James E. Brackman

James E. Brackman, 73, of Rushville, died Sept. 7 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born March 20, 1937, a son of the late Charles and Pauline (Southerland) Brackman.
Mr. Brackman was a 1955 Trafalgar High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Delores (Bowen) Brackman; two daughters, Michele (husband, Brian) Speers of Connersville and Anita Fry of Rushville; a son, Todd (wife, Katie) Brackman of Greenfield; two stepdaughters, Theresa (husband, Roger) Richert of Losantville and Sharon (husband, Tim) Smalley of Selma; two brothers, Alan Brackman of Muncie and Mike Brackman of New Palestine; nine grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sept. 10 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Mick Saunders officiating. Burial followed at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation was Sept. 10 at the funeral home.

Emerson R. Wilcoxon
October 14, 1928 - September 19, 2010
Emerson R. "Junior" Wilcoxon, 81, of Anderson, formerly of Wilkinson, died Sept. 19 at Community Hospital in Anderson.
He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Shelbyville, a son of the late Emerson (Sr.) Sara (Miller) Wilcoxon.
Mr. Wilcoxon retired from Fisher-Guide Lamp in Anderson after 42 years of service. He was a former district Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader. He was also a squad commander in a National Guard tank division. Mr. Wilcoxon served in several capacities with the town of Wilkinson, having been a former Wilkinson town marshal and Wilkinson volunteer fireman. He and his wife, Sally, owned and operated Sugar Grove Campground in Eden.
Survivors include three sons, David (wife, Pam) Wilcoxon of Onia, Ark., Dwight (wife, Patti) Wilcoxon of New Whiteland and Jay R. Wilcoxon of Eden; a daughter, Julie (husband, Kevin) Ashby of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lou Bashong.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home.

Everett E. Lawton
December 21, 1933 - September 18, 2010
Everett E. Lawton, 76, of New Castle, died Sept. 18 at his home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1933, in New Castle, a son of the late Frank and Susie (Chew) Lawton.
Mr. Lawton owned E.L. Carpet Service in Miami, Okla., was a race car driver and a farmhand. His hobbies included CB radios and coin collecting. He raced at Mt. Lawn Speedway periodically from 1949-2008.
Survivors include two sons, Forrest (wife, Michelle) Lawton of Palaski, Va., and Evan (wife, Marian) Lawton of Congerville, Ill.; two daughters, Gretchen K. (husband, Randall) Quilliams of Mountain City, Ga., and Lora Haywood of Lebanon, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Sabrina Severson, Mandi Cantrell, Ashleigh Hadfield, Brooke Lawton and Jacob Lawton; a great-granddaughter, Addeline Hadfield; two sisters, Barbara Humes of New Castle and Melba Jean Miller of Shirley; a brother, Frank Lawton, Jr., of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sept. 22 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Sept. 21 at the funeral home.
Walter H. Paugh
April 21, 1948 - September 30, 2010
Walter H. Paugh, 62, of Knightstown, died Sept. 30 at his home.
He was born April 21, 1948, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Robert Paugh and Charlotte (Burton) Tolen. Mr. Paugh was a 1966 Franklin Central High School graduate. He retired from CSX Railroad in 2010 after 44 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and attending motocross events.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Paugh of Knightstown; four grandchildren, Cody Juday, Keianna Paugh, Peyton Inman and Kuhryssa Paugh, all of Knightstown; a sister, Dawn (husband, Mark) Levine of Cincinnati, Ohio; his mother, Charlotte (husband, Jim) Tolen of Fairland; and a former wife, Pam Paugh of Carthage.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Paugh; and a brother, Greg Paugh.
Funeral services are at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Roger Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is 3 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the funeral home.

Nina Lou Back

Nina Lou Back, 73, of Knightstown, died Sept. 27 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born May 18, 1937, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Bert and Cora (Langley) Schaeffer.
Mrs. Back lived in Knightstown all her life and worked part-time at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home. She was a member of Northside Church of God in New Castle.
Survivors include her daughter, Terri (husband, Dan) Drysdale of Kennard; three sons, Jeffrey D. (wife, Lesa) Back of Knightstown, David (wife, Beth) Back of Carthage and Kevin Lee Back of Knightstown; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer Back; a sister, Evelyn Schaeffer; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Joe Schaeffer.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Phil Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.

Opal J. Hyatt

Opal J. Hyatt, 86, of Wilkinson, died Sept. 26 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born July 1, 1924, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Aaron and Leora Pearl (Buchanan) Yount.
Mrs. Hyatt was a homemaker most of her life. She and her late husband, Dan, owned and operated Hyatt’s Shoe Store in Wilkinson for many years. She was a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Wilkinson.
Survivors include four daughters, Glenda (husband, Brad) Thompson of Wilkinson, Betty (husband, Tommie) Bowen of Indianapolis, Juanita (husband, Terry) Reason of Wilkinson and Dorothy (husband, John) Ankrom of Tipton; a son, Daniel (wife, Peggy) Hyatt of Parker City; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; four brothers, Cecil, William, James and Samuel Yount; six sisters, Mable Sears, Mary Warrenburg, Stella Yount, Frances Green, Helen Yount and Catherine Warrenburg; and a great-grandchild, Alice Ankrom.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Curt Solomon officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.

Robert W. Toloday
February 17, 1926 - September 22, 2010
Robert W. Toloday, 84, of Wilkinson, died Sept. 22 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle.
He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Henry County, a son of the late Wilson and Jeanette (Downey) Toloday.
Mr. Toloday retired from Warner Gear in Muncie and served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Willow Branch United Methodist Church and Eden Masonic Lodge #477.
Survivors include his sister, Ina Cain of Wilkinson; a brother, Victor (wife, Joan) Toloday of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Charles, Glenn and Mike Toloday.
Graveside funeral services were Sept. 24 at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with Pastor Adam Payne officiating. Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson handled arrangements.
