Elsie “Glenna” Miller

Dec. 3, 1931 – Nov. 24, 2007

Elsie “Glenna” Miller, 75, of Wilkinson, died November 24 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

She was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Morehead, Ky., a daughter of the late Grant and Angie (Ross) Riley.

Mrs. Miller retired from the Greenfield Reporter where she was a route carrier. She also worked at Indiana Knitwear in Greenfield. An avid quilter, she also enjoyed gardening and flowers. Mrs. Miller attended Bethel Holiness Church in Knightstown and was known as a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Willard “Todge” Miller of Wilkinson; a son, Darrell (wife, Tonda) Miller of Shirley; two daughters, Gae (husband, Mark) Becraft of Greenfield and Dinah (husband, Ron) Jackman of Sumner, Ill.; two brothers, Norman Riley of Morehead, Ky., and Jiles Riley of Greenfield; three sisters, Freda Russell and Betty Pollett of Alabama and Joan Riley of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Miller; four brothers, Homer Riley, Donald Riley, Ora Riley and Arnold Riley; and three sisters, Bea Clark, Eloise Riley and Darlene Logan.

Funeral services were November 28 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastors Darrell Miller and George Maloyed, Jr., officiating. Burial followed at Harlan Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was November 27 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice Unit.

Oliver C. “Ollie” Keen

Nov. 12, 1930 – Nov. 23, 2007

Oliver C. “Ollie” Keen, 77, of Knightstown, died November 23 at his home.

He was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Marion, a son of the late Charles L. Keen and Beulah Faye (Keesling) Pommel.

Mr. Keen worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable in Marion for almost 20 years. He then worked for Marsh Foods as a truck driver for 25 years before retiring in 1992. Mr. Keen enjoyed volunteering at CKS Railroad in Knightstown. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Knightstown.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara L. (Hacker) Keen of Knightstown; two daughters, Marilyn (husband, Terry) Ellis of Daleville and Kim A. Baker of Carroll, Iowa; three sons, Bob O. Keen of La Otto, Brian J. (wife, Chris) Keen of Avilla and Thomas C. Baker of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert E. (wife, Vickie) Keen of Marion; and an aunt, Nina Ellis of Greentown.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Center Christian Cemetery. Visitation was November 27 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Indiana Cancer Center or Hospice of Hancock County with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Elmer L. Reeves

Nov. 16, 1931 – Dec. 3, 2007

Elmer L. Reeves, 76, of rural Knightstown, died December 3 at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis.

He was born Nov. 16, 1931, in Henry County, a son of the late Carroll and Ethel (O’Neal) Reeves. Mr. Reeves retired from Delco Remy in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Anna (Shannon) Reeves of Knightstown; two daughters, Karen (husband, Chris) Core of Indianapolis and Lora (husband, Scott) Smith of Hagerstown; two sons, David (wife, Cherie) Reeves of Pendleton and Greg (wife, Jill) Reeves of Markleville; two sisters, Lora (husband, Charles) Spargur of Indianapolis and Linda (husband, Paul) Wilkes of Bloomfield; a brother, Dean Reeves of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Brandi Smith, Brittany Reeves, Sydney Paschal, Matthew Reeves and Jarod Reeves; and two great-grandchildren, James Smith and Alexander Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Reeves.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Dan Motto officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.

Martha Ann Clair

Aug. 19, 1912 – Dec. 3, 2007

Martha Ann Clair, 95, a lifelong Raysville and Knightstown resident, died December 3 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Raysville, a daughter of the late John and Daisy (Wood) Clair.

Miss Clair was a beautician for many years in Knightstown. She was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church and she enjoyed local bridge and pinochle clubs. Miss Clair was known as a formidable card player. She also enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include a nephew, Richard D. (wife, Jessie) Clair of Mays; three great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard J. Clair; and a sister, Nellie Krug.

Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Jan Heseman officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Marlene Edington

Sept. 10, 1935 – Dec. 2, 2007

Marlene Edington, 72, of Knightstown, died December 2 at her home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Pervia (Zimmerman) Davis.

Mrs. Edington lived in Knightstown since 1979, but had lived at Ft. Benjamin Harrison; Terre Haute; Carthage; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Ferriday, La. A graduate of Indiana Business College, she worked as a legal secretary at Ross McCord Ice and Miller law firm, and also at Mayhill Publications in Knightstown from 1979-1986. Mrs. Edington was a member of the Symposium Club, Mays Study Club, Friends of Mineralogy, the Indiana Department of Paleontology, 500 Earth Science Club, Canadian Mineralogy Society, Cleveland Museum of Natural History Micromineral Society, the Dry Dredgers Fossil Club of Cincinnati and the Mid-American Paleontology Club. She also enjoyed ceramics, mineral collecting, fossil collecting and arts and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Dwaine H. Edington of Knightstown; two sons, Dwaine H. (wife, Lisa) Edington of Highland Ranch, Colo., and David K. Edington of Knightstown; a daughter, Susan J. Braunschweig of Knightstown; five grandchildren, Victoria R. Edington of Highland Ranch, Colo., Anne J. and Ryan M. Braunschweig of Knightstown, Timothy D. Edington of Macon, Ga., and Kyle W. Edington of Knightstown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Philip R. Davis; and a sister, Carolyn S. Adams.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow at Center Christian Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at the funeral home.

Margaret R. Smalley

July 3, 1915 – Dec. 9, 2007

Margaret R. (Williamson) Smalley, 92, of Middletown, died December 9 at Middletown Nursing and Rehab.

She was born July 3, 1915, in Shirley, a daughter of the late Carl and Gertrude (Hankins) Williamson.

Mrs. Smalley served as a house parent at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown. She was a member of Warrington Nazarene Church and also attended Shirley Friends Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Charity Whisman of Middletown; two sons, David (wife, Shirley) Smalley of New Castle and Gareth Smalley of Anderson; a sister, M. Pearl Williamson of Shirley; seven grandchildren, David F. Smalley, Sarah E. Whisman, E. Nathan Whisman, David T. Smalley, Richard A. Smalley, Rodney L. Smalley and Todd D. Smalley; and five great-grandchildren, Yolanda Whisman, Cheyenne Whisman, Adrean Whisman, David J. Smalley and Chandra Smalley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Smalley; a daughter, Sharon Rose Smalley; two brothers, Ellis Williamson and Paul Williamson; and a sister, Esther Williamson.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 13, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Paul Linton officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, at the funeral home.

William Allen Carnes

June 8, 1959 – Dec. 3, 2007

William Allen Carnes, 48, of Indianapolis, died December 3.

He was born June 8, 1959, in Quantico, Va., a son of Frank and the late Janet Sue (Allen) Carnes. Mr. Carnes graduated from Tri High School in 1978. He attended Ball State University, graduating in 1991 with a teaching degree. He taught at both Blue River and New Britton elementary schools. Most recently, he served as a private tutor for autistic children. Known as a talented singer, Mr. Carnes sang with the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus. He also sang at weddings and special occasions for friends and family. He was also a lay minister and director of music at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church. A former member of Spiceland Methodist Church, Mr. Carnes was most recently a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church in Noblesville. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children and family. He was known as a kind and generous person.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauren Sue Carnes of Fishers; a son, Nathan Allen Carnes of Fishers; a former wife, Becky (husband, John) Montgomery of Fishers; his father, Frank Carnes of New Castle; a sister, Susan (husband, David) Bennett of Brookville; three brothers, Jeffery (wife, Lycinda Marie) Carnes of Greenfield, David (wife, Kimberly) Carnes of New Castle and Donald (wife, Kimberly) Carnes of Lebanon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charlotte and Roscoe Allen; and his paternal grandparents, Lillian and Lucian Carnes.

Funeral services were December 8 at Main and Davis Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. Visitation was December 1 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
