Elizabeth J. Wheeler

Jan. 19, 1921 – Jan. 8, 2007

Elizabeth J. Wheeler, 85, of Shirley, died January 8 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Carmel.

She was born Jan. 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Herman and Alma (Jones) Riggs.

Mrs. Wheeler was a 1939 Knightstown High School graduate. A lifelong homemaker, she was a member of Shirley Christian Church. She married Adrian Wheeler on April 18, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Survivors include a son, Thomas (wife, Terry) Wheeler of Fortville; a daughter, Susan (Wheeler) Gard of Brownsburg; four grandchildren, Jeff (wife, Tanya) Wheeler, Kevin Wheeler, Jennifer Gard and Sara (husband, Justin) McNabb; two great-grandchildren, Val and Cole Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2003; three sisters, Orman Riggs, Lucy VanVoorhis and Oleta Griffith; and six brothers, Gilbert, Elbert, Milford, Joseph, Woodrow and Ralph Riggs.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Darrell Deck officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 11a.m. until time of services on Saturday.

Letha Myrtle Coomer

Nov. 2, 1926 – Jan. 6, 2006

Letha Myrtle Coomer, 80, of Warrington, died January 6 at her home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Iowa, a daughter of the late Milton and Stella (Daffron) Eller.

Mrs. Coomer was a lifelong homemaker who also worked at Indiana Knitwear and Geno’s Small Stop. She was an avid bingo and euchre player.

Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Coomer of Warrington; five sons, Robert E. Coomer of Waverly, Jimmie Coomer of Greenfield, Wayne Coomer of Markleville, Hughie (wife, Brandy) Coomer of Shirley and Doug (wife, Ashley) Coomer of Shirley; five daughters, Patricia Porter of Shirley, Barbara Simmons of Markleville, Kathy Whisman of Warrington, Judy Morrison of Indianapolis, and Donna (husband, Stan) Findlay of Anderson; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Madge Green of Somerset, Ky., Grace Burton of Monticello, Ky., and Phyllis Lane of Lancaster, Ky.; a brother, Phillip Eller of Burnside, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall and Carl Eller; and a sister, Bea Winchester.

Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until time of service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Neta C. Jarvis

April 20, 1916 – Jan. 6, 2007

Neta C. Jarvis, 90, of Dunreith, died January 6 at The Waters of New Castle.

She was born April 20, 1916, in Shipley, Ky., a daughter of the late Arthur Clarence and Lucy (Willen) Cross.

An area resident since 1950, Mrs. Jarvis was a member of Faith Chapel Church in Knightstown. She was a homemaker who had also worked at The Flamingo Restaurant in Dunreith as well as the Dunreith Packing Company. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include seven children, Oleta Jarvis of Knightstown, Monrie Sue (husband, Bill) Thornburg of Spiceland, Mary (husband, Steve) Lubich of Richmond, Clarice (husband, Ralph) Thompson of Knightstown, Oren (wife, Janice) Jarvis and Lowell (wife, Etsuko) Jarvis, both of Dunreith, and Rebecca (husband, Jeff) Snedegar of Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Jarvis; two grandchildren, Penny Thornburg and Robert Turner; her stepmother, Alice Cross; and two relatives, Odell Cross and Kurt Willen.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at Faith Chapel Church in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was January 9 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Chapel Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Franklin D. Renfro

Oct. 10, 1933 – Jan. 6, 2007

Franklin D. Renfro, 73, of Shirley, died January 6 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Henry County, a son of the late Silas and Alice (Nolan) Renfro.

Mr. Renfro was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 from Delco-Remy in Anderson and also owned and operated Renfro Construction. Mr. Renfro was a member of Warrington Church of the Nazarene and Knightstown American Legion Post 152.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Maxine Renfro of Shirley; two sons, Franklin (friend, Kim) Renfro, Jr., of Shirley and Tony (wife, Debi) Renfro of Wilkinson; two daughters, Cindi (husband, Marvin) Adkins of Greensboro and Jennifer (husband, Jim) Carlton of Wilkinson; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (husband, Ted) Applegate of Spiceland; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters; a brother; a daughter, Teresa Snider; and a granddaughter, Heather Snider.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Todd Reynolds and Brent Hopkins officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152, will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was January 9 at the funeral home.

Mary Edith Trees

Sept. 13, 1908 – Jan. 6, 2007

Mary Edith Trees, 98, of Warrington, died January 6 at Regency Place Health Care Center in Greenfield.

She was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Wilson C. and Rose (Bradley) Eakin.

Mrs. Trees was a 1926 Wilkinson High School graduate. She retired in 1989 after 28 years of service at Shirley Pharmacy, where she was a cook. She had also worked at Delco Remy in Anderson. Mrs. Trees was a lifelong member of Warrington Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include a daughter, Cherie Ann Trees of Indianapolis; a niece, Karen L. (husband, Delbert) Conley of Greensburg; and a nephew, Dennis G. (wife, Lori) Hoppes of Charlottesville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Trees, in 2005; a sister, Ruth Hoppes; and a brother, Horace Eakin.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 11, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Paul Litten officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at the funeral home.

Misty D. Hines

Aug. 27, 1968 – Jan. 3, 2007

Misty D. Hines, 38, of Knightstown, died January 3.

She was born Aug. 27, 1968, in Greenfield, a daughter of Bob and Claudette (Hamilton) Rhodes.

Mrs. Hines was involved in the Little League and PAL Club in Anderson for many years. She enjoyed attending her children’s cheerleading competitions, wrestling meets, band concerts and football games. She also enjoyed carving pumpkins at Halloween, which was her favorite time of year. She worked at Steak-n-Shake in Anderson for eight years.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Hines of Knightstown; two children, C.J. and Heavyn Hines of Knightstown; her parents, Bob and Claudette “Bonnie” Rhodes of Knightstown; two sisters, Amber Rhodes of Knightstown and Bobbi Rhodes of Ft. Wayne; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were January 6 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was January 5 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Marjorie Ann Wampler

Apr. 22, 1931 – Jan. 15, 2007

Marjorie Ann (Arthur) Wampler, 75, of Greenfield, died January 15 at her home.

She was born April 22, 1931, in Bloomington, a daughter of the late Ollie D. and Laura B. (Ray) Arthur.

Mrs. Wampler was a 1949 Bloomington High School graduate. She taught Sunday school at First Assembly of God in New Castle for over 40 years. She enjoyed painting, writing poetry and being a Girl Scout troop leader. Mrs. Wampler was a member of Historic Knightstown, Inc., Poet Club and the Democratic Party.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Brad Wampler of Knightstown, Kerry Wampler of Greenfield and Jeffery Wampler of Bloomington; four daughters, Julia Martin of South Lawrence, Mass., Rhonda Hummer of Bloomington, Lee Ann Dolezal of Avilla and Katherine Wampler of Greenfield; two brothers, Max Arthur and Dale Arthur, both of Bloomington; three sisters, Phyllis Black of Fort Wayne, Carolyn Thickstun of Bloomington and Susie Siscoe of Greensburg; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Lee Wampler; five brothers, Hollis Roy, Leland, Bob, Russell and Don Arthur, and a grandson, Ty Bridges.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19 at First Assembly of God in New Castle with Rev. Stephen Galloway officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 18, at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God Shepherds Door.
