Helen Wendling
Helen Wendling, the mother of Nashville resident Kenneth D. Wendling, died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at her residence in Seymour.
A longtime resident of Indianapolis, Mrs. Wendling, 82, had been ill for four years.
She was born August 16, 1918, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Ernest and Kathrina (Jung) Stoll.
She married Donald Russell Wendling in Greenfield, on March 9, 1940. He died September 22, 1984.
Other survivors include two sons, Donald Robert "Butch" Wendling and John David Wendling, both of Seymour; four daughters, Judy Ann Newlin of Martinsville, Nancy Schofner of Fishers, Kathy Dunn of Columbus and Sandy Thoele of Seymour; a sister, Isabelle Simmons of Indianapolis; a grandson and caregiver, Eric Wayt of Seymour; 19 other grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The Reverend Eric Wayt officiated a service Wednesday, February 28, at Voss and Sons Funeral Home in Seymour.
Burial was in that community’s Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the caregiver, American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Christine Allender
Branstetter Road resident Christine Dempsy Allender died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at her residence. She was 76.
She was born December 18, 1924, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph Patrick and Helen (McGrath) Dempsy.
She married Richard "Bill" Allender January 1, 1942. He died December 23, 1999.
Mrs. Allender had been a homemaker, and worked alongside her husband on the family’s farm.

Robert Day
Robert Ernest Day, the brother of Brown County resident William E. Day, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his residence in Indianapolis. He was 71.
He was born July 29, 1929, in Indianapolis, the son of Ernest and Alberta Edith (Jacobs) Day.
He married Grace Anne Westcott. She survives.
A veteran, Mr. Day served in the United States Army.

Rosella Essex
Rosella Noah Essex, the grandmother of Nashville resident Mary Katherine Lucas, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope. She was 92.
She was born January 24, 1909 in Decatur County to Edward and Eva Fetter Noah.
She and George O. Essex were married April 15, 1933. He died in 1987.
Mrs. Essex had worked in the cafeteria at Cummins Engine Company from 1955 until 1965, and was a member of Hope First Baptist Church.
She also was a member of Columbus Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of Hawcreek Home Extension Club.

James Howard
James Thomas "Dr. Jim" Howard, the uncle of Brown County residents Bill and Andy Howard, died Saturday, March 10, 2001. A resident of Bloomington, he was 65.
Mr. Howard was born in Hammond on November 26, 1935, to Dr. William Harry and Thelma Simmons Howard.
He was a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.
Mr. Howard attended Tennessee Military Institute, Hanover College, and had graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1961. He was a captain in the United States Air Force Medical Corps in Altus, Oklahoma, from 1966 to 1968.

Demon McCloud
Demon Ray McCloud, the brother of Gnaw Bone resident Bob McCloud, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. A resident of Bloomington, he was 51.
Mr. McCloud had been a brick mason for Willard Stewart in Bloomington.
Other survivors include four sisters, Sandra J. Skinner of Bloomfield, Judy Taylor and Patty Frye, both of Bloomington, and Betsy Dike of Ellettsville; and a brother, Don McCloud of Owensburg.

Simon Reskin
Nashville Resident Simon Reskin died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Reskin was born September 15, 1911, the son of Max and Yetta Reskin.
He married Joyce Canter. She survives in Nashville.
He had worked at Bloomington Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1988.

Betty D. Brown
Helmsburg native Betty D. Brown died Monday, March 19, 2001, at the Midtown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis. A resident of Trafalgar, she was 74.
Mrs. Brown was born in Helmsburg September 20, 1926, the daughter of Verlis L. and Gladys Viola (Siscoe) Walker.
She was graduated from Helmsburg High School in 1944.
She married Delbert E. "Bud" Brown in Bedford June 28, 1952. He survives.

William Giles
William Cecil Giles, the father of Nineveh resident Ronald Lee Giles, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky.
A resident of Edmonton, Kentucky, he was 76.
Mr. Giles was born April 19, 1924, the son of Luther and Nora Giles.
He married Bertha Burton. She preceded him in death. He then married Dular Judd. She survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Giles had earned a Purple Heart.

Eva Gillian
Nashville resident Eva M. (Souders) Gillian died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Brown County Community Care Center. She was 95.
Mrs. Gillian was born April 8, 1905, in Monroe County.
She had been a decorator at Sears Roebuck for 27 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Bennett of Bear Wallow Road; a grandson, Greg Bennett of Nashville; a granddaughter, Susan Bennett of Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Joyce Hegg
Webber Hill Road resident Joyce H. Hegg died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home. She was 62.
She was born July 21, 1938, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Carlton Burt and Edith Hazel (Read) Boller.
She married John F. Hegg December 2, 1961, in Phoenix, Arizona. He survives.
A graduate of Helmsburg High School, Mrs. Hegg was a member of St. Martin’s Cath-olic Church in Martinsville.

Harmon R. Hollett
Harmon R. Hollett, the father of Morgantown resident Gary C. Hollett, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, Florida. He was 69.
He was born in Indianapolis January 12, 1932, the son of the late Harmon Bob and Barbara M. (Rapp) Hollett.
A member of the Indiana National Guard, Mr. Hollett was graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1950, and had attended Butler University.

Richard Irvin
Bittersweet Road resident Richard "Rick" Irvin died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at his home. He was 56.
He was born October 19, 1944, in Vincennes, the son of the late Harley and Frances Irvin.
A United States Army veteran, Mr. Irvin had worked for the Indiana State Police for 27 years, and was a member of the Indiana State Police Alliance.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammi Landry of Berkley, Michigan, and Jan-Elizabeth Irvin of Fortville; a sister, Sandy Irvin of West Lafayette; and two brothers, Harley Irvin Jr. and Carl Irvin, both of Vincennes.

Russell M. Sibley
Russell M. Sibley, the stepfather of Walls Road resident Carolyn Bates, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester.
Mr. Sibley, 79, had been in ill health for several months.
He was born May 1, 1921, in Fowler, New York, the son of Russell S. and Carrie Bachus Sibley.
He married Ruth Platt September 3, 1956. She survives in Winchester.

Dorothy Wilson
Cordry Lake resident Dorothy Marcile (Wolfe) Worland Wilson died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a cerebral hemorrhage. She was 85.
She married Edward J. Wilson. He survives.
Mrs. Wilson had been a homemaker, and was a member of Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church.

Robert Junior Worthy
Robert Junior Worthy, the father of Nineveh resident David M. Worthy, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
A resident of Greenwood, he was 77.
Mr. Worthy was born October 31, 1923, in Bruce, Mississippi, to Robert and Anny Mae (Lancaster) Worthy.
He attended Calhoun County, Mississippi, schools, and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 2079 in Greenwood.

Donald Carmichael
Donald W. "Donnie" Carmichael died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Carmel.
A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 36.
Mr. Carmichael was born in Brown County on September 21, 1964, to Robert Lee and Thelma Irene (Kritzer) Carmichael. His father survives in Columbus.
He married Sharon Cain November 16, 1996, in Columbus. She survives.
A truck driver for Frontier Transport in Indianapolis, Mr. Carmichael attended Brown County High School.

Martha Jane Jackson
Martha Jane (Bond) Jackson died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at her residence in Anderson, leaving relatives in Brown County. She was 81.
Mrs. Jackson was born November 23, 1919, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Glenn and Gwen (Hopper) Bond.
She was graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.
She married Robert E. Jackson March 6, 1943, in Indianapolis. He died October 26, 1984.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jackson was a member of Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Anderson, where she was one of the first women to serve as an elder.

Clovis Schrougham
Brown County native Clovis C. Schrougham died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Paris Memorial in Franklin. A resident of Needham, he was 87.
Mr. Schrougham was born August 7, 1913, the son of Omar and Alta (Clark) Schrougham.
He married Helen Louise Condon April 20, 1936, in Marion County. She survives.
He worked as a maintenance man for Franklin Farm Bureau Co-op for 25 years and had been a farmer for 20 years.

Mir A. F. Siddiq
Former Nashville resident Dr. Mir A. F. Siddiq died Monday, March 26. He was 66.
Mr. Siddiq was born July 15, 1934 in Kabul Afghanistan.
He was educated in England, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and received his Doctorate of Education from Indiana University.
Mr. Siddiq was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Education Fraternity.
