Richard B. Faulkner
April 27, 1915 – June 9, 2007
Richard Benton Faulkner, 92, died June 9 at the Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
He was born April 27, 1915, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Earl and Lena Faulkner.
Mr. Faulkner served in the United States Army’s 150th Engineer Battalion as a technical sergeant in Africa and southern France during World War II. He was vice president and general credit manager at Jacksonville Paper Company from 1959-1982. He retired in 1982. Mr. Faulkner also served as a bailiff at the Duval County Courthouse from 1982-1987.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rosemary (Lord) Faulkner; three sons, James (wife, Dolores) Earle, Thomas (wife, Sylvia) Lord and Eric Benton (wife, Jan) Faulkner; five grandchildren, Jason (wife, Marcia), Stephanie, Jessica and Matthew (wife, Krista) Faulkner and Kristen (wife, Patrick) Hymas; and a great-grandson, Will Hymas.
Funeral services are Thursday at Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla.
Richard F. Mummert
Sept. 6, 1936 – June 18, 2007
Richard F. Mummert, 70, of Knightstown, died June 18 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis.
He was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Shelbyville, a son of the late Chancy and Audrey (Sumpter) Mummert.
Mr. Mummert was a lifelong Knightstown resident. He married Susan Pennington on June 11, 1987 and she survives. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and he retired from Navistar where he worked as a machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Mummert, of Knightstown; three sons, Chris Mummert of Scotts Bluff, Neb., Derrick (wife, Theresa) Mummert of Huntington, Tenn., and Daniel Lucas of Laurelville, Ohio; two daughters, Knyvett Reyes of Burleson, Tx., and Wendi Dutrow of Indianapolis; two brothers, Tommie (wife, Olla) Mummert of Carthage and Bob (wife, Linda) Mummert of Knightstown; three sisters, Charlotte Rumple of Knightstown, Edna Barr of Greensboro, N.C., and Janet (husband, Mike) Swick of Evanston, WY; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Jocelyn; and a sister, Ruth Clark.
Funeral services are Friday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at Glen Cove Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation is Thursday, June 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Howard M. Houchins
Nov. 4, 1914 – June 12, 2007
Howard M. Houchins, 92, of Spiceland, died June 12 at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Rush County, a son of the late Lee and Hazel (Gibson) Houchins.
Mr. Houchins lived in Henry County most of his life. He was a farmer and owned and operated his family’s dairy business from 1926-1946. On Nov. 4, 1934, he married Elizabeth Foster.
Survivors include a son, Larry Houchins of Lewisville; two daughters, Joan (husband, Bob) Clapp of Spiceland and Sharon (husband, Charles) Halcomb of Knightstown; three brothers, Bob Houchins of Rushville, Edward (wife, Nancy) Houchins of Spiceland and Richard (wife, Kay) Houchins of Dunreith; a sister, Stella Copeland of Lewisville; nine grandchildren, Carol Johnson, Gregg Clapp, Laurie Hamilton, Sandy Breese, Mary Ann Weightman, Gary, Randy and Scott Halcomb and Lesley Tice; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were June 16 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. David Brock officiating. Burial followed in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60604-1101.
Esther Marie Trout
July 4, 1919 – June 25, 2007
Esther Marie (Harman) Trout, 87, of Pendleton, formerly of Wilkinson, died Monday, June 25, at The Rawlins House in Pendleton.
She was born July 4, 1919, in Alexandria, a daughter of the late Homer and Bertha (Kubic) Harman.
Mrs. Trout was a 1937 Alexandria High School graduate, who participated in art and yearbook while in school. Her love of art continued into her adult life with oil painting, ceramics and stained glass work. She was employed at Delco-Remy for 38 years. A member of Markleville East Christian Church, Mrs. Trout was known as a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose (husband, Jerry) Darling of Wilkinson and Susan (husband, Ron) Adams of Freemon; a son, Larry (wife, Vera) Trout of Pendleton; six grandchildren, Michelle (husband, Dave) Sylvester, Sheree Hedrick, Jim (wife, Judy) Trout, Curt (wife, Jen) Trout, Deanna (husband, Dan) Shroyer and Charlene (husband, Carlos) Irizarry; one step-grandchild; several great-grandchildren; special friends, Steve (wife, Sheila) Leathers, Bonnie Leathers and Ann Hughes (deceased); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin D. Trout; a brother, Irvin Harman; two sisters, Marjorie Diamond and Betty Walker; and a special friend, Robert Leathers.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with John B. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Markleville East Christian Church or to the Alzheimer's Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Norman L. Bolinger
Nov. 2, 1932 – June 20, 2007
Norman L. Bolinger, 74, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Lewisville, died June 20.
He was born Nov. 2, 1932, a son of the late Leo and Helen (McIntosh) Bolinger.
Survivors include his companion, Marjorie Davis of Sarasota; two stepdaughters, Adrienne Bryant and Linda Crosby, both of Sarasota; a son, Rodger Davis of Sarasota; a brother, Jerry Bolinger of Bushnell, Fla.; five sisters, Virginia Overbay of Straughn, Eileen Whitfield of Lakeland, Fla., Linda Himes and Evelyn Wright, both of Ocala, Fla., and Judy Glass of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and uncles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dallas Bolinger; and a sister, Norita Huddleston.
Graveside services will be held in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle at the family’s convenience. Hawkins Funeral Home in Sarasota is handling arrangements.
William E. Alexander
Dec. 29, 1929 – June 19, 2007
William E. Alexander, 77, of Carthage, died June 19 at Marquette Manor in Indianapolis.
He was born Dec. 29, 1929 in Carthage, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Herkless) Alexander.
Mr. Alexander was a 1947 Carthage High School graduate. He received a bachelor’s degree in history in 1951 from Ball State University. Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 195301955 during the Korean War. On Jan. 28, 1955, he married June Kinder. From 1955-1961, he taught history and driver’s education at Mays High School. He also served as athletic director there, as well as coaching basketball, baseball and track. Mr. Alexander retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 after 31 years of service. He served as postmaster at Carthage for 29 years. In his retirement, he was a residential realtor for Century 21 in Greenfield for over 10 years.
A devoted member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage, Mr. Alexander served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was active in the Carthage Lions Club and served on the board of the Henry Henley Public Library in Carthage. He gave his time freely to myriad community initiatives and activities.
Survivors include two sons, Chris (wife, JoAnne) Alexander of Castro Valley, Cal., and Craig (wife, Lee Ann) Alexander of Bethesda, Md.; three daughters, Lori Alexander of Indianapolis, Shari (husband, Rich) Alexander of Zionsville and Anna (husband, Brock) Avery of Indianapolis; and six grandchildren, Brian, Emily and Kevin Alexander, Madeline and Max Richey, and Meg Avery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June; and two sisters, Patty Dudley and Mary Lou Hyatt.
Funeral services were June 23 at Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was June 22 at the church. Todd Funeral Home handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Fletcher United Methodist Church.
