Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Jeanette M. Timler

Oct. 10, 1921 – Jan. 28, 2007

Jeanette M. (Palmieri) Timler died January 28 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Hamilton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Giacinto “Jimmy” and Ellen (Delligatto) Palmieri.

Mrs. Timler was a educated in Hamilton, Ohio, schools and she married Harold “Pete” Timler in 1942. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, the Women’s American Italian Society and V.F.W. Post 1069. She was a past president of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Timler was employed at Champion Papers in Hamilton, Ohio, and Pasadena, Texas. She later retired from Avon. Following retirement, she worked at K-Mart in Hamilton and McDonald’s Restaurant. She will be remembered for her laughter, her loyalty and generosity.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn L. Mills of Knightstown; three grandchildren, Kelly Jo (husband, Frank) Anderson of Knightstown, Michael (wife, Paula) Mills of Waynesville, Ohio, and Marc (wife, Lisa) Mills of Fairfield, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ellen (husband, Carl) Solazzo of Hamilton, Ohio; a brother, Robert (wife, Phyllis) Palmieri, also of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Mickey Palmieri; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Robert and Brenda Eoff of Knightstown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vito and Mike Palmieri; and a great-grandchild, Marc Douglas Mills, Jr.

Funeral services are at noon on Thursday, February 1, at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ohio. A mass and Christian burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church and St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, February 1, from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Donald Ray Turner

Apr. 13, 1947 – Jan. 24, 2007

Donald Ray Turner, 59, of Anderson, died January 24.

He was born April 13, 1947, in Jackson, Ky., a son of Offit Turner and Martha Hite.

Mr. Turned retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo in 2002. He enjoyed old cars and country music. He loved sports of all kinds, especially Colts football. An avid collector of NASCAR memorabilia, Mr. Turner also enjoyed metal brokering and making people laugh.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha (Morrow) Turner of Anderson; mother, Martha (husband, Jim) Hite of Knightstown; father, Offit Turner of Jackson, Ky.; a sister, Sandy (husband, Don) Shelton of Knightstown; a brother, Rick Lingerfelt of Shelbyville; three children, Kim and Kerri Turner, both of New Castle, and Marty McClure of Iowa; five grandchildren; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Linda Morrow of Markleville; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were January 27 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was January 26 at the funeral home.

Warren M. Neeley

March 27, 1939 – Feb. 1, 2007

Warren M. “Mike” Neeley, 67, of Monticello, died February 1 at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello.

He was born March 27, 1939, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Fern M. Neeley.

Mr. Neeley lived in Charlottesville before moving to Monticello in 1972. He was a member of the Monticello V.F.W. post, having served during in U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. A semi driver for Schilli Motor Lines, he also drove a dump truck for Charles R. Geier. Mr. Neeley owned and operated Point Furniture Show Place in Monticello for a few years. A former race car driver, he was an avid Nascar enthusiast and a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

Survivors include his fiance, Peggy Garvin of Monticello; two half-brothers, Melvin J. (wife, Oleta) Basicker of Tennessee and Dennis R. (wife, MaryAnn) Basicker of Shirley; and close friends, Steve W. (wife, Pat) Morehouse of Battle Ground and Dennis G. Spear of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Owen D. Basicker; and his mother, Fern M. Neeley-Basicker.

Funeral services are Friday, February 9, at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with Rev. Jeff Mair officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello. Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 8, at the funeral home, with full military rites at 7 p.m.

Ross H. Robertson

Feb. 13, 1953 – Feb. 1, 2007

Ross H. “Papaw Bugs” Robertson, 53, of Cicero and formerly of Wilkinson and Knightstown, died February 1 at his home.

He was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Warren, Ohio, a son of George Edwin and Marilyn Marie (Johnson) Robertson.

Mr. Robertson graduated from both Knightstown High School and Purdue University. He participated in wrestling in Knightstown and Eastern Hancock schools, and was Wrestler of the Year at Knightstown. An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Mr. Robertson was employed as a senior systems engineer at Firestone for 25 years.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew and Dustin Robertson, both of Indianapolis; two daughters, Kelly (husband, Bryan) Goodall of Ellettsville and Jennifer Robertson of Greenwood; two granddaughters, Payton and Kadence Goodall; a grandson, Isaiah Knight; parents, George and Marilyn Robertson of Cedar Creek, Mo.; a brother, Edwin Robertson of New Castle; a sister, Lynda Robertson of Louisville, Ky.; and two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Visitation is also Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Estes “Eck” Conley

March 8, 1925 – Feb. 1, 2007

Estes “Eck” Conley, 81, of Shirley, died February 1 at his home.

He was born March 8, 1925, in Emerson, Ky., a son of the late Delbert and Leola (Logan) Conley.

Mr. Conley owned Conley’s Welding for 19 years and was employed at Container Corporation in Carthage for 20 years. He was also employed by Gas America in Shirley for six years. Mr. Conley was an avid Nascar fan and he also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Christine (Binion) Conley of Shirley; three sons, Harold Conley of Ohio, Larry Conley of Shirley and Jerry Conley of Arizona; two daughters, Judy K. Link of Arizona and Carla Green of Arizona; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert Conley of Greensburg and Junior Conley of New Castle; five sisters, Bonnie Gross and Mary Lou Huckaby, both of New Castle, Betty Melon and Susie Parmley, both of Kennard and Barbara Sherrer of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha J. Conley; a brother, Omar Conley; and a sister, Evelyn Morelock.

Funeral services were February 7 at 10 a.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle. Visitation was February 6 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andy Gilliland Charity Golf Outing with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Michael D. Becraft

July 4, 1958 – Jan. 31, 2007

Michael D. Becraft, 48, of Knightstown, died January 31 at Henry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 4, 1958, in Rushville, a son of Wayne H. and the late Dorothy (Safewright) Becraft.

Mr. Becraft was raised in Rushville and was a 1976 Rushville Consolidated High School graduate. He married Janet M. Williamson on Sept. 11, 1987 and she survives. A welder and pipe fitter by trade, he was employed at Eli Lilly.

A member of First Baptist Church in Knightstown, Mr. Becraft was also a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Indiana Gun Club and the U.S. Parachute Association. He was known as an adventure extremist and was avid skydiver and skydiving technician. Some of his other activities included backpacking, hiking, scuba diving, water skiing, spelunking, hunting and canoeing. Mr. Becraft was also an avid angler who fished on the Red Man circuit.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; a daughter, Caitlin of Knightstown; his father, Wayne of Rushville; a brother, Richard (wife, Phyllis) of Mitchell; a sister, Beth (husband, Doug) Jarman of Rushville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Stanley and Jan Williamson of Williamsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were February 6 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Mark Tabb officiating. Burial followed at Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery. Visitation was February 1 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Madison County, Indiana, Chapter with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Rev. Gene Lewis

Feb. 19, 1929 – Jan. 31, 2007

Reverend Gene Lewis, 77, of Knightstown, died January 31 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Goldsboro, N.C., a son of the late James P. and Ruth (Kleinert) Lewis.

Mr. Lewis dedicated his life to serving the Lord by serving others. He was known as a caring and giving man whose efforts touched the lives of others. He gave his first sermon at age three. At age 14, he began formal preaching at cottage meetings in North Carolina. By age 19, he was pastoring his first church. Eventually, he came north to pastor the Friends Meeting in Jamestown, Ohio. Mr. Lewis later served as youth pastor at First Friends in Indianapolis. Then he was pastor at Fairfield, Spiceland, Carthage, Knightstown and, finally, Raysville Friends Meeting before his retirement after 56 years in the ministry.

Mr. Lewis was also a teacher who taught for 33 years in the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township in Indianapolis. Specifically, he taught at Moorehead, Woodview and Stonybrook junior high schools. Mr. Lewis was known by students as a respected teacher and many of those same students grew up and called him a friend. He was known for making time to help people and he was also known as a devoted and dedicated husband and father.

An avid traveler, Mr. Lewis enjoyed spending time with his family and he was accompanied by them on many of his travels. He enjoyed fishing, reading, writing and learning. He attended Emanuel Junior College in Franklin Springs, Ga. He received a bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Christian in Wilson, N.C. Mr. Lewis attended seminary school at Duke University and later earned a master’s degree in history from Butler University.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn (Long) Lewis; two sons, James B. (wife, Susie) Lewis and their children, Ashley and Andrew Gene, all of Economy; Jeffery A. (wife, Lisa) Lewis and their three children, James A., Jessica and Jeremy Gotwals, all of Bloomington; two goddaughters, Stacey (husband, John) Driscol and their son, Nathan, of Alexandria, Va., and Rachel (husband, Luis) Bertrand and their sons, Jaime, Gerardo and Steve, all of Goldsboro, N.C.; a sister, Lou Ann Locke of Arkadelphia, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were February 3 at Knightstown Friends Meeting with Rev. Kenneth M. Locke officiating. Burial followed in Abbottsville Cemetery in Greenville, Ohio. Visitation was February 2 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. The family has requested no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gene Lewis Memorial Fund, c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service.
