Ralph W. Stevens

Ralph W. Stevens, 98, of Round Lake Beach, Ill., and formerly of Knightstown, died Saturday, March 18, at Hillcrest Nursing Center in Round Lake Beach.
He was born Jan. 19, 1908, in Rush County, the son of the late Edward and Minola (Sorrell) Stevens.
Mr. Stevens was a retired truck driver who drove for McQuon Transportation. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135, Golden Rule Lodge 316, and F & AM. Mr. Stevens married Rush Reddick in 1934 and she preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Sue (husband, Clinton) Campbell of Lindenhurst, Ill., three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rex Allen Stevens.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, in Knightstown with Rev. Hugh Severnson officiating. Private burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Golden Rule Lodge.
A. C. Gossage
Sept. 3, 1921 – March 20, 2006
A.C. Gossage, 84, of Kennard, died Monday, March 20, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Wayne County, Ky., a son of the late William and Pearl (Marcum) Gossage.
Mr. Gossage retired in 1975 from the Chrysler Corporation in New Castle after 30 years of service. Mr. Gossage served with the United States Army in the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of Henry County Farm Bureau and he loved visiting flea markets.
Survivors include a sister, Maydell Boling of Stanford, Ky.; a brother, William Gossage, Jr., of Conyers, Ga.; a nephew, Stanley (wife, Mary) Guinn of Kennard; and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Gossage, in 1987; a sister, Maudie Guinn; and three brothers, Frilbie, Thelbie and Fayette Gossage.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Larry Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation starts at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 24, at the funeral home.
John W. Aikman
May 11, 1934 – March 12, 2006
John W. Aikman, 71, of Greenfield, died Sunday, March 12, in Indianapolis.
He was born May 11, 1934, in Indianapolis.
Mr. Aikman was a United States Army veterans who served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and continued serving as an Army Reservist until 1962. He was a member of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite and he served as a colonel on the staff of the Governor of Kentucky in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He joined the Indiana State Police in 1964 and retired as a major in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly S. Dean; three sons, David A. Kurz of Greenwood, Jon R. Kurz of Mayumi, Kailua, Hawaii, and Roger Kurz; six grandchildren, Ashley, Brittney and Cameron Dean, Sasha and Alysha Kurz, and Nicholas Kurz; and an aunt, Virginia Aikman.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Erlewein Mortuaries in Greenfield. A procession past Mr. Aikman’s house will immediately follow the services. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at the funeral home.
Rosemary Duke
Sept. 25, 1913 – Feb. 28, 2006
Rosemary (Rhodes) Duke, 92, of Pendleton, died February 28 at Rawlins House in Pendleton.
She was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Carthage, but lived most of her life in Madison County.
Mrs. Duke worked at General Motors for 40 years. She was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage. She enjoyed traveling to antiques shows all over the country.
Survivors include a sister, Phyllis McClarnon of Carthage; and a niece, Pamela Hunt of New York, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Duke; a sister, Ruth Hunt; and a brother, Guy Rhodes.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 4, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with Rev. Michael D. Thompson officiating. Burial took place in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was March 3 at the funeral home.
Delores Jean Ratliff
May 3, 1929 – March 2, 2006
Delores Jean Ratliff, 76, of Shirley, died Thursday, March 2, at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson.
She was born May 3, 1929, in New Castle, a daughter of the late William H. and Myrtie (Lunsford) Mitchener.
Mrs. Ratliff attended New Castle High School and graduated from Cincinnati Goodwill School of Watchmaking. She was a certified master watchmaker and gemologist. She was manager of Earlham College Bookstore in Richmond for 10 years and owned Knightstown (Ratliff) Jewelers for many years. Mrs. Ratliff was a member of Knightstown Friends Church and often attended Shirley Friends Meeting. She was also a member of Shirley Eastern Star #531, Shirley senior citizens group, the Indiana Watchmakers Association and BPW of Knightstown.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (husband, Jack) Rowe of Chesterfield; a grandson, Jerry Rowe of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Elsie (husband, Keith) Hinshaw of Galena, Ohio, and Doris Ann (husband, Kenneth) Gardner of Lexington, S.C.; several aunts, nieces and nephews; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Chriswell of Wilkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Henderson of Shirley and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lewman of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Ratliff, and a brother, Raymond Mitchener.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Chris Sitler and Jim Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #531 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Paul E. Litten
Oct. 16, 1922 – March 29, 2006
Paul E. Litten, 83, of Knightstown, died Wednesday, March 29, at his home.
He was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Dolan, a son of the late Edward and Dora (Stewart) Litten.
Mr. Litten was a packer for Naval Avionics in Indianapolis and he retired from there after 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. On Aug. 8, 1942, he married Genevieve Noel and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1998. Mr. Litten was a member of Knightstown Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include four sons, Paul Richard (wife, Linda Ruth) Litten of Charlottesville, Randall (wife, Julie) Litten of Arlington, Eugene Litten of Knightstown and Gary (wife, Tammy) Litten of Greensburg; three daughters, Patricia Irene Litten of Knightstown, Linda Jean (husband, Dan) Wilkerson of Oaklandon and Carolyn (husband, Allen) Barrow of Cincinnati, Ohio; a special cousin, Patricia Ann Noel of Spencer; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother and three sisters.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Roger Abraham officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the funeral home.
Byron “Barney” Wisehart
Aug. 20, 1928 – March 30, 2006
Byron “Barney” Wisehart, 77, of Shirley, died Thursday, March 30, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Shirley, a son of the late Lonzo and Mildred (McCray) Wisehart.
Mr. Wisehart retired in 1979 from Chrysler in New Castle. He was a member of the Auburn-Cord-Dusenburg Club and was a member and deacon of Shirley Christian Church. He was also a member of the Shirley Historical Society as well as the Octagon House Society.
Survivors include his wife of two years, Elouise Jane (Ebbert) Wisehart of Shirley; a son, Kevin Lee Wisehart of Shirley; a daughter, Amanda Wisehart of Waterloo, N.Y.; two grandsons, Jayson and Harrison Wisehart, both of Elwood; a great-granddaughter, Reaghan Wisehart of Elwood; a step-daughter, Patsy Woods of Greenfield; a step-grandson, Sam Woods of Greenfield; two brothers, Richard Wisehart of Knightstown and Gerald Wisehart of Oakville; two sisters, Betty Miller and Linda Cole, both of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Wisehart, in 1994; a granddaughter, Kara Wisehart; and two brothers, Gene and Robert Wisehart.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Darell Deck and James Hill officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice, 801 N. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
