Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Roy Clarence Adams

Oct. 1, 1929 – July 13, 2007

Roy Clarence Adams, 77, of Knightstown, died July 13 at Regency Place in Greenfield.

He was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Estel C. and Lora Ethel (Littrell) Adams.

Mr. Adams retired from Fisher Guide, a division of General Motors, in 1987 after 34 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 663 in Anderson. Mr. Adams was also an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Dunreith, where he served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Mae Adams of Knightstown; two sons, Gary Allen (wife, Mandy) Adams and Paul “Steve” (wife, Tina) Adams, both of Knightstown; a daughter, Janice (husband, Roger) Stevens of Spiceland; a brother, Raymond (wife, Alice) Adams of Eubanks, Ky.; two sisters, Mildred Edith Broughton of Morain, Ohio, and Edna Lou (husband, Joe) Graves of Mt. Olive, Ky.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Adams.

Funeral services were July 17 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Leonard R. Dice and Timothy Paul Dice officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 16 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Tract Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Patricia Jean Belcher

Aug. 15, 1952 – July 19, 2007

Patricia Jean Belcher, 54, died July 19 in St. Cloud, Fla.

She was born Aug. 15, 1952, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Edna Mae (Faine) Taylor.

Mrs. Belcher attended New Castle schools and she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (husband, Danny) Sheppard; a son, Brian Beaudry; 10 grandchildren, all of St. Cloud, Fla.; four brothers, Thomas (wife, Jenny) Taylor of Knightstown, Clark (wife, Pam) Taylor of Anaheim, Cal., Michael (wife, Jane) Taylor of Straughn and Kneale (wife, Debbie) Taylor of Richmond; five sisters, Louise (husband, Donald) Jenkins of Dublin, Nancy (husband, Walter) Thompson of New Castle, Dorthy (husband, Scott) Rains of Knightstown, Joett (husband, Rusty) McQuinn of Lake City, Fla., and Connie (husband, Carl) Pollitt of Connersville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Sheppard; and a grandson, Justin Sheppard.

Funeral services are July 28 in St. Cloud, Fla.

Robert L. Kingen

Jan. 25, 1926 – Aug. 12, 2007

Robert L. Kingen, 81, of Greenfield, died August 12 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

He was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Hancock County, a son of the late Justus and Zelpha Martha (Crawford) Kingen.

Mr. Kingen worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation, Detroit Steel Company in Morristown and Carl Graham Construction Company.

Survivors include a sister, Janet Sue Rainey of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Cox and Barbara Adams; and a brother, Justus Kingen, Jr.

Funeral services are Thursday, August 16, at 10 a.m. at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Graveside visitation is 9-10 a.m. at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.

Helen L. Dotson

Dec. 29, 1905 – Aug. 7, 2007

Helen L. Dotson, 101, of New Castle, died August 7 at Glen Oakes Health Campus in New Castle.

She was born Dec. 29, 1905, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Jesse E. and Alma Hammer.

Mrs. Dotson served as a missionary in Haiti for 17 years. She also worked at Guide Lamp in Anderson. She was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church at New Castle where she taught Sunday school. Mrs. Dotson authored her own autobiography.

Survivors include three stepchildren; a stepson, Omar Eugene Dotson of California; two stepdaughters, Mary Davenport of Florida and Betty Hopkins of Florida; two nieces, Joyce (husband, William) Siefert of Marion and Leilani (husband, Peter) Jones of Michigan; a nephew, Donald (wife, Rebecca) Hammer of Shirley; a niece-in-law, Joann Hammer; two sisters-in-law, Mary Webber of Tennessee and Opal (husband, Nichols) Goldsmith of Indiana; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two stepchildren, Dorothy and Marie Dotson; and two sisters-in-law, Rachel Baker and Ruth Trees.

Funeral services were August 10 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Thomas Sproles officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was August 10 at the funeral home.

Rolland W. Florea

August 24, 1927 – August 21, 2007

Rolland W. “The Honey Man” Florea, 79, of Greensboro, died August 21 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

He was born Aug. 24, 1927, in New Castle, a son of the late John and Bertha (Futrell) Florea.

Following his graduation from Swayzee High School, Mr. Florea attended Life Boat School and Seaman School in Brooklyn, N.Y. He worked 10 years for Sailors Union of the Pacific, traveling the world. He also worked for the Merchant Marines, Anaconda Wiring and a cable company in Marion. Mr. Florea also worked for Owens Illinois Glass Factory in Gas City, National Containers in California, Union Oil Company in Wilmington, Cal.; and he retired from General Telephone Company after over 26 years of service. He owned and operated Florea’s Honey Farm in Greensboro for 30 years and his honey was shipped all over the world. He was a lifetime member of Full Gospel Business Men’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Puckett) Florea; four daughters, Vickie (husband, Jack) Cleary of Huntington Beach, Cal., Debbie Salvucci of Atascadero, Cal., Kimberly (husband, Steve) Shurley of Spring Hill, Kan., and Rhonda (husband, Jerry) Frost of Lewisville; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Florea of Greenfield; a niece, Diana (husband, Brian) Puckett Taylor of California; grandchildren, Tami Clear of Huntington Beach, Cal., Tony, Nicky and Katherine Salvucci of Atascadero, Cal., Malinda (husband, Eric) Bailey of Fort Scott, Kan., Jenny (husband, Mike) Troutman of Chanute, Kan., Aaron (wife, Lacey) Grunden of Valley Ceater, Kan., Paul Grunden of Spring Hill, Kan., Steven Wayne (wife, Amy) Jackson of Knightstown, Misty (husband, Alan) Jarvis of Springport, and Emily and John Florea, both of Middletown; great-grandchildren, Ella Cleary, Kelcie, Kiran and Kaleb Bailey, Aldra and Shy Troutman, Hunter and Drew Jackson, Christian Strother and Hayden Jarvis; sisters, Betty Howard of Summitville, Phyllis (husband, Bob) Wright of Shirley; a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Florea of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rolland W. “Bud” Florea II; and a brother, Raymond Florea.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday, August 24, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Tracy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Garden near New Castle. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ball Memorial Hospital ICU unit or Peritoneal Dialysis, 2705 W. North St., Muncie, IN 47303.

George H. Sears

Oct. 25, 1949 – Aug. 17, 2007

George H. “Shagnasty” Sears, 57, of Knightstown, died August 17 at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late George Harold and Elizabeth (Payne) Sears, Sr.

Mr. Sears was a truck driver for Alvan Motor Freight Company and was known as a hard worker. He enjoyed woodworking and blacksmithing. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., he served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Sears was a member of First Baptist Church of Knightstown.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sears; a son, Joshua T. (wife, Christine) Sears of Knightstown; two grandchildren, John and Sara Sears of Knightstown; a sister, Linda Lou Kohl of Midland, Ohio; a brother, Stephen T. (wife, Linda) Sears of Fruit Cove, Fla.; and several other family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Sears.

Funeral services were August 19 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Visitation was August 19 at the funeral home.

Thomas Dill

July 10, 1946 – Aug. 17, 2007

Thomas Dill, 61, of Spiceland, died August 17 at his home.

He was born July 10, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late Charles and (Manning) Dill.

Mr. Dill lived in the Spiceland area most of his life. He worked as a draftsman and printer at Naval Avionics in Indianapolis before retirement. He was a member of Knightstown Golden Rule Lodge #16, Federal Order of Police, Murat Shrine and Indianapolis Valley Ancient Scottish Rite.

Survivors include several cousins; a sister, Martha Jean Dill of Knightstown; a friend, Steve Rozzell of Spiceland; and an uncle.

Funeral services were August 21 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Mervin Kilmer officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was August 21 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home in memory of Thomas Dill.
