Lola Margaret Frye Roy

Lola Margaret Frye Roy, 89, of New Castle, died Tuesday, August 16, at the home of her son, Roger Roy, and his wife, Patty, in New Castle. She was born January 2, 1916, in Salvisa, Ky., daughter of the late Statta Parsons Frye and Brent O. Frye.
Mrs. Roy retired from New Castle State Hospital. She was a foster grandparent and attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Shirley Gospel Mission and the Harlan Church in Wilkinson.
Mrs. Roy is survived by five sons, James (wife Dean) Roy, Gary (wife Jean) Roy, all of Knightstown, Phillip Roy, Roger (wife Patty) Roy, all of New Castle and Ronnie (companion Joyce) Roy of Needles, Calif.; five daughters, Barbara Norfleet and Doris Steward, both of Carthage, Sharon (husband Floyd) Steward of Anderson; Darlus Johnson of Muncie; and Sue (husband Rick) Moore of Indianapolis; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 62 years, Eddie Aaron Roy, preceded her in death in 1999. In addition to her parents, a sister, Juanita Bottoms; a brother, Ted Frye; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a special niece Betty Frye Young; two sons-in-law, Junior Norfleet and Robert Thomas Johnson; and special grandson Rogie Roy also preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 19, at the Harlan Church, with Rev. Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial followed in Harlan Cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday, August 18, at Marcum Community Funeral Home and Friday, August 19, prior to the service, at the church.
Marilyn C. Hiner
Jan. 3, 1933 – Aug. 30, 2005
Marilyn C. Hiner, 72, of Knightstown, died Tuesday, August 30, at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born January 3, 1933, in New Castle, daughter of the late Otis E. and Nina (Chambers) Coffin.
Mrs. Hiner was a 1950 graduate of Mays High School. She owned White Flash Auto Parts, White Flash Mini Storage and Lane’s Service in Knightstown. She had been the office manager at Kennedy Chrysler-Plymouth in Indianapolis for many years. Mrs. Hiner was a member of the First Christian Church of Knightstown and the Knightstown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include three children, Stephanie (husband Rob) Homer of Waterville, Ohio; Steve (wife Candy) Bearhope of Knightstown; and Roxanne (husband Tom) Lane of Knightstown; a sister, Shirley Jackson of Knightstown; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiner was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hiner; a brother, Robert Coffin; and a sister, Kathryn Fobes.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 2, 10 a. m., at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday, September 1, at the funeral home.

Linda S. Byrd
June 15, 1942 – Aug. 31, 2005
Linda S. Byrd, 63, of Knightstown, died Wednesday, August 31, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born June 15, 1942, in Gary, daughter of the late Louis and Orpha (Marley) Reveal.
Mrs. Byrd was a 1960 graduate of Muncie Central High School. She retired from Central Sales and Marketing as a bakery and deli representative in 1999. She had previously been employed at Marsh in Anderson for 18 years and had also worked at Becker’s Grocery in New Castle. Mrs. Byrd was a member of the Cadiz Christian Church and the American Business Women Association.
Survivors include her husband, Lowell Byrd of Knightstown; two daughters, Heidi (husband Emerson) Craig of Nebraska and Beth (husband Richard) Lonski of Olathe, Kan.; a son, Kenneth (wife Tina) Byrd of Muncie; twelve grandchildren; a brother, David Reveal of Taylors, S.C.; an aunt, Marjorie (husband John) Vincent of Muncie; and several nieces and nephew.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 4, 2 p.m., at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Burial followed in Hicksite Cemetery, Greensboro.
Visitation was held Saturday, September 3, at the funeral home.

Irene Joan “Joanie” Hinton
Sept. 4, 1920 – Sept. 3, 2005
Irene Joan “Joanie” Hinton, 84, a resident of Knightstown for over 50 years, died Saturday, September 3, at the home of her daughter. She was born September 4, 1920, in Wellingborough, England, the daughter of the late Albert and Emily Neal Clarke.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy (husband Roy) Livingston of West Lafayette; a son, Neil Hinton of Knightstown; a sister, Joyce Atkin of England; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces.
She married Joseph A. Hinton on December 2, 1942, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 1991.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, September 7, 11 a.m., at Glen Cove Cemetery, with the Rev. Mervin Kilmer officiating. Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown was in charge of the arrangements.

Rhoda Ann Dawes
Jan. 18, 1914 – Sept. 4, 2005
Rhoda Ann Dawes, 91, of Knightstown, died Sunday, September 4, at Americare Living Center in New Castle. She was born January 18, 1914, in Jefferson County, Ky., daughter of the late Jess T. and Bessie G. Cozine Burgin.
Mrs. Dawes retired as a cook from the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home. She attended the First Christian Church of Knightstown.
Survivors include a son, William (wife Barbara) Dawes of Knightstown; a daughter, Kathryn (husband Arnold) Moir of North Vernon; a brother, Jodie Burgin of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice K. Dawes in 1980; a daughter Ella May Cheek; a grandchild, Shawn Michael Moir; six brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, at 2 p.m., at Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown, with the Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery,
Visitation was held Wednesday, September 7, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jean L. (Snider) Mauzy
Sept. 4, 1925 – Sept. 9, 2005
Jean L. (Snider) Mauzy, 80, formerly of Markleville, died Friday, September 9, at Regency Place of Castleton, following an extended illness. She was born September 4, 1925, in Eden, the daughter of the late Omer F. and Stella M. (Shore) Snider.
Ms. Mauzy was a former comptometerist for Eli Lilly and a homemaker. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Bullington of Gordonsville, Tenn. and Carolyn Brewer of Markleville; four grandchildren, Jonas Bullington, Erik Bullington, Sarah Bullington and Kathleen Levitt; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Grace Bullington; and former husband Keith Mauzy.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Mauzy was preceded in death by three brothers, Oak, Keith and Glenn Snider and two sisters, Inez Gray and Joan Hudson.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 12, at 1 p.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson, with Morton McShurley and Anthony Schommer officiating. Burial followed in Eden Cemetery, Eden.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday, September 11, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Norma Jean Hughes
May 20, 1937 – Sept. 18, 2005
Norma Jean Hughes, 68, of Wilkinson, died Sunday, September 18, at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. She was born May 20, 1937, in Wilkinson, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Milner) Whiteman.
Mrs. Hughes had been a schoolteacher in California and Missouri and locally in Wilkinson, Shirley, Eastern Hancock, Lewisville and at Christian Schools in Selma and Anderson. She is a former member of the Wilkinson United Methodist Church and the Zion Unto Christ Fellowship. Mrs. Hughes held various jobs at the churches.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Hughes of Wilkinson; two sons, Robert Stuart Clayton of Florida and Jerald Scott Hughes of Nashville, Tenn.; one stepson, Charles Hughes, Jr. of Indiana; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a sister, Sue Cozart of Fortville.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Forkner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 21, at 10 a.m., at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 20, from 4-8 p.m.
