G. Edwin Robertson
Sept. 7, 1927 – March 10, 2008
G. Edwin Robertson, 80, of Cedarcreek, Mo., formerly of the Wilkinson and Knightstown areas, died March 10 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Mo. He was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Smithton, Pa., a son of the late Andrew T. and Thelma A. (Hough) Robertson.
Mr. Robertson was a Youngwood (Pa.) High School graduate who enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and joined in the occupation of China. He married Marilyn Johnson on April 9, 1948, in Riverside, Cal.
He earned two patents at the Ravenna Arsenal in Ravenna, Ohio, while employed there as a machine designer. Mr. Robertson served as a Boy Scout troop leader and later chaired the District Camping and Activities Committee for the Boy Scouts Western Reserve Council. He worked for 27 years in the Allison-Campbell Div., retiring as regional sales manager in 1985. Mr. Robertson moved from Henry County to Taney County (Mo.) in 1985 to pursue fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, T. Edwin (wife, Brenda) Robertson of Kennard; a daughter, Lynda (husband, Keith) Lucas of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Ron Robertson of Greensburg, Pa.; two sisters, Betty (husband, Tom) Gaertner of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Cathy (husband, Barry) Sutor of Hunker, Pa.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ross H. Robertson.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church in Shirley.
Barbara Jean Sitton
Sept. 4, 1937 – April 8, 2008
Barbara Jean Sitton, 70, of Wilkinson, died April 8 at Kindred Hospital Indiana South in Indianapolis.
She was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Shirley, a daughter of the late Dallas and Elva Lucile (Elliott) Rigney.
Mrs. Sitton was a member of Shirley United Methodist Church and Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492. She worked at Western Electric in Indianapolis.
Survivors include four sons, Brent (wife, Teresa) Sitton of Pendleton, Jay (wife, Kristina) Sitton of Greenfield, Jason (wife, Kelley) Sitton and Trent Sitton of Wilkinson; six grandchildren, Andrea Jo, Kaley, Mckinzie, Madeline, Ella, and Isaiah Sitton; a brother, Donald E. Rigney of Greenfield; and two nephews.
Funeral services were April 12 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Kevin Stiles officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was April 11 at the funeral home.
William Rex Sweet
March 5, 1931 – April 9, 2008
William Rex Sweet, 77, of Patricksburg., formerly of Carthage, died April 9 at Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.
He was born March 5, 1931, in Somerset, Ky., a son of the late Lewis and Marie (Thompson) Sweet.
Mr. Sweet was a retired Carthage police officer. He married Charlotte Padgett on Dec. 8, 1983. Mr. Sweet served with the Rush County Civil Defense for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of Patricksburg; two sons, Bobby Sweet of Florida and Davie Sweet of Indianapolis; a daughter, Peggy Kay Kline of Anderson; two brothers, Bobby Sweet of Rushville and Danny Chew of Knightstown; a sister, Bonnie Brown of Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; two sisters; and a brother.
Funeral services were April 14 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Ray Thompson officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was April 13 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown.
Ivan Pitts
Nov. 1, 1914 – April 11, 2008
Ivan Pitts, 93, of Shirley, died at Bethany Health Care in Anderson.
He was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Wisconsin, a son of the late Fred and Margaret Pitts.
Mr. Pitts retired from the paper mill in Carthage, where he worked for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Pitts of Falmouth and David Leroy Pitts of Indianapolis; a daughter, Linda Pitts-Hankins of Waldron; two stepdaughters, Loretta Alspaugh of Pendleton and Deborah Higginbotham of Pendleton; and a stepson, Dick Simmons of New Castle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Pitts in 1984; his second wife, Reva Pitts in 2004; a daughter, Sandra Hankins; six brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were April 14 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation was April 14 at the funeral home.
Ruth Pauline Lowder
May 9, 1916 – April 11, 2008
Ruth Pauline Lowder, 91, of Knightstown died April 11 at Brandywine Health Care Center in Greenfield.
She was born May 9, 1916, in Montpelier, a daughter of the late Floyd C. and Verna (Weave) Hardy.
Mrs. Lowder was a member of Raysville Friends Church. She retired from the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (husband, Randall) Miller of Knightstown and Sallie Anthony of Rushville; a brother, Gene Hardy of Logansport; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Lowder; four brothers, Paul, Roby, Wayne and Kenneth Hardy; and a sister, Helen Fennell. Funeral services were April 15 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Bob McMillan officiating. Burial took place in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was April 15 at the funeral home.
Eleanor M. Rumler
April 27, 1935 – April 11, 2008
Eleanor M. (Willis) Rumler, 72, of Shirley, died April 11 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born April 27, 1935, in Shirley, a daughter of the late Lester A. and Gladys V. (Thompson) Willis.
Ms. Rumler retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis and was a member of U.A.W. Local #1111. She was also a member of Shirley Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly A. (husband, Terry) Owens of Noblesville; two sons, William “Bill” (wife, Tammy) Rumler Jr. of Shirley and Bart A. (wife, Amy) Rumler of Huntington; two sisters, Ruth E. Loar of Indianapolis and Laura E. Willis of Indianapolis; seven brothers, Joe Willis of Markleville, Roy Willis of Arizona, Jerry Willis of Huger Heights, Ohio, Denzil Willis of Wilkinson, David Willis of Peru and Jerome Willis of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Sam Willis.
Funeral services will take place at a later time. Arrangements are being handled by Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice.
Robert David Hall
April 28, 1939 – April 12, 2008
Robert David “Dave” Hall, 68, of Knightstown, formerly of Carthage, died Saturday, April 12, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born April 28, 1939, in New Lexington, Ohio, a son of Robert Benson and Mae (Rowe) Hall.
Mr. Hall retired from Ford Motor Company after 31 years of service. He was a classic car enthusiast and a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152. He was also a past master of Rush County Masonic Lodge #580.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Hall of Knightstown; two sons, Robert Douglas (wife, Velma) Hall of Inez, Ky., and Robert Daryl (wife, Susan) Hall of Greenfield; two stepsons, Randy Earl (wife, Aundrea) Dailey of New Castle and David Scott (wife, Veronica) Dailey of Lewisville; and 18 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Mitchell.
Funeral services were April 16 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Eric Hickman officiating. Burial followed in Washington Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation was April 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Henry County Cancer Society.
