Robert Chasteen Sr.
Robert J. Chasteen Sr., the father of Nineveh area resident Albert G. Taylor, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of that city, he was 60.
Mr. Chasteen was born August 31, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Harry C. Chasteen and Bonita L. Lyon Salmon. His mother lives in Bedford.
He was married to Martha Jane Calhoun. She died in 1999.
Mr. Chasteen had worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 39 years, retiring in 1998.

Asbury "Mac" Hickman
Morgantown resident Asbury M. "Mac" Hickman died Monday, February 14, 2000, at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was 75.
Mr. Hickman was born November 16, 1924, in Noblesville to Harry M. and Bernice MacElvain Hickman.
He and Henrietta Miller were married September 29, 1951. She survives.
Mr. Hickman was graduated from Martinsville High School in 1942. He attended Auburn University and Indiana University.
He served in the 346th Infantry under General George S. Patton during World War II, seeing action in the European Theater and taking part in the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1956, Mr. and Mrs. Hickman settled in Orlando, Florida to work with the elder Mr. Hickman in making institutional casework. The business and the Hickmans relocated to Leesburg, Florida in 1958.
He had worked as an electrical engineer in the Rectifier Division of Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington.
Mr. Hickman was part of the launch team for the Apollo space flights from Kennedy Space Center, including the Apollo 11 flight in 1970. He also helped develop a power plant for the Jacksonville, Florida electric authority.

Evelyn J. Sealock
Evelyn J. Bevis Sealock, the sister of Nineveh area resident Francis E. Bevis, died Wednesday, February 2, 2000, at her home in Naples, Florida.
A native of Edinburgh, she was the daughter of William and Onna McKee Bevis.
She and Harold O. Sealock were married August 28, 1948, in Columbus. He died November 25, 1968.
Mrs. Sealock was a homemaker.
She was a member of North Naples United Methodist Church in Florida for more than 30 years. For two decades, Mrs. Sealock volunteered as the church’s membership secretary. She had also served on numerous church committees and had begun the Friendship Sunday school class.
A graduate of the old Nineveh High School, Mrs. Sealock attended Latter Day Saints Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ralph G. Shaull
Oak Grove Road resident Ralph G. Shaull died Wedneday morning, February 9, 2000, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 91.
Mr. Shaull was born August 4, 1908, in Eldorado, Illinois to William C. and Flora M. Shaull.
He and Muriel Rose were married in November 1983. She survives.
He had worked as a maintenance man for Butler University in Indianapolis.
Mr. Shaull was a member of Nashville Christian Church.

Freddie L. Stingley
Freddie Lynn Stingley died Tuesday morning, February 8, 2000, at his home on State Road 46. He was 44.
Mr. Stingley was born March 1, 1955, in Indianapolis to Fred Stingley Jr. and Bonnie G. Timmons Stingley. His mother survives.
Mr. Stingley had been employed in construction.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Benjamin Swopes
Benjamin R. Swopes died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis. A resident of Greenwood, he was 80.
Mr. Swopes left survivors in the Brown County area.
He was born July 21, 1919, in Brownsville, Texas to Joseph and Cynthia Carter Swopes.
He and Alma Roberts were married November 6, 1948. She survives.
Mr. Swopes had worked as a truck driver for Chevrolet Truck and Bus Division in Indianapolis for 19 years.
He had been a member of Lifegate Baptist Church in Beech Grove.
Mr. Swopes was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Duane Anthony
Former Brown County resident Duane Anthony died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of that city, he was 76.
Mr. Anthony was born February 19, 1923, in Sunman to Lowell Herbert and Elizabeth Veral Barker Anthony.
He and Marjorie L. Woltemade were married September 9, 1947, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She survives.
He received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Indiana University. Mr. Anthony attended continuing education classes at the University of South Dakota.
A retired educator, Mr. Anthony taught at the Indiana Boys School in Plainfield from 1949 until 1951.
He was teaching fifth grade at Ogilville in 1955 before moving to North Vernon High School, where he taught English and history classes.
Mr. Anthony later went to Columbus High School, where he taught such classes as psychology, social studies, social problems, adult education, English and was yearbook advisor.
He retired from Columbus East High School as a guidance counselor in 1985.

Vernon Breedlove
Vernon Lee Breedlove, the step-father of Nashville resident Mary Ann Thompson, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at his home in Paragon. He was 73.
Mr. Breedlove was born June 5, 1926, in Bloomington to William R. and Sally Marie Deckard Breedlove.
His companion of 25 years, Shirley J. Whitaker, died last December.
Mr. Breedlove had worked at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis for more than 25 years, retiring in the 1970s.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.

Micholas Clarke
Micholas A. "Bud" Clarke, the half-brother of Morgantown resident Roy Trout, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. A resident of Clay City, he was 71.
Mr. Clarke was born May 23, 1928, in Peoria, Illinois to John Clarke and Laura Redman Clarke Trout.
His widow, Nancy L. Clarke, survives.
Mr. Clarke had worked at Asplundh Tree Trimming before retiring.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Buck George
Robert Franklin "Buck" George, the brother of Morgantown resident Alice Lambert, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at his home in Bloomington. He was 59.
Mr. George was born April 23, 1940, in Jackson County to Stacey and Marvel Chandler George.
He had worked as an auto mechanic.
Mr. George was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Frederick Haines
Frederick "Fred" Samuel Haines of Trafalgar died Saturday, February 19 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. He was 47.
Mr. Haines was born March 24, 1952 to Hayden and Doris M. (Wilson) Haines. His father survives.
A heavy equipment operator, Mr. Haines was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #103 for 24 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and he enjoyed working on Harley motorcycles.

Charles Harvey
Charles W. Harvey, the half brother of Nashville resident Curtis Gritton, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at his residence in Greenwood.
A former resident of Indianapolis, Mr. Harvey was 66.
He was born May 24, 1933, in Indianapolis to Onan Charles and Eunice Irene Gritton Harvey.
A truck driver, Mr. Harvey was employed by Middle West Trucking and a member of Teamsters Local Union 135.
He also was a United States Army Veteran.

Mary Henderson
Mary E. Behrman Henderson died Saturday, February 12, 2000, at University Heights Nursing Home in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, she was 83.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Henderson was born August 16, 1916.

Shirley Piper
Brown County Community Care Center resident Shirley E. Piper died Wednesday, February 16, 2000, at the center in Salt Creek Park. She was 64.
Mrs. Piper was born October 5, 1935, in Indianapolis to William G. Downing and Eunice E. Whitley.
She was married to Glenden R. Piper. He died in 1987.
Mrs. Piper had worked in retail services, retiring in June 1991.
She had been a member of New Life Community Church.

Elbert Robertson
County native Elbert Lee "Pete" Robertson died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at his home in Franklin. He was 66.
Mr. Robertson was born March 17, 1933, in Brown County to Roy and Odessa Terrill Robertson.
He was married to Karen Phelps in July 1972. She survives in Johnson County.
Mr. Robertson had worked at Arvin Automotive in Franklin for 44 years, retiring in 1995.
He attended Calvary Christian Church at Edinburgh.

Vivian M. Sharp
Vivian Marie Sharp, the great-granddaughter of Nashville resident Mary Roberts, was stillborn Tuesday evening, February 15, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Vivian was the daughter of Mark E. Sharp and Tammy J. Roberts, both of rural Bartholomew County.

Morris R Smith
Morris R. Smith, the brother of Nashville resident Marzella Doty, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at his home in Columbus. He was 64.
Mr. Smith was born February 15, 1935, in Washington County to Chester A. and Mary M. Crawhorn Smith.
He had worked at Stone Container for 20 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. Smith was a member of New Hope Brethren Church in Seymour.
He was a United States Army Veteran.

Everett Young
Everett "Art" Young died Monday, February 15, 2000, at his Indianapolis home. He was 77.
Mr. Young was born April 15, 1922, in Morgan County to Ormer and Ellen R. Fishel Young.
He and Norma R. McGuire were married October 30, 1943, in Monroe County. She survives.
Mr. Young had worked as an electrical engineer for Naval Avionics in Indianapolis for 34 years before retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Brown County’s Bear Creek Christian Church, Greenwood Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Mr. Young was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and was discharged from the military in 1946.
