Linda Lawrence
Morgantown resident Linda Sue Moss Lawrence died Wednesday, August 12, 1998, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was 52.
She had lived in Morgantown since 1981. Before that she had lived in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Law-rence was born January 22, 1946, in Ind-ianapolis to Wade and Kath-leen Hatcher Henry. Her mother survives in Morgantown.
She and Robert D. Lawrence were married August 23, 1997, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He survives.
Mrs. Lawrence was a homemaker. She was graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis in 1963.
She had worked as a bakery-deli clerk at Morgantown IGA for two years.
Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed flower gardening and fishing.
Other survivors include a son, Mike Moss of New Whiteland; and a granddaughter, Janelle Micole Moss.
Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her father in 1987.
Pastor Fred Henschen led a service Saturday, August 15, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community's East Hill Cemetery.

Helen A. Swartz
Former Brown County resident Helen Allison Swartz died Wednesday, August 5, 1998, at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima, Ohio.
A resident of Wapakoneta, Ohio, she was 97.
Mrs. Swartz was born November 27, 1900, in Brown County to James Elmer and Grace Percifield Allison.
She and Ernest Swartz were married May 2, 1946. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Swartz was graduated from Nashville High School in 1919.
She was the granddaughter of Alonzo Allison. Mr. Allison was the editor and publisher of The Brown County Democrat from 1885 until 1926.
Her great-grandfather, George W. Allison, founded the newspaper.
Mrs. Swartz is survived by several cousins in Indiana and Ohio.
Following cremation, graveside services were held Wednesday, August 12, at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio.

Lillian Wirey
Brown County native Lillian Wirey died Tuesday afternoon, August 11, 1998, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A resident of Edinburgh, she was 93.
Miss. Wirey was born February 7, 1905, in Brown County to William and Emma Wray Wirey.
She was graduated from Edinburgh High School in 1924.
Miss Wirey had worked in the payroll department at Amos Thompson Corporation in Edinburgh until retiring in 1970.
She was a member of Edinburgh First Christian Church and Franklin Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Alexander of Hope and Violet Hinkle of Greenburg.
Miss Wirey was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.
The Reverend Sam Gambrel led a service Friday, August 14, in Edinburgh's Rest Haven Cemetery.
Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Connor
Kenneth Connor, the brother of State Road 46 resident Tom Connor, died Thursday, August 6, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was 66.
Mr. Connor moved from Nashville to North Vernon in 1972.
He was born in Indianapolis June 3, 1932 to William Harry and Dora Mae Huntington Connor.
Other survivors include two daughters, Liana Davis of Jeffersonville and Nancy Ann; two sons, John Connor of North Vernon and Joseph Connor of Bloomington; another brother, Larry Connor of Texas; a sister, Jean West of Morgantown; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Duane Connor; and a grandchild.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Connor worked as a retired general drilling blaster. He also was a member of First Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building
The Reverend Riley Walker conducted a funeral at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Home in North Vernon.
Burial was at the Vernon Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Jerry D. Harden
Jerry D. Harden died Tuesday, August 4, 1998, at the Brown County Community Care Center. He was 55.
He was born November 27, 1942 in Columbus to Mary Harden.
Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Mitchell of North Carolina and Josette Harden of Kentucky; two sons, Roger Harden and Tim Harden, both of Nashville; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, August 6, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was at Green Valley Cemetery.

Ada A. Allen
Brown County native Ada Adeline "Granny" Allen died Tuesday morning, September 15, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove.
A resident of Martinsville, she was 89.
Mrs. Allen was born April 14, 1909, in Brown County to William Albert Voorheis and Anna Marie Schmidt Voorheis.
She and Charles Floyd Allen were married May 8, 1927. He died August 26, 1987.
Mrs. Allen had lived in Morgan County for 73 years.
She was a co-owner of Allen and Richardson Seeds and Plants in Martinsville.
Mrs. Allen was a member of First Christian Church in Martinsville.
She was a former member of the Morgan County Memorial Hospital Guild.
Mrs. Allen enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and raising chickens.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Rose Barlow, Jennie Marie Smith and Barbara Jean Richardson, all of Martinsville; two sons, Floyd Franklin "Frank" Allen of Paragon and William Clark "Bill" Allen of Martinsville; a brother, Albert Voorheis of Martinsville; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons; seven brothers, James Voorheis, Wade Voorheis, Henry Voorheis, Harvey Voorheis, Charles Voorheis, Fred Voorheis and Ernest Voorheis; and five sisters, Anna Voorheis, Margaret Voorheis, Carolyn Voorheis, Emma McDaniel and Ida Poole.
A service was conducted Thursday, September 17, at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville.
Burial was in that city's New South Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brown County's Bear Creek Church.

Bertha M. Burge
Bertha M. Burge died Tuesday, September 15, 1998, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
A resident of Greenwood, she was 92.
Mrs. Burge was born May 24, 1906, in Brown County to John and Abby Stretchberry White.
She and Joseph C. Burge were married January 14, 1927, in Shelbyville. He died June 6, 1995.
Mrs. Burge had worked in the cafeteria at School 21 in Indianapolis for 21 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce J. Trice of Greenwood; three sons, Joseph C. Burge of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, John R. Burge of Greenwood and Donald L. Burge of Russell, Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Burge; four brothers, George White, Lawrence White, Henry White and Ralph White; and two sisters, Jesse Hestand and Goldie Bullock.
Pastor Kevin Hall led a service Saturday, September 19 in Johnson County's Greenwood Cemetery.
Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory's Greenwood Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Charity Burris
Charity R. Burris, the mother of Nineveh area resident Charles Penn, died Saturday, September 19, 1998, at her home in Williams. She was 98.
Mrs. Burris was born September 15, 1900, in Kentucky to John Martin and Louise Halsey Rose.
She first married Calvin Penn. He preceded her in death. Her second husband, Guy Ray, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Burris was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon Ray of Brownsburg and Peggy Thorp of Williams; three other sons, Walter Penn and Ross Marcel Penn, both of Speedway and Warren Penn of Indianapolis; 21 grandchildren; and 68 great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Pastor John Dodd and the Reverend Glenn Duncan conducted a service Tuesday, September 22, at First Assembly of God Church in Bedford.
Burial was at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Indianapolis.
Day and Carter Mortuary in Bedford was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd D. David
Brown County native Floyd Duane David died Friday, September 18, 1998, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
A resident of that city, he was 81.
Mr. David was born September 24, 1916, in Brown County to Ralph and Eva Frownfelter David.
He and Marie Emma Rodewig were married December 13, 1945, in Jeffersonville. She survives in Johnson County.
Mr. David was graduated from Helmsburg High School in 1936.
He had worked in the tool and die making industry for a total of 55 years, retiring in 1991.
More recently he had worked as a tool and die maker at Franklin for 15 years.
Mr. David had also worked at Chrysler Motors in Indianapolis for two years; Allisons in Indianapolis for two years; Shaffer Tool and Die for two years; Setser Machine in Franklin for 15 years and Bob Holbrook Manufacturing in Franklin for 10 years.
He was a member of Amity Baptist Church, where he had served as trustee for 20 years. Mr. David was also a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge and Franklin Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Other survivors include a daughter, Virginia Freeman of Hartsville, Tennessee; a niece, Linda White of Greenwood; a nephew, Roger David of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Earl David; and a sister, Mabel Lonyo.
The Reverend Ron Ellis led a service Monday, September 21, at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was in that city's Greenlawn Cemetery.

William Gardner
Brown County resident William Robert Gardner died Tuesday, September 15, 1998, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 66.
Mr. Gardner was born March 6, 1932, in Indianapolis to Odus E. and Myrtle Ruth Patterson Gardner.
He and Virretta McNeely were married November 24, 1950, in Indianapolis. She survives.
He was graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis in 1950.
Mr. Gardner had worked as a warehouse foreman for Reel Pipe and Valve Company in Indianapolis for 29 years, retiring in March 1996.
He was a member of Cottonwood Christian Church in Jackson Township.
Mr. Gardner had been scoutmaster of Cottonwood Church Boy Scout Troop 94.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Gardner served as a corporal in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and retired to the Marine Reserve in 1952.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert L. Gardner and James D. Gardner, both of Brown County; four daughters, Delores A. Long, Barbara L. Rodgers and Lori Mathis, all of Brown County, and Tina Unger of Franklin; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Springer of Sagus, California and Ruth Price of Odesa, Florida.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Odus Gardner and William Robert Gardner Jr.; and a brother, Albert Leon Gardner.
The Reverend Ray Unger conducted a service Friday, September 18, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Jackson Township's Oak Ridge Cemetery.
