Kenneth Ward Slagle

Kenneth Ward Slagle, 76, of Englewood, Fla., died February 12 at Venice Hospice Home in Venice, Fla.
He was born April 7, 1930 in Wayne County, Ky., a son of the late Floyd and Flonnie (Coffey) Slagle.
Mr. Slagle was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Nadine Slagle; a daughter, Keitha Bill of Englewood, Fla.; two grandchildren, Shelly Jenkins of North Port, Fla., and Chad Griffith of Orlando, Fla.; a great-grandson, Chase Griffith; seven sisters, Estine Hurt of Scottsville, Ky., Elnora Thompson of New Castle, Gatha Baker of Kipton, Ohio, Mary Thornton of Monticello, Ky., Norma Lyons of Franklin, Kaye Lyons of Spiceland, and Sue Carter of Monticello, Ky.; and a brother, Bobby Slagle of New Castle.
Funeral services were February 17 at Hoyt G. Hickey & Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Ky., with Brother Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial followed at Elk Spring Cemetery. Visitation was February 16 at the funeral home.
Diane McCune
Dec. 15, 1945 – Feb. 16, 2007
Diane (Hagger) McCune, 61, of Indianapolis, died February 16.
She was born Dec. 15, 1945, in New Castle, a daughter of Claude and Dorothy (Hilton) Hagger.
Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Smith, Sherry Smith and Ronnell Smith; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Bill Hagger; and a sister, Susie Hilton.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Angel and Monica Smith; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Smith; and two husbands, Ross Smith and Robert McCune.
Funeral services were February 21 at Family Funeral Care in Indianapolis. Burial followed in West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation was February 20 at the funeral home.
Tressie Shepherd Jr.
Feb. 13, 1932 – Feb. 22, 2007
Tressie Shepherd, Jr., 69, of Carthage, died February 22 while on a cruise in the Caribbean Sea.
He was born Feb. 13, 1938, in Roxanna, Ky., a son of the late Tressie and Emma (Collins) Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd attended Knightstown schools and later, in 1995, retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 32 years of service. He married Alice J. Wilson on May 18, 1957. He was a member of Knightstown Christian Church, the Knightstown Masonic Lodge, the Line of Commandry and the Shriners. Mr. Shepherd enjoyed spending winters in Florida where he lived at Twin Fountains Condominiums in Lake Wales. There, he enjoyed riding his golf cart and visiting with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and working on his farm in Carthage.
Survivors include his wife, Alice J. (Wilson) Shepherd of Carthage; two sons, Randall (wife, Sheryl) Shepherd of Greenfield and Ronald (wife, Rachael) Shepherd of Carthage; four grandchildren, Amelia and Grant Shepherd of Greenfield and Benjamin and Jacob Shepherd of Carthage; five sisters, Geraldine Manning of Florida, Irene Bandt of Louisville, Ky., Inez Manning of Taylor, Mich., Mattie (husband, Don) Rhodes of Charleston, W.V., and Carolyn (husband, Dave) Hennis of Ingalls; four brothers, Clarence (wife, Peggy) Shepherd of Lake Wales, Fla., Shade (wife, Zella) Shepherd of McMinnville, Tenn., Verlon (wife, Shirley) Shepherd of Greensboro and Roger (wife, Elizabeth) Shepherd of Kennard; several nieces and nephews; and lots of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Shepherd; and a granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Shepherd.
Funeral services are Friday, march 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is Thursday, March 1, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown Christian Church or the Henry County Cancer Society.
Beatrice Helen Butcher
Feb. 2, 1928 – Feb. 23, 2007
Beatrice Helen (Davis) Butcher, 79, of Shirley, died February 23 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Elwood, a daughter of the late Oliver and Edna (Hillard) Davis.
Mrs. Butcher was a nurse’s aid at Model A Nursing Home in Greenfield, and she was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Shirley Christian Church and War Mothers.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jim T. Butcher of Shirley; two sons, James (wife, Judith) Butcher of Fortville and Bill Butcher of Shirley; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Oliver of Bloomfield; a sister, Norma Lane of Conyers, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Butcher; a daughter, Brenda Moore; three brothers, Donald Davis, LeeRoy Davis and George Bailey; and a sister, Ann Shultz.
Funeral services were February 28 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickles officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was February 27 at the funeral home.
Lena Cole
Aug. 25, 1919 – Feb. 22, 2007
Lena Cole, 87, of Markleville, died February 22 at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson.
She was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Dublin, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Roberts) Hoover.
Mrs. Cole was a lifelong homemaker and a member of Markleville East Christian Church. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and enjoying the staff and atmosphere at Rawlins House.
Survivors include a son, Thomas (special friend, Elise Dulworth) Cole of Markleville; a daughter, Dixie Clem of Markleville; five grandchildren, Mark (wife, Julie) Cole, Joey (wife, Susan) Cole, Eric Clem, Jason (wife, Dana) Clem and Colby Clem; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Karen Connell and Jeanne Carey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Joe Cole; two brothers, Robert and Wayne Hoover; and two sisters, Elizabeth Harbison and Esther Hankins.
Funeral services were February 26 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Hervie Lawrence officiating. Burial followed at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Charity B. McQueary

Charity B. McQueary, 74, died February 28 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in New Castle.
She was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Knightstown, a daughter of the late John and Clara (Langley) Hankins.
Burial took place on March 2 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. There was no visitation. Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown is handling arrangements.
Chalmer Caudill
Oct. 30, 1920 – March 11, 2007
Chalmer Caudill, 86, of Dunreith, died March 11 at his home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Gaps Mill, W. Va., a son of the late Leslie and Rena (Johnson) Caudill.
Mr. Caudill married Ruth Raabe on September 29, 1958. He was a member of Spiceland United Methodist Church, Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and the National Association of Uniformed Services. Mr. Caudill retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant. He served in Europe during World War II (1943-1945). He also served in the Korean War from 1950-1953 and the Vietnam era.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Caudill, of Dunreith; a son, Chalmer Tyronne (wife, Dorothy) Caudill of California; three brothers, Everett (wife, Janett) Caudill of New Castle, Ray (wife, Sarah) Caudill of Montgomery, Ala., and Leonard (wife, Barbara) Caudill of North Carolina; three sisters, Juel Shepherd of Ogden, Geneva Lewman and Ruth Williams, both of Dunreith; a brother-in-law, Richard Schweikhardt of Knightstown; three grandchildren, Roxanne Rowlson, Ashleigh Whitley and Shane T. Caudill, all of California; and two great-grandchildren, Justis Caudill and Rowen Caudill.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Caudill; and a sister.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Chris Renick officiating. Burial follows in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is noon until time of services on Wednesday, March 14. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland United Methodist Church.
Donald W. Clawson
Nov. 21, 1914 – March 9, 2007
Donald W. Clawson, 92, of Lewisville, died March 9 at Regency Place in Greenfield.
He was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Raleigh, a son of the late William and Anna Marie (Wesling) Clawson.
Mr. Clawson lived most of his life in Raleigh and graduated from Raleigh High School in 1932. A former Raleigh volunteer fireman, he worked for several years at Philco Ford in Connersville. He served in the U.S. Army from March 15 1943 to Dec. 15, 1945, achieving the rank of T-5. In 1984, he married Lucille Moore. Mr. Clawson was a member of the Raleigh Community Club.
Survivors include a former wife, Elsie (Boots) Clawson of Lewisville; a daughter, Debbie (husband, Doug) Briar of Lewisville; two stepsons, Denny Woods and Bill Woods, both of Greenfield; a stepdaughter, Diane Eller of Brownsburg; two granddaughters, Amy (husband, Tom) Bement of Fishers and Nicki (husband, Greg) Boyer of Raleigh; six great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Lucille Moore; and two brothers, Barnard and Delbert Clawson.
Funeral services were March 12 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Ton Augsburger officiating. Private burial followed in Madison County Cemetery. Visitation was March 12 at the funeral home.
