William V. Duncan

William V. Duncan, 45, of Spiceland, died Jan. 1 at his home.
He was born March 17, 1965, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, a son of the late William Hobart and Patricia Kathleen (Jeffery) Duncan.
Mr. Duncan served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Grenada. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Braxton, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed politics.
Survivors include his wife, Mary R. (Pierce) Duncan; two stepchildren, Tricia (husband, Scott) Frisbie of Straughn and Jeffery S. Guffey of Albany, Ky.; three step grandchildren, Braxton, Josh and Jared; three sisters, Pam Little of Spiceland, Kim Saunders of New Castle and Sandra Preston of West Virginia; a brother, Timothy Duncan of Cape Coral, Fla.; his grandmother, Ruthanna Jeffery of Knightstown; his great aunt and great uncle, Harold and Vi Jeffery of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Philip V. Jeffery, and his grandmother, L.I. Hoppes.
Funeral services were Jan. 8 at Spiceland Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Mark Herbkersman and Allen Southerland officiating. Visitation was noon until time of services at the church. Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle handled arrangements.
Dale E. Young
November 17, 1931 - January 11, 2011
Dale E. Young, 79, of Shirley, died Jan. 11 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Elbert and Fredia (Harmon) Young.
Mr. Young retired from Best Lock Corporation and was a custodian at Eastern Hancock High School. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Shirley Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Young enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Young of Shirley; two sons, Mark (wife, Naomi) Young of Markleville and Barry Young of Shirley; a daughter, Rhonda Young of Shirley; a brother, Lloyd (wife, Pat) Young of Greenfield; two sisters, Deloris Hollenbeck of Shelbyville and Linda (husband, Dave) Griffith of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Dan Jones officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services on Jan. 14.

Johnny Lee Robertson
September 25, 1931 – January 16, 2011
Johnny Lee Robertson, 79, of Brownsburg, formerly of Shirley, died on Jan. 16.
He was born on September 25, 1931, in Henry County, a son of Robert and Laura Robertson.
Mr. Robertson served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He was mechanic on the B-29 bomber aircraft. As a civilian, he worked for the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration as a print shop supervisor, retiring after 38 years of service. He also received the Distinguished Hoosier award from then Gov. Evan Bayh in 1994. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Ann (Estelle); a daughter, Lori Ann Robertson; and a brother, Robert Robertson.
A private burial will be held with arrangements made by Stevens Mortuary and Family Center in Indianapolis.

Neil Gaddis
June 21, 1916 - Jan 12, 2011
Neil Gaddis, 94, died Jan. 12.
He was born in Fairmount, on June 21, 1916, a son of the late Ernest and Treva (Seale) Gaddis.
Mr. Gaddis graduated from Fairmount High School in 1933, but had lived in the rural Straughn community since 1936. He was co-owner of Johnson & Gaddis Milk Transport for several years and was a truck driver for Marsh Supermarkets for 25 years. He enjoyed watching all types of sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of Richsquare Friends Church.
Survivors include three children, Terry and Joyce Gaddis of Straughn, and Douglas (wife, Barb) of Centerville; five grandchildren, Julie (husband, Tom) Freeman, Rachel (husband, Joe) Mullen, Justin Gaddis, Brandon Gaddis and Trenton Gaddis; four great-grandchildren, Scott, Mary, Rana and Tristan; one brother, Charles "Chic" Gaddis of Albuquerque; one sister, Irene Reeves of Alexandria; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gaddis was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mildred Lois Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Jean Schroeder Gaddis; two brothers, John and Harold Gaddis; and two sisters, Louise Newman and Thelma Lucille Matrejek.
Visitation was on Jan. 15 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with cremation following.

Melba E. Parson
February 21, 1935 – January 12, 2011
Melba E. (Logan) Parson, 75, of Anderson died Jan. 12.
She was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Fitch, Ky. and moved to Carthage, where she grew up, at age two.
Mrs. Parson had lived in Anderson for 46 years. She retired from Alac in 1994. She was a member of 38th Street Free Will Baptist Church and was a Free Will Baptist pastor’s wife. She loved to read, crochet and spend time with her many close friends.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. William Parson; children, Joyce Parson (husband, Steve Munz) of Columbus, Ohio, Rev. Billy W. (wife, Sue) Parson of Wabash and Jennifer (husband, Rev. Jimmy Hoover) of Anderson; siblings Shelby Carpenter, Kenneth Logan, Olive Forsyth, Howard Logan and Ilene Dyer; grandchildren Rev. Russell Houser (wife, Tammy), David A. Houser (wife, Becky), Jason Houser (wife Edna), April (husband, Doug) King, Aspen (husband, Mark) King, Kris Parson and Charity Hoover; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Parson was preceded in death by her parents, William Howard and Martha Ellen (Butler) Logan; daughter April Marie Parson; and sister Ona DeBoard.
Visitation was Jan. 15 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home in Anderson with services following. Burial was at Carthage Town Cemetery.
Connie L. Todd
March 22, 1950 - January 11, 2011
Connie L. Todd, 60, of Rushville, died Jan. 11 at her home.
She was born March 22, 1950, in Seymour, a daughter of Louella L. (Joyce) Callon and the late Clarence L. Callon.
Mrs. Todd was a 1968 Greensburg High School and a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage. A member of Knightstown Business and Professional Women, she was active in the Rushville Elks Clothe A Child Christmas program and was an associate member of Knightstown of Columbus in Rushville. Mrs. Todd co-owned Todd Funeral Home in Carthage and Knightstown. She enjoyed spending time her family, spending spring break in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and planning large Christmas celebrations.
Survivors include her husband, John J. Todd; a son, Patrick (wife, Tonya) Todd; a daughter, April Todd; her mother, Louella L. (Joyce) Callon; four grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Wooten and Madison and Ashley Todd, all of Rushville; and a brother, Gerald L. (wife, Judy) Callon of Huntsville, Ala.
Funeral services were Jan. 15 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation was Jan. 14 at the funeral home.

Sheldon Lee Gearlds
June 16, 1989 – January 10, 2011
Sheldon Lee Gearlds, 21, of Bedford, died Jan. 10 in New Port Richey, Fla.
He was born June 16, l989 in Bedford.
He was a member of the Field Artillery Unit of Indiana National Guard in Bloomington and was a member of the Lost River Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Rebecca (husband, Hank) South, and father, Kenneth Murphy, of Bedford. Other survivors include daughters Khloe Skye of Frostproof, Fla., and Rebecca Lynn of Holiday, Fla; brothers David L. (wife, Carrie) Burton of Mitchell, Timothy Moody of Bedford, and Micah Murphy of Bedford; sister Alyssa Murphy of Bedford; nephews Gavin Malcolm Burton and Taryn Slade Burton; and grandparents Dan and Wanda Moody of Loogootee, Mike and Sue Murphy of Bedford, and Sue Fleener of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Fleener.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 16 in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell with Bro. David Hopper and Elder Tim Hopper officiating. A graveside service, with military honors accorded by the Indiana National Guard, American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, was held on Jan. 17 at Lost River Primitive Baptist Cemetery.
