Joe D. Byers

Joe D. Byers, 65, of Knightstown, died July 24 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Nov. 12, 1944, in Albany, Ky., a son of the late Jessie Hulen Byers and Flossie Elizabeth (Russell) Byers.
Mr. Byers enjoyed trading and showing horses and cattle. He spent many hours at sale barns doing that. He was a member of the Tennessee Walking and Racking Horse Club and the Muncie Light Horse Club. He retired from Delco-Remy.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Kay Byers of Knightstown; five sons, Joey (wife, Rachel) Byers of New Braunfles, Tex., Greg (wife, Angela) Byers of Colorado Springs, Colo., Andy (wife, Tiffany) Byers of Knightstown, Dennis (wife, Katie) Byers of Knightstown and Greg (wife, Amy) Claborn of Albany, Ky.; a daughter, Jenny (husband, Arvel) Hinton of Cloverdale; a sister, Wilma (husband, Ulden) York of Tennessee; 11 grand children, Kayla Byers, Tyler Byers, Kendrick Carnes, Brandon Carnes, Danika Byers, Jacob Byers, Kayden Byers, Jaxson Byers, Garrett Byers and Chase and Madison Claborn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda K. (Lewis) Byers; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were July 27 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Mark Simmermon officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 26 at the funeral home.
Herbert Roy Miller
May 27, 1944 - July 23, 2010
Herbert Roy Miller, 66, of rural Greenfield, died July 23 at his home.
He was born May 27, 1944, in Indianapolis, a son of Marianne (Ferrell) Sears and the late Frederick Dale Miller.
Mr. Miller was a retired food broker and a member of the International Society of Poets. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Amvets and the National Rifle Association. He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Miller of Greenfield; two sons, Nicholas Miller of Greenfield and Herb Miller II of Fishers; a daughter-in-law, Shane Miller of Fishers; two grandsons, Mitchell and Brandon Miller of Fishers; a granddaughter, Annie Miller of Fishers; and his mother, Marianne Sears of Greenfield.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Don Watson officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to services at the funeral home.

Fern Shores
September 16, 1917 - July 23, 2010
Fern "Betty" Shores, 92, died July 23 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield.
She was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Grover and Hazel (Barrett) Titus.
Mrs. Shores retired from K-Mart in Anderson in 1982 after 20 years of service. She was a member of Spring Valley Guild and Zeta Clubs.
Survivors include a grandson, Ben Shores of Greenfield; a granddaughter, Kandalee Shores of Greenfield; two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gracie Shores of Greenfield; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Shores; a son, Robert Shores; and two brothers, Raymond and Hiram Titus.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Nathaniel Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Jack L. Robertson
November 14, 1932 - July 22, 2010
Jack L. Robertson, 77, of Shirley, died July 22 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield.
He was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Wayne E. and Mary (Neidhamer) Robertson.
Mr. Robertson retired as a truck driver for Continental Bakery in Indianapolis after 38 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Robertson attended Shirley United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Shirley Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, as well as watching NASCAR races, motorcycle riding, camping and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Robertson of Shirley; a son, Jeffrey (wife, Carol) Robertson of Knightstown; two daughters, Kim (husband, Kyle) Austin of Shirley and Cathy (husband, William) Haviland of Shirley; seven grandchildren, Brent and Bryce Robertson, Brad, Jason and Rebecca Austin and Derek and Jackie Haviland; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Robertson, Jr.; two sisters, Beverly Foster and Sharon Halpin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Norma West, Joan Walker, Betty Beaty and Marlene Robertson.
Funeral services were July 28 at Shirley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jenny Charles officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with full military grave side rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was July 27 at the funeral home.

Kylie Ann Bricker

Kylie Ann Bricker, infant daughter of Jonathan and Genesis (Kluesner) Bricker of Anderson, died July 21 at Payton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
Survivors include her grandparents, Gerald and Lark Bricker of Wilkinson and David and Tammy Kluesner of Dubuque, Iowa; great-grandparents, Gene and Ann Bricker of Wilkinson and Jim and Carol Kluesner of Farley, Iowa, and Theresa Noah of Connersville; and an uncle, Jeremy (wife, Kelsi) Bricker of Wilkinson.
Funeral services were July 27 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Tom Wiles officiating. Burial followed at Harlan Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was July 26 at the funeral home.
Lois M. Jackson
April 7, 1921 - August 2, 2010
Lois M. Jackson, 89, of Knightstown, died Aug. 2 at Regency Place in Greenfield.
She was born April 7, 1921, in Science Hill, Ky., a daughter of the late James and Sarah Loveall.
Mrs. Jackson worked for Dr. George McClarnon, Western Electric in Indianapolis and served as a house parent at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home. She was known as a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and talking with friends over coffee.
Survivors include four sons, Donald (wife, Jeanette) Jackson, Edward (wife, Carol) Jackson, Steven (wife, Karen) Jackson and Rick (wife, Phyllis) Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Wells Reed; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Jackson; three sisters, Ollie Mae Moore, Gertie Trent and Dorothy Snedigar; and two brothers, James Loveall and Paul Loveall.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home.

Velma I. Paddock
April 26, 1927 - July 27, 2010
Velma I. Paddock, 83, of Greenfield, formerly of Hagerstown, died July 27 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born April 26, 1927, in Maple Valley, a daughter of the late Willis S. and Bessie V. (Hess) Overman.
Mrs. Paddock was a member of Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren and the Indiana State Nurses Association. She worked at Naval Avionics and Eli Lilly. She also served as a nurse for a Hagerstown doctor and at Friends Fellowship in Richmond. A 1945 Knightstown High School graduate, she was also a member of Millville Ladies Aid. Mrs. Paddock also graduated in 1960 from Marion County Hospital of Nursing.
Survivors include her husband, Charles D. Paddock of Greenfield; a daughter, Carol Paddock of Indianapolis; a son, Stephen C. Paddock of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, David and Daniel Peck; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Sue Paddock; two brothers, Rex Overman and Glen Overman; and a sister, Virginia Overman.
Funeral services were July 31 at Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown with Pastor Paula Ulrich officiating. Burial followed at Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Visitation was July 30 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.

Sylvia S. Bates

Sylvia S. Bates, 74, of Dublin, died July 27 at her home.
She was born May 1, 1936, in Beattyville, Ky., a daughter of the late Richard and Viola (Webb) Smith.
Mrs. Bates was valedictorian of her 1955 high school class in Loveland, Ohio. She moved from Hamilton, Ohio, to Dublin in 1961. An active member of Dublin Gospel Mission Church, she enjoyed working with the youth group and vacation Bible school programs there. Mrs. Bates was also a member of the Do Gooders Club, volunteered at the Dublin Community Club and provided home care for the elderly. She lived her life by the motto, "You make a living by what you get. You may a life by what you give."
Survivors include three children, Tonda (husband, John) Mears of Felton, Del., Dennis J. (wife, Michelle) Bates of New Castle and Mark (wife, Lisa) Bates of Dublin; 12 grandchildren, Logan, Avery (wife, Kelsey) and Broden Mears, Eric (wife, Beth) and Ryan (wife, Jessica) Bates, Carly Holliday and Steven, Mitchell, Ashley, Jessica, Zach and Ben-Ben Bates; and four great-grandchildren, Brayden Mears and Brayden, Addison and Carter Bates.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Bates. Private funeral services will be conducted at the family’s convenience. Burial will take place at Flannery Cemetery in McKee, Ky.
