Dewey Roger Dotson

Dewey Roger Dotson, 78, of Spiceland, died Dec. 10 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born Sept. 11, 1931, a son of the late Dewey and Eliza (Pennington) Dotson.
Mr. Dotson was a 1950 Richmond High School graduate. He retired from Penn Railroad in 1986 after 30 years of service. In the 1960s, he owned and operated the Snow & Ogden Gas Company as well as Dotson Monuments in Knightstown.
Survivors include his wife, Edith (Parson) Dotson of Spiceland; two daughters, Pam (husband, Tony) Williams of Spiceland and Sandy (husband, Mike) Abney of Kokomo; a son, Norman David Dotson of Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Mesker of Indianapolis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Dotson; and a sister, Edna White.
Funeral service were Dec. 14 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Rowena Ritchie
January 24, 1939 - January 30, 2010
Rowena Ritchie, 71, of Dunreith, died Jan. 30 at her home.
She was born Jan. 24, 1939, in Ogden, a daughter of the late Wesley Eugene and Viola Alice (Ratliff) Vaughn.
Mrs. Ritchie attended Knightstown schools and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She and her husband, Kenneth, owned and operated Ritchie’s Garage in Dunreith and Spiceland for many years. She also worked at Jacquel Manufacturing in Knightstown.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Ritchie of Dunreith; three children, Debbie Williams of Connersville, Alan (wife, Angie) Ritchie of New Castle and Chelsie Ritchie of Dunreith; five grandchildren, Josh Williams of Knightstown, Aimee (husband, Mark) Hayworth of Carthage, Kenny (wife, Elizabeth) Ritchie of New Castle, Cameron (wife, Victoria) Ritchie of Milton and Cody Ritchie of New Castle; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eddie Vaughn of Lakeland, Fla., Herschel (wife, Irene) Vaughn of West Warrick, R.I., and Thomas (wife, Jeanette) Vaughn of Cocoa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosella Davis; and two brothers, Richard Vaughn and Billy Vaughn.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Liberty Baptist Church in Dunreith with Rev. Tim Dice officiating. Burial will follow at Dunreith Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Lucille E. Grimm
August 23, 1908 - January 28, 2010
Lucille E. Grimm, 101, of Indianapolis, formerly of Knightstown, died Jan. 28 at St. Augustine Home for the Aged in Indianapolis.
She was born Aug. 23, 1908, in Norwich, Conn., a daughter of the late Hugh Wellington Carter and Mary Ellen (Mulholland) Carter.
Mrs. Grimm lived in Knightstown for many years. She was a typist at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis and an office manager for the Indiana Nursing Board. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church as well as a former Girl Scouts and Brownies leader.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Winchester of Indianapolis and Bette Lou (husband, Gary) Hauber of Carrollton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Grimm; a son, Albert Grimm, Jr.; a daughter, Rosemary Grimm; two brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services were Feb. 1 at St. Augustine Home for the Aged in Indianapolis with Msgr. John Duncan officiating. Visitation was Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the nursing home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor at the nursing home.
Lois M. Smith
October 14, 1919 - January 26, 2010
Lois M. Smith, 90, of Knightstown, died Jan. 26 in Knightstown.
She was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Russell Springs, Ky., a daughter of the late William and Effie Jane (Bennett) Bunch.
Mrs. Smith attended Baptist church and she enjoyed camping, cooking, country music and garage sales. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include seven children, James (wife, Evelyn) Smith of Franklin, Mary Jones of Knightstown, Mildred (husband, James) White of Spiceland, Carl (wife, Irene) Smith of Indianapolis, Robert (wife, Sharon) Smith of Syracuse, Allen (wife, Sue) Smith of Carthage and David (wife, Patty) Smith of Knightstown; a sister, Mildred Carnes of Bluffton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Norman Carroll.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Smith; five daughters; four sons; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were Jan. 30 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Jan. 29 at the funeral home.

Melvie Charles Brammer
December 28, 1918 - February 10, 2010
Melvie Charles Brammer, 91, of Knightstown, died Feb. 10 at Brandywine Living Center in Greenfield.
He was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Sabetha, Kan., a son of the late Ernest and Myrtle (Hamilton) Brammer.
Mr. Brammer was a 52-year member of Knightstown Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer for 25 years. He retired from Conrail Railroad after over 42 years of service. Mr. Brammer enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and camping. He and his wife, Dorothy, camped for many years and were members of Good Sam and Allison camping clubs. He enjoyed his faith and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Lucile" (Ulrey) Brammer of Knightstown; a son, Charles (wife, Beverly) Brammer of Greenfield; a daughter, Delona (husband, Danny) Vaughn of Frankton; four grandchildren, Ryan (wife, Carissa) Brammer of Indianapolis, John (wife, Tisha) Cox of Anderson, Rodney (wife, Debbie) Cox of Knightstown and Rene (husband, Jerry Jr.) Powell of Frankton; six great-grandchildren, Clayton Cox of Colorado, Matthew Cox of Knightstown, Tyler Cox and Cory Cox of Knightstown, Emily Cox of Anderson and Garth Powell of Frankton; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Brammer of Anderson; a sister, Jewel Collins of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvie Brammer; and a grandson, Marcus Cox.
Funeral services were Feb. 13 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Richard Thayer and Anthony Darling officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Feb. 12 at the funeral home.

Carolyn Lee Johnson
August 3, 1941 - February 10, 2010
Carolyn Lee Johnson, 68, of Greenfield, died Feb. 10 at her home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Muncie, a daughter of the late Russel and Mary Lee (West) Johnson.
Miss Johnson was a longtime employee of the Eastern Hancock School Corporation, from which she retired after 35 years of service. She served as a teacher, coach and athletic director. She was a member of AAHPERD, IIAAA, ISTA, NEA, Hancock County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana Audubon Society. Miss Johnson enjoyed nature and spending time outdoors.
Survivors include her friend, Beth Higgins of Greenfield; a sister, Laura Johnson of Fortville; a brother, Donal (wife, Donna) Johnson of Gaston; a niece, Joanne (husband, Lary) Troutner; a great niece, Jennifer (husband, Dan) Vonderwell; a nephew, Duane "D.J." (wife, Laurie) Johnson; and a great-great nephew, Joshua Vonderwell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lois Johnson; and a niece, Rowena Sachs.
Funeral services were Feb. 14 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Brian Froman officiating. Visitation was Feb. 13 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
Carl Dean McDaniel
March 2, 1928 - February 10, 2010
Carl Dean McDaniel, 81, of Rush County, died Feb. 10 at his home.
He was born March 2, 1928, in Rush County, a son of the late Paul and Arrene (Hiner) McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was a lifetime Rush County farmer, who lived and farmed in the same location all his life. The home where he was born burned to the ground when he was three. His family rebuilt on the same site and he lived there from then on. The section of Center Cemetery where he is buried is a part of the original McDaniel farm ground. Mr. McDaniel was a bus driver for Mays Elementary School for 29 years. He was a member of Center Christian Church since 1954. During that time he served as a trustee and a deacon. Mr. McDaniel was very active in the Center Cemetery Association. He was also a 50-year member of the Mays Lions Club, a lifetime member of the Rushville American Legion, a 4-H leader and a Rush County Farm Bureau board member. Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951-53). He was a 1946 Mays High School graduate who attended Purdue University’s agriculture winter short course.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Kathleen McDaniel of Rush County; four sons, Robert A. (wife, Anna) McDaniel of Rushville, Gary L. (wife, Janice) McDaniel of Dunreith, Myron R. (wife, Susan) McDaniel of Greenwood and Gail D. (wife, Stephanie) McDaniel of Rushville; a daughter, Jayne (husband, James) Dunaway of Greenfield; a sister-in-law, Marcelle McDaniel of Greenfield; two sisters, Phyllis M. Hubbell of Connersville, and Joan Addison of New Castle; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Patrick, Eric, Lance, Bretta, Zachary and Brandon McDaniel, Stacie Chesher, and Aaron and Neil Dunaway; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight.
Funeral services were Feb. 15 at Center Christian Church near Mays with Bill Worrell officiating. Burial followed at Center Cemetery. Visitation was Feb. 14 at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center Christian Church Building Fund. Arrangements were handled by Moster Mortuary in Rushville.
