Paul E. Joyce

June 2, 1914 - August 22, 2010

Paul E. Joyce, 96, of Greenfield, formerly of New Castle, died Aug. 22 at Regency Place in Greenfield.

He was born June 2, 1914, in Beech Grove, a son of the late Edward and Ida (Toone) Joyce.

Mr. Joyce retired from Pendleton Reformatory where he served as the farm superintendent. He was also a retired farmer and school bus driver. A member of Eden United Methodist Church, Mr. Joyce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Eden Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and an avid Purdue University and Indiana Pacers fan. Survivors include two sons, Richard (wife, Wanda) Joyce of Lake Wells, Fla., and Everett (wife, Doylie) Joyce of Greenfield; a daughter, Judith Trussler of Texas; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grand children; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Marion Worrell of Danville; a brother, Dale Joyce of Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jonathon Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery in Pendleton with full military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home. Masonic services will take place at 7 p.m. and will be conducted by the Eden Masonic Lodge.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eden United Methodist Church, 2122 Eden Rd., Eden, IN 46140.

Helen Wilkinson

October 27, 1909 - August 18, 2010

Helen Wilkinson, 100, of Greenfield, formerly of Knightstown, died Aug. 18 at Regency Place in Greenfield.

he was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Raysville, a daughter of the late Aubrey and Estelle Wilkinson.

A Knightstown High School graduate, Miss Wilkinson’s disability necessitated her working from home. She was known as a kind and quiet person, who made her home with her sister, Martha. Martha Wilkinson managed the Knightstown Gas Company for several years. After Martha died, Helen sold their Raysville home and moved to Greenfield.

Graveside funeral services took place Aug. 23 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Rev. Dale Riggs officiating. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service handled arrangements.

Erma Christina Stone

June 21, 1928 - August 10, 2010

Erma Christina (Rankin) Stone, 82, of Mt. Sterling, Ky., died Aug. 10.

She was born June 21, 1928 in Lewis County, Ky.

A former employee of Premier Rubber Company, she was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Stone of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; two daughters, Sharon (husband, Chris) Creamer and Patricia Jackson, both of Columbus, Ohio; a son, John Stone of Mt. Sterling; a brother, Wilford Rankin of Knightstown; two grandchildren, Shaun Maxwell and Renee Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral services were Aug. 13 at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals in Mt. Sterling. Burial follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling. Visitation was Aug. 13 at the funeral home.

E. Marcus Smith

January 26, 1936 - August 29, 2010

E. Marcus Smith, 74, of Wilkinson, died Aug. 29 in Brandon, Fla.

He was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Hancock County, a son of the late Everett and Ada (Bolander) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and a former tool and die maker for Delco Remy. He graduated from Wilkinson High School and the Delco Remy Tool and Die Apprenticeship Program.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean (Jeffries) Smith of Wilkinson; two daughters, Patty (husband, Dick) Hext of Belvidere, Ill., and Marjorie (husband, Mike) Sachinger of Valrico, Fla.; two sons, Caryl (wife, Juli) Smith of Wilkinson and Jon (wife, Vikki) Smith of Spanish Fork, Utah; a brother, Jerry Smith of Wilkinson; a sister, Joann Hammer of Shirley; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Baer; and a brother, Bob Smith.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Minister Fred Girdwood officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Christian Church, 4980 E. Co. Rd. 500-S., Greenfield, IN 46140.

Theo Perkins, Jr.

January 7, 1933 - August 28, 2010

Theo Perkins, Jr., 77, of Greenfield, died Aug. 28 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Jackson, Ky., a son of the late Theo and Cindy (Thacker) Perkins.

Mr. Perkins worked at Roll Coater in Greenfield for 35 years, retiring in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Geraldine) Perkins of Ingalls; a daughter, Rebecca Perkins of Greenfield; a stepson, Darrell Henderson of Somerset, Ky.; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ivall Reynolds of Ohio, Myrtle Moore of Daleville and Dixie Turner of Greenfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James "Duck" Perkins; and two sisters, Daley Martin and Eunice Robertson.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Simmons Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Alta J. Widvey

June 25, 1936 - August 28, 2010

Alta J. Widvey, 74, of Shirley, died Aug. 28 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born June 25, 1936, in Texas, a daughter of the late Arasmus Asbury and Nova Rose (Ashby) Bishop.

Mrs. Widvey worked for local attorney Willard Avery for over 30 years. She retired in 1984. She received several awards over the years, including a Woman of the Year award for her commitment to community service.

Survivors include a sister, Verlyn (husband, Richard) Wilson of Wilkinson; a brother, Terrell Vaughn Bishop of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle "Phil" Widvey; and a bother, James Bishop.

Funeral services were Aug. 31 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Aug. 31 at the funeral home.

Helen L. Sorrell

November 3, 1915 - August 24, 2010

Helen L. Sorrell, 94, of Knightstown, died Aug. 24 at Hickory Creek in New Castle.

She was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Connersville, a daughter of the late Ernest and Daisy (Archey) Watt.

Mrs. Sorrell was a 1933 Connersville High School graduate who worked at P.N. Hirsch & Co. Department Store in Knightstown for 20 years. She was a member of Knightstown Christian Church and the Knightstown Home Economics Club for several years. Following retirement, she and her husband, William, lived in Florida for over 20 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Christie Jarrett of Knightstown; eight grandchildren, Barbara Jarrett of Florida, Mark Jarrett and Gretchen Jarrett, both of Kentucky, John Sorrell of Knightstown, Kathy Spears of South Carolina, Janie Sorrell of Knightstown, Angela Brown of Henderson, Nev, and J.D. Sorrell of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Christy Sorrell; two sons, Jim Sorrell and William Robert Sorrell; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Knightstown Christian Church with Richard Thayer and Anthony Darling officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is Sept. 2 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
