Robert W. Wisehart

Robert W. “Bob” Wisehart, 75, of Shirley, died Thursday, Dec. 22, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born April 24, 1930, in Shirley, a son of the late Alonzo and Mellie (McCray) Wisehart.
Mr. Wisehart served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 1980. He was a member and Deacon of Shirley Christian Church, where he was very involved with church facilities. Mr. Wisehart was a founding member of the Jane Ross Reeves Octagon House Foundation in Shirley. He enjoyed collecting model vehicles and owned a classic 1948 Chrysler New Yorker, which he entered in car shows.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Eloise (Bricker) Wisehart, of Shirley; two daughters, Terri (husband, Allen) Collier of Knightstown, and Karen (husband, Mark) Harrison of Wilkinson; three granddaughters, Amanda Collier, Andrea Kinder, and Kara Hufferd; two sisters, Betty Miller and Linda Cole; three brothers, Richard Wisehart, Barney Wisehart and Gerald Wisehart; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Wisehart.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor James Hill and Rev. Allen Collier officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, at the funeral home.
Laura K. Small
April 25, 1918 – Dec. 28, 2005
Laura K. Small, 87, of Anderson, formerly of Raleigh, died Wednesday, Dec. 28.
She was born April 25, 1918, in Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Walter and Laura (Kajewski) Kozikowski. She married Merrill E. Small on Feb. 6, 1937 and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1992.
Mrs. Small graduated from East Syracuse High School (N.Y.) and was a past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star group #463. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa sorority and Center Christian Church. Mrs. Small worked for many years at Rushville National Bank in the credit department.
Survivors include a son, Richard (wife, Linda) Small of Anderson; one sister, Helen Szlyamzinski of Syracuse, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James; one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Center Christian Church with Rev. Bill Worrell officiating. Burial followed at Center Church Cemetery. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Todd Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Marietta Pearson
May 7, 1924 – Dec. 29, 2005
Marietta (Gates) Pearson, 81, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Dec. 29 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born May 7, 1924, in Westland, a daughter of the late Eligah and Neva (Duncan) Gates.
Mrs. Pearson owned and operated Marietta’s Café in Charlottesville. She also worked at Eastern Hancock schools as a custodian. She was a member of Charlottesville United Methodist Church, Women’s Society Club and Bunco Club.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (wife, Janet) Pearson of Carbon, and Michael (wife, Joyce) Pearson of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Brian Pearson, Julie Pearson, Angela Sexton and Kim Blume; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Grose of Greenfield, and Virginia Hutcherson of Wabash; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Pearson in 1993; a son, Alex Pearson in 2005; a brother, Cleo Gates; and a sister, Mildred Gates Johnson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Shirley Lukens officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home.
Paul Keith Mayes
June 14, 1938 – Jan. 2, 2006
Paul Keith Mayes, 67, of New Castle, died Monday, Jan. 2, at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Anderson, a son of the late Lowell Lester and Wertha (Roamy) Mayes.
Mr. Mayes was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He was known by his CB handle, “Daddy HoHo.” He was also an avid Bingo player and enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting. Mr. Mayes loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia (Zirkle) Mayes of New Castle; five daughters, Jeannie (husband, Phil) Hiatt of Elkhart, Paula McGuire of New Castle, Kimberly Mayes of Anderson, Hope Mayes of Anderson, and Kelly (husband, James) Lasswell, also of Anderson; a son, Timothy Mayes of Michigan City; two brothers, Donald (wife, Barb) Mayes of Brazil, and Lowell Lester Mayes, Jr., of Anderson; beloved pets, Butch and Sam; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Mayes, and a pet, Mutley.
Funeral services are at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Pastor Larry Bigham of Central Community Chapel of Anderson officiating. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by New Castle American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 1282. Ruth E. Heady
Jan. 14, 1912 – Dec. 31, 2005
Ruth E. Heady, 93, of Knightstown, died Saturday, Dec. 31, at Hancock Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 14, 1912, in Wheatcroft, Ky., a daughter of the late William E. and Lena Mae (Baird) Farmer.
Mrs. Heady completed 12 grades in a one-room school house in Kentucky and later attended Murray State University, also in Kentucky. A homemaker all her life, she enjoyed reading and had lived in the Carthage and Knightstown communities all her life.
Survivors include three sons, Jack D. (wife, Pat) Heady of Michigan, Clyde W. (wife, Bernice) Heady of Michigan, and James R. (wife, Mary) Heady of Knightstown; a step-sister, Jerri Kestner of Washington; a step-brother, Mickey Farmer; eight grandchildren, Daryl Heady, Cheryl (husband, Larry) Benson, Jack Heady, Steven Wayne Heady, and Mark (wife, Jill) Heady, all of Michigan; Steven James (wife, Shannon) Heady of Carthage, Scott (wife, Holly) Heady of Straughn, Angela (husband, Kenneth) Haskett of Knightstown; nine great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, including Charlene, Sharon and Michelle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Heady, in 1997; two sisters, Hazel Edwards and Dorothy Colo; and four brothers, William, Lacy, Richard and Jimmy Farmer.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Chris Sitler officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Max Wayne Dewees
June 10, 1951 – Dec. 26, 2005
Max Wayne Dewees, 54, formerly of Carthage, died Dec. 26, 2005, at his home in Union County, where he moved approximately six months ago.
He was born June 10, 1951 in Carthage, a son of the late Jesse and Edith N. (Keller) Dewees.
Mr. Dewees was a 1971 graduate of Carthage High School. He served in the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Mr. Dewees was honorably discharged on Nov. 6, 1975. Formerly employed at the Trane Corporation in Rushville for 23 years, he later worked for the Dana Corporation in Richmond, where he worked until his retirement in 2002.
He married Della A. Miller on March 16, 1985, and she survives. The marriage took place at Dunreith Christian Church. Mr. Dewees was an active member of Dunreith Christian Church and the American Legion in Indianapolis. He was an automobile enthusiast and avid NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife, Della Dewees; seven children, Tammy (husband, Brad) Wagner of Brookville, Christine Miller (companion, Christopher Wagner), also of Brookville, Matt (wife, Stacy) Miller of Rushville, Aric (wife, Chrissy) Dewees and Kelly Jo (husband, Russ) Justice of Silver Lake, Cheryl Miller of New Castle, and Joyce Miller of Muncie; seven grandchildren, Jackie, Katrina and John Wagner, Mattison and Morgan Miller, and Tristan and Kelsey Justice; a brother, Jack Dewees of Shirley; a niece; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Patricia Dewees.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 30, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home in Connersville with Revs. Kenton Smith and Warren Engle officiating. Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 29. Burial took place in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to Rush County Relay for Life.
Ralph Lee Miller
March 6, 1930 – Jan. 2, 2006
Ralph Lee Miller, 75, of Rushville, died Jan. 2 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born March 6, 1930, in Walker Township, Rush County, a son of the late Virgil and Mary (Wise) Miller.
Mr. Miller married Joyce Myer on Jan. 29, 1955 and she survives. He was a 1949 Manilla High School graduate, who later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Miller was a retired dairy farmer and a past director of the Indiana Holstein Friesian Association. He was also a past president of the Rush County DHIA Association. Mr. Miller’s other memberships included the Dairy Shrine Club, Eagles Lodge 2036 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jemmy Lee (wife, Teresa) Miller of Rushville, and Rodger Lee (wife, Melanie) Miller of Shelbyville; three brothers, Richard Miller of Marshall, Paul David Miller of San Antonio, Tx., and John Miller of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Joan (husband, Weldon) Gard of Yuba City, Cal., Janetta (husband, Darrell) Ramsey of Spencer, Ohio, Wilma Jean Socha of Charleston, W.V., and Betty Joyce Blosser of Spencer, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Charles Justice officiating. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the funeral home. Burial took place in Hanover Cemetery in Morristown.
