Howard Morgan
Howard Anderson "Pop" Morgan, the brother of Morgantown resident Althea Callon, died Thursday, September 14, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
A resident of Franklin, he was 51.
Mr. Morgan was born July 4, 1949, in Franklin to Fred and Alberta (Starling) Morgan. They both preceded him in death.
A truck driver for more than 25 years, Mr. Morgan had attended Franklin Community High School.
He and his family attended Christ Fellowship Christian Church in Whiteland.
Mr. Morgan was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Other survivors include his fiance, Becky Bennett; three sons, Kevin Mederios, Mark Morgan and Tim Morgan, all of Franklin; a brother, James Robert Morgan of Washington D.C.; a sister, Nancy Sweeney of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
A sister, Juanita Hash, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.
Bessie O. Nichols
Needmore native Bessie O. Nichols died Monday, September 18,m 2000, at University Heights Convalescent Center. A resident of Indianapolis, She was 79.
She was born August 24, 1921, in Needmore to Artie V. and Amanda Belle (Fleener) Fleener.
She was graduated from Helmsburg High School in 1939.
She and Lester F. Nichols were married October 30, 1945, in Jeffersonville. He preceded her in death May 14, 1997.
A homemaker, Mrs. Nichols also had worked at St. Francis Hospital during the 1960s and at Dadge Electric in Indianapolis during the 1950s.
She had served with the US Army in the women’s Army Corp during World War II.
Mrs. Nichols loved being with her family and flower gardening.
Survivors include a son, William D. Nichols of Beech Grove; a daughter, Judie E. Schmidt of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Penny Dillon, Ron Inabnit, David Nichols, Tim Nichols and Amanda Schmidt; four great-grandchildren; and a brother Daniel "Boone" Fleener of Martinsville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin "Bud" Fleener and Charles Fleener; and four sisters, Mary Cross, Dora Long, Hallie Merriman and Pearl McKee.
Reverend John Parsley officiated a service Thursday, September 21, at Meredith Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Brown County’s Bear Creek Cemetery.

Joyce Pfenning
Brown County native Joyce Pfenning died Saturday, September 23, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Seymour. A resident of Norman, she was 88.
Mrs. Pfenning had been ill for several months.
She was born February 19, 1912, in Brown County, the daughter of Isaac and Bertha Harrell Hall.
She married Royd Fleetwood in March 1932, in Jackson County. He died August 6, 1960.
She then married Leslie Pfenning August 19, 1964. He died December 5, 1989.
Mrs. Pfenning was a member of Driftwood Christian Church in Vallonia.
Survivors include a son, Carroll Fleetwood of Columbus; a daughter, Phyllis Fleetwood Sherrill of Norman; a step-daughter, Geneva DeBell of Elliottsville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Hall, and a sister, Grace Deckard.
Reverend Thomas Cash will officiate a service this afternoon, Wednesday, September 27, at Spurgeon Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Kurtz Cemetery.
Louise E. Rueter
Louise Elizabeth Rueter, the mother of Nashville resident Loren D. Rueter, died Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at Seymour’s Memorial Hospital. A resident of Brownstown, she was 87.
She was born June 10, 1913, in Vallonia to William and Carrie Peters Shoemaker.
She married Martin H. Rueter October 15, 1939, in Trinity Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death May 21, 1989.
A homemaker and former clerk at the Vallonia Post Office, Mrs. Rueter was graduated from Vallonia High School.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and the 60+ Fellowship. She also had been a Sunday school teacher at the church.
Other survivors include two stepgrandchildren, Becky and Steven Goebel, both of Crothersville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Hackman; an infant brother; a niece and a nephew.
The Reverend Daniel O’Connor officiated a service Saturday, September 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hour or the donor’s choice of charities.
Mary Waggoner
Mary Kathleen Waggoner, died Saturday, September 23, 2000, at the Brown County Community Care Center. A resident of Columbus, she was 78.
She was born October 9, 1921, in Seymour to Ervin and Mary Schrink Baker.
She and Carl E. Waggoner were married January 31, 1942, in Seymour. He died June 30, 1995.
A homemaker, Mrs. Waggoner was employed at the former Roviar Shirt Factory in Columbus and Reliance Shirt Factory in Seymour.
She was a member of East Columbus Christian Church and was active in the Democratic Party in Bartholomew County.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy K. Taylor of Oceanside, California, and Yvonne W. Franz of Columbus; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma June Reichenba.
Jerry Langley and the Reverend Barbara J. Grace officiated a service Tuesday, September 26, at Reed and Jewell Chapel in Columbus.
Burial was in that community’s Garland Brook Cemetery.
Clara Baringer
Clara Ellen Baringer, the aunt of Nashville resident Carolyn Nieman, died Tuesday, October 3, 2000, in Scottsburg. She was 96.
Miss Baringer was born in Crothersville January 14, 1905, the daughter of David Ephriam and Anna Elizabeth Peters Baringer.
She was a teacher in the Crothersville school system for 50 years, missing just one day of school in her career.
She lived in Crothersville until three years ago and was a former member and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church.
Miss Baringer also was a member of Jackson County Homemakers and Retired Teachers Association.
Other survivors include nephews Harlan Gillaspy and Berton Briner, both of Crothersville, John Gillaspy of Austin, Ephriam Briner of Austin and David E. Huff of Heltonville; and nieces Ruth Grossman of Brownstown, Marjorie Schulmei-ster and Rosalie Ruthledge of Danville, Marietta Combs of Three Rivers, Michigan, Shirley Ratts of Germantown and Roberta M. Bishoff of Winamac.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Etta Gillaspy, Minnie Schulmeister, Lula Briner, Flora Jackson and Berta May Huff; two nephews, Dale Gillaspy, Edward Briner and Curtis Briner; and a niece, Mary Anna Huff.
Reverend David Schill officiated a service Saturday, October 7, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial was in Crothersville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of the Crothersville Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Marguerite F. Brown
Nashville resident Marguerite F. (Crabb) Brown died Saturday, September 30. She was 91.
She was born December 5, 1908, in Pontiac, Illinois, the daughter of Walter J. and Eva (Asper) Crabb.
She married William R. Brown. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brown was secretary to the Vice President of Disciples of Christ Church from 1950 until 1973.
She was a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Strange of Nashville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 4 p.m. this afternoon, Wednesday, October 4, at Irvington Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis.
Shirley Brothers Mortuaries in Indianapolis was in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Martin
Dog Trot Lane resident Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Martin died Wednesday, October 4, 2000. She was 42.
She was born October 10, 1957, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Robert M. and Carol J. (McGannon) Scheidt. Her father survives.
Mrs. Martin was graduated from Scecina High School in Indianapolis in 1975.
She and Wayne A. Martin were married August 5, 1995, in Covington. He survives.
From 1980 until 1994 Mrs. Martin worked at Kroger in Bloomington, where she was a union steward.
She had also been a homemaker and, along with her husband, owned and operated Log Homes by Martin.
Mrs. martin was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 700.
Active in the Helmsburg School PTO, Mrs. Martin had volunteered at the school, serving for several years as a room mother.
She enjoyed children, genealogy, camping and doing crafts.
Other survivors include a son, Anthony R. Martin of Morgantown; a sister, Rhonda Shinnamon of Greenwood and two brothers, Robert D. Scheidt of Vega, Texas and David M. Scheidt of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jay T. Scheidt, in 1992.
A funeral was held Saturday, October 7, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. Cremation followed the service with interment at Anderson Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Elma Moore
Nashville resident Elma (Bright) Moore died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at the Brown County Community Care Center.
She was 103.
Mrs. Moore was born October 3, 1897, in Mount Liberty, the daughter of Oddy and Frances (Stitt) Bright.
She married Harold Moore. He preceded her in death September 24, 1970.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Nashville Christian Church.
Mrs. Moore also was a member of Eastern Star, Pleasant Valley Home Economic Club and the historical society.
Survivors include four sons, Merril L. Moore of North Vernon, E. Keith Moore of Columbus, Loren R. Moore of Nashville and H. Ray Moore of Cortland; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Reverend Tim Bond officiated a service Saturday, October 7, at Nashville Christian Church.
Burial was in Nashville’s Greenlawn Cemetery.
Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Christian Church or the organization of the donor’s choice.
Sharon M. Skinner
Sharon M. (Ziegler) Skinner, a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, died Sunday, October 8, 2000. A resident of Bartholomew County, she was 60.
Mrs. Skinner was born January 11, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Albert John and Katherine (Kane) Ziegler. They both preceded her in death.
She married Frederick Skinner. He survives.
A past regent of Catholic Daughters, she was a member of Daughters of Isabella and C.A.S.A., a children’s advocacy group in Bartholomew County.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sandy Spencer of North Vernon and Pam Hynes of Columbus; four sons, Albert Skinner of Nashville, Phillip Skinner of Westport and Martin and Donald Skinner, both of Columbus; a sister, Sandy Tankersley of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Father Bill Stumpf will officiate a service at 10 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, October 11, at St. Agnes Church.
Burial was in Nashville’s Greenlawn Cemetery.
Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to C.A.S.A., or Hospice of Bartholomew County.
