Glenn E. Riggs
July 26, 1937 – May 19, 2007
Glenn E. Riggs, 69, of rural Shirley, died May 19 at his childhood birthplace in rural Cadiz.
He was born July 26, 1937, a son of the late Chester and Mary Kathleen (Pate) Riggs.
Mr. Riggs was a 1956 Cadiz High School graduate who worked as a livestock truck driver and also at Shirley Foods. Prior to his trucking career, he was a race car driver. An avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan, Mr. Riggs also enjoyed farming. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and enjoyed working on International Harvester Farmall tractors and Cub Cadet lawnmowers.
Survivors include two sisters, Phyllis (husband, Harry) Boze of Mechanicsburg and Jama (husband, Robert) Tennant of Greenfield; two daughters, Tamara Ann Dalton and Suzanne Wyatt; a son, Mickey Glenn Riggs; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three great-nephews; a great-niece; two aunts; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Riggs; a daughter, Glenna Jean Skinner; and a sister, Marlene Sowers.
Funeral services are Wednesday, May 23, at 8 p.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Marty Ballard officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 3 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Condo & Son Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Stanley Ray Boaz
March 26, 1931 – May 27, 2007
Stanley Ray Boaz, 76, of Markleville, died May 27 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born March 26, 1931, in Lexington, Ky., a son of the late Thomas and Addie (Carmichael) Boaz.
Mr. Boaz was a member of Shirley Masonic Lodge 531, Shirley Eastern Star 492. Mr. Boaz was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was a longtime barber, auctioneer and business owner.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ollie (Combs) Boaz of Markleville; a daughter, Diane Kay (Grover) Fugate of Hazard, Ky.; two sons, Gary Eugene (wife, Lisa) Boaz of Connersville and Ricky J. (wife, Doris) Boaz of Markleville; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Shawnah, Levi, Travis, Elly and Lacie Boaz and Mark Riley; one great-grandchild, Sarah Boaz; brothers and sisters, Bob Boaz of Indianapolis, Jim Boaz of New Mexico, Herb Boaz of Anderson, Helen Montaral of Texas and Gene Boaz of New Mexico; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Boaz; two sisters, Virginia Boaz, an infant, and Eva Louise Howard; and a grandson, Jesse Lee Boaz.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Bill LedBetter officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is Wednesday, May 30, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Benjamin J. Knotts
Dec. 16, 1923 – May 26, 2007
Benjamin Junior Knotts, 83, of Knightstown, died May 26 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Dec. 16, 1923, in New Castle, a son of the late Benjamin F. and Mamie (Melton) Knotts.
Mr. Knotts was a lifelong Henry County resident and a 1942 New Castle High School graduate, where he lettered in track and was a member of the varsity glee club and the boys glee club. Mr. Knotts served in the U.S. Army’s 1906th Aviation Engineering Battalion during World War II in the South Pacific, New Guinea and Philippines theaters. His battalion reunited each of the past 45 years, meeting throughout the United States. Last year, the group visited the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He married Ruth Beam on March 20, 1948. He was a life member of New Castle VFW Post 1282. He worked at Chrysler, then managed Knotts’ Standard Service Station in Spiceland for many years. Mr. Knotts enjoyed operating his backhoe and doing excavation. He worked with Wilbur Coffin in Spiceland, and on his own. A lifelong member of Spiceland Friends Meeting, he enjoyed sports and bowled for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son, Jay (wife, Cathy) Knotts of Knightstown; three daughters, Virginia Heiser of Indianapolis, Janice (special friend, Bill Williams) Radcliff and Joy (husband, Terry) Bussberg of Lewisville; 11 grandchildren, D.J. (wife, Amy) Knotts, Jeremy (fiance’, Shellie Kriz) Knotts, Debra (husband, Bill) Beabout, Heather (husband, Chad) Davis, Holly (husband, Adam) Bastin, Misty (husband, David) Scholl, Cheri (husband, David) Moore, Melissa Radcliff, Joe Radcliff, Bradley (wife, Jennifer) Bussberg and Tyler Bussberg; two stepgrandchildren, Amy (husband, Darrell) Wilson and Terry Bussberg; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Albert and William; and two sisters, Mildred Dudley and Ruby Niven.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with David Brock and Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Rush County. Visitation was May 29 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland Friends Building Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Thomas C. Cadwallader
June 24, 1945 – June 2, 2007
Thomas Clarkson Cadwallader Jr., 61, of Muncie, formerly of New Castle, died June 2 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born June 24, 1945, in Henry County, a son of the late Thomas C. and Evelyn M. (Pryor) Cadwallader.
Mr. Cadwallader served in Vietnam with the United States Army. He served as a security guard at Arlington High School in Indianapolis and was an active member of Friends Memorial Church in Muncie. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, mushroom hunting and many sports. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Joyce Johnson of Muncie; two sons, Daniel L. (wife, Georgia Kay) Cadwallader and David Cadwallader, both of Panama City, Fla.; three brothers, William (wife, Jeri) Cadwallader of Manilla, Harry N. (wife, Carol) Cadwallader of Indianapolis and Gary (wife, Wanda) Burton of Yelm, Wash.; seven sisters, Sylvia Johnson of Nashville, Brenda (husband, Euell) Barnes of Grant City, Linda Kay (husband, Pastor Terry) Moore of New Castle, Ida Elizabeth Pin-on of New Castle, Jackie (husband, Danny) Schnautz of Rushville, Teresa (husband, John) Davis of Richmond and Laura (husband, Roger) Swejkar of New Castle; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were June 5 at Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Pastor Bill Wagoner officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery, Legion Hill, in New Castle. Visitation was one prior to services on June 5. Military graveside rites were conducted by New Castle American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W. Post 1282, both in New Castle.
Angela M. Burton
June 29, 1973 – May 30, 2007
Angela M. Burton, 33, of Greenfield, died May 30 at her home.
She was born June 29, 1973, in Greenfield, a daughter of Lee Burton and the late Diana Lynn (Jenkins) Hewson.
Miss Burton loved animals and flowers and helping others.
Survivors include her father, Lee Burton, and stepmother, Beverly Burton, both of Dunreith; seven brothers, Mark Yuhas of Nashville, Tenn., Scott Burton of Ashland, Ky., Aaron (wife, Jana) Burton of Knightstown, Kevin (wife, Rachel) Lewis of Hartford City, Jason Burton of Greenfield, Levi Burton of Greenfield and Chris Burton of Dunreith; her stepfather, Kevin Hewson of Knightstown; and her grandparents, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Angel.
Funeral services were June 4 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Visitation was June 4 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock County Humane Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Robert D. Goudy
Oct. 27, 1922 - May 28, 2007
Robert D. Goudy, 83, of New Castle, formerly of Shirley, died May 28 at The Waters in New Castle.
He was born October 27, 1922. Mr. Goudy was a well-known bicyclist in Shirley and Wilkinson. He was also a noted conversationalist.
Survivors include a sister, Freda Green of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Lee, Jim and William “Wimp” Goudy; and two sisters, Sylvia Murphy Shrout and Doris Riggs.
Funeral services were May 31 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was noon until time of service on May 31.
Ralph E. Gorman
May 13, 1916 – June 11, 2007
Ralph E. Gorman, 91, of New Castle, died June 11 at Heritage House of New Castle.
He was born May 13, 1916, in Rush County, a son of the late Charles and Ines (Frampton) Gorman.
Mr. Gorman was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1980 after 42 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 371. He was a member of First Bible Freewill Church in New Castle, where he served as a deacon, adult Sunday school teacher and a choir member.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Davis) Gorman of New Castle; two daughters, Sandra Kendall of New Castle and Melinda (husband, Junior) Vaughn of Currituck, N.C.; a son, David (wife, Jane) Gorman of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Teresa (husband, Bruce) Massengale of Sulphur Springs, Lisa (husband, Kelly) Keene of Lebanon, Tenn., and James Duffy of Meridian, Ida.; great-grandchildren, Bryan (wife, Tiffany) Kendall, Kyle Atkins, KaSandra, Kaleb and Katey Keene, and Jaiden and Andrea Duffy; great-great-grandchildren, Lyra Kendall and Bryan Kendall, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Ruby Gorman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Arthur Gorman; a sister, Doris Grigson; and a grandson, Scotty Kendall.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Kevin Flannagin officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens near New Castle. Visitation is Wednesday, June 13, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Bible Freewill Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
