Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Evelyn Karpinski

July 3, 1917 – July 3, 2008

Evelyn (Young) Karpinski, 91, of Shirley, died July 3 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.

She was born July 3, 1917, in Brown Township, Hancock County, a daughter of the late Robert C. and Stella (Walker) Young.

Mrs. Karpinski retired from Delco Remy Plant 3 in Anderson in 1971. She was a member of Local 662 and Wilkinson Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Young of Greenfield; two sons, Jack (wife, Vicky) Friddle of Greenfield and Roger (wife, Sherry) Rigney of Wilkinson; a sister, June Zirkle of Chesterfield; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Young of Markleville and Emogene Young of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Yong, Robert Young and Gerald Young; two sisters, Doris Johns and Ruth Scott; and a grandchild, Teresa Jo Brumfield.

Funeral services were July 8 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Tracy Wright officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was July 7 at the funeral home.

Mary Frances Hamm

Oct. 11, 1941 – June 28, 2008

Mary Frances Hamm, 66, of Shirley, died June 28 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born Oct. 11, 1941, in Morehead, Ky., a daughter of the late Ernest and Shirlda (Burton) Whisman.

Mrs. Hamm moved to Henry County in 1957 and was employed as a nursing assistant for 23 years at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was later employed as a custodian at Kennard Elementary School. She was known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Hamm was a member of Kennard Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa (husband, David) Frank of Fishers and Alisa (husband, Joseph) Littleton of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren, Chuck, Katie and Emily Littleton, all of Morehead, and Benjamin and Adam Frank, both of Fishers; three sisters, Juanita Sweeney of Georgetown, Ky., Ina Mae Stacey of Morehead and Bonnie Mason of Morehead; five brothers, Glen Whisman, David Whisman, Jack Whisman, James Whisman and Woodrow Whisman, all of Morehead; and several nieces and nephews, including Louise Hopkins of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Hamm; and a brother, Howard Whisman.

Funeral services were July 1 at Kennard Baptist Church with Pastors Randle Morris and Dillard Cole officiating. Visitation was July 1 at the church. Funeral services in Kentucky are at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Northcutt and Son Funeral Home in Morehead. Visitation was 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial followed at Hogg Cemetery in Morehead. Memorial contributions may be made to Kennard Baptist Church with envelopes available at the church. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown is handling local arrangements.

Nola Edith Spence

Jan. 4, 1927 – June 30, 2008

Nola Edith Spence, 81, of Carthage, died June 30 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Logan.

Mrs. Logan was a member of Carthage Early Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed growing flowers. She was known as a devoted wife and mother and she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Loran (wife, Judy) Spence of Monticello, Ky., and Larry (wife, Lisa) Spence of Carthage; a daughter, Sharon (husband, Russell) Kline of Carthage; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Spence; and nine siblings.

Funeral services are Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Peter Casalino officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the funeral home.

Leonard G. Sullivan

April 16, 1922 – June 29, 2008

Leonard G. Sullivan, Jr., 86, of Morristown, formerly of Carthage, died June 29 in Morristown.

He was born April 16, 1922, in Hancock County, a son of the late Leonard and Daisy (Moore) Sullivan, Sr.

Mr. Sullivan was a Rush County farmer all his life. He was 1940 Carthage High School graduate and a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage.

Survivors include a son, Robert J. (wife, Cheryl) Sullivan of Carthage; a daughter, Linda (husband, Bryan) McMahan of Carthage; a brother, Ronald D. (wife, Janet) Sullivan of Carthage; a sister, Phyllis Northam of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (Revolt) Sullivan; two sisters; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were July 2 at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial followed at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Visitation was July 1 at the funeral home.

Crystal J. Jenkins

Oct. 25, 1979 – July 8, 2008

Crystal Jenkins photo Crystal J. Jenkins, 28, formerly of Carthage, died July 8 in Indianapolis.

She was born Oct. 25, 1979, in Indianapolis, a daughter of Wayne and Sheila (Vorhies) Jenkins.

Miss Jenkins attended Knightstown High School and enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include two children, Connor T. Judd and Cayla R. Judd, both of Carthage; her parents, Wayne and Sheila Jenkins of Carthage; a stepsister, Kimberly of Arkansas; two stepbrothers, Dewayne and Shawn, both of Arkansas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were July 12 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Mark Tabb officiating. Visitation was July 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connor and Cayla Judd Educational Fund, in care of Citizens State Bank, 475 N. McCullum St., Knightstown, IN 46148, or Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

George E. Addison

Feb. 5, 1930 – July 9, 2008

George E. Addison, 78, of New Castle, died July 9.

He was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Yorktown, a son of the late Edward M. and Alma Viola Addison.

Mr. Addison was a 1948 Kennard High School graduate, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He retired from Bridgestone-Firestone after 29 years of service. Mr. Addison was an avid wildlife photographer, who also enjoyed attending New Castle High School girls’ basketball games. He also enjoyed watching Indiana Fever WNBA and Indiana University basketball games. An avid horseshoe player, Mr. Addison was a Georgia State Horseshoe Pitching champion. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Glenda Kaye (husband, Joe) Hyden of Tennessee, Beth Addison of New Castle, Judy Harlow of New Castle and Vanessa (husband, Terri) Gobbel of Pennsylvania; three sons, George (wife, Elaine) Addison, Jr., of New Castle, Bud Addison of Indianapolis and Phillip (wife, Debbie) Addison of New Castle; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Adams of New Castle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eileen (Roudebush) Addison; and a granddaughter, Cindy Robinson.

Funeral services were July 11 at Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle. Visitation was July 11 at the funeral home.

Adrienne Jarrett

Sept. 16, 1923 – July 10, 2008

Adrienne Jarrett, 84, of Kennard, died July 10.

She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Rush County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Laura (Stacy) Hamm.

Mrs. Jarrett was a member of Markleville Christian Church, an active member of the Willing Workers, a participant in youth group activities and a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura (husband, Tony) Martin of Greenfield; a son, Michael Jarrett of New Castle; three grandchildren, Abigail Martin, Adam (wife, Amy) Martin and Todd Jarrett; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Jarrett, Kalob Martin and Maddox Martin; a brother, Phillip Hamm of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jarrett; a son, John Jarrettt; a grandson, Tadd Jarrett; two sisters, Marie Mohler and Ruby Maple; and two brothers, Rodney Hamm and Virgil Hamm.

Funeral services were July 12 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Shawn Easterling officiating. Burial followed at Harlan Cemetery. Visitation was July 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
