Barbara Higgins Brown, 78, of McDonough, Ga., died Nov. 11.
She was born June 24, 1932 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Robert and Della (Craig) Higgins.
Known as a devoted homemaker, Mrs. Brown enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and reading. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Brown of McDonough, Ga.; her children, Roberta (husband, Hugh) Preston of Douglasville, Ga., David (wife, Raye Ann) Brown of McDonough, Virginia (husband, Robert, Jr.) Downey of McDonough, Pamela Ansley of Cornelia, Ga., and Tracy (husband, Lonnie) Kimberly of Stockbridge, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Swincher of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne T. McSherley
August 20, 1927 - November 10, 2010
Wayne T. McSherley, 83, of Arlington, died Nov. 10 at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Henry County, a son of the late Clay and Beulah (Patterson) McSherley.
Mr. McSherley was a Sulphur Springs High School graduate who worked at Sulphur Lumber Company and repaired farm machinery for over 60 years.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Stout of Arlington.
Graveside funeral services were Nov. 12 at Miller Cemetery. Ballard and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled arrangements.

Roger E. Ray

Roger E. Ray, 97, of Kennard, died Nov. 10 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born May 1, 1913, in Henry County, a son of the late Clayton and Hazel (Boyle) Ray.
Mr. Ray owned and operated Ray’s Appliances in Kennard, DX Oil & Skel Gas. He was a member of Greensboro Masonic Lodge #175, Kennard Christian Church and the Kennard Lions Club.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Carolyn Drysdale of Kennard; two nephews, Dan Drysdale of Kennard and Jeff Drysdale of Atlanta, Ga.; three nieces, Cindy Sweigart of New Castle, Becky Drysdale of Kennard and Mary Beth Pribble of Kennard; two grandsons, Gary Fallon of New Castle and Geoffrey Fallon of Monarch, Mt.; and two granddaughters, Natalie Stephens of Florida and Julie Fallon of Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Lavoughn Ray and Mabel Ray; and a brother, Robert "Buss" Ray.
Graveside funeral services were Nov. 15 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Rev. Marion McFarland officiating. Masonic services, provided by Greensboro Masonic Lodge #175, also took place.
Daniel J. Bowman
April 12, 1944 - November 19, 2010
Daniel J. Bowman, 66, of Greenfield, died Nov. 19 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born April 12, 1944, in Indianapolis, a son of Miriam (White) Bowman and the late James Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was an engineer for AM General in South Bend for 10 years, and later served as an engineer at Remy, Inc. in Anderson. He also owned Performance Engineering in Anderson for 12 years. A member of the Muncie Train Club, Mr. Bowman enjoyed racing cars and was a World War II history buff.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Rozzell) Bowman of Greenfield; a daughter, Michelle Bowman of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Michael Bowman of Greenfield; his mother, Miriam (White) Bowman of Greenfield; a brother, Thomas Bowman of Greenfield; and two nephews, Samuel and Jared Bowman of Indianapolis.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Bowman.
Funeral services were Nov. 24 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Terry Kemp officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Nov. 23 at the funeral home.

Carlos Andrew Rigdon
April 4, 1956 - November 16, 2010
Carlos Andrew Rigdon, 54, of Knightstown, died Nov. 16.
He was born April 4, 1956, in Vanceburg, Ky., a son of the late John Andrew and Dora (Grayson) Rigdon.
Mr. Rigdon was a Knightstown High School graduate who was employed at Avery Dennison in Greenfield. He was previously employed at Smurfit Stone Container Corporation in Carthage. An organ donor, Mr. Rigdon enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, riding motorcycles, camping and spending time with his family and pets.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Rigdon of Knightstown; two daughters, Molly Rigdon and Shawna Rigdon, both of Knightstown; a brother, Bill (wife, Sue) Purden of Ocala, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Steve (wife, Margie) Bridges of Knightstown; a sister-in-law, Susie (husband, Devin) Keefer of Knightstown; an uncle, Jim Grayson of Tollesboro, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Nov. 20 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Nov. 19 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Rigdon for an educational fund for their daughters, or the American Heart Association.
Norma Firestone
October 13, 1931 - November 13, 2010
Norma Firestone, 79, of Carrollton, Ky., died Nov. 13 at her home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1931, in South Bend, a daughter of the late Ward and Nell (Fox) Morehouse.
Mrs. Firestone, a former Knightstown resident, owned and operated an antique business and a bed-and-breakfast.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Firestone of Louisville, Ky., and Jeff E. Firestone of Mooresville, N.C.; two sisters, Eleanor Snyder of Missouri and Judi Larrew of Auburn, Cal.; a brother, Kent Morehouse of South Bend; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Freeman Firestone.
Funeral services were Nov. 19 at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Helen L. Hummel
December 8, 1922 - November 27, 2010
Helen L. Hummel, 87, of New Albany, Ohio, died Nov. 27 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.
She was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Jay County, a daughter of the late Clem and Bertha (Green) Wright.
Mrs. Hummel was a lifelong homemaker who attended Kennard Friends Church for many years. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She resided in New Albany for the last 10 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Lora (husband, David) Augenstein of New Albany; four grandchildren, Valerie (Hummel) McDonald of Greenwood and Emily, Nathanael and Jacobsen Augenstein of New Albany; two great grandchildren; a sister, Berniece Harris of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hummel; and a son, Donald Hummel.
Funeral services were Dec. 1 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Burial followed at Sugar Groce Cemetery in New Castle. Visitation was Nov. 30 at the funeral home.
