Edith Hull

Edith (Manlief) Hull, 91, of Morristown, a former Carthage resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Morristown Manor Nursing Home in Morristown.
She was born in Ripley County on Aug. 22, 1914, a daughter of the late Davis and Elizabeth (Scott) Manlief.
Mrs. Hull lived most of her life in Carthage. She married Luther Hull on Oct. 25, 1930 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1991. She was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sue Hull, of North Vernon; a son-in-law, George Roland of Greenfield; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; one daughter; three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to services. Burial took place in Flatrock Church Cemetery on after services.
Mary Ann Hagman
Jan. 19, 1934 – Jan. 3, 2006
Mary Ann Hagman, 71, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Bandon, a daughter of the late Frank M. and Gertrude (Hubert) Hagman.
Ms. Hagman was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield and the Wilkinson Merry Makers Seniors Citizens group. She lived for several years at Brandywine Manor Convalescent Center in Greenfield, where she was very active socially.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Jones and Carole Maynard, both of Greenfield; a niece, Jill Ebbert of Greenfield; a nephew, Brian Maynard of Greenfield; and a great niece, Amanda Ebbert of Seattle, Wash.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with Rev. Severin Messick, O.S.B., officiating. Burial followed in Greenfield’s Park Cemetery. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson on Friday, Jan. 6, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday, Jan. 7. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Youth Fund, 519 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, IN 46140.
Sue Ann Johnson
Jan. 25, 1951 – Jan. 5, 2006
Sue Ann (Ayers) Johnson, 54, of Albany, Ky., died Thursday, Jan. 5, at Clinton County Hospital in Clinton County, Ky.
She was born Jan. 25, 1951, a daughter of the late Sam and Opal (Clark) Ayers.
Survivors include one daughter, Stacie (husband, Jason) Boykin of New Castle; two sons, Tim (wife, Dianna) Ayers, and Larry (wife, Anna) Johnson, both of Albany, Ky.; three sisters, Ruth Thornsberry of Albany, Ky., Juanita Rednour and Kaye Bersprille, both of Arcadia; and six grandchildren, Jason Boykin II, Dusty Boykin, Nicole Boykin, Sheriah Boykin, Cris Ayers and Wyatt Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lyndale Johnson.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 7, at Talbott Funeral Home in Albany, Ky., with Brother Ted Burchett officiating. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 6, from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services were Monday, Jan. 9, at South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn Addition, in New Castle with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle is handling local arrangements.
Suzanne M. Younts
April 20, 1946 – Jan. 6, 2006
Suzanna M. Younts, 59, of New Castle, died Friday, Jan. 6, at Americare Living Center in New Castle.
She was born April 20, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wis., a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Marie (Sibinski) Nowaczyk.
Mrs. Younts worked at the New Castle and Muncie post offices for many years. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in New Castle, where she was very active. Mrs. Younts belonged to the Knightstown of Columnus Ladies Auxiliary and was a former member of the New Castle Business and Professional Women. She enjoyed being a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. Her family meant a lot to her and she much time with them. Mrs. Younts also enjoyed helping others, collecting, music and dance.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori (husband, Ronnie) McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dawn Frazier of New Castle; six grandchildren, Tabitha, Brandi Weintraut and Emily McDonald, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; Matt and Malerie Younts and Levi Holland, all of New Castle; two sisters, Carol Ann (husband, Paul) Garza of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Mary Ann (husband, John) Relish of Eagle Spring Lake, Wis.; two brothers, Joe Nowaczyk of Waukesha, Wis., and Mark (wife, Jean) Nowaczyk of Eagle Spring Lake, Wis.; one aunt, Suzy Sibinski of West Allis, Wis.; two uncles, Danny Cwiklinski and Jimmy Sibinski, both of Wisconsin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a beloved friend, Sister Shirley Gerth of New Castle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved aunts, Harriet and Sophie Nowaczyk.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in New Castle with Sister Shirley Gerth officiating. Burial will take place later at St. Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery in Eagle, Wis. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne’s Catholic Church in memory of Suzanne Younts. Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle is handling arrangements.
Vela Shoopman-Rooker

Vela Shoopman-Rooker, 79, of Dunreith, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
She was born July 28, 1926, in Monticello, Ky., a daughter of the late Wesley and Bessie (Smith) Gregory.
Mrs. Shoopman-Rooker was a homemaker and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle. She lived in the Lewisville and Dunreith areas most of her life before moving to Fairfield, Cal., in 2000. She married Leon Rooker on Nov. 13, 2000, in Beford, Ky., and he survives.
Survivors include her husband; one stepdaughter, Frema (husband, Jim) Byrd of Woodland, Cal.; five brothers, Edwin (wife, Alma) Gregory of New Castle, Willard Gregory of Richmond, Oma (wife, Virginia) Gregory of Dunreith, Thomas Gregory of Rushville, and Carlie (wife, Beverly) Gregory of Lewisville; two sisters, Zona Upchurch of Eubank, Ky., and Vena (husband, Richard) Swejkar of Spiceland; a brother-in-law, Robert (wife, Juanita) Shoopman of Fairfield, Cal.; a sister-in-law, Audra (husband, Clarence) Stewart of Straughn; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Earl Shoopman, on May 31, 1998; and two sisters, Anna Steel and Ella Mae Gregory.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, with Rev. Charles Dugger officiating. Burial followed at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home.
Carrie Bea Jones

Carrie Bea Jones, 96, of Carthage, died Thursday, Jan. 26, at her home.
She was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Illinois, a daughter of the late Hairm and Essie (Masters) Stevens.
Mrs. Jones lived most of her life in Carthage. She worked in the food service department at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown. On Aug. 7, 1926, she married Ora Jones and he preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Jones was a member of Carthage Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Fannin of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.
Judith Ann Peacock
Set. 7, 1948 – Jan. 26, 2006
Judith Ann Peacock, 57, of Columbus, Ohio, died Thursday, Jan. 26, at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus.
She was born in Rushville on Sept. 7, 1948, a daughter of the late Herbert and Marie (Glover) Fannin.
Ms. Peacock lived in Columbus, Ohio, for 22 years after moving there from New Castle. She was a billing clerk for J.P. Morgan and Chase.
Survivors include her mother, Marie Fannin of Carthage; two daughters, Ronnie Peacock of Ft. Wayne and April D. Peacock of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; a sister, Bonnie (husband, Michael) Sisk of San Bernardino, Cal.; two brothers, Ronnie (wife, Becky) Fannin of Pendleton, and Richard (wife, Debbie) Fannin of Arlington; and a grandson, Justin Biddle of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.
