Elmer Hundley
Former Trafalgar resident Elmer L. Hundley died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at Indiana Masonic Home Hospital in Franklin. He was 88.
Born August 23, 1913, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of John Thomas and Allie Brown Hundley.
His wife, Myrtle M. Hundley, survives at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.
Mr. Hundley worked in hydraulic service at Arvin Industries for 41 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Samaria Christian Church and Carpenter’s Union Local 2930.
Mr. Hundley served as president of the union local from 1971 until 1974.
M. Porter Murphy
M. Porter Murphy died Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. A long-time resident of that city, he was 82.
Mr. Murphy was born July 7, 1919 in Morgantown to Dr. Maurice G. and Ermell Porter Murphy.
His father was a well-known physician in Morgantown and Brown County for many years before his death in 1963.
Mr. Murphy was married to Frances M. Duncan. She survives.
He attended Indiana University and Northwestern University.
Rosemary Owens
Weddle Lane resident Rosemary Owens died Tuesday morning, December 18, 2001, at the Brown County Health and Living Center. She was 71.
Born in Brown County April 2, 1930, she was the daughter of Marvin and Jennie McGuire Dowell.
She married James Owens February 25, 1950. He survives.
A member of the Democratic Party, Mrs. Owens had been a waitress at the old Nashville Colonial Rest-aurant.
She also had worked at Golden Years Antique Shop in Nashville, retiring in 1993.
Sandra Shipley
Upper Schooner Road resident Sandra (Sandy) Faye Shipley died Monday, December 17, 2001. She was 58.
Born February 7, 1943, in Johnson Co-unty, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Donald Graham and Elva Florine Cobb. Her mother survives.
She and Robert John Shipley were married December 24, 1960, in Nashville. He survives.
A homemaker, Mrs. Shipley was a member of Nineveh Christian Church.
M. Dale Thickstun
Brown County native M. Dale "Jack" Thickstun died Friday, December 14, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. A resident of Abernathy, Texas, he was 74.
Born in Brown County February 18, 1927, he was the son of Millard "Mid" and Lesta Thickstun.
He and Ann Kerr were married January 29, 1949, in Lubbock, Texas. She survives.
Mr. Thick-stun was in the US Navy, and served on the USS Pensacola from 1945 until 1947.
A manager for Energas Company, he retired in 1985.
The couple also owned and operated the Country Peddler Antiques in Abernathy, Texas, since 1978.
Wanda Lee Thompson
Former Brown County resident Wanda Lee Thompson died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at her residence in Horse Cave, Kentucky. She was 69.
Born November 14, 1932, in Hart County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Ezra and Bertha Milton Lile.
She married William H. Thompson April 17, 1948, in LeGrande, Kentucky. He died November 1, 1992.
A homemaker, Mrs. Thompson was a member of Friendship Church in Trafalgar.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and collecting birds.
Ralph Badger
Georgetown Road resident Ralph Edward Badger died Saturday morning, December 22, 2001, at Cooney Convalescent Center in Helena, Montana. He was 79.
Born October 30, 1922, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Theodore Leslie and Pearl Ellen Kirkpatrick Badger.
He married Edna Mae Warren November 9, 1947. She died, November 17, 2001.
Retired from Edinburgh Schools, Mr. Badger also was a minister with an evangelistic association and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at a camp in Wyoming.
Robert Biddinger
Robert D. Biddinger, the brother of Nineveh resident Cindy Stone, died Thursday, December 27, 2001, at home in North Vernon. He was 63.
Born February 25, 1938, in Columbus, he was the son of Evelyn Purtlebaugh Biddinger of Columbus, and the late Robert D. Biddinger Sr.
He and Ruby Kay Harper were married September 9, 1956, in Columbus. She survives.
A 1956 graduate of Columbus High School, Mr. Biddinger was a salesman for Bezol Industrial Cleaners for 25 years.
Louis Cascardo
Louis B. Cascardo, the father of Nashville resident Louis B. Cascardo Jr. died Monday, December 24, 2001, at his residence in Bloomington. Formerly of Union City, New Jersey, he was 77.
Born November 11, 1924, in Union City, he was the son of Adolph and Loretta (McCann) Cascardo.
He married Johanna Moll, and she survives in Bloomington.
A retired engineer with AT&T Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey, for 32 years, Mr. Cascardo also had worked 10 years with the New York Central Railroad as an engineer.
Luke Clark
Luke Alton "Alpo" Clark, the brother of Owl Creek Road resident Jodi Clark, died Wednesday morning, December 26, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg. A resident of Washington, he was 39.
Mr. Clark was born September 17, 1962 in Davies County to Ray Alton Clark and Margie Wandalee (Plummer) Clark. They both survive.
Graduated from Washington High School in 1980, Mr. Clark also was graduated from Indiana State and Vincennes universities.
He worked as a MED-X driver for Senior and Family Services in Washington.
Samuel Dobbs II
Nashville businessman, Samuel T. Dobbs II died Wednesday, December 26, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 55.
He was born December 13, 1946 to Samuel T. and Barbara Dobbs in Connersville. They both survive in Brown County.
His wife, Gloria S. Dobbs survives.
With his wife, Mr. Dobbs owned Distinctive Creations, Pit Bull Leather and Lil Rascals, all in Nashville. Mr. Dobbs was a motorcycle enthusiast.
Rose Mary Follmer
Rose Mary Follmer, the sister of Nashville resident Mary Ramsey, died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. A resident of Greenwood, she was 62.
Born November 5, 1939, in Southgate, she was the daughter of Michael E. and Marie (Rodmaker) Huber.
Mrs. Follmer was a homemaker.
Peggy Hunter
Peggy (Finley) Hunter, the sister of Nashville residents Willis and Edward Finley and Susie Lucas, died Saturday, December 22, 2001, at her residence in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. She was 68.
Mrs. Hunter was born December 3, 1933, in Monroe County, Kentucky, the daughter of Bud and Beulah (York) Finley. They both preceded her in death.
She married Willie Eldon Hunter, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker.
Herman Lucas
Brown County native Herman Ernie Lucas died Saturday, December 29, 2001, in Brown County. He was 53.
Mr. Lucas was born July 12, 1948, in Brown County, the son of Claudine Wilson Bowers of Columbus and the late Marvin E. Lucas.
He married Cindy L. Ray, October 5, 1974. She survives.
He was an employee of Cummins Engine Company for 33 years and a union board member.
Linda Maxwell
Former Brown County resident Linda E. Maxwell died Wednesday, December 26 at Memorial Hospital in Seymour. A resident of Leesburg, Florida, she was 64.
She was born July 6, 1937 to Cleve Gurnel and Lois Lonnette Oliver Sherrill.
On March 28, 1964, she married Richard A. Maxwell. He survives.
Mrs. Maxwell had been a secretary at the Marion County Probation Department and recently worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Mount Dora, Florida.
Marion Siekerman
Nashville resident Marion O. Schultz Siekerman died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Brown County Health and Living Center. She was 87.
Mrs. Siekerman was born March 1, 1914 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Lowder) Schultz.
She married Dr. Clairmont W. Siekerman, M.D. in 1935 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death.
A registered nurse at Turtle Creek Health Care in Indianapolis, Mrs. Siekerman was previously a juvenile investigator for Marion County Sheriff’s Department and was a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital.
Ralph Walden
Former Brown County resident Ralph W. Walden died Monday, December 24, 2001, at Todd-Aikens Health Care in Franklin. He was 88.
Mr. Walden was born May 5, 1913, in Edinburgh, the son of Otis W. and Minnie Taylor Walden.
He married Ruth I. Browning November 20, 1937, in Columbus. She died May 8, 1961.
A mechanic and truck builder for more than 25 years at Marmon-Her-rington Truck Company in Indianapolis, Mr. Walden also worked 19 years at Space Corporation Truck Company in Dallas, retiring in 1982.
Nick Weltich
Nick Weltich, the father of Nashville resident David B. Weltich, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at Americare Living Center in Westfield. He was 88.
Born March 14, 1913, in Gary, he was the son of John and Mary Weltich.
He married Ema Gene Prevo. She preceded him in death.
A member of First United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Florida, he owned Weltich Insurance Agency in Muncie from 1946 until 1962 and in Indianapolis from 1971 until 1978, retiring in 1978.
Donald Bemis
South Shore Drive resident Donald Maurice Bemis died Friday, January 18, 2002, at his residence. He was 75.
Born May 2, 1926, in Miami, Florida, he was the son of Irwin Otis and Thelma Ladson Bemis.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
A professional musician, Mr. Bemis played with his own band, Don Bemis and the Hoosier Hot Shots. Mr. Bemis also owned the Sun Room, where he was a cosmetologist.
