David William Mokew

David William Mokew, 47, of Shirley, died March 8 in Shirley.
He was born May 12, 1960, in Sacramento, Cal., a son of Bill and Bonnie Mokew.
Mr. Mokew was a residential and commercial painter. He was known for his outgoing personality.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Wainscott) Mokew of Walton, Ky.; a son, Billy Mokew of Shirley; a daughter, Cherie Mokew of Sacramento, Cal.; three stepdaughters, Paula Bemish of Shirley, Patty Wessel of Naples, Fla., and Cynthia Wessel of Shirley; a sister, Kathy Brelje of Sacramento, Cal.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are pending at Stumpff Funeral Home in Kimberling City, Mo. Burial will follow in Green Forest, Ark. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Shirley.
James E. Copeland
March 3, 1929 – March 9, 2008
James E. Copeland, 79, of Spiceland, died March 9 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born March 3, 1929, a son of the late Carroll and Gladys (Chew) Copeland.
Mr. Copeland was a 1947 Spiceland High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Copeland married the former Patricia Buchanan on April 28, 1950, in Carthage. He was a farmer and a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Shirley Masonic Lodge. He was known as a loving husband, father and grandfather and a 28-year volunteer camp ranger at Camp Ada, a Girl Scout camp near Knightstown and Greensboro.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Buchanan) Copeland; a son, Joseph D. (wife, May Ann) Copeland of Greenfield; a daughter, Mary Kay (husband, Brian) Conley of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Joseph D. Copeland, Jr., Debra and Laura; five siblings, William (wife, Stella) Copeland of Lewisville, Max (wife, Janet) Copeland of Florida, Paul Copeland of New Castle, Jonell Green of New Castle and Richard Copeland of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dale Copeland; and a sister, Carolyn Addison.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Marion L. Hickman officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with full military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the funeral home.
Linda Gale Ohlemiller
March 17, 1946 – March 18, 2008
Linda Gale Ohlemiller, 62, of Muncie died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
She was born March 17, 1946, in Whitley City, Ky., a daughter of Josh and Illa Keith.
Mrs. Ohlemiller grew up in Indiana and was a 1964 Mooreland High School graduate. She attended Ball State University and earned a degree from Indiana Business College. Known as a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Ohlemiller managed her father’s convenience store in New Castle and also worked for Dr. Robert Reilly in Muncie. She served as president of the Muncie Jaycee Women and was one of the first women to join the previously male-only Muncie Jaycees. Mrs. Ohlemiller maintained a large doll collection and was known as an avid homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Melissa; two sons, Justin Ohlemiller and Brent (wife, Kelly) Lindley, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Bruce (wife, Debbie) Keith of Middletown; four nieces; four nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were at Macer-Hall Funeral Home in New Castle. Burial took place in Mooreland Cemetery.
Margaret Frances Leslie
Sept. 6, 1940 – March 20, 2008
Margaret Frances (Jones) Leslie, 67, of New Castle, died March 20 at Community Hospital in Anderson.
She was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Monticello, Ky., a daughter of the late Henry Spencer and Lyda B. (Anderson) Jones.
Mrs. Leslie attended South Side Church of the Nazarene in New Castle. She worked in public service for many years, and also worked at the Courier-Times and Indianapolis Star. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, reading, computer games and crocheting. An avid Indianapolis Colts fan, she also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her dog, Bow.
Survivors include her husband, James Leslie of New Castle; four daughters, Peggy Humbles of Shelbyville, Cheryl Maloyed of Greencastle, Robin (husband, Richard) Swim of New Castle and Debby Leslie of New Castle; two sons, Timothy Junior (wife, Leslie) Leslie of New Castle and Allen (wife, Tina) Leslie of Goshen; 15 grandchildren, Linny Humbles, Chelle (Humbles) Cox, Timothy Allen Leslie, Kailey Leslie, Reba Leslie, Jamie Maloyed, Angelica Bowman, Ashley Maloyed, James Stanley Leslie, Cody Thor Leslie, Drew Swim, Trace Byers, Lacey Hammonds, Mekayla Hammonds and Austin Hammonds; 10 great-grandchildren, Aaron Humbles, Ayden Humbles, Raistlin Cox, Selina Cox-Humbles, Nigel Humbles, Logan Williams, Jace Phillips, Katelyn Leslie, Cristen Leslie, Terris Maloyed and Madyson Olsen; a sister, Doris Townsend of Laporte, Tex.; a brother, Henry Spencer “Bobby” (wife, Peggy) Jones, Jr., of Kennard; a sister-in-law, Darlene Koon of Rushville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were March 24 at Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Michael Dees officiating. Burial followed in Green Hills Memory Garden. Visitation took place prior to funeral services.
Mary Winslow
Sept. 20, 1932 – Feb. 19, 2008
Mary Winslow, 75, of Hammond, died February 19.
She was born Sept. 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Henry and Debra White of Manilla.
Mrs. Winslow graduated from Ball State University in 1953. She married John S. Winslow of Carthage and the couple later moved to Hammong. Mrs. Winslow taught elementary school from 1963-1994. After her retirement, she enjoyed visiting her grandchildren in San Diego, Cal. She also enjoyed her grandsons’ annual summer trips to visit her.
Survivors include a son, Bentley Winslow of Munster; Bryan Winslow of San Diego, Cal.; three grandson, Lance Winslow, Mike Winslow and Ian Fernandez, all of San Diego; a brother, Lee White of Manilla; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Johnny; a brother, Tom White; and her husband, John Winslow.
Funeral services are Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the funeral home.
Larry Wayne Jordan
March 17, 1945 – March 2, 2008
Larry Wayne Jordan, 62, of Amherst, Va., formerly of Carthage, died March 2 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia.
He was born March 17, 1945, in Rushville, a son of the late John Jordan and Iris (DeWitt) Jordan.
Mr. Jordan was raised in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School in 1964. He was a four-year letterman on the Carthage Raiders basketball team. Mr. Jordan broke the Rush County scoring record with 1,512 points. That record was previously held by Lawrence Parks of Arlington, who had accumulated 1,499 points. In 1972, he moved to Virginia and later graduated from a community college. Mr. Jordan served as an electronics engineer for C.B. Fleet. After retirement, he served as a volunteer animals transporter for Wildlife Rehab Center in Waynesboro, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Annette (DeWilde) Jordan of Lynchburg, Va.; his mother, Iris Jordan; a daughter, Erin “Katy” Palmer of Newport News, Va.; a sister, Marcia Johnson of Scottsville, Va.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Richard McLoud of Amherst, Va.; a sister-in-law, Erin Adams of Amherst, Va.; a niece, Ashleigh Adams of Amherst; and a nephew, Smith Adams of Amherst; a brother-in-law, Mark (wife, Holly) DeWilde of Ithaca, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachael Lin Cain.
Jean M. Woodmansee
Nov. 5, 1927 – March 12, 2008
Jean Margaret Woodmansee, 80, of Middletown, died March 12 at Middletown Health Care.
She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter of the late Everett and Eleanor (Cools) Blair.
Ms. Woodmansee graduated from East Detroit High School and was a member of Christ Fellowship Church near Knightstown. She was a retired nurse’s assistant who worked for many years as a home health care provider. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, David McColl of Florida and James McColl of Michigan; a daughter, Mary Cordle of Middletown; two brothers, James Blair of Michigan and Bert Blair of Texas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Woodmansee.
Funeral services were March 15 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Bill Roberts officiating. There was no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Jean Woodmansee in care of Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
