked at Inland Container Box Factory in Indianapolis for 38 years, retiring in 1982.

Theodore Hoff
Theodore H. Hoff, the father of Brown County resident Harry Theodore Hoff, died Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. A resident of that city, he was 97.
Mr. Hoff was born July 24, 1902, in Hancock County to Christian T. and Bertha Prangle Hoff.
He and LaVerne Ruth Miller were married September 5, 1929. She survives.

Charles Hoffman
Charles Frederick "Chuck" Hoffman, the father of Morgantown area resident Annalee Dinn, died Friday, January 21, 2000, at Regency Place of Greenwood. A resident of that city, he was 84.
Mr. Hoffman was born December 17, 1915, in Indianapolis to Frederick Walter and Pearl Ethelyn Alderson Hoffman.
He and Sara E. Rigel were married January 9, 1936, in Greenfield. She died October 13, 1981. He and Louise Lasiter Lane were married April 17, 1982. She survives.

Ellen E. Moore
Sweetwater Lake resident Ellen Elisabeth Moore died Sunday, January 23, 2000, in Indianapolis. She was 82.
A Hartford City native, she was born August 12, 1917.
She and Chester "Chet" Moore were married in 1943. He died in 1988.

Ruth I. Peavler
Ruth Irene Kirsch Peavler died Monday, January 24, 2000, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. A resident of Bargersville, she was 74.
Mrs. Peavler left survivors in Brown County.
She was born June 4, 1925, in Indianapolis to Joseph W. and Bessie Mary Potter Kirsch.
She was married to Harry J. Reimer, Ber-nard Schmidt and Horace Peavler. They preceded her in death.

Michael Sartin
Former Brown County resident Michael Dwane Sartin died Sunday morning, January 30, 2000, at Bloomington Hospital. A resident of that city, he was 29.
Mr. Sartin was born March 4, 1970, in Lawrenceburg to Larry and Ramona Morris Sartin. His father survives in Bloomington.
His parents formerly owned and managed the Dairy Queen restaurant in Nashville and the Frosty Queen in Trafalgar.

Earl J. Ward
Former long-time Brown County resident Earl J. "Skipper" Ward died Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at Morgantown Health Care Center. He was 98.
Mr. Ward was born April 30, 1901, in Johnson County to Jack and Minnie Ratliff Ward.
He and Pearl O. Everling were married in May 1924. She died July 22, 1957.
Mr. Ward had worked for the Umphrey-Fawcett Chair Company in Morgantown for many years before it closed. He also had worked for the State Highway Department.

Gertrude J. Weber
County native Gertrude J. Reed Weber died Monday, January 24, 2000, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, she was 65.
Mrs. Weber was born January 7, 1935, in Brown County to James L. and Hilja Reed.
She was married to Gerald D. "Jerry" Weber. He survives in Marion County.
Mrs. Weber had worked as a warehouse prescriptions clerk for CVS, formerly Hook’s Drug Stores, for 23 years before retiring in 1998.

Freda D. Wright
Freda D. Firth Wright, the mother of Morgantown resident Doreen St. Clair, died Thursday, January 20, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Beech Grove. A resident of Indianapolis, she was 90.
Mrs. Wright was born March 3, 1909, in Sheffield, England to Walter and Elizabeth Hurst Firth.
She and Orville L. Wright were married June 19, 1928. He died in August 1969.
Mrs. Wright had worked as a retail manager for Smith Pharmacy. Before that, she worked as retail manager at Roehl Pharmacy in Southport for 16 years.

William Young
William N. Young, the father of Nashville resident Candy Ferree, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Franklin Meadows. A resident of that city, he was 66.
Mr. Young was born January 24, 1934, in Loogootee to William Keller and Esther Marie Nelson Young.
His former wife, Carole D. Young, survives in Johnson County.
Mr. Young had worked as a dispatcher for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

Helen M. Fleener
Helen M. Staley Fleener, the mother of Peoga resident Paul Fleener, died Friday, January 28, 2000, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. A resident of Franklin, she was 68.
Mrs. Fleener was born December 11, 1931, in Riley to John and Noma Orman Staley.
She and Larry Fleener were married April 27, 1955, in Franklin. He survives.
Mrs. Fleener was graduated from Riley High School.
She had worked for Standard Grocery for 20 years, retiring in December 1978.

Robert K. Morris
Morgantown resident Robert K. "Bob" Morris died Friday, January 28, 2000, at his home. He was 64.
Mr. Morris was born October 4, 1937, in Johnson County’s Union Township to Johnnie E. and Katherine Brown Morris.
He and Nancy J. Legan were married January 30, 1959, in Franklin. She survives.
Mr. Morris was graduated from Union Township High School in 1956 and had worked as a self-employed farmer.
He also owned and operated Morris Excavating Company for 40 years.
Mr. Morris had been a member of Christian Chapel Church in Morgantown for a number of years. He served the church as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He was a former chairman of the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Mr. Morris was elected outstanding conservation farmer in 1982 and 1983.
In addition, he was a member of Indiana Farmers Union of Johnson County, Farm Bureau Co-op and Franklin Young Farmers Club.

Vaughn Perry Sr.
Vaughn Edward Perry Sr. died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, he was 82.
Mr. Perry was born 1917, in Indianapolis to Joseph and Laura Bell Parmerlee Barnhill Perry.
His mother was a native of Brown County and in Mr. Perry’s childhood he regularly visited his grandfather’s farm on what is now Hicks Road in northern Brown County.
His wife, Irene Perry, survives in Marion County.
Mr. Perry had worked as a stock room attendant at ITT Hoffman for 36 years, retiring in 1978.
He had been a member of the Garfield Park United Church of Christ, Millersville Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.
