Vernon Bruce Kiser

Vernon Bruce Kiser, 79, of Shirley, died January 7 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Mercer County, Ohio, a son of the late Oral and Helen (McMullen) Kiser.
Mr. Kiser was a Kennard High School graduate who later worked as a purchaser for Gas America for 15 years. A Shirley Lions Club member and former Lions district governor, he coached numerous high school and Pony League baseball teams. He also played semi-professional baseball.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (husband, Steve) Snider of Shirley; two sons, Mick (wife, Renee) Kiser of Greenfield and Gary Kiser of Shirley; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor (husband, Frankie) Cleek of Shirley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Bruce Kiser.
Funeral services are Thursday, January 10, at 11 a.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Charlie Riggs officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Indiana Chapter.
Virginia L. Ware
July 10, 1931 – Jan. 8, 2008
Virginia L. (Collins) Ware, 76, of Greenfield, died January 8 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born July 10, 1931, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Claude and Irene (Day) Collins.
Mrs. Ware retired from Avon Products after 20 years as a district sales manager. She was a member of Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She and her husband, Richard, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on December 31, 2007.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Ware of Greenfield; two sons, Gregory L. Ware of Greenfield and Brent L. Ware of Indianapolis; a grandson, Brendon Lee Ware of Indianapolis; a brother, Rev. Luther O. (wife, Patty) Collins of Arizona; a sister, Beulah Marie Collins of Florida; a step-granddaughter, Erica Eason of Indianapolis; her stepmother, Louise Collins; a half-sister, Ruth Young; and a half-brother, Claude O. Collins.
Funeral services were January 13 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Private burial will follow at a later date. Visitation was January 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Yellow Rose of Methodist Hospice.
Homer “Rusty” McDonald
Nov. 7, 1947 – Jan. 8, 2008
Homer “Rusty” McDonald, 60, of Knightstown, died January 8 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born born Nov. 7, 1947, in New Castle, a son of the late Homer and Bertha (Logan) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald was a very proud husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known as a caring and generous person who never met a stranger. He served on the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation school board from 1996-2004. A very patriotic person, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He earned numerous service commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter Expert, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge Medal and Purple Heart. Mr. McDonald enjoyed buying and selling farm machinery. He owned and operated McDonald’s Farm Equipment. An active member of Knightstown United Methodist Church, he retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1985. Mr. McDonald loved watching westerns, wrestling and sports.
Survivors include his wife, Leah (Grandison) McDonald of Knightstown; two sons, Grant (wife, Cynthia) McDonald of Knightstown and Jonathon (wife, April) McDonald of Carthage; a daughter, Jennifer McDonald of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Tyler Helderbrand, Gavin “Vinny” McDonald and Reese McDonald; several brothers and sisters-in-law, Marilyn (husband, Emory) Reece, Harry (wife, Bonita) Grandison, Hugh (wife, Betty) Grandison, Paula (husband, Scott) Way, Virginia (husband, Lloyd) Dunaway, and Marjorie (husband, Terry) Adamson; an aunt, Norma Richmond; an uncle, Art (wife, Myrtle) Logan; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special military friend, Billy (wife, Voleta) Yarbrough.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hope Maria McDonald; and an infant sister, Jeannette McDonald.
Funeral services were January 12 at Knightstown United Methodist Church with Terry Adamson and Rev. Jan Heseman officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 conducted full military graveside rites. Visitation was January 11 at Knightstown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rusty McDonald Memorial Fund. Arrangements were handled by Hinsey-Brown Funeral service in Knightstown.
Marcia Darlene Woods
June 11, 1952 – Jan. 9, 2008
Marcia Darlene Woods, 55, of Cartersville, Ga., died January 9 at Cartersville Medical Center.
She was born June 11, 1952, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Earnest and Jessie (Fadely) Pitts.
Mrs. Woods lived in Cartersville, Ga., for 16 years. She was a 1970 Knightstown High School graduate, who enjoyed gold mining, scrapbooking and many others crafts. On Sept. 13, 1985, she married James Michael Woods. Mrs. Woods was a sales representative for Verizon.
Survivors include her husband, James Michael Woods, of Cartersville; a sister, Kathie Rummel of Knightstown; and three brothers, Carl (wife, Rhonda) Pitts of Mooresville, N.C., Bill (wife, Judy) Pitts of North Augusta, Ga., and Earnest Hubert Pitts of Michigan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Kay Neubert.
Funeral services were January 15 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was January 14 at the funeral home.
Charles C. Caudill, Jr.
Dec. 2, 1925 – Jan. 11, 2008
Charles C. Caudill, Jr., 82, of Knightstown, died January 11 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Morehead, Ky., a son of the late Charles and Ida (Quesenberry) Caudill.
Mr. Caudill grew on a farm and farmed for several years. A 50-year member of Golden Rule Lodge #16 F&AM, he was known for several accomplishments within the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Caudill became a Master Mason on Nov. 3, 1954 and was past master of Golden Rule Lodge in 1965. He was a member of the Knightstown York Ride Bodies since 1955. Mr. Caudill was also Royal Arch Mason of Knightstown Chapter #33, Cryptic Council #29, Knightstown Commandery #9, Knightstown Templar. He was Past High Priest of the Knightstown chapter, Past Illustrious Master of the Cryptic Council, past Commander of the Knightstown Commandery, member of the Indiana Priory – York Rite Cross of Honor, and a member of the Commandery National Champion Drill Teams. Mr. Caudill was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and First Friends Church of Knightstown. He was an operating engineer for 35 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golf and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Connie (Williamson) Caudill of Knightstown; three daughters, Nancy (husband, Rex) Huse of Mulberry, Jane (husband, Steve) Nastoff of Brookfield, Wis., and Cynthia (husband, Aaron) Pierson of New Castle; a son, Sam Caudill of Tipp City, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, Lucas Caudill, Ben Nastoff, Sgt. Joseph (wife, Doreen) Kissick, Erin Caudill, Justin Caudill, Phillip Kissick, Rebecca Nastoff, Brice Nastoff, Mary Beth Kissick, Allison Nastoff, Taylor Huse, Max Pierson and Elijah Pierson; six great-grandchildren, James, Melissa and Darren Morgan, Jayden Kissick, Ayden Hiner and Isabella Kissick; two brothers, Isaac (wife, Richelieu) Caudill of Winchester, Ky., and Robert (wife, Susan) Caudill of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Anna (husband, Maurice) Lewman of Knightstown; a sister-in-law, Lena Caudill of Knightstown; a brother-in-law, Jack Shore of Knightstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl and Leslie Caudill and Vernon Cox; and two sisters, Dorothy Basford and Anetia Shore.
Funeral services were January 15 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was January 14 at the funeral home. Masonic and Order of the Eastern Star services followed visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to First Friends Church of Knightstown with envelopes available at the funeral home.
James D. Gorman
April 5, 1943 – Jan. 11, 2008
James D. Gorman, 64, of Carthage, died January 11 in New Braunfels, TX.
He was born April 5, 1943, in Scioto County, Ohio, a son of Thomas M. and the late Tempa Elizabeth Gorman.
A lifelong Carthage resident, Mr. Gorman was a 1962 Carthage High School graduate. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1969. He married Sondra K. Todd on April 7, 1994. Mr. Gorman was a retired truck driver and transportation escort. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping and traveling. Mr. Gorman was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage, Rush Lodge #580 F&AM and was a past master there. His other memberships included Knightstown American Legion Post 152, Knightstown York Rite, Commandery Drill Team and the Blue River Cruisers Car Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra K. Gorman of Carthage; his father, Thomas M. Gorman of Carthage; two sons, James D. (wife, Gina) Gorman II of Carthage and J.D. (wife, Wendy) West of San Antonio, Tex.; four daughters, Melinda (husband, David) Guffey of Indianapolis, Angela (husband, Freeman) Poore of Rushville, Tina (husband, Michael) Nix of Tampa, Fla., and Theresa (husband, Terry) Howard of Shirley; two brothers, Thomas M. (wife, Betty) Gorman, Jr., of Adah, Penn., and Michael J. (wife, Marsha) Gorman of Carthage; three sisters, Brenda (husband, Bill) Merrell of Rushville, Ramona (husband, Sam) Cooper of Spring Hill, Fla., and Deanna (husband, Steve) Morgan of Milroy; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Brink Howard and Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Military rites will be conducted graveside. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, at the funeral home.
Gary D. Smith
Jan. 14, 1959 – Jan. 23, 2008
Gary D. Smith, 49, of Lewisville, died January 23 at his home.
He was born Jan. 14, 1959, in New Castle, a son of the late Osby and Nora (Guffey) Smith.
Mr. Smith lived in Carthage for several years before moving to Lewisville. He worked at Detroit Steel in Morristown for over 20 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching Indiana University basketball.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa (Hardwick) Smith; three children, Carrie Hardwick of Knightstown, Gary Smith, Jr., and Dusty Smith, both of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Taylor and Haley Hardeman, Morgan Smith and Jade Beavers; two sisters, Brenda (husband, James) Price of New Castle and Lisa (husband, Eddie) Smith of Lewisville; and two brothers, Jim (wife, Jill) Smith and Tracy (wife, Becky) Smith, both of Lewisville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Justin Price and Klayton Smith.
Funeral services were January 28 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville. Burial followed in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was January 28 at the funeral home.
