Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Lori A. Tutrow

April 13, 1977 – April 24, 2006

Lori A. Tutrow, 29, of Shirley, died Monday, April 24, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born April 13, 1977, in Greenfield, a daughter of the late Edwin Tutrow and Alice (Wilt) Coomer of Shirley.

Miss Tutrow was a 1995 Knightstown High School graduate.

Survivors include her mother, Alice Coomer of Shirley; a sister, Stacey Coomer of Shirley; a brother, Dustin Coomer of Warrington; her step-father, Donald Coomer of Shirley; maternal grandmother, Virginia Wilt of Apalachicola, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Goldie Anderson of Greenfield; two step-paternal grandmothers, Dorothy Tutrow of Orange City, Fla., and Linda Tutrow of Greenfield; a niece; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her godparents, Gary and Sheryl Vaughn of Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandfather, Ralph Wilt, Sr.; and her paternal grandfather, Thelbert Tutrow.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Thelma Lamaster officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lori Tutrow Fund in care of Condo & Son Funeral Home.

Francie Jasper

Jan. 6, 1950 – Jan. 31, 2006

Francie Jasper, 56, of New Castle, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 6, 1950, a daughter of Eldon T. and the late Patricia (Jordan) Ray.

She attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church and was employed in the housekeeping department at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

Survivors include her father; six siblings, Penny Jones of Carthage, Nancy (husband, Bill) Vickery of New Castle, Sherry (husband, Roger) Jones of Shirley, Letha Ray (companion, John Abrell) of Carthage, Bud (wife, Mary) Ray of New Castle and Vanessa (husband, Ronnie) Peavie of Kokomo; a foster sister, Dorothy (husband, Harold) Rothrock of New Castle; a half-brother, Chuck Ray of Missouri; special friends Jim Lucas of Waynesville, Ohio, Susan Goudy and Debbie Riggs; a special uncle, Jimmy Jordon of Carthage; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Jasper, who was killed during the Vietnam War; special aunt and uncle, Chester and Hannah Estell; and a special friend, Martha Bowers.

Funeral services were February 3 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Charles Dugger officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home.

William H. Dixon

Aug. 4, 1922 – May 2, 2006

William Harold Dixon, 83, of Orleans, died Tuesday, May 2, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.

He was born Aug. 4, 1922, in West Baden, Ind., a son of the late William Sherrod and Pearl (Tolbert) Dixon.

Mr. Dixon married Mary Helen Bartl on Oct. 8, 1950, and she survives. He graduated from West Baden High School in 1941. He spent 35 years in the banking business. Mr. Dixon worked at West Baden National Bank and served as assistant cashier at French Lick State Bank. Later, he served as executive vice president, cashier and trust officer at the State Bank of Carthage. He then returned to Orange County where served as vice president and trust officer at the Bank of Orleans. A member of Orleans United Methodist Church, Orleans American Legion Post 69, Orleans Masonic Lodge #153, Scottish Rite, and Valley of Indianapolis, Mr. Dixon also belonged to the Orange County Past Masters Association. Mr. Dixon was a World War II veteran, having served as an administrative specialist with the U.S. Air Force’s Ninth Air Force Service Command. His service took place in the European theater of operations, including England, France, Luxembourg and Germany. Mr. Dixon had been a member of the Carthage Lions Club, various committees with the Indiana Bankers Association, State Bank of Carthage board of directors and the board of directors of the Bank of Orleans. Mr. Dixon was a past master of the Rush Masonic Lodge #580 and he was a past commander of Phillips-Grigsby American Legion Post 149 in West Baden.

Survivors include his wife; and his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Bartl and Colleen Dixon of Muncie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Howard Franklin Dixon and James Edward Dixon.

Funeral services were Friday, May 5, at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Rev. Patrick Sinnott officiating. Burial followed in Ames Chapel Cemetery in French Lick. Military graveside rites were conducted by Orleans American Legion Post 69. Visitation was Thursday, May 4, at the funeral home. A Masonic service was conducted at that time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Orleans United Methodist Church, PO Box 144, Orleans, IN 47452, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Della D. Fields

Jan. 31, 1921 – May 3, 2006

Della D. Fields, 85, of Falmouth, died Wednesday, May 3, at her home.

She was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Rush County, a daughter of the late Orville and Maudia (McPherson) Mohler.

Mrs. Fields lived in the Falmouth area for the last three years. Prior to moving, she lived near the Carthage Pike and in Columbus, Ind. She graduated from New Salem High School in 1938. She worked for Arvin Industries in Columbus, Ind., for 12 years. Mrs. Fields then moved her employment to Payton & Dunsmore Attorneys in Knightstown, where she worked in the 1970s and 1980s. She was a member of Raleigh Christian Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid Society. Mrs. Fields was also a member of the Sweet Adelines in Columbus. She loved to play piano and learned to play “by ear.”

Survivors include four sisters, Stella Meyers of Falmouth, Amelia (husband, John) Burgdoerfer of Gings, Bertha (husband, Gilbert) Foreman of Falmouth, and Marlene (husband, Lowell) French of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 8, at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Rory Christensen and Tony Augsburger officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Rush County. Visitation was Sunday, May 7, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Raleigh Christian Church or Plum Creek Christian Church.

Amelia Burgdoerfer

May 27, 1923 - January 13, 2012

Amelia Burgdoerfer, 88, a lifelong resident of Rush County, passed away at her home in Gings, on Friday, January 13, 2012.

Amelia was born on May 27, 1923 in Rush County to Orville E. & Maudia McPherson Mohler.

She was a 1941 graduate of New Salem High School. She married John Burgdoerfer on December 24, 1957 and he survives.

She worked for many years as a cook for the Gings and Jackson Schools. She also worked at McMillan's Packing Plant in Gings.

Amelia was the administrator for French Insurance Agency in Carthage and Rushville for 28 years. She was a former member of the Plum Creek Christian Church and present member at Ben Davis Creek Christian Church, serving on the Ladies Aide for both.

In addition to her husband John, of Gings, Amelia is survived by her sisters, Stella Meyer and Bertha & husband Gilbert Foreman, both of Falmouth and Marlene & husband Lowell French of Carthage, several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ronnie R. Cameron, a daughter, Maudia Kay Cameron, a stepson, Darrell Edward Burgdoerfer, brothers, Harold Mohler and John Dawson and sisters, Marjorie Morris, Oletha Clark, Nila Tillison and Della Fields.

Services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, January 17 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, where friends are welcome to visit from 4 until 8 PM on Monday evening. Howard Bullard will preside and burial will be in the Orange Cemetery in Fayette County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ben Davis Creek Christian Church.

Thomas F. Marshall

July 21, 1941 – May 3, 2006

Thomas F. Marshall, 64, of Rushville, died Wednesday, May 3, at his home.

He was born July 21, 1941, in Rushville, a son of the late William F. and Alice (Soukup) Marshall.

Mr. Marshall graduated from Rushville High School in 1959. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in education in 1968. Mr. Marshall attended the Indiana University School of Law where he received a doctorate of jurisprudence in 1971. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar Association in 1971 and the Florida Bar Association in 1974. Mr. Marshall practiced law in Bluffton and served as Wells County Prosecutor from 1972-1974. He then moved to Florida and practiced law there from 1974-1976. He was appointed as a Rush County judge by then Governor Otis Bowen and was later elected to the position, which he held until 1996. Mr. Marshall was a Rush County public defender from 1998-2003. He was co-founder of the Rush County Youth Football program and he helped develop the Rush County substance abuse program. He also helped form the Rush County DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program and was a member of both the Rotary Club and Elks Lodge 1307 for over 35 years. Mr. Marshall’s other memberships included Antler Point Country Club, Flatrock Yacht and Bath Club and the Rush County Bar Association. He was a strong supporter of the Rush County High School Athletic Booster Club. On June 8, 1963, he married the former Marylu Becht and she survives.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeff (wife, Jennie) Marshall of Wilmette, Ill., and Jim (wife, Lori) Marshall of Rushville; a brother, Bill (wife, Elsieann) Marshall of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Max and Anna Marshall and Stefanie and Lindsay Montgomery.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Marie Ketchem.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Hank Anderson officiating. Cremation followed. Visitation was Saturday, May 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County High School Athletic Booster Club or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Cody Michael Bonewits

Dec. 21, 2004 – April 28, 2006

Cody Michael Bonewits, 16 months, died Friday, April 28.

He was born Dec. 21, 2004, in New Castle, the son of Robert Adam Bonewits and Veronica Johnson.

Cody enjoyed playing ball and being with people.

Survivors include his parents; maternal grandfather, Ron Johnson of South Bend; maternal grandmother, Vicki (husband, Rick) Houser of New Castle; paternal grandparents, Robert A. and Jane Bonewits of Knightstown; paternal great grandparents, Oran and Virginia Pack of Indianapolis; maternal great grandmother, Flora Johnson of Greenfield; maternal great grandfather, Jack Janney of Muncie; maternal great grandmother, Betty Janney of Gaston; several aunts and uncles, including Melissa Bonewits, Jeremy Bonewits, Reggise (wife, Jenny) Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Shelby Johnson, Michael (wife, Julia) Houser, Kevin Houser and David Houser; several great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Funeral service are at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery west of New Castle. Visitation was from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cody Bonewits Memorial Fund, care of Citizens State Bank, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Helen L. Dickey

July 8, 1918 – April 28, 2006

Helen L. Dickey, 87, of Knightstown, died Friday, April 28, at her home.

She was born July 8, 1918, in Dunreith, a daughter of the late Ralph and Leona Lord. She had lived in Knightstown since 1929.

Mrs. Dickey was a 1936 graduate of Knightstown High School. She also graduated from Indiana Business College and worked at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home, the Chevrolet division of General Motors and Sieco Windows. Mrs. Dickey was a member of Knightstown Christian Church, where she married Dr. John S. Dickey on April 18, 1954. She worked with John in his optometry practice until their retirement in 1979. Mrs. Dickey enjoy her membership in Tri Kappa sorority and she cherished the friendships she made in her long-standing bridge club.

Survivors include her husband; two children, John S. (wife, Chris) Dickey of Hagerstown, Md., and Jane D. (husband, John) Pidgeon of New Castle; four grandchildren, Anna (husband, Nicholas) Brown of Chicago, Ill., Ellen J. Wright of Chicago, Ill., Sara Dickey of New York, N.Y., and Matthew (wife, Emily Spencer) Dickey of Ellicott City, Md.; a great granddaughter, Mabel Rose Brown; a sister, Rosemary (husband, Richard) Faulkner of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three nephews, Jim, Tom and Eric Faulkner.

A memorial service was be held at Knightstown Christian Church at noon on Tuesday, May 2, with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until time of service on May 2. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Helen Dickey Scholarship Fund, a scholarship established for Knightstown High School students through the Henry County Community Foundation, 700 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, IN 47362. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown is handling arrangements.
