Patricia Ann Mayes

Patricia Ann Mayes, 63, of New Castle, died Friday, April 21, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
She was born Jan. 29, 1943, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Harold and Blanche (Godfrey) Zirkle.
Mrs. Mayes was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo. Her CB radio handle was Momma HoHo and she liked traveling the road with her husband, the late Paul Mayes. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include five daughters, Jeannie (husband, Phil) Hiatt of Elkhart, Paula McGuire of New Castle, Kimberly Mayes of Anderson, Hope Mayes of Anderson, and Kelly (husband, James) Lasswell, also of Anderson; a son, Timothy Mayes of Michigan City; a sister, Martha (husband, Joe) Raley of Toccoa, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Joe Kerr of Anderson; a sister-in-law, Marie Zirkle of Anderson; her beloved pets, Butch and Sam; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Keith Mayes on January 2; a brother, Sonny Zirkle; a sister, Betty Kerr; a great-granddaughter, Patricia Partlen; and a beloved pet, Mutley.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 25, at Main & Frame Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Pastor Bobby Slagle officiating. Visitation was April 25 at the funeral home.
Helen M. Cook
January 16, 1918 – April 20, 2006
Helen M. Cook, 88, of Anderson, a former Wilkinson resident, died Thursday, April 20, in Greenfield.
She was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Warrington, a daughter of the late Scott and Hazel (Albea) Copeland.
Mrs. Cook a lifelong homemaker and a 1936 graduate of Wilkinson High School. She was a member of First Nazarene Church in New Castle since 1958. She married Sam Cook in 1937.
Survivors include a son, Gordon (wife, Cheryl) Cook of Wilkinson; a granddaughter, Lisa (husband, Ronald) Peckham of Greenfield; a grandson, Greg (wife, Samantha) Cook of Terre Haute; three great grandchildren; special friends, Roger and Joann O’Neal of Wilkinson, Gene “Tink” and Elaine O’Neal of Wilkinson, Richard and Cheryl Prehara of Pendleton, Terry and Sally Molden of Shirley, Mike and Doris Wise of New Castle, Mike and Priscilla Lacey of Anderson and Frank and Nancy Steele of Greenfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Cook, in 1998.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. on Monday, April 24, at the funeral home.
Albert R. Terhune
Nov. 29, 1911 – April 20, 2006
Albert R. Terhune, 94, of Lapel, a former longtime Carthage resident, died Thursday, April 20, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.
He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Jennings County, a son of the late James and Martha (Hand) Terhune.
Mr. Terhune was a Rush County farmer for 62 years. He retired in 1994 and moved to Lapel. He was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage for over 80 years. There, he served in various capacities, including treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Terhune also served on the Carthage Public Library Board and was a member of the Carthage Lions Club. He also chaired the Carthage Fall Festival committee.
Survivors include four children, James L. (wife, Fran) Terhune of Snellville, Ga., Jeannine S. Terhune of Lapel, John A. (wife, Zoe) Terhune of Noblesville and Joseph (wife, Nancy) Terhune of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Elisabeth Jane “Betsy” Terhune Kelberlau of New Por Richey, Fla., Susan Frances Terhune of Snellville, Ga., Charles Wesley Terhune of Lilburn, Ga., Christopher James Terhune of Orange, Va., and Kathleen Ann and Melissa Jo Terhune, both of Greenfield; four great-grandchildren, Natalie Alexandra Terhune, Gillian Grace Terhune, Isabella Mary Frances Terhune and Gabriel Christopher Samuel Terhune; and one niece, Carolyn Ann McCrum of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Frances (Coffman) Terhune in 2000; a grandson, Scott David Terhune; two brothers, Malcom and Leslie; and three sisters, Erma, Helen and Mary.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel or Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage.
Robert A. Martin
July 28, 1929 – April 21, 2006
Robert A. Martin, 76, of rural Kennard, died Friday, April 21, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born July 28, 1929 in Dry Ridge, Ky., a son of the late Kenneth and Sarah (Smith) Martin.
Mr. Martin was a lifelong farmer and 4-H supporter. He was a member of Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16, the national and Indiana Cattlemen’s Association and Greensboro Eastern Star #543.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Weisheit) Martin of Kennard; two sons, Jake (wife, Teri) Martin of Kennard and Tom (wife, Tina) Martin, DVM, of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Nora (husband, Jamie) Maxwell of Knightstown; seven grandchildren, Doug, Dan and David Martin all of Crawfordsville, Jake (wife, Shelia) Martin, Jr., of Kennard; Michele Martin of Columbus, Ohio; Tim and Tomi Maxwell of Knightstown; a great-granddaughter, Faith Martin of Kennard; a brother, Clayton Martin of Pendleton; a sister, Alma Wickard of Greenfield; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Mike Wren officiating. Entombment will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation, including Masonic services, was Tuesday, April 25, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mavern “Mae” Patterson
July 17, 1928 – April 23, 2006
Mavern “Mae” Patterson, 77, of Knightstown, died Sunday, April 23, at her home.
She was born July 17, 1928, in Shelbyville, a daughter of the late Leonard and Violet (Williams) Featherston.
Survivors include three daughters, Tena (husband, Curtis) Northern of Knightstown, Tamara (husband, Don) Riley of Paris, Ky., and Terrie (husband, Larry) Bittinger of Wilkinson; seven grandchildren, Ashlee, Alyssa, and Levi Northern, Wesley and Angela Riley, and Trey and Elise Bittinger; two sisters, Evelyn See of Noblesville and Betty Baker of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harel Patterson, in 1999; and two brothers, Wesley and Buddy Featherston.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 28, at Condo & Son Funeral Home with Rev. George Maloyed officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27.
Richard H. Sampson
July 18, 1920 – April 23, 2006
Richard H. Sampson, 85, of Arlington, died Sunday, April 23, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rushville.
He was born July 18, 1920, in Hampton, N.J., a son of the late William and Irene (Heed) Sampson.
Mr. Sampson was a retired welder who for many years worked at White Consolidated, Inc., in Connersville. Mr. Sampson earned the Purple Heart, Victory Medal with silver and bronze stars and the Meritorious Service Award while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and United Auto Workers (UAW). On July 3, 1941, he married the former Stella Suszek.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Sampson of Arlington; two sons, Gerald R. (wife, Verna) Sampson of Richmond and Roger W. (wife, Lisa) Sampson of Arlington; three daughters, Virginia (husband, Mark) Rubie of Arlington, JoAnn Sampson of Greensburg and Barbara (husband, Michael) Brewer of Knightstown; two sisters, Virginia Hanson of Montour Falls, N.Y., and Janet Shook of Phillipsburg, N.J.; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Sampson.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville with Rev. William Turner officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation, along with a rosary service, was Tuesday, April 25 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
C. Wayne Chew
June 20, 1946 – April 23, 2006
C. Wayne Chew, 59, of Knightstown, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield following an extended illness.
He was born June 20, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late George C. and Phyllis (Eads) Chew, Jr.
Mr. Chew retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after 32 years of service. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge #16 in Knightstown. Mr. Chew was active in racing for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Jerri (Lanigan) Chew of Knightstown; one son, Scott (wife, Jodi) Chew of Knightstown; three grandchildren, Daniel, Mitchell and Macey Chew; a brother, Deryl Chew of Greenfield; three sisters, Diane McRoberts and Judy Tompkins, both of Knightstown and Janet Herron of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis in 1991 and George in 1995.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Mervin Kilmer officiating. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service. Masonic services, conducted by Golden Rule Lodge #16, will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown Cheer Guild with envelopes available at the funeral home.
