Sandra D. Emerson

Sandra D. Emerson, 67, of Knightstown, died April 28 at her home.
She was born March 6, 1940, a daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Stephenson) Pickett.
Mrs. Emerson was a 1959 Shelton (Conn.) High School graduate. She married Floyd F. Emerson on April 24, 1959, in Brookeville, Conn. She worked at Jim Dandy’s and Regency Place in Greenfield. In 2003, she retired from the Henry County Youth Center, where she worked in the food service department. She enjoyed arts and crafts, camping, playing a variety of games, including board games and computer games. Mrs. Emerson enjoyed spending time with her four children and eight grandchildren. A member of Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church, she was known as a person who never met a stranger.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Floyd F. Emerson of Knightstown; a daughter, Vikkilynn (husband, John) Ferguson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three sons, Christopher (wife, Johnnie) Emerson of Lafayette, David (wife, Nicole) Emerson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Doug (wife, Staci) Emerson of Knightstown; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Noah, Kaleb, Vikkilynn, Bobby, Sy, Seth and Wes; two cousins, Carole Stephenson-Polman of Southbury, Conn., and Revis Stephenson II of Marietta, Ohio; an uncle, Revis Stephenson Sr., of Casey Key, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Feaster of North Vernon and Agnes Emerson of Spiceland; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Irene Cunningham.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Visitation is 12:30-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the church. Willie B. Saylor
March 21, 1925 – April 26, 2007
Willie B. Saylor, 82, of Knightstown, died April 26 at Henry County Hospital in New Castle.
He was born March 21, 1925, in Conway, Ky., a son of the late Sol and Susie (Asher) Saylor.
Mr. Saylor lived in Knightstown for 17 years, having moved here from Indianapolis. He was a retired stone setter for Herff Jones, Inc. On April 25, 1942, he married Cordie Brock. He was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cordie Saylor of Knightstown; two sons, Donald Ray (wife, Barbara) Saylor of Montgomery, Ala., and Dewey (wife, Lola) Saylor of Martinsville; a daughter, Marie (husband, R.C.) Brashears of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Laura Saylor of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Saylor; four brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services were April 28 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Steve Brackney officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was April 27 at the funeral home.
Randall O. Pitts
Sept. 12, 1932 – April 26, 2007
Randall O. “Hank” Pitts, 74, of Anderson, died April 26 at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson.
He was born Sept. 12, 1932 in Knightstown, a son of the late Chester and Maggie (Gabbard) Pitts.
Mr. Pitts was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Delco-Remy in Anderson after 33 years of service and was a member of Spiceland Friends Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy (Bean) Pitts of Anderson; two sons, Greg (wife, Debbie) Pitts of Hinkley, Ill., and Tim (wife, Vickie) Pitts of Anderson; three daughters, Kathy (husband, Brian) Ellis of Spiceland, Jenny McDaniel of Anderson and Marie (husband, Brian) Sanders of Anderson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Beaver of Texas and Eleanor (husband, Don) Keck of Markleville; a brother, Omar (wife, Donna) Pitts of Shreveport, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were May 1 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with David Brock officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was April 30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland Friends Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Geneva Shock
May 28, 1918 – April 24, 2007
Geneva Shock, 88, of New Castle, died April 24 at The Waters of New Castle.
She was born May 28, 1918, in Clinton County, Ky., a daughter of the late John M. and Monta (Wallace) Albertson.
Mrs. Shock retired in 1980 from the Perfect Circle Division of Dana Corporation in Hagerstown after 36 years of service. She was a member of Southside Church of the Nazarene in New Castle.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Albertson of Indianapolis and Max (wife, Rita) Shock of Greensboro; a daughter, Lois (husband, Tyrone) Baker of Straughn; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Shock; a sister, Jeannette Reeves; and three brothers, Orville, Earl and Paul Albertson.
Funeral services were April 27 at Marcum Community Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Tom Current officiating. Burial followed in Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Visitation was April 26 at the funeral home.
Arthur W. Knox
Dec. 22, 1919 – May 6, 2007
Arthur W. Knox, 87, of Wilkinson, died May 6 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Dec. 22, 1919, in Midland, a son of the late Clarence and Edith (Walraven) Knox.
Mr. Knox retired in 1984 from Hooks in Indianapolis, where he served as a warehouse superintendent. He also managed the Kraft Cheese plant in Shirley. A lifelong member and elder at Wilkinson Church of Christ, Mr. Knox also served as a board member for Mahoney Valley Christian Service Camp. His other memberships included Shirley Masonic Lodge #531 and the Material Handling Society, of which he was a past president.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol (husband, Herbert) Woollard of Crossville, Ill., and Barbara Knox of Wilkinson; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Franklin of Mooresville and Beverly Long of Appleton, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Knox; and a brother, John Knox.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Wilkinson Church of Christ with Ron Baker and Herbert Woollard officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
James T. Gorman
Feb. 8, 1925 – May 5, 2007
James T. Gorman, 82, of Knightstown, died May 5 at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Knightstown, a son of the late Alonzo and Matilda (Carver) Gorman.
Mr. Gorman married Dorothy Keck on March 29, 1947. A lifelong Knightstown resident, he served as a set-up man for Detroit Allison until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Gorman was a member of New Castle U.A.W., the New Castle Eagles Lodge and he was former member of the American Legion Golf Course in New Castle.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Marie Gorman of Knightstown; a son, Danny (wife, Rowena) Gorman of New Castle; three daughters, Patricia (husband, Coy) Hubbard of Shelbyville, Judy (husband, Glen) McDonald of San Bernardino, Cal., and Vickie (husband, Steve) Moore of Spiceland; two brothers, Roland (wife, Carol) Gorman of Fountaintown and Kenneth (wife, Opal) Gorman of Temecula, Cal.; a sister, Mary (husband, Bob) Florey of Shirley; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky George; and three brothers.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Mervin Kilmer officiating. Burial will take place at the family’s convenience. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.
John H. Meltzer
June 12, 1924 – May 4, 2007
John H. “Jack” Meltzer, 82, of Indianapolis, died May 4 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born June 12, 1924, in Indianapolis, a son of the late George Frederick and Lois Ann (Rutledge) Meltzer.
Mr. Meltzer was a 1942 Shelbyville High School graduate. He married Eleanor E. James on April 28, 1950, in Shelbyville. He served as a steam fitter and estimator at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis for 40 years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Meltzer was a member of the V.F.W. and Faith Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. St. Louis during World War II.
Survivors include his children, Mollie L. Meltzer of Greenfield, John H. Meltzer Jr., of New Castle, Martin J. (wife, Sharon) Meltzer of Kennard, Jill S. Meltzer of Greenfield and Mike K. Meltzer of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, William, Andrew, Evan and Katie Meltzer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor K. Meltzer; a brother, Richard Meltzer; and two sisters, Gladys Dawson and Margaret Douglas.
Funeral services were May 8 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Burial followed at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation was May 7 at the church.
