Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Noah A. Haygood, Sr.

Sept. 27, 2007

Noah A. Haygood, Sr., 80, of Knightstown, died September 27 at Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born near Lapel, a son of the late Leslie Alvin and Dorothy Etta Madonna (Hilligoss) Haygood.

Mr. Haygood lived in the Ingalls and Lapel area most of his life. But, for the last 16 years, he lived on a farm near Knightstown. Mr. Haygood served with the 371st Air Engineer Squadron during World War II. He retired from Delco Remy, a division of General Motors, in 1983, after over 34 years of service. His first marriage to Billie Joan Brown in 1948 produced two children, Jolinda and Madonna. He married Thelma K. Clark on Feb. 14, 1954 and that marriage produced four children, Kathy, Nola, Noah Jr. and Sandy. Mr. Haygood was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life and he was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma K. (Clark) Haygood; his second wife, Billie Brown; two daughters, Jolinda S. Lich and Sandra K. Hendrick; his stepfather, Charles N. Thompson; two sisters, Norma J. Denger and Clara M. Sewell; and two brothers, Donald L. and Edward L. Haygood.

Funeral services were October 1 at Loose Funeral Home in Anderson with Rev. Leonard Dice and David Haygood officiating. Burial followed at Mendon Cemetery in Pendleton. Visitation was October 1 at the funeral home.

Doris Marie Rita Ries O’Connor

May 22, 1915 – Sept. 26, 2007

Doris Marie Rita Ries O’Connor, 92, of Indianapolis, died September 26.

She was born May 22, 1915, a daughter of the late George Peter and Johanna Rose Elizabeth Wolf Ries.

Mrs. O’Connor graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1933. She was a member of Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church. She married Norbert S. O’Connor on June 16, 1936.

Survivors include 13 children, Judith, Michael (wife, Kate), Kevin, Brian (wife, Norma), Keiran (wife, Elizabeth), Dan (wife, Pat), Terry, Tim (wife, Kathy), Malachy “Mac” (wife, Sharon), Kathleen Oskay (husband, Ron), Margaret (husband, Jeff) and Clare (husband, Phil); 38 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and countless other friends and family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Kaufmann; three brothers, George Jr., “Jiggs”, John and Raymond; a step-grandson and a great-grandson.

A burial mass took place October 1 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Visitation was September 30 at Shirley Brothers Mortuary, Irving Hill Chapel, in Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, 5333 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46219.

Lynda Sue Whisman

Nov. 4, 1949 – Sept. 26, 2007

Lynda Sue Whisman, 57, died September 26 at Liberty Convalescence Center in Oxford, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 4, 1949, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lavonne (Hardy) Hager.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Lewis of Muskegon, Mich., and Eric Lewis of Knightstown; a daughter, Tammy (husband, Jerry) Browning of West College Corner; a brother, Jerry (wife, Renee) Hager of Valparaiso; a sister, Sandy (wife, Greg) Masters of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce A. Conley and Brenda K. McMahon; two brothers, Robert D. Hager and Thomas A. Hager; and a nephew, Karl D. Conley.

Funeral services were held at Showalter Blackwell and Long Funeral Home in Oxford, Ohio. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joyce Marie Hendershott

Aug. 26, 1922 – Oct. 6, 2007

Joyce Marie Hendershott, 85, of Carthage, died October 6 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Brookville, a daughter of the late Ben and Lottie (Smith) Manning.

Mrs. Hendershott was a Navy Wave who served during World War II. She married Gene Hendershott. Mrs. Hendershott worked at Indiana Knitware and Jackwell Casket, where she was an assembly worker. She was also a housewife.

Survivors include two sons, Keane Hendershott of Herrington, Kan., and Mark (wife, Julie) Hendershott of Carthage; three sisters, Alroma Holmes of Anderson, Edith (husband, Tude) Smith of Pendleton and Gloria Poteet of Anderson; and a granddaughter, Cassandra Hendershott.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and two brothers.

Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Dr. Anthony J. Triarsi

Aug. 15, 1948 – Oct. 5, 2007

Dr. Anthony J. “Tony” Triarsi, 59, of Greenfield, died October 5 at his home.

He was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Ribera, Sicily, a son of Emanuele and the late Marianna (Guddemi) Triarsi.

Dr. Triarsi earned his doctorate of education at Ball State University in 1981. He served as superintendent of schools, industrial arts teacher and vocational director at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home from 1970-1991. He served as Kennard Elementary School principal from 1991-1996. Finally, he served as Knightstown Elementary School from 1996-2007.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. Triarsi also held several positions in the Knights of Columbus, including Charter Grant Knight in 1992 and Grand Knight in 1993. He served as chaplain for Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and was named District 10 American Legion Educator of the Year in 2006. Most recently, Dr. Triarsi served as treasurer of the Knightstown Home Optimist Club and was named Optimist of the Year in 1997. He also served as club president in 1983 and 1984. He received Indiana’s Distinguished Hoosier Award in 1991 and again in 2007. A member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, Dr. Triarsi was known as a die-hart Yankees fan who enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Linda (McWilliams) Triarsi; two daughters, Jenni Triarsi and Christi (husband, Chris) Leininger, all of Greenfield; his father, Emanuele (wife, Maria) Triarsi of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Trent (wife, Doris) McWilliams of Franklins; two sisters, Antoinette (husband, Tom) Catalina of New Town, Conn., and Lilian (husband, Eric) McLoughlin of Mahopac, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Gail (husband, Bob) Malloy of New Palestine; two grandchildren, Jack and Emma Leininger of Greenfield; three nieces, Amy (husband, Griffin) Chandler and son, Gage, of Bargersville, Maggie McWilliams of Franklin and Ashley Malloy of Montgomery, Ala.; and three nephews, Tomma Catalina of New Town, Conn., Kevin (wife, Jill) McWilliams of Woodstock, Ill., and Drew Malloy of New Palestine.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services were October 9 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with full military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was October 8 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Community Foundation, Dr. Anthony J. Triarsi Fund.

Carl I. Miller

June 12, 1917 – Oct. 4, 2007

Carl I. Miller, 90, of Carthage, died October 4 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield. He was born June 12, 1917, in Rush County, a son of the late Arnold and Maude (Wilson) Miller.

Mr. Miller lived in Carthage most of his life. He was a fence builder and farmer. He was an avid horse and dog trainer. Mr. Miller was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. A former calf roper, he won numerous roping events and dog trials over the years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Andis) Miller of Carthage; two sons, Dave (friend, Cathie Ream) Miller of Carthage and Gary (wife, Carole) Miller of Greenfield; a daughter, Carolyn “Sis” (husband, Dick) Bonne of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Miller; one daughter; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services were October 8 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Revs. David Bonne, Todd Reynolds and Pastor Marc Bundy officiating. Burial followed in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was October 7 at the funeral home.

Jane Craft

Jan. 22, 1938 – Oct. 15, 2007

Jane (Coon) Craft of New Castle died October 15.

She was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Velva Coon.

Mrs. Craft was a 1956 Cadiz High School graduate. She worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison and retired from there after 47 years of service. She was a member of the Shirley Order of the Eastern Star, chapter 492. She was also a member of Locust Grove Community Club.

Survivors include her husband, Charles V. Craft; a son, Brad (wife, Laura) Craft; a stepson, Michael (wife, Melanie) Craft; a twin sister, Joan Smith; a grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Coon.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
