David W. Stevens

David W. Stevens, 52, of Knightstown, died May 4.
He was born July 19, 1954, in Rushville, a son of Bob and Lovon (Logan) Stevens of Knightstown.
Mr. Stevens was known as an outdoorsman who enjoyed shooting guns, riding motorcycles and working on trucks. His favorite pass-time was hanging out with the guys and shooting the bull.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Melissa (Harris) Stevens of Knightstown; two sons, Joel (wife, Katherine) Stevens of Indianapolis and Justin (wife, Heather) Stevens of Brownsburg; a grandson, Jackson Stevens of Indianapolis; two sisters, Joan Stevens of Florida and Pam (husband, Brian) Shores of Anderson; a brother, Leon Stevens of Florida; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca (Smith) Stevens; and an infant sister, Tamra Suzanne Stevens.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Phil Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.
Leon Alvin Low
Sept. 17, 1925 – May 4, 2007
Leon Alvin Low, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., died May 4 in Memphis.
He was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Sabetha, Kan., a son of the late Leslie and Edna (Bailey) Low.
Mr. Low moved to Indianapolis in 1931, when he was six years old. He attended Knightstown schools and later served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Memphis and later married Naomi Bray. Mr. Low served as a night security policeman and worked for a trucking company while living in Memphis.
Survivors include two sisters, Lois (Low) Lovell of Carol (Low) Johnson, both of Knightstown; five children, Edna Ann of Mississippi, Lois Naomi Bray of Memphis, Julia May of Mississippi, Larry Low of Memphis and John Low of Texas; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward “Ted” Low.
Funeral services were May 7. Burial followed in Memory Garden Grave Side in Memphis. Visitation was May 6.
Evelyn Anderson
Nov. 25, 1915 – May 2, 2007
Evelyn Anderson, 91, of Knightstown, died May 2 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 25, 1915, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Walter and Auttie (Lewis) Mattix.
Mrs. Anderson owned and operated Anderson's Restaurant in Dunreith and was a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (husband, Jack) Brummett of Hudson, Fla., and Sue (husband, William) Clift of Zionsville; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Brummett of Greenwood, James Brummett of Chesterfield, Va., Laura Shertzer of Indianapolis, Caroline Pasko of Carmel and Courtney Clift of Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren, Cameron and Caleb Brummett of Carthage and Jonathan, Justin, Amanda and Jared Brummett of Chesterfield, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; two brothers, Vern and Robert Mattix; and a sister, Louise Wilson.
Funeral services were May 4 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor James Brummett officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 12:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Robert B. Smith
April 23, 1938 – May 1, 2007
Robert B. Smith, 69, of Fayetteville, Ga., formerly of Wilkinson, died May 1 in Georgia.
He was born April 23, 1938, in Hancock County, a son of the late Everett and Ada Grace (Bolander) Smith.
He was a graduate of Wilkinson High School and Purdue University. An Army Reservist, he lived most of his life in California. Mr. Smith retired from Rohr-Goodrich Aero Space, where he served as an aeronautical engineer for 32 years before retirement. He also worked at Boeing Aircraft. Mr. Smith enjoyed NASCAR racing and sports.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Suzann Smith of Fayetteville, Ga.; two daughters, Lisa (husband, Mark) Cress of Rockport, Wash., and Melissa (husband, Leo) Chavez of Fayetteville, Ga.; two sons, Winston (wife, Melissa) Smith of Ft. Mohave, Ariz., and Philip (wife, Marcia) Loar of Shreveport, La.; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Smith and Marcus Smith, both of Wilkinson; two sisters, Betty Baer of Wilkinson and Joann Hammer of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Loar; a daughter, Eydie Lopez; and a grandson, Andy Smith.
Funeral services were May 8 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was May 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Vera J. Milner
Aug. 21, 1929 – April 24, 2007
Vera J. (Rhodes) Milner, 77, of Walton, died April 24 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Artis and Marie (VanValkingburg) Rhodes.
Mrs. Milner was a 1947 Knightstown High School graduate. She lived in Russiaville from 1959-1964 and Gas City from 1970-1995. Prior to moving to the Walton area in 1995, she lived in Fort Wayne. She married H. Dale Milner on July 2, 1948. Mrs. Milner was a homemaker who once managed the Marion RCA store and the Fort Wayne Top Value store. She also worked at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne until her retirement. She enjoyed reading and working on puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, H. Dale Milner; a son, Jeff (wife, Pam) Milner of Kansas City, KS; a daughter, Susan (husband, Sam) Rees of Walton; a brother, Donald F. (wife, Mattie) Rhodes of Charleston, WV; three grandchildren, Kelly DeBruler, Jeremy Milner and Todd Pace; six great-grandchildren; and an uncle, Alex Calvert.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were April 26. Burial followed on April 27 in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Her nephew, Chris Conley, officiating both services.
Gladys A. Tucker
May 24, 1923 – May 14, 2007
Gladys A. Tucker, 83, of New Castle, died May 14 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in New Castle.
She was born May 24, 1923, in Loranger, La., a daughter of the late John and Mary (Reid) Chavers.
Mrs. Tucker lived most of her life in Carthage. She served as a nurse at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home. On April 11, 1944, she married Thomas T. Tucker and he preceded her in death in 1992. A Democrat, Mrs. Tucker served as a poll worker for many years. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Rushville.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Tucker Jr.; a daughter, Melissa Brown of New Castle; a sister, Merle Manguna of New Orleans, La.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the family’s convenience. Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown is handling arrangements.
Steven W. Davis
July 21, 1958 – May 13, 2007
Steven W. Davis, 48, of Fortville, died May 13 in New Castle.
He was born July 21, 1958, in Rushville, a son of Harmon and the late Hattie Mae (Anderson) Davis.
Mr. Davis was a mechanic and a member of A.B.A.T.E.
Survivors include his father, Harmon Edgar (wife, Clara) Davis of New Castle; his companion, Judy Kennedy of Fortville; a daughter, Karen (husband, Jason) Whorton of New Castle; two stepdaughters, Charity Gong and Christan (husband, Marty) Reger, both of Greenfield; a brother, Kenneth E. (wife, Sherrie) Davis of Alexandria; a sister, Gloria Kohr of Indianapolis; three stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services are at 2p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the funeral home. Donations to help the family are being accepted at Todd Funeral Home.
