Betty J. Brown, 84, of New Castle, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at The Waters of New Castle.
She was born July 29, 1922, in Muncie, a daughter of the late William G. and Pearl Thomas (Hopper) Brophy.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Muncie Central High School.
Survivors include four children, Jacqueline Lodge of New Castle, Eddie Hall, Jr., of Connersville, Geraldine Howard of Frankfort, Ky., and Morris T. (wife, Janie) Hall of Frankfort, Ky.; and a sister, Violet Melcher of Louisville, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Brown; a daughter, Carole Anne Pricer; a sister, Helen Carter; and two brothers, Rodney Brophy and William Brophy.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle. There was no public visitation.
Wilfred R. Roland
Dec. 12, 1927 – Feb.2, 2006
Wilfred R. Roland, 78, of Knightstown, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
He was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Knightstown, a son of the late Roy and Emma (McGee) Roland.
A lifelong Knightstown resident, Mr. Roland retired from Allison’s General Motors plant in Indianapolis. He was also a television repairman who worked at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 16 years. He was an active member of Cross Road Church of God in New Castle. Mr. Roland was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army in Japan. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed golf and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Manda (Mix) Roland, whom he married July 26, 1946; five children, Cheryl (husband, John) Cassidy of Forsyth, Miss., Cindy (husband, Paul) Loveall of Knightstown, Mary (wife, Mary) Roland of Greenfield; Teresa Roland Manning of Knightstown and Jeff Roland of Greenfield; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (wife, Winnie) Roland of Knightstown, Laddy (wife, Mary) Roland of Spencer and Mitchell (wife, Sheryl) Roland of Knightstown; three sisters, Barbara (husband, James) Walls of Knightstown, Sue (husband, Junior) Dudley of Florida and Judy (husband, George) Atkins of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Edward Roland; two brothers, Lawrence “Whitey” Roland and Jack Roland; and a grandson, Robert Scott Mills.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Ron Mills and Danny Douglas officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 provided military graveside rites. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Heart Association or the Henry County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Leola Jordan
July 30, 1927 – Feb. 2, 006
Leola Jordan, 78, longtime Knightstown resident, died Thursday, Feb. 2.
She was born July 30, 1927, in Rushville, the daughter of the late Russell and Luva (Hackelman) Stevens.
Mrs. Jordan was a 1945 Rushville High School graduate. She married the late Chester B. “Chet” Jordan on April 30, 1960 at the family farm outside Knightstown. She and Chet owned and operated Knightstown Cleaners and Robin Lee Dress Shop for several years. She retired from the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation in 2003. She had worked in the Knightstown High School cafeteria for 28 years. Mrs. Jordan was also a greeter at the Meijer store in Anderson for the last seven years. She was a longtime member of Greensboro Nazarene Church and was active in Psi Iota Xi sorority. She was also an avid racing fan.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Ashley (husband, Wes) Smoot of Knightstown; a son, Tom (wife, Michelle) Jordan of Louisville, Ky.; two stepchildren, Bob Jordan of Rushville and Mary Lou McCorkle of Sebring, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Makaley and Kinsley Smoot; and several step grandchiildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Chet, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a grandson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Gene Bennett and Bob Stevens officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Hospice or Henry County Shriners with envelopes available at the funeral home.
James F. Bowman
Aug. 19, 1920 – Feb.2, 2006
James F. Bowman, 85, of Hancock County, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Aug. 19, 1920, the son of the late Daniel and Mae (Martindale) Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a 1939 graduate of Wilkinson High School. He was a World War II veterans, having served in the U.S. Army’s 8th Air Force, 7th Photo Group, 22nd Squadron, European Theater. Mr. Bowman was also an avid fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed reading and gardening. He was a member of Eden Masonic Lodge #477.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam (White) Bowman of Hancock County; two sons, Daniel James (wife, Kathy) Bowman of Greenfield and Thomas Robert Bowman of Nineveh; four grandchildren; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert F. Bowman in 2005; a grandson, Paul Bowman in 1996; and his stepmother, Jeanette Bowman in 1969.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 conducted military graveside rites at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Lawrence V. Carr
March 25, 1909 – Fb. 2, 2006
Lawrence V. Carr, 96, of Spiceland, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Hickory Creek nursing facility in New Castle.
He was born March 25, 1909, in Cumberland, a son of the late George and Lillian (Boungue) Carr.
Mr. Carr was a lifetime resident of Spiceland. He worked in various positions at Draper, Inc., and retired from there in 1974 after 49 years of service. He was a member of Spiceland Friends Meeting and a charter member of Spiceland Lions Club. Mr. Carr enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lena Mae (Garris) Carr, whom he married Feb. 11, 1939; two nephews, Bart (wife, Nancy) Benjamin of Cleveland, Ohio, and Fran (wife, Wendey) Benjamin of Sherman, Oregon; special friends Walter (wife, Mary) Clay, David (wife, Paulette) Jones and Max (wife, Betty) Moffitt; and many neighbors and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clinton, Omer, Wilbur and Everett Carr; and a sister, Thelma Benjamin.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jeff Hinshaw officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 12-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, or until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland Friends Meeting with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Mildred Reece

Mildred Reece, 93, of Knightstown, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.
She was born March 16, 1912, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Morris and Ethel (Casely) Parker.
Mrs. Reece was a lifelong Knightstown resident, who was a farm wife most of her life. She married Robert Reece on Nov. 28, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1985. She was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa sorority and County Wi-Mo-Si’s.
Survivors include two sons, Robert M. (wife, Carol) Reece of Tucson, Ariz., and Phillip L. (wife, Norma) Reece of Knightstown; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastor Steve Brackney officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the funeral home.
Mirlie Ellen Sirosky

Mirlie Ellen Sirosky, 89, of Springfield, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Castle Knoll Nursing Home in Springfield.
She was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Pulaski County, Ky., a daughter of the late Edgar and Mary (Mayfield) Dick.
Mrs. Sirosky lived in Springfield for the last four years, having moved there from Greenfield. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond (wife, Marilyn) Sirosky of Greenfield and James F. Sirosky of Kennard; one brother; one sister, 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Sirosky; one son; one daughter; one brother; one sister; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A mass took place at St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. A rosary service took place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, with Rev. Joe Rautemberg officiating. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial took place at Park Cemetery following the mass.
