Mary Evelyn Patton

Mary Evelyn Patton, 93, of Greenfield, formerly of Knightstown, died July 13 at Regency Place in Greenfield.
She was born July 7, 1915, in Marion, a daughter of the late Firman and Gladys (Larrison) Kaufman.
Mrs. Patton assisted her husband, Curtis, in operated Patton’s IGA grocery store in Knightstown for 25 years. She was a member of the Shirley Euchre Club, Knightstown BPW, Priscilla Club, Knightstown Friends Church, Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood and the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Lavon (husband, Rex) Sigler of Cambridge City; two sons, Jim (wife, Marcia) Patton of Indianapolis and Joe (wife, Penny) Patton of Knightstown; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 stepgreat-grandchild; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; three brothers, Paul Kaufman, Ralph Kaufman and Dale Kaufman; and a sister, Opal Doolittle.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown Friends Church or the American Lung Association.
Dorthy M. Gorman
Oct. 1, 1929 – July 14, 2008
Dorthy M. (Keck) Gorman, 78, of Knightstown, died July 14 at her home.
She was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Grant City, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Adams) Keck.
Mrs. Gorman retired from the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown after 21 years of service.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Hubbard of Shelbyville, Judith (husband, Glen) McDonald of San Bernadino, Cal., and Vickie (husband, Steve) Moore of Spiceland; a son, Danny (wife, Rowena) Gorman of New Castle; two brothers, Donald Keck of Markleville and James Keck of Anderson; and two sisters, Lois Jane Rogers of Knightstown and Sandra Sue Williams of Frankton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Gorman; a daughter, Becky George; and two sisters, Wanda Lester and Bertha McGowen.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Mervin Kilmer officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
David Allen Percell
Jan. 9, 1940 – July 12, 2008
David Allen Percell, 68, of Arlington, died July 12 at his home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Rushville, a son of the late Payton and Ethel (Childers) Percell.
Mr. Percell lived in Arlington most of his life, having graduated from Rush County High School in 1958. He was a member of Hannegan Christian Church, the Rushville American Legion post and the Arlington Liars Corner. He was a retired truck driver. Mr. Percell was an avid racing fan.
Survivors include three daughters, Tina (husband, Bradd) Stamm of Carthage, Janet Rush of Indianapolis and Cindi Percell of Columbus; a brother, Danny (wife, Linda) Percell of Rushville; three sisters, Diann Clark of Fort Wayne, Doreen (husband, Ronnie) Jarman of New Salem and Debbie (husband, James) Evans of Rushville; and three grandchildren, Courtney Percell of Columbus, Erinn Stamm of Carthage and Kendall Stamm of Carthage.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce (Mann) Percell; and a brother.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Warren Engel officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the funeral home.
Steven D. Rozzell
May 21, 1951 – Aug. 11, 2008
Steven D. Rozzell, 57, of Spiceland, died August 11 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born May 21, 1951, a son of the late Lawrence Dale Rozzell and Julia (Railsback) Rozzell Kaufman.
Mr. Rozzell was a truck driver for Harvest Land Co-op, Inc., in Mt. Summit. He also served as a professional clown and was, at one time, a volunteer fireman with the Wilkinson Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include a sister, Kathy (husband, Daniel) Bowman of Greenfield; a niece, Michelle Bowman-Weidner of Mesa, Ariz.; and a nephew, Michael Bowman of Greenfield.
Funeral services will take place at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson at a later date. Visitation is Wednesday, August 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Steven Rozzell Memorial with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Doris Leanna Jackson
May 17, 1922 – Aug. 11, 2008
Doris Leanna Jackson, 86, of Carthage, died August 11 at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield.
She was born May 17, 1922, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Caroll Averitt and Icy (Van-Meter) Chance.
Mrs. Jackson lived in Carthage most of her life. She was known as someone who helped the sick and shut-ins by taking them food or driving them to doctor appointments. Mrs. Jackson was also a restaurant owner.
Survivors include a so n, John (wife, Helen) Geise of Syracuse; a daughter, Kathleen Hammack of Temple, Tex.; two grandsons, Greg Geise of Fort Wayne and Jeff Davis of Ohio; and a granddaughter, Debbie Dashiell of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Geise; her second husband, Carl Jackson; a son, Mike Geise; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. on Friday, August 15. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
George L. Slaven
July 2, 1930 – Aug. 1, 2008
George L. Slaven, 78, of New Castle, died August 1 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born July 2, 1930, in Monticello, Ky., a son of the late Dewey and Mary (Daffron) Slaven.
Mr. Slaven retired in 1989 from Firestone Corporation in Noblesville after 33 years of service. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and attending car shows. Mr. Slaven also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Savage) Slaven; a daughter, Brenda (husband, Pete) Lowe of New Castle; two sons, Rick (wife, Donna) Slaven of New Castle and Dale (wife, Darlene) Slaven of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Dan (wife, Kim) Slaven of Greensburg, Matt (wife, Cindy) Slaven of Greensburg, and Austin and Tanner Lowe of New Castle; two step-grandchildren, Joshua (wife, Chandra) Carter and Bradley Upchurch, both of New Castle; a great-grandson, George Hunter Slaven of Greensburg; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Mari and Sammie Brewsaugh of Greensburg and Keegan Carter of New Castle; two brothers, Lewis (wife, Naomi) Slaven of New Castle and Ray (wife, Joyce) Slaven of Fairland; a sister, Irene Blue of Fremont, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Sue Slaven; four brothers, Ernie, Robert, Walter and Cecil Slaven; and a sister, Ann Slaven.
Funeral services were August 5 at Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Charles Dugger officiating. Burial followed at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition, in New Castle. Full military graveside rites were conducted by New Castle American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W. Post 1282. Visitation was August 5 at the funeral home.
Sheila D. McCune
Oct. 28, 1952 – Aug. 3, 2008
Sheila D. McCune, 55, of Knightstown, died August 3 at Henry County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 28, 1952, in Greenfield, a daughter of the late Durward C. and Dorothy Mabel (Price) Brewer.
Ms. McCune retired from a veterinary clinic in Carmel. She also worked at Village Pantry and Sid Harvey Heating & Cooling in Indianapolis. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time on her computer. Ms. McCune also enjoyed spending time with her guinea pig, puppy and fish.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa D. Judd of Milan; a granddaughter, Mykayla B. Judd; a sister, Twila Walker; a niece, Julie Walker; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Hedrick.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Judd and Benjamin McCune; and a sister, Tamara Hedrick.
Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheila McCune Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
