Louis Rothert Jr.
Unionville resident Louis H. Rothert Jr. died Monday, September 17, at the Brown County Community Care Center. He was 89.
Born May 23, 1912, in Gentryville, he was the son of Louis H. Rothert Sr. and Amelia Katherine Smith Rothert.
He married Ruth Yearwood, who preceded him in death.
A mechanical engineer, Mr. Rothert had worked in San Diego and Evansville before retiring in 1978. He held a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.
Theresa Ryznar
Theresa Catherine (Fitzpatrick) Ryznar died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, in Franklin. A resident of Nineveh and former Indianapolis resident, she was 90.
Born October 31, 1910 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Cain) Fitzpatrick.
She attended schools in Pennsylvania.
A homemaker, she also served 1,000 hours of volunteer service at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis in the 1960s.
Morris White
Morris R. "Whitey" White, the father of Nashville resident Kenneth W. White, died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. A lifelong Johnson County resident, he was 78.
Born May 21, 1923, he was the son of William and Ressie (Underwood) White.
Mr. White was a US Army veteran and served during World War II.
He and Mildred E. Cummings were married October 30, 1945. She survives.
A heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 103 for more than 30 years, Mr. White retired in 1985.
Verna Bates
Verna Bates, the mother of Nashville resident Paul Bates, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. A resident of Winchester, she was 75.
Mrs. Bates had lived in Millstone, Kentucky.
She was born January 27, 1926, the daughter of Willie and Ardelia (Sanders) Wright.
She was married to Greeley Bates. He survives.
Johnny Clayton
Johnny C. Clayton, the owner of Claude’s Service Center in Morgantown, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. Ill for the past several weeks, he was 68.
Born April 16, 1933, in Aska, Georgia, he was the son of Gilford Cayce and Bessie Rachael (Tanner) Clayton. They both preceded him in death.
He and Nelda M. Ennis were married September 9, 1960. She survives in Martinsville.
During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Clayton served with the US Army in Germany. He then served four years in the Army Reserves and was discharged June 15, 1961, as a Corporal.
Charles Dinn
Morgantown resident Charles Robert "Red" Dinn died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at his home. He was 66.
Born in Petersville December 4, 1934, he was the son of Mamie L. Huff Dinn of Edinburgh and Leo Robert Dinn.
He and Annalee Hoffman were married February 5, 1960, in Indianapolis. She survives.
Employed for 31 years as a truck driver for Pennsylvania Truck Lines, Mr. Dinn retired in 1992.
He was a member of Union Village Masonic Lodge, Teamsters Retirees Club, Franklin Liar’s Club, Shelbyville Fairground Association, Indiana Standard Bred Association and United States Trotting Association.
Mary Elliott
Brown County native Mary Alice Elliott died Monday, October 8, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 69.
Born in Brown County September 28, 1932, she was the daughter of Thurston and Sarah L. (Spicer) Harden.
She married Russell Elliott, he survives.
A member of Landmark Pentecostal Church, Mrs. Elliott was retired from Johnson Supply Company.
Lee Fildes
Stinson Road resident Lee E. Fildes died Saturday, October 6, 2001, at his residence. He was 75.
Born August 20, 1926, in Kimble, South Dakota, he was the son of Roy and Margaret Kleinhas Fildes.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a self-employed drywaller.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge, and was an active member of the House of Prayer Church.
Mr. Fildes collected many things.
John Fluke
Green Valley Road resident John D. Fluke died Friday, October 12, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 45.
Born September 7, 1956, in Martinsville, he was the son of John J. and Nola (lighter) Fluke
He married Karen Fluke August 14, 1987. She survives.
Mr. Fluke had been a maintenance worker at Indiana University for many years.
Maleda Gibson
Maleda J. Gibson, the mother of Nashville resident Bill R. Miller, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. A resident of Bartholomew County, she was 76.
Born in Letcher County, Kentucky, September 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Ernest and Hattie (Cornett) Miller.
A homemaker, Mrs. Gibson was a well-known gardener and a member of Midway Assembly of God.
Lawrence Greathouse
Brown County native Lawrence Charles Greathouse died Friday, October 12, 2001, at his residence in North Vernon. Ill for the past three months, Mr. Greathouse was 70.
Born June 25, 1931, in Brown County, he was the son of Orval and Lena Neal Greathouse.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
He married Geneva Elkins June 17, 1950. She survives.
A member of East Columbus Baptist Church, Mr. Greathouse retired from L.P. Cavett in 1993.
Waneta Kinser
Waneta Kinser, the mother of Nashville resident George Robert Walls, died Monday October 8, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital. She was 60.
Mrs. Kinser was born in Columbus December 10, 1940, the daughter of Alvine Mullis and Leatha Smith Mullis Beabout.
She married Ansel Kinser October 7, 1961. He survives.
Harry Martlage
Long time Brown County resident, and Nashville business owner Harry E. Martlage died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, in Bloomington. He was 81.
Born May 3, 1920, in Indiana-polis, he was the son of Harry H and Lena (Senteney) Martlage.
He and Rose Kleis were married August 3, 1946. She survives.
Mr. Martlage was a member of the Southport Christian Church.
A World War II air force veteran, Mr. Martlage was a Lab Technician for Eli Lilly for 32 years.
For the past 22 years the Martlage’s have operated For the Birds on Nashville’s Jefferson Street.
Gerald Mobley
Jefferson Street resident Gerald L. "Jerry" Mobley died Friday, October 12, 2001, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was 66.
Born in Brown County January 13, 1935, he was the son of Ivan and Lenora Snider Mobley.
A member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom, Mr. Mobley retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1985.
He had been a volunteer firefighter with Trevlac Fire Department and an emergency medical technician.
Mr. Mobley also was a member of Nashville’s Masonic Lodge 135.
Wayne Robinson
Wayne I. Robinson, the father of Nashville resident Linda Hobbs, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, following a long illness. a resident of Ellettsville, he was 78.
Born in Monroe County March 7, 1923, he was the son of Ira and Zepha (Godsey) Robinson.
He attended Bloomington High School and was Marine veteran of World War II.
After the war, Mr. Robinson worked in Civil Service in Alaska.
He and Essie Denney were married October 23, 1943. She survives in Ellettsville.
Glennora Beasley
Glennora Ruth Beasley died Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at Brown County Health and Living Center. Resident of Stinesville, she was 31.
Graduated from Eastern High School, she was the daughter of John E. and Roberta (Wilson) Beasley.
Tommy Bulling
Brown County resident Tommy Lee "Bullet" Bulling died Saturday, October 6, 2001 in Indianapolis. He was 49.
Born February 11, 1952 in Granada, Mississippi, he is the son of Dorotha Bulling.
He attended school in Miss-issippi and graduated from Atterbury Job Corps. He retir-ed from Arvin Industries in Franklin after 24 years.
Mr. Bulling enjoyed fishing, dancing, and spending time with friends.
M. Ruth Butcher
Brown County native M. Ruth Butcher died Tuesday morning October 16, 2001 at Bloomington Hospital. A resident of Bloomington, she was 87.
Mrs. Butcher was born October 7, 1914, in Brown County, to Earnest and Sallie (Reddick) Richardson.
She was a secretary in the petroleum section of the Indiana Geological Survey prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Butcher was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher.
Marjorie Byers
Spearsville resident Marjorie F. Huntsman Byers died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at Todd-Aikens Healthcare Center in Franklin. She was 93.
Born February 26, 1908, in Brown County, she was the daughter of James A. and Maggie M. (Snyder) Zook.
She was graduated from Morgantown High School in 1925.
She married James Hunts-man September 5, 1925, in Jeff-ersonville. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Later that year she married Jack Byers and he passed away a short time later during that same year.
