James P. Dalton

James P. Dalton, 52, of Greenfield, died November 11 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born June 25, 1955, in New Castle, a son of Jesse and Mary (Bach) Dalton.
Mr. Dalton worked at Roll Coater in Greenfield for 24 years and was recently employed by the Indiana Department of Transportation in Greenfield. He enjoyed restoring antique gas pumps and tractors. He was an avid gardener and a member of Greensboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Dalton had many friends and was known as someone who would always lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Dalton of Greenfield; a daughter, Jennifer Dalton of Indianapolis; a son, Ross (fiance, Brittney Duell) Dalton of Danville; a stepson, Jacob Schmalz of Greenfield; a sister, Susi Bradford of Greensboro; five brothers-in-law, Denny McPherson of Indianapolis, Tim McPherson of Minnesota, Brent McPherson of Fountaintown, Steve McPherson of Indianapolis and Randy McPherson of Greenfield; a sister-in-law, Vickie Mattney of Greenfield; three nieces, Lindsay Couch of Knightstown, Wendee Pickett of Rushville and Jessica Downs of New Castle; and several step-nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Elizabeth Dalton and John and Grace Bach.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the funeral home.
Leon Melton
March 8, 1939 – Nov. 10, 2007
Leon Melton, 68, of Kennard, died November 10 at his home.
He was born March 8, 1939, in Albany, Ky., a son of the Alec and Maxine (Dailey) Melton.
Mr. Melton worked at Brooks Foods in Mt. Summit for over 29 years. He enjoyed working on cars, watching auto racing, working in the yard and visiting Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Melton of Kennard; six children, Yvonne Mead of Fortville, Edward Ray Harwood of Shirley, Kenny (wife, Karen) Harwood of Kennard, Tim (wife, Polly) Harwood of Shirley, Stephen Leon Melton of Kennard and Robert Frazier of Kennard; 18 grandchildren, Misty Mattsey, Michael Mead, Megan Mead, Adrian Compton, William Harwood, David Smith, Jeremy Harwood, Ray Ray Harwood, Sebastian Harwood, Johnny Harwood, Austin Harwood, Jennifer Vaughn, Steve Sanders, Jesse Sanders, Nicole Harwood, Brittany Harwood, Alyssa Melton and Stephanie Noel Melton; three brothers, George Melton of Springfield, Ill., Johnny Boykin of Albany, Ky., and Leo Boykin of Burkesville; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Obe Boykin; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Albany Ky. Visitation was November 13 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leon Melton Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Clara Bell Masters
April 23, 1907 – Nov. 8, 2007
Clara Bell Masters, a former Knightstown resident, died November 8 at Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield.
She was born April 23, 1907, in Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Thomas James and Sara Ann (Jeffries) Irwin.
Mrs. Masters was a lifelong Henry and Rush County resident. She attended school in Lewisville. Mrs. Masters was a homemaker who helped her husband, George, farm. She was a member of Knightstown Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth (wife, Sharlene Sue) Masters of Carthage; two grandchildren, Karen (husband, Phil) Brashaber of Rushville and Deborah (husband, Jeff) Turner of McCordsville; six great-grandchildren, Keith Brashaber, Julie Brashaber, James Brashaber, Elizabeth Turner, Daniel Turner and Stephen Turner; a nephew, George Robert Dillon of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a niece, Jane Ann Irwin of Delphos, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Deloris Irwin of New Castle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Masters; two sisters, Ruth Dillon and Mary Matthew; and a brother, James Irwin.
Funeral services were November 12 at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Bill Worrell officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was November 11 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown Christian Church or the Center Christian Church Building Fund.
Billy D. Hinton
July 26, 1925 – Nov. 16, 2007
Billy D. Hinton, 82, of Carthage, died November 16 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1925, in Haldeman, Ky., a son of the late Lewis O. and Dovie (Bowen) Hinton.
Mr. Hinton lived in Carthage most of his life. He was an electrician for C.C.A. He married Betty Whitfield on July 31, 1950. Mr. Hinton was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage and Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Mr. Hinton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he received a Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Whitfield) Hinton of Carthage; three daughters, Denise (husband, Gary) Spence of Carthage, Roxann (husband, Allen) Egilmez of Indianapolis and Jana (husband, Marc) Armstrong of Goodyear, Ariz.; three sisters, Lillie Rankin of Knightstown, Ruby Gorman of Lewisville and Mable Shelley of Rushville; and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Hinton and Robert Hinton. Funeral services were November 20 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastor Roger Campbell and Janet Shutt officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 152 and Knightstown VFW. Visitation was November 19 at the funeral home.
John L. McDonald
July 14, 1923 – Nov. 13, 2007
John L. McDonald, 84, of Knightstown, died November 13 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born July 14, 1923, in French Lick, a son of the late John L. and Delma A. (Burton) McDonald.
A 1942 graduate of Green Township High School in Commodore, Penn.,, Mr. McDonald was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. He then worked for General Electric in Erie, Penn., before working as a police officer at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Cal. He retired from there in 1986, after 27 years of service. While working at the laboratory, he guarded President John F. Kennedy when he visited the University of California at Berkley. An avid supporter of the National Rifle Association and a member of Southside Church of the Nazarene in New Castle.
Survivors include his wife, Lyla McDonald of Knightstown; a daughter, Barbara Hepfner of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Amy Sisler of Pennsylvania and Rebecca Hepfner of New Jersey; a sister, Delene Isenberg of Knightstown; four nieces, Patricia Fries of Sparks, Nev., Nancy Isenberg of Knightstown, Gail Chew of New Lisbon and Beth Jones of Wilkinson; a nephew, Mark Isenberg of Valley Falls, Kan.; two great-nephews, Edward and Matthew Fries of Nevada; two great-nieces, Ardis Cummings of Indianapolis and Breanna Jones of Wilkinson; and two great-great-nieces, Lauren Cummings of New Castle and Kayleena Fries of Sparks, Nev.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Farwell McDonald; and a great-nephew, William J. Cummings.
Funeral services were November 17 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. David Perry, Gene Bennett and Michael Dees officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was November 16 at the funeral home. Emma Ruth Cox
March 15, 1921 – Nov. 13, 2007
Emma Ruth Cox, 86, of rural Shirley, died November 13 at her home. She was born March 15, 1921, in Grant City, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles Conard and Mary Opal (Edwards) Fields.
Mrs. Cox was a member of Grant City Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 60 years. She also directed the church’s WKFM (Wesleyan Kids For Missions) program for over 30 years. Mrs. Cox was a 30-year employee of Mayhill Publications in Knightstown. She was also a member of Waynette Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynann (husband, James) Isham of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Leanna (husband, Lenville) Gross of Shirley; two granddaughters, Rachel (husband, Jason) Helms of Mozambique, Africa, and Abriel Isham of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one great-grandson, Tristan Lenville Tsakani Helm of Africa; a brother, Wesley Fields of Shirley; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren Cox; and a brother, Clovis Fields.
Funeral services were November 17 at Grant City Wesleyan Church with Rev. James Ricker officiating. Visitation was November 16 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant City Wesleyan Church Missions Fund.
Barbara Jane Willis
April 28, 1934 – Nov. 13, 2007
Barbara Jane (Pasko) Willis of Wilkinson died November 13.
She was born April 28, 1934, in Huntington, a daughter of Edwin and the late Helen (Scott) Pasko.
Mrs. Willis retired from Eastern Hancock Elementary School in 1996. She taught there for over 37 years. After her retirement, in 2006, Mrs. Willis returned to Eastern Hancock Elementary School as a substitute teacher. She married Kenneth Willis on June 6, 1959. She served as a pianist at Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 40 years. She served as president of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Willis was also a member of the Lilac Literary Club, Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492 and the Wilkinson Brotherhood and Sisterhood.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Edwin and Ethel Pasko of Shirley; two daughters, Deborah (husband, Brian) Froman and Pamela (husband, Todd) Carlton, both of Wilkinson; four grandchildren, Jon Froman, Rachel Froman, Elizabeth Carlton and Samuel Carlton, all of Wilkinson; a sister, Ruth (husband, Frank) Almeida of New Palestine; a brother, Rex (wife, Cathy) Pasko of Pendleton; in-laws, Annabelle Pasko Wilson of Greenfield, Don Willis, Howard and Kathleen Willis, all of Shirley, and Viola and Jack Irwin of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and friends.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Willis; her husband, Kenneth Willis; and a brother, Raymond Pasko.
Funeral services were November 19 at Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church in Shirley with Pastor Jeff Mair officiating. Visitation was November 18 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church or Hancock Regional Hospital’s hospice unit.
