Pearl Stanley
Brown County native Pearl Mabel Stanley died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus. A resident of that city, she was 85.
Mrs. Stanley was born June 16, 1915, to David W. and Evalina David Smith.
She married Meredith E. Stanley June 18, 1055, in Columbus. He died November 27, 1980.
A member of the Diesel Workers Union, Mrs. Stanley was retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1974.
David Turner
Annandale Drive resident David Lynn Turner died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 65.
He was born September 24, 1935, in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Donald and Katherine (Lunger) Turner.
He married S. Jeanne Dragoo. She survives.
Mr. Turner was a retired Naval Junior ROTC Instructor and Mooseheart High School.
Eileen Williams
Eileen A. Williams, the mother of Nashville resident A. Thomas Williams, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001. A resident of Valparaiso, she was 75.
Other survivors include a son, James G. Williams of Valparaiso; a brother, J. Patrick Maloney of Crown Point; and a sister, Mary Jean Maloney of Katy, Texas.
Lowell Deckard
Lowell Raymond Deckard, the father of Brown County resident David Deckard, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his son’s residence in Ellettsville.
A resident of that city, he was 85.
Wanetta Henderson
Wanetta A. Henderson, the mother of Nashville resident Unice L. Swafford, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill, Florida. A resident of Brooksville, Florida, she was 77.
Mrs. Henderson was born February 23, 1924, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Thurman and Minnie Martin Reed.
She married John L. Henderson October 2, 1941. He died March 16, 1977.
Frances Hoefling
Frances Jane Hoefling, mother of Timbercrest Road resident Melvin Hoefling, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Forest Creek Manor in Indianapolis. A resident of that city, she was 90.
Mrs. Hoefling was a baker and cook at Howe High School and Ford Motor Company cafeterias in Indianapolis. She retired in 1974.
She was a member of Woodside Methodist Church.
Drucilla Asher
Drucilla J. Asher died Friday, May 4, 2001, at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, leaving survivors in Brown County. A resident of Bartholomew County, she was 78.
She was born June 6, 1922, in Hyden, Kentucky to Monroe and Bessie (Feltner) Couch.
She and Johnny Asher were married March 8, 1946, in Columbus. He survives.
Mrs. Asher had been a homemaker.
James Giger
James O. Giger, the father of Hoover Road resident Teresa Southerland, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. A resident of Spencer, he was 72.
Mr. Giger was born October 14, 1928, in Franklin, the son of Marcus T. and Julia (Small) Giger.
He and Gloria Rugenstein were married. She survives.
A member of Masonic Lodge 132, and F&AM in Cloverdale, Mr. Giger attended Cataract Baptist Church in Cataract.
Welba Hadley
Welba "Webb" Hadley, the step-father of Nashville resident Terry Crawford, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. A resident of Franklin, he was 79.
He was born November 24, 1921, in Russell Springs, Kentucky to Robert and Anna Willan Hadley.
He and Sue Jenkins were married. She survives.
Mr. Hadley had owned and operated Webb Hadley Motor Sales in Franklin from 1977 until his retirement in 1993.
Prior to that, Mr. Hadley had been a car salesman for Jarvis Alexander and Owen Reed Chevrolet dealership in Franklin.
Velma Kinser
Velma Kinser, the mother of Scarce-O-Fat Ridge Road resident Faye Todd, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Bloomington. She was 86.
She was born July 8, 1914, in Monroe County, the daughter of Perry and Etta (Glascoe) Smith.
She and Zorn Kinser were married. He preceded her in death.
A member of Sanders Pentecostal Church, Mrs. Kinser had worked as a custodian at Indiana University.
Maynard Newlin
Maynard "Rex" Newlin died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Todd Aikens Health Center in Franklin, leaving survivors in the county. A resident of Trafalgar, he was 80.
Mr. Newlin was born March 20, 1921, in Dana, the son of Elver R. and Julia Agnes (Hunt) Newlin.
He was graduated from Vellmore High School in 1939.
He first married Mavis Spring and she died in 1950.
Nellie Ramsey
Nellie Winifred Ramsey died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the Brown County Community Care Center. She was 85.
She was born December 23, 1915, in Clinton, Illinois, the daughter of Harley and Helen (Jackson) Parris.
She was graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and attended Taylor University in Upland.
Lester Roberts
Long-time Gnaw Bone grocery owner Lester Roberts died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Four Seasons Health Care Center. He was 83.
Mr. Roberts was born in Brown County December 25, 1917, the son of Roy and Bessie Ion Harden Roberts.
He married Kathryn Beryl Hen-dershot. She died October 11, 1997.
He had attended Gnaw Bone Wesleyan Church.
Floyd Shafer
Brown County native Floyd H. Shafer died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 87.
Mr. Shafer was born June 10, 1913, to James S. and Alice Hendershot Shafer.
He and Nola R. Priddy were married August 10, 1933. She survives.
A tool and die maker at Pittsburgh Plate and Glass, Mr. Shafer was a former owner of Central Tool and Tie.
Rufus Fleener
Brown County native Rufus E. Fleener died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Bloomington. He was 89.
He was born January 5, 1912, the son of F.E.V. and Rebecca (McClary) Fleener.
He married Elizabeth Fleener, who survives in Bloomington.
Mr. Fleener had worked for the City of Bloomington Sanitation Department for 23 years and was a member of West 11th Street Church of Christ and the Eagles.
Edward Hankins
Edward E. Hankins, the father of Nashville resident Vickie Weinstock, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Meadow View Nursing Home in Salem. He was 77.
Mr. Hankins was born February 2, 1924, in Rush County, to Otto J. and Elsie Vanlou Hankins.
A World War II veteran, he had retired from Arvin Industries in Columbus, where he had worked for 30 years.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Armond Ison
Armond J. Ison, the brother of Nashville resident Annualvone Halcomb, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his home in Westport. He was 68.
Mr. Ison was born January 13, 1933, in Whitesburg, the son of Henry and Osa Frasier Ison.
He married Shirley Hardy August 4, 1958, in Columbus. She survives.
A 1952 graduate of Whitesburg Kentucky High School, Mr. Ison retired from Golden Casting Corp. in Columbus after 42 years.
Philip Jenkins
Mount Liberty Road resident Retired Sergeant 1st Class Philip Wayne Jenkins died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in Columbus. He was 53.
Mr. Jenkins was born November 13, 1947, in Columbus to Alfred and Lela Butler Jenkins of Columbus.
He was retired from the United States Army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was graduated from Columbus High School in 1966, and had attended Indiana University.
Malary Mitchell
Becks Grove Road resident Malary J. Mitchell died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was 45.
She was born in Somerset, Kentucky, July 20, 1955, the daughter of Maudie V. Lovins Medaris of Columbus and the late William E. DeBord.
She married Allen Mitchell April 24, 1983 and he survives.
Mrs. Mitchell had been employed at Cosco in Columbus for 21 years.
Zadie Wilkerson
Zadie Wilkerson, the mother of Nashville resident Vickie Crouch Weinstock, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at her home in Edinburgh. She was 65.
She was born January 20, 1936, in Adair County, Kentucky, to Charles and Fannie Bean Chaplin.
She married Kenneth Wilkerson and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker.
James Wooten
James Wooten, the father of Brown County resident Joellen Howard, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Homeview Center of Franklin. A resident of Edinburgh, he was 39.
Mr. Wooten was born in Franklin October 4, 1961, the son of Bulen and Margie (Fitch) Wooten. They both survive in Edinburgh.
He was a self-employed wreath maker.
